Prayer Request for Charles Sperry

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Charles Sperry

chassperry@yahoo.com

Hello Family and Friends,

Now that the internet is working and I have a day to stay home, I am taking the time to let people know of the recent events here with our family. Chuck had been recuperating quite well. He was good enough to get on the motorcycle and make a few trips to town. Saturday, October 20, 2012 Chuck went into town to do some needed errands. As he entered town, a taxi decided to do a fast "U" turn right in front of him. Needless to say, the taxi driver was in too much of a hurry to look for oncoming traffic. The taxi hit Chuck on the left side of the motorcycle, breaking two ribs. Chuck and the motorcycle fell and slid across the street hitting the curb with his shoulder, causing Chuck's collar bone to break into 5 pieces.

Chuck has seen an orthopedic surgeon and no operation is needed. But, he does have to wear a special cloth brace to keep his shoulders back. The doctor says that it will take 3 months to heal. Because the roads here are made of dirt and rock, traveling in the car is not possible for him these next few weeks. It causes too much movement which is not conducive to the healing of the bones.

Having a broken collar bone is painful, but having two broken ribs on the same side makes it more painful. We would appreciate your prayers please. Also please pray for the taxi driver. He was in jail for 24 hours. His car is impounded till he pays for the medical bills and motorcycle repairs. We are praying that he will have the money and that some way he will recognize his need for Jesus Christ.

We do not understand why these things happened, but we do know that we are told to praise the Lord in all things. Life brings many unexpected events. Praise the Lord for His peace and comfort. He is the stabilizing influence in our lives. We are honored to be considered His children. We appreciate very much your continuing prayers.

May the Lord bless you,

En Cristo,
Chuck and Regina Sperry

Zion shall not be moved out of her place, notwithstanding her children are scattered, they that remain and are pure in heart shall return and come to their inheritances; they and their children, with songs of everlasting joy; to build up the waste places of Zion. And all these things, that the prophets might be fulfilled. D&C 98:4g
On Saturday October 27th and Sunday October 28th a delegation from the Church of Jesus Christ (Bickertonites) will be visiting the Zarahemla Branch to share with us their joy and enthusiasm of the Songs of Zion. Sister Arlene Buffington who has received these poetic and prophetic songs will be sharing her testimonies about the reception of these songs and will teach them to us. We hope to learn many of them throughout the weekend. There will be a potluck on Saturday evening and opportunity for fellowshipping together with this branch of the Restoration. We will all worship together on Sunday morning as we sing the Songs of Zion during the Sunday school hour and then open our pulpit to one of their evangelists. Sunday evening we will have a presentation on Restoration Hymnody where we will learn about the history of music in the Restoration, the Reorganization and the Church of Jesus Christ. “We’ll Join In One Accord” and sing the songs of the latter day glory. We rejoice that the God of Israel is attempting to sew us back together so He can complete His work. All are invited and encouraged to come experience the joy and gladness of the latter day theme.
Saturday Evening ─ Potluck at 5:00PM followed by the introduction to and the sharing of the Songs of Zion.

Bible Passages for Voting

To one and all:
I got this forwarded to me by a close friend, from the Pastor of her church in Mentor, OH. It sounded like some good basics to follow when voting in this ever-so-important 2012 Presidential election.
So if you’re struggling yet with which person to vote for, this may be of sincere help.

I pray that this helps those that are struggling with this election.

Bible Passages for Voting

+++++++++++++++++++++

Entire Church Group at Grace Church of Mentor
Message from: Tim Potter

Dear Church Family,

I would like to restate for you the passages we reviewed regarding our vote in the upcoming November election.

1. God created the home. Genesis 2:24 is clear that marriage is ONLY to be between a man and a woman.

2. God creates human life, and all lives are to be protected. Both Psalm 139:13-16 and Jeremiah 1:5 teach that God loves the yet conceived let alone the unborn child.

3. God created human government to protect what God calls good. Genesis 9:6 and Romans 13:1-5 both teach that God’s design for government is to protect life and promote good.

4. God instituted the local church. Matthew 16:18, Matthew 28:19-20, and Acts 2 all describe the origin, nature and purpose of the church since the first century. If a President is elected that does not stand for what God loves, we stand to lose our freedom to function as a local church in a biblical fashion.

5. God despises when man calls good evil and evil good, Isaiah 5:20. When man supports the redefinition of the home, the murdering of unborn babies, and the ultimate demise of the church if gay marriage is nationally legalized, they call evil good and good evil.

While we may not be able to confidently support either primary candidate, there is one who definitely holds much more to what God loves and has instituted than the other.

One candidate for the first time in our nation’s history has gay marriage as part of his national platform. He liberally supports the slaughtering of unborn babies, and he seeks to call evil good and good evil.

We cannot call ourselves Christian and cast a vote for such darkness. God will judge both us and our nation if we do.

As we follow God’s command to vote and head to the poles in November, don’t vote for a party or a candidate; vote at least for what God loves if for nothing else. This is simply and profoundly our Christian duty!

As your pastor, I strongly urge you to vote. Do not sit idly by while others put into office a candidate that seeks to destroy, home, life, church, and country.

There are many who remain undecided as to who they will vote for on Election Day. Pray that God will grant you an opportunity to speak to any undecided voter and encourage them to vote at least for what God loves.

Finally, pray! 1 Timothy 2:1-4 clearly teaches that Christians are to pray for their governmental leaders. We pray for their salvation and for wisdom that we may lead quiet and useful lives for Christ.

Never before have I been so impassioned to persuade our people to vote and do the right thing. Never before has there been so much at stake! I implore you, do right at least for what God loves.

Please do not vote for the American Dream or your 401k. We can find neither in the Scriptures. Vote for what honors God.

please honor God.

For Christ,
Pastor

Work Truck for sale $900

I am selling my 1988 Dodge Dakota work truck. $900. It has 208,000 miles on it, V6, 5 speed manual. It has a good engine, good tires and good manual transmission. It should pass Missouri state inspection. Does not leak any oil or coolant. Interior is very good. Good radio. CLEAN TITLE.

Nagging problems are: power steering leak (I fill up reservoir about once a month), passenger door doesn't lock, no emergency brake cable (will pass inspection without this). Rust in normal places for a 25 year old truck. No A/C.

This is a dependable old truck. I just drove it to St Louis and back. It runs a lot better when it is driven a lot.

Call me or text to: 816-935-0655

Thanks,
Rolland James

Jessica Ridgeway is missing

Prayers are needed for a neighbor of mine. Her great-granddaughter was kidnapped in Colorado on Friday. She, her daughter and her grandson are trying to raise funds to get to Colorado. The little girl is 10 years old and did not make it to her bus stop. They have found her backpack and a water bottle.

The neighbor's name is Donna Moss.

If you are willing to make a donation to help with her travel expenses to Colorado, please contact Bonnie Bird at: be_a_bird@hotmail.com

KMBC News came to her home and interviewed her yesterday evening.

It is a very sad thing.

Gail Wood - Services and Obituary

Gertrude Gail Wood, 70 of Lee's Summit, MO passed away, Thursday, October 4, 2012 at her daughter’s home in Chesterfield, MO.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday evening, October 12, 2012 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the South Crysler Restoration Branch 16101 E Salisbury Road, Independence, MO 64050.

Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery.

Donations may be made in her name to Harvesters - The Community Food Network 3801 Topping Ave., Kansas City, MO 64129.

Gail was born November 2, 1941 in Philadelphia, PA before moving with her family to Independence at age 9. Gail was a member of the Van Horn High School class of 1959, attended cosmetology school and went to work at SuDora's Hair Salon on the Independence Square. She later opened GaLyn's Hair Salon where she loved both those that worked with her and all the wonderful customers and friends she had over the years.

Known to many as Mom or Nanny, Gail especially loved being around children. She was happiest cooking for others, singing, doing hair and spending time with family and friends. She loved and enjoyed her church family, sang in the choir and was often a guest singer in other congregations or at the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast.

She also enjoyed evenings with friends at the Independence Knife and Fork Club. Most of all, she lived a life that reflected her faith in God, her eternal hope and endless joy. She will also be remembered for the particular strength and courage she possessed and admired for her unconditional love, gentle spirit and remarkable kindness...always.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Gertrude Benson. She is survived by her son Galen Soule, daughter Marcia Grigone and husband Jeff, her brother Frank Benson III and wife Levita and her sister Shirley Ford and husband Ed; additional family, Martha Wood, Connie and Mark Tanner, Jim and Lisa Wood, Mike and Cynthia Wood, Randy and Concetta Waters, 1 niece, 5 nephews, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Philippine Tuition Assistance

From: Mapes, Steve H [SLS]
Steve.H.Mapes@sprint.com

Dear Saints,

This fall we will start another round of fundraising for the next school year for our youth in the Philippines (the SEAAM Tuition Assistance Program). There are over 60 youth who attend school because of contributions by Restoration Saints, Branches, and dear Friends. The good news is we have several young people have already graduated high school and many who have completed their trade school. In fact, we are thankful to report that two finished nursing school, one finished a business degree, and another a forestry degree J so we praise God for that! We also praise him because of the way their own talents/gifts can now be used to help their families and branches to a greater level. It is life changing and we are making a difference in the lives of these saints.

I will never forget how we started this program…I asked one of our teenagers why he was not in school….he said it was for people who had a lot of money (because it cost $15 a month). For about $15 a month our youth can attend High School and for about $65 a month our youth can attend post high school…..so every single dollar makes such a real difference. 100% of the tax deductible donation goes help the youth via their school tuition, books, fees, etc. Our missionaries (whose travel is self supported or often sponsored by their home church) will be bringing tuition funds with them this fall and we really pray that none of these youth will be removed from the program due to a lack of funds. May God Bless You as you do his will and we ask your continued prayers and support for our young people.

Please feel free to share this email with your churches and friends.

God Bless,
Steve

PS – Please make a donation/check payable to the ‘CRE’ (Conference of Restoration Elders) and then write ‘SEAAM Philippine Tuition Fund’ in the Memo (ie Southeast Asian and Australian Ministries). Mail to: CRE, PO Box 4085, Independence MO 64051

Some of your youth during a Restoration Retreat (several cousins in fact) enjoying a break from activities…they can attend school because of your generous donations.

The young man is Jonathan and he was featured in an issue of the Tidings of Zion magazine!

BOOK OF THE MONTH—OCTOBER

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: oldbookman@juno.com

BOOK OF THE MONTH—OCTOBER
STRENGTH FOR THE JOURNEY
by Doris N. Jordan

Strength for the journey comes from many sources—the Word of God, experiences, the brush of angel wings, the fleeting glimpse of a loved one who has gone before. God never leaves us alone.

This is the autobiography of the wife of Elder John Jordan. She is also the mother of John Jordan, Larry Jordan, Hope Jordan Richards, and Sue Jordan Taylor. The extended family has been known to many as the singing group, “Brother John.”

The book includes valuable spiritual lessons. Don’t waste the time you have on earth. The army of the Lord is growing, watered by the blood of those who have gone before. The Church will be lifted up, pure, white, and glorious, ready for the return of the King. “May we work together for the cause of Zion, and through each step of the way find the needed strength for the journey.”

This book was published in 1996. It is a new, softcover book with 438 pages and many photos. The regular price is $5.00, but this month it is available for only $3.00—with no limit and no requirement to purchase other books. There are 120 books available at this price, so you can purchase several to give as gifts. Offer good until October 31, 2012, or while supplies last.

Order by e-mail to Oldbookman@juno.com or by phone—816 210-8450.

Go to the Oldbookman.us website to see lists of thousands of RLDS books that are available. Check out more than 150 titles for only $1.00 each.
