Help for the McCunes

Help for the McCunes
Many of you know that Karmi McCune is battling cancer. She is receiving chemo treatments and is very weak. It would be a great help for them to have meals brought in several times a week. Karmi needs things easy to digest with no extra spices or grease. If you would like to also make something for the family, they would be appreciative since their "main cook and bottle washer" is out of commission. Please mark your dishes with who they are for and if they need to be returned to you.
Also, since she is very weak, they are asking for visits of no more than 10 minutes when dropping off the food.
Ron is also in need of some ladies to help stay with Karmi a few times a week so he can work or run errands.
If you can help, please contact Marie Johnson for the details. (816) 591-1429

Urgent prayer request
Saints
I just received word from Eric Odida in Kenya. He is requesting your immediate and constant prayer cover for him and the Governor. The opposition is making advances and “moving in”. He said “each day they make it home without a bad incident is a miracle”. Please now and as you are prompted hold Eric, his family and the Governor up in your prayers that the Lord would dispatch his angels to protect them.
Thanks

Book of Mormon Roundtable February 15, 2015
Notes by Fran Manning
Information Neil Steede shared on February 15, 2015 at Book of Mormon Roundtable held at Stone Church every 3rd Sunday evening at 6 PM.
Members of the church have an organization known as Hill Cumorah Expedition Team, Inc. It is a 501c3 Missouri not-for-profit corporation dedicated to the study, research and dissemination of information as it pertains to the Book of Mormon. The primary focus is to research and assemble archaeological and other related information to help establish the historical feasibility of the Book of Mormon. Their website is www.hceti.org. David, Mike and Tim Brown, Chris Scott and Neil Steede are the men I have met who are organizers of this corporation. Each year they make trips to BOM sites.
The exciting thing about this group is that their information is accepted under ESRS. That is the Early Sites Research Society which is made up of doctors from universities all across the nation who study pre-Columbian information. Harvard has newly signed on to this organization, Yale has been involved longer. Their publication is the “Pre-Columbiana” and it is written scientifically with no religious input. Glenn Scott subscribes to this magazine and said the last edition cost him $40. He enjoys reading it.
Neil said his job is to bring archeological evidence to Book of Mormon believers. He has been allowed to go places and see things most of us could never do because of his reputation of honesty and his knowledge of the subject. I feel so blessed to live where I can hear him share these wonderful Book of Mormon happenings at this time.
Previously the tunnel under the Pyramid of the Sun, north of Mexico City, was excavated. When I was living in California our congregation at Long Beach made a trip down to Mexico City and the Yucatan peninsula. We stood on top of the Pyramid of the Sun. It was after this that the tunnel, 40 feet below the pyramid, was discovered.
In 2010 the Pyramid of Quetzelcoatle was found to have a tunnel under it as well, also 40 feet below the pyramid. This pyramid is located near the Pyramid of the Sun but was purposely hidden by its builders to be discovered in a time appointed by the Lord. So far 70,000 artifacts have been removed. By comparison King Tut’s tomb contained 35,000 artifacts. The Hill Cumorah Expedition Team made a trip down there in October of 2014. Neil Steed, Mike Brown and Doug Smith were allowed into the tunnel. It is necessary to enter the tunnel by climbing down a 40 foot ladder. Neil realizes it is a miracle he could even do this as he is legally blind and paralyzed on his right side due to a stroke. He said getting down was easier than getting back up.
This tunnel was built during the Golden Age of the Nephites. There are 19 chambers down this long tunnel. Thus far all the artifacts are from the years immediately preceding the Golden Age. It is a time when they changed from the lunar calendar to the solar calendar. The remainder of the tunnel and its artifacts will give us an idea of what went on during the Golden Age of the Nephites and this information we do not have.
Neil said the most recent subject that the ESRS (Early Sites Research Society) has dealt with was the Mayan prophecy found on Stele 6. If you remember everyone talking about the end coming on December 21, 2012, this is where that information came from but the problem was that the message was not complete as the end of it was smashed and unreadable. However, there was a brick with the complete message on it and it read, “the end will be on 12/21/2012, then Quetzelcoatle will begin seeding His field.” I found this not only very interesting but very reasonable. Jesus Christ is returning soon and prior to that event wouldn’t he begin “seeding His field?”
Neil went on to say that Joseph Smith gave us 5 historical gifts.
1. Book of Mormon
2. Story of Enoch Neil said to date 5 books of Enoch have been found.
3. Adam-ondi-amin Neil mention a Ben Stein film “Expelled” which discusses evolution. He also spoke of the Plasticene Coalition. I’m sharing what I heard and don’t know how these tie together and hope Neil will explain more at a later date. Neil also said he has some artifacts from the area, skulls I believe but don’t quote me on that.
I’m sure there is more to this that I have understanding of at this time.
4. Zelf, a white Lamanite, friend of Onodagus a prophet to the Lamanites. I never heard of this prior to now. When the saints of Zion’s Camp were traveling to Independence from Kirtland they camped for the night and a skeleton was discovered. Joseph Smith told them it was the bones of Zelf, a friend of Onodagus. Zelf lived 1,000 years after Jesus Christ. Obviously Joseph Smith received this information by revelation but that is my opinion and was not so stated by Neil.
5. Kinderhook plates which are in a Chicago Field Museum. They are 8 little brass plates in the shape of hatchet heads. When found Joseph Smith said they told the story of Abraham and Isaac but at that time of their discovery the script on them was said to not exist and could not be translated. Today the script is known to exist and the story on them has proven to be of Abraham and Isaac.
In June the HCETi is making another trip to Mexico City and the tunnel excavation. Anyone who wants to join the team can go. Everyone pays their own expenses. They do collect donations for the use of putting out their information and the work they do at the various sites. They print a nice paper called “Cumorah Messenger” with many timely articles of recent discoveries which prove the Book of Mormon message is true.
I wish you could have been there to hear these things from Neil himself.
It was a bitter cold evening at 15 degrees and it had just begun to snow so our group was small, probably about 35, but it was heart warming to hear this news.
I should mention that to begin tonight’s program Shirley Heater and Marlin Guinn told of combining their two Book of Mormon groups into one, The Book of Mormon Foundation which has been going on for 50+ years. This group was first begun by Thelona Stevens, Apostle Charles Hield, and others (Roy and Walter Weldon and Tom E. Thomas were mentioned) and known as The Foundation for Research of Ancient America, a.k.a FRAA. Shirley was secretary for Thelona Stevens for many years.
If you are ever in Independence please visit the Book of Mormon Foundation on White Oak Avenue just north of the Independence Square. They have been blessed to be the keepers of Bob Farley’s beautiful Book of Mormon paintings as well as other Book of Mormon artifacts. Shirley Heater is also the keeper of Ray Treat’s library of over 3,000 books. There is no charge to view these things. Knock on the door if it is locked. Sue Manning is usually there to let you in.

G'Day! One and All
Greetings to all from very warm Australia! I arrived in Sydney NSW, on Fri. Feb 13, 2015 and was very blessed to be met by Danny Archer who helped with luggage and to get me to the terminal from which I would continue my journey. Danny works in Sydney. I flew on to Tamworth and was greeted by the members of the Tamworth RB.
We have taken ministry to Goondiwindi, Kendall, Port Macquarie, and Tamworth. I will be leaving Tamworth on Friday, Feb. 27 to drive to Brisbane, QLD, a seven hour drive and my first time to drive solo while here. Brother Bob Wilkinson has been my driving instructor and says he thinks I am ready, with a few clear instructions, stay on the road, watch the speed limit, and avoid the kangaroos. I will be in the Brisbane area for about five days ministering in the branch and visiting some of the isolated Saints.
I will be returning to Tamworth, then going tp Parkville, and later Sydney, Adelaide, back to Sydney, Euroa, and back to Tamworth. We will then meet the Saints for their reunion April 3-6 at beautiful Mt. Seaview Resort. I will be returning home on April 8, provided you have winter over and it is still warm here.
Please remember the Saints in Australia, especially as they gather for the reunion. There will be about 40 or so in attendance. Doug & Judi Smith, Hal & Pat Chadwick, and Daniel & Lauren Nixon will be here for the reunion and afterwards.
God bless you all,
In Christ,
Paul Gage

Authorship of LDS D&C Section 132 Determined by Writing Style Analysis
From: MELODY NELSON
beyedoers@prtel.com
Addendum (2/6/15): Authorship of LDS D&C Section 132 Determined by Writing Style Analysis
WHO WROTE SECTION 132?
A careful analysis of the writings of Joseph Smith II
brought several things to light, at least for this writer.
First, Joseph Smith’s writings were strongly Elizabethan in
style. Second, because of the peculiarity of his writing
style, it is evident that Section 132, the purported
revelation on polygamy, was not written by Joseph Smith. Third, a
careful analysis of the writings of numerous contemporaries
of Joseph Smith strongly indicates the true authorship of
Section 132.
I
One characteristic of Elizabethan literature is the
infrequent use of simple sentences, the use of many complex
sentences, and especially the use of compound sentences
having numerous independent clauses.
An analysis of the opening stanzas of William
Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream revealed that the
first sentence had five independent clauses; the next,
three; the third five; and the fourth two. In Act I,
Scene 1 of King Lear there were forty-six compound sentences,
three having four independent clauses each. Hamlet and
Macbeth had more complex sentences; however, in Act I...

Prayer Request
Desiree Goode was born yesterday 02-18-15. She is having respiratory distress and a very hard time keeping her O2 levels high enough and was sent to another hosp than she was born in to see what can be done. She is the fourth child of a little military family stationed in Kansas.
Her Grandpa Doug Goode is asking prayers for her and her family. Can we please wrap this sweet little angel in prayers for strong lungs and complete healing. I'm asking not only to pray for her but pass this request along to anyone that will say a prayer for her too. It is stressful enough to be in the military without worrying about your baby. Thank you.

MISSOURI PRECINCT PROJECT/MOPP
Because “All politics is local"
At the bottom of this e-mail is a Liberty Tools Witness form and explanation of the negative effects of HB 382 as summarized by Anne Gassel at Missouri Coalition Against Common Core. Immediately below this writing (in italics) is my testimony that I submitted on Liberty Tools this morning. Please read the information, and don't miss this opportunity to exercise your freedom of conscience.
Mandatory participation in guidance and counseling programs that teach values clarification violates Article 1, Section 5 of the Missouri Constitution, "Religious freedom--liberty of conscience and belief--limitations.
Section 5. . . .; that no human authority can control or interfere with the rights of conscience; . . .; " and coerces schools, through an unfunded mandate. to participate in that violation through the MSIP evaluation process. HB 382 opens a Pandora's box for violating freedom of religion and freedom of conscience. The American Humanist Association has as it's goal the teaching of its anti-religious values through public schools as per the following quote from its 10 Commitments webpage, "Many students spend as much or more time in school than they do at home. Therefore, the school must be a place that supports family and community efforts to build strong values. Consistent with our constitution and our ever-changing diverse society, such values can and ought to be taught free of ideology and theology." (http://americanhumanist.org/HNN/details/2012-08-ten-commitments-guiding-principles-for-teaching-valu) This goal is in direct conflict with the goal of parents who teach their children values as a matter of faith, and violates the establishment clause of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution as well as the 14th Amendment which reads in part that “no state shall … deprive any person of life, liberty or property without due process of law… .” In 1947 the Supreme Court held in Everson v. Board of Education that the establishment clause is one of the “liberties” protected by the due-process clause. From that point on, all government action, whether at the federal, state, or local level, must abide by the restrictions of the establishment clause. That said, the Missouri legislature must not pass a bill that violates rather than protects the freedom of religion or conscience of the citizens of Missouri. Vote no on HB 382. Mary Byrne

Subject: Witness form for Dangerous Education Bill - HB 382
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Details about HB 382 from Missouri Coalition Against Common Core:
HB382 (Swan) Requires school districts to establish comprehensive guidance and counseling programs for students attending school in the district
Accreditation Based on Guidance Program
The very first section of this bill makes everything in the bill part of the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP) which is the DESE framework on how district accreditation is determined. Since the bill allows DESE to "assess penalties for failing to comply" with this law, we know that districts will place the same kind of importance on guidance counseling that they currently do on other aspects of MSIP such as school attendance. School districts will enact every portion of this bill as required by DESE in order to maximize their points on their accreditation. Parental displeasure with anything put in place by the district will no longer matter.
Manditory Participation for grades 3 thru 12
The second section of the bill requires that every student from grades 3-12 participate in the program. Just like the draconian attendance policies, districts will place pressure on families to participate in all aspects in this bill. Some of those aspects are about setting college and career goals. Imagine requiring 8 and 9 years old children to set such long range goals. Some of this involves setting goals for "social and personal development" that the student and parents will be required to adhere to and support. It will no longer be the parents' duty to monitor and shape their child's social development. A plan, developed through assessment and self reporting, will be on file with the school (and w/ DESE and third parties?). This provision makes every provision after it all the more dire.
1990s Style Values Clarification
The bill further elevates the role of the guidance counselor from what it already is under MSIP into that of a teacher in the classroom who will be teaching a "guidance curriculum." If you want to know what that looks like, just check out the 1000 page document on the guidance curriculum on DESE's website here Notice that there is an entire section on Personal and Social Development which is Values Clarification from the 1990's. Think of the now classic limited life boat space exercise that asks children to come up with rational for kicking people out of a lifeboat. And remember that these guidance counselors will not be in the parent teacher conferences to tell you about what values they are teaching your child.
Empowers Schools to Override Parents Directives for Their Children
In numerous instances it gives the school counselors and staff the authority to intervene "on your child's behalf" for anything they perceive to put your child's "educational, career, personal, or social development at risk." This would, potentially include anything the parents have decided to prohibit their child from doing that the school wants them to do.
Unfunded Mandates
The bill also requires districts to "establish a counseling center in each school building of the district" that is large enough to house all the comprehensive guidance programs, personnel and equipment. This is an unfunded mandate for more spending in each district for programs not initiated at the local level.
In short this bill gives DESE enormous power to dictate to districts exactly what type of counseling they want our children to receive. That counseling will shape their view of school only as a place to learn job skills, or prepare them for college which will then give them job skills. The last section of the bill authorizes the State Board of Education (which will work through DESE) to promulgate all the rules and regulations that go with this program. Does anyone trust DESE to do this? A Republican dominated legislature should not be granting DESE this much power and authority.
We believe that it is not possible to support any section of this bill. Should it make it out of committee we need to contact all our Representatives and tell them not to vote for HB382 if it comes to the House floor.

I am forwarding this email information to ask you to please consider filling out a witness form. Even a few sentences explaining your opposition to HB 382 makes a big difference.
When you click on “WITNESS form link for HB 382” there will be a message at the top of the page that will keep you updated and let you know when they are no longer excepting witness forms.
Here is the update at the time of sending this email:
“IMPORTANT NOTE: The hearing for HB 382 will NOT be Wednesday, as we thought. The hearing date is uncertain at this time, but we should know more by the end of the day Wednesday and will let you know. That means we have more time to collect witness forms. “
Thank you,
Terry Howen

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Couple had house fire - need place to stay
On Saturday morning, 2.14.2015, a family in our Mobile Home Park experienced a devastating fire that destroyed all that they owned. Thankfully, the couple was not home at the time of the fire, but I am sad to report that not only did they lose their beloved animals; they lost everything they owned in the fire. Unfortunately at the time of the fire, the family had no insurance. They will need everything to help set up their home again once they have found a place to call home. There was a bible found in the debris with the owner’s name engraved on the cover under the engraved words, Jesus Loves You. What a beautiful message that God left for them. I was talking with the manager and we agreed that God uses his people to bless those in need.
Any gifts of love will be accepted and are being collected in the office at Independence Mobile Home Park (right across from the Monterey Park Rehab Health Care Center, off of Little Blue Parkway) Call: 816-795-0990 Thank you!

Rudolph Leslie Leutzinger, Professor Emeritus from the University of Missouri, passed away on the evening of January 30, 2015.

He graduated from Lamoni High School and attended Graceland College before serving in the U.S. Navy as a Radio Technician on the USS Valencia. His was the first Allied ship to traverse the mine infested waters and enter Nagoya, Japan, in August, 1945.
After WWII, Dr. Leutzinger received graduate degrees in engineering from Iowa State University and the University of Iowa. Joseph Smith Fought Polygamy
From: MELODY NELSON
beyedoers@prtel.com
Just finished reading Joseph Smith Fought Polygamy, Volume 2. Extraordinary scholarship! Again.
More than once I’ve heard these words with regard to this particular research project: “Who cares?” Others apply some of Hillary Clinton‘s rationale on Benghazi, “At this point, what difference does it make?” “Who cares whether Joseph Smith was a polygamist or not?” I submit that proving Joseph’s innocence matters a great deal. The Restoration Scriptures condemn polygamy in unambiguous terms, as did the Prophet Joseph throughout his lifetime. I, for one, would have great difficulty accepting the finding that the Church to which I became an adult convert, Christ’s true Church, was restored through a liar. But, of course, I’m not required to accept any such thing. Joseph was not a liar. Joseph Smith Fought Polygamy provides irrefutable evidence that Joseph neither sanctioned, taught, nor practiced polygamy. The world needs to know this. I agree with the editorial comments re JSFP from Vision magazine, No. 82 (full article attached to this email):
“The continued work of publishing Joseph Smith Fought Polygamy is extremely important. Before the Gospel can roll forth in power to all nations, Joseph’s name must be cleared of all lies against him.
We believe Joseph Smith Fought Polygamy will play an important role in doing this.”
I will be happy to loan anyone my copies of JSFP, Volumes 1 and 2, or you can order the books through the link below:

You can also read Volumes 1 and 2, and the chapters subsequent to Volume 2 as they become available, online:
