"As it was in the days of Noe (Noah)" From Francis
You may recall the words of Jesus spoken to the Pharisees and Sadducees: “. . . when it is evening ye say, the weather is fair, for the sky is red; and in the morning ye say, the weather is foul today; for the sky is red and lowering. O hypocrites! Ye can discern the face of the sky; but ye cannot tell the signs of the times” (Matthew 16:1-3).
I am amazed at the accuracy of weather forecasting today. Great strides have been made in the science of predicting the weather. Are we making any progress in discerning the signs of the times?
Jesus told his disciples to watch for the signs of his coming. If God had revealed the day of his Son’s return, we would quite likely procrastinate the days of our preparations. Not knowing “neither the day nor the hour” behooves us to be prepared at all times.
In response to his disciple’s question, “What is the sign of thy coming?”, he said, “Take heed that no man deceive you” (Matthew 24:4 IV; 24:3 KJV). We have witnessed much deception, even within the church, in recent years. My grandmother wisely counseled me before my teenage years to remember the words of Jeremiah: “Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm . . . Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is” (Jeremiah 17:5,7).
Paul warned Timothy: “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come . . . For evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived” (2 Timothy 3:1, 13). We have recently witnessed wickedness, lying and the intent to deceive in the highest echelons of our government.
We must rely upon the Lord and his Holy Spirit to help us escape the wiles of the wicked. Only those who are led by the Spirit and who treasure up the words of Jesus will be equipped to overcome the snares of Satan and his servants. Jesus warned, “And again, beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing; but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits” (Matthew 7:24-25 IV; 7:15-16 KJV).
As we watch and read the daily news, we are made increasingly aware that we are living near the end of the age and the time of the Lord’s appearing. We who are endeavoring to remain steadfast, in spite of all the distractions and deceptions of our day, are called to keep our eyes open, watching for the signs of his coming as we continue our secular tasks. The Lord gave Noah a seven-day notice of the coming of the flood (Genesis 8:32 IV; 7:4 KJV). Surely the Lord will also give the saints of our day some hints as the day of his coming becomes more imminent.
My fellow travelers to Nepal in 2014 were Brian Herren and Travis Clark. After departing from Paris on the second leg of our journey, I soon closed my eyes and went to sleep. An unknown length of time later, I was suddenly awakened. The sky was clear and directly in front of my window was a beautiful, snow-capped mountain, framed by a bright blue sky. It was Mount Ararat! It is easily identified by Little Ararat, which stands nearby. I had admired these mountains in 1991, when I had traveled to the Noah’s Ark site in Eastern Turkey.
It was obvious to me the Lord had arranged this precious experience. I had been assigned a window seat, on the left side of the aircraft, which I had not requested; I had been awakened in the precise timing of the Lord on an eight-hour flight to New Delhi, India! I was able to arouse Brian to share this scene of unsurpassed beauty and significance. We who are living today have been warned again to prepare, “for as it was in the days of Noe; so shall it be also in the days of the Son of Man” (Luke 17:26).
My love to all,
