I am no longer able to give the time needed to manage the cannery and am looking for someone to replace me as manager. The position required computer and adding machine experience. I am willing to come in on Tuesdays or evenings to assist in training. If you feel led to serve the Lord in this capacity, please call the cannery at 254-1191 and leave a message.

God Bless,
Kathy Kline, Manager

Raw Food Potluck

Hello to Everyone,

Just a reminder to all that our raw food potluck is this Thursday, August 25 at 6:30 p.m. here at The Mansion House in the Carriage House/Chapel. As usual there is no cost, however we would greatly appreciate a $5.00 donation from as many as can to help cover all the expenses it takes to put this on.

Remember, you need only to bring raw veggies or fruit if you are new to this to feed at least 6 people. The rest of you, just bring a raw food dish to pass. It need not be complicated at all...we appreciate everything that is offered. This is a great time to interact with other "raw foodists", and get wonderful ideas. We do supply the plates, bowls, napkins and forks so you do not have to haul that with you either.

As far as the movie being offered we will be watching part 2 of last weeks cancer movie that Kathy Adams brought to share with us last month.

I apologize for the shortness of this message.... some of you already know our computer got "fried" during the storm a couple weeks ago, and we are working to get the problem solved as soon as possible......this is why I have been unable to answer some of my emails from you.

I know you are probably enjoying the cooler weather, and I am sure we will have even more people around, now that school has started and it is getting cooler, responding with their creativity as well as their wanting to get back on track now that vacations are almost over.

I truly hope this find all of you well, and I send great blessings out to you with this message.

God bless,

Conversational Apologetics - class

All local Elders are welcome to attend.

Our next Quorum meeting will be at 9:00 am, Saturday, August 20th, at Devon Park. Our study session is entitled "Conversational Apologetics," which is a class on witnessing with a bit of a twist. The instructor, Jon Tandy, says the class deals with the preparation and presentation of our message, and using a conversational approach to bearing our testimonies. It will explore answers to specific subjects of discussion from both non-Christian and Christian critics: evolution, absolute truth, hell, Jesus, the reliability of the Bible, God and suffering, Joseph Smith, jr, and Zion.

Last month's class was filled with great ideas for us to ponder. We expect no less from Jon. Please make the effort to get there.

Saturday, August 20, 2011, 9:00 am, Devon Park.

Hope to see you there.

Joplin Need

Monday, August 15th, Jenna and I are taking a van load of volunteers to Joplin to assist for a day with the recovery.

There is a need for lunch boxes and kindergarten mats to outfit Irving Elementary School students for this year. Irving is one of five schools that were destroyed in the tornado, May 22rd.

We are accepting donations or funds to take care of this need. If you would like to contribute, contact Muriel or Jenna Luedeman at 620 S. Main by Sunday evening. Our phone number is 816-254-8456 or 816-726-8425.

We will be leaving early Monday morning about 7:00 a.m. and will return that night. We will deliver the boxes and mats to Washington Education Center where the Irving students will be attending.

Thank you for any help you can give in getting the word out to the Saints and we thank the Saints in advance for their generosity in meeting this need. Joplin is making good progress, but the work is still enormous down there. Over 7000 homes were destroyed and 300 businesses. Keep Joplin in your prayers daily.

There is still a great need for volunteers of all kinds and will be for a long time to come.

Fraud Warning

A friend just received a letter in the mail today claiming that he won a sweepstakes. They sent him a check for $4500 from Aceto Corporation. They tell you to cash the check and then send them $3850 to pay the taxes on your winnings of $585,000 The check looks real but when the company was called, they said that someone had gotten hold of one of their checks and made fraudulent ones. It is a scam. If you or a family member receives this, they said to shred the check.

“Among the Ruins of the Kingdom”

Doug has a new book called: “Among the Ruins of the Kingdom”

This is a fast-paced novel that does not get bogged down in long descriptions, but is driven primarily by action and interesting dialogue. It could be compared to something like the Chronicles of Narnia in that it is a kind of parable. It is an entertaining fantasy designed to reveal truths and yet remain accessible to a greater audience. Aimed toward teenagers as its target audience, the book should also be very enjoyable for adults. Although the novel definitely has a Christian or spiritual underpinning to it, the story can be enjoyed by all readers, regardless of faith, allowing them to take from it what they choose.

Here is a small blurb about the story, and a link where it can be ordered.

“The Kingdom of Mélekh is now a forgotten dream, little more than ancient ruins. The world of men is divided and leaderless, while a sinister threat grows in the desolate land to the north. By an act of abomination taught to him by demons, Tsar-Echthros, an ancient sorcerer, has managed to cheat death and builds an army to enslave mankind.

“Zidek, an immortal prophet who set the Crown of the Ancients upon Mélekh’s brow a thousand years ago, has taken interest in a young farm boy named Chayim. Acting upon a prophecy regarding a foretold hero destined to destroy Tsar-Echthros and prepare the way for Mélekh’s return, he has taken the boy under his wing. Together, they set out on a quest to locate Mélekh’s sword and the armor he divided among his knights for safe keeping.

“If Chayim is to have any chance against Tsar-Echthros, he will not only have to find Mélekh’s sword and armor, but he will also have to learn how to tap into the very power which brought about the creation of the world.”

This is a self-publishing effort, so please pass the word.
