June 2017
Around and about the Centre Place by High Priest Paul Gage, Independence, Missouri.

In many countries, the month of June is a month for weddings, as well as days to honor fathers and children. Regardless of when a country or people may or may not have official; days for such celebrations, it is always in order, according to our Heavenly Father, to obey His commandments, especially regarding the family and our relationships with HIM and with one another.

In Genesis 1:29 IV we find these words, “And I, God, created man in mine own image, in the image of mine Only Begotten created I him; male and female created I them.” In Genesis 2:23-24 God said to His Only Begotten, It was not good that the man should be alone; Wherefore I will make an HELP MEET for him. Continuing in 2:30 we have the following instructions.

“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife; and they shall be ONE FLESH.” This was

the beginning of the family on earth which was and still is intended to be the basic unit to assist in the coming forth of God’s Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. As Adam and Eve and we are created in God’s Image, we are to reflect His Image in our lives.

Though our first parents sinned and were cast out of the Garden of Eden, God presented to them His plan of redemption- repentance and sacrifice offerings which were to be a similitude of the sacrifice of the Only Begotten of the Father which is full of grace and truth. The Holy Spirit fell upon Adam in Genesis 4:9 and said to Adam, “That as thou hast fallen, thou mayest be redeemed, and all mankind, even as many as will.” Thus came the family in the flesh and the opportunity to be a part of the family of God. Through the gift of agency, man was granted the privilege of deciding for himself whether he (we) would choose God as our Father, or not. The concept that Jesus died on the cross to save all mankind is not the total truth. A person must believe and accept Jesus as their Savior in order to be freed from sin. In Genesis 3:4-5 it is recorded that the purpose or plan of Satan, the Devil, is to deceive, blind and lead captive, at his will, even as many as would not hearken to God.

Therefore, today, we face the same struggles as did Adam and Eve when tempted to partake of the fruit from the wrong tree. The results of mankind partaking from the wrong trees is so obvious that a person would have to be almost physically dead to not be aware of the destruction that is taking place in the lives of every individual, every family, the Church, the nations of the world, and every aspect of our lives. At certain points in history, we of the church were appreciative that the lives of the Saints did not reflect the ways of the world, but today, the divorce rate among the Saints is as high as the world. There are as many of the Saints living in non-married relationships with those of the opposite sex or even those of the same sex, as those of “the world.” There are as many divided homes, divided families, divided Branches/groups among the church as there are in the world and other religions and denominations. What does all this “say” about the image we are projecting to the world? If we are truly honest with ourselves and look in the mirror (glass) as James states in 1:23-24, can we just go on with our lives and think that God will “wink” at the deception of our own selves? It can be so much better than that if we follow the counsel in II Corinthians 3:16-18 and truly turn to
the Lord…and “are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” God’s plan was for Adam to have an HELP MEET, Eve and the two become one. This goes far beyond the physical attractions and differences between male and female. They were intended to be a “mirror image” of each other and of God, since we are created in His Image. That there are many differences between male and female is obvious and also part of God’s plan as man and wife are to use the gifts and talents given by God to help the other fulfill their purpose of creation and thus adequately reflect the image of God in our whole
life. Mankind has chosen to deface the image of God in our lives through disobedience to His commandments. In Doctrine and Covenants 38:6a we find these words, “Be one; and if ye are not one, ye are not mine. Many people and factional groups like to cite this scripture in trying to get people to come together without really getting to the root of what has brought about the differences. This scripture goes far beyond the church and all the divisions among the Saints and people in general. If there is a lack of “oneness” in the home, there will be a lack of “oneness” in every aspect of our lives. It is all about relationships: Mankind
to God, mankind to mankind, within the family, in church, at work, play, out in society, or wherever. If we are not one with God, we cannot be one with anyone else. Thus today, how can we say we love God, whom we cannot see and hate, if we dislike, or have aught against a brother or sister whom we can see and who we are commanded to go to and reconcile? Jesus did not come to die to reconcile God to man, but the exact opposite-to reconcile man to God and we cannot be reconciled to God until we are reconciled to any and all with whom we are at odds.

To achieve a “Zionic condition,” we must accept what we are told in Doctrine and Covenants 140:5c, that it is our own spiritual condition that is keeping Zion at a distance. We cannot expect to share in God’s Kingdom or even the Sacraments and Ordinances of the Church if we are not reconciled to all those with whom we have contact or know there are ill feelings. We have gone through the season of the Crucifixion and Resurrection of our Lord, Mother’s Day in May and we will have Children’s Day and Father’s Day in June, but all of these are just a “show” unless there is real sincerity and love in our hearts, not for just a day, but for an eternity. John 13:34-35 reads, “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; AS I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” Also, in John 15, the parable of the Vine and the Branches, read all of it, but again, note verse 12. “This is my commandment, that ye love one another, AS I have loved you.” This is our calling today-as husband to wife, wife to husband, parent to child, child to child, brother to sister, Saints to society, or whatever the relationship might be, to be in the Image of God.

In June, around the Centre Place, things will be getting very busy, as the camp and reunion seasons get underway. There will be a reunion each week in June with three of them being in or near Independence, Missouri and one in Lamoni, Iowa. The last week of June, will be the Restoration Branch Family Reunion and Conference of Restoration Elders (CRE), co-sponsored by the CRE and the Pastors of Zion (POZ). This reunion/conference is held in Independence, Missouri at Centre Place Restoration and was started in 2012. Some of the services will be livestreamed and can be viewed by Saints around the world :. is the web contact. There will also be a number of youth camps as listed in the last Tidings of Zion. Centre Place Restoration School concludes another year of operation. It continues to strive to meet the needs of the children and young people of the church. Brother Dan Schoenemann will be returning as Administrator of the school. The POZ sponsored a series of Church Heritage gatherings in the spring with a Sacrament Service and April 2, 2017 and special AUSTRALIAN RESTORATION NEWS purchase of the Joseph Smith III home in Independence, Missouri.

The missionary groups, ARM,GEM, LAMB, and SEAAM continue to provide ministry in the areas of the world they serve.

Excitement is also high regarding ministry in the USA among the Navajo Saints in Arizona and the Domestic Outreach Committee. Articles concerning these areas of interest are included in the next Tidings of Zion, which should be in the mail by mid-June.

The Saints of Australia continue to be in our daily prayers and we long for the time when we can be together again, whether in Zion, or before, as the Lord might direct. It was thrilling surprise to see Brother and Sister Neville Churchill at a service at Colbern Road Restoration Branch near Independence, Missouri in April. We still remember, with the warm hospitality and lovely meal we enjoyed in their home on our trip last year. WE also remember, with GREAT LOVE and appreciation, the same Saintly treatment we received in all the homes and places we visited last year. The Lord bless you each and keep you in His loving arms, is our prayer.

Riches from the Scriptures Volume 03 by Elder Neil Kerswell, Brisbane, Australia

Chapter 5 The Last Days – What are They Like

David the Psalmist was prophetic in his writings, they are beautiful much like poetry, ministry and song combined as one. In this particular Psalm he speaks of a time when God shall stand upon the Earth in Judgement. As I have spoken with men and women in the workplace over the years there is a general consensus amongst both believer and non- believer that the world we live in is becoming more unstable, some who were in the position to have children have said they seriously consider not bringing children into a world they believe is becoming unsafe for them to live out their lives. Others who have had children were scared for their future and freedom. As I have listened to their concerns I have mixed feelings. It is prophesied times like this will come and they are a sign that Christ coming upon the Earth is getting closer, this is a great joy and hope of ours to meet our Lord! However we must feel sympathy and empathy for
those that don’t have hope in Christ. Encouraging where ever possible to believe.

[Psalm 12:1] In that day thou shalt help, O Lord, the poor and the meek of the earth. For the godly man shall cease to be found, and the faithful fail from among the children of men.
[Psalm 12:2] They shall speak vanity every one with his neighbor; with flattering lips, with a double heart do they speak.
[Psalm 12:3] But the Lord shall cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that speaketh proud things,
[Psalm 12:4] Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail, our lips are our own, who shall be Lord over us?
[Psalm 12:5] Therefore, thus saith the Lord, I will arise in that day, I will stand upon the earth, and I will judge the earth for the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy; and their cry hath entered into mine ear.
[Psalm 12:6] Therefore the Lord shall sit in judgment upon all those who say in their hearts, We all sit in safety; and puffeth at him. These are the words of the Lord; yea, pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
[Psalm 12:7] Thou shalt save thy people, O Lord; thou shalt keep them; thou shalt preserve them from the wickedness of their generations forever.
[Psalm 12:8] The wicked walk on every side, and the vilest men are exalted; but in the day of their pride thou shalt visit them.
We live in a time when literally, if something is good, it is often described in public as being “Wicked or Sick” and is done so with much feeling and expression. I remember first hearing these sayings amongst young people when I was a young man. I did a worship service amongst the church youth with the warnings in scripture that these exact sayings would come in the last days and that we as members shouldn’t say them.

When I was a boy the older generation often quoted that when Christ comes he says “will I find any faithful”. My church experience in those days I would even describe now as stable and strong and felt like it would always be available to me and I struggled back then to imagine a time when most people would stop believing. Now being almost 50 years of age, I am seeing it fulfilled in an ever increasing manner. I pray unceasing for my children that they will be able to hold on and not let go, because I see the difficulty of the times in which they live.

The 12 th Psalm describes a time when sincerity and virtue is rare, and if you think about it without faith in God and a desire to keep His commandments. Standards of good living will and must quickly decay away. Because unless people believe they must make an accounting of their life and that the consequences are of Eternal effect, what is the

motivation to be good and virtuous? Unless we believe that God is the source of all goodness through the Life of Jesus Christ, why would we seek to be like Jesus? (Filled with Truth, Love, Kindness, Mercy, Grace, and Justice). We who believe have the hope as is given in so many scriptures we have read together so far that God will save His People.

The societies throughout the world which lean upon their own understanding cannot endure and must unavoidably fail and fall. Only that which is built upon Christ being the chief cornerstone can endure forever. This does not just mean Church, it means every facet of our lives (Personal, Family, Church and Community).

This is why there will come a time when Zion (The City of God) will be the only people not at war one with each other, the only place where there is no poor or sick. The only place with people of one heart and one mind.

2 Peter 3:1-14 Christ’s second coming
[2 Peter 3:1] This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance;
[2 Peter 3:2] That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandments of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior;
[2 Peter 3:3] Knowing this first, that in the last days there shall come scoffers, walking after their own lusts.
[2 Peter 3:4] Denying the Lord Jesus Christ, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things must continue as they are, and have continued as they are from the beginning of the creation.

[2 Peter 3:5] For this they willingly are ignorant of, that of old the heavens, and the earth standing in the water and out of the water, were created by the word of God;
[2 Peter 3:6] And by the word of God, the world that then was, being overflowed with water perished;
[2 Peter 3:7] But the heavens, and the earth which are now, are kept in store by the same word, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
[2 Peter 3:8] But concerning the coming of the Lord, beloved, I would not have you ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
[2 Peter 3:9] The Lord is not slack concerning his promise and coming, as some men count slackness; but long-suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
[2 Peter 3:10] But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in the which the heavens shall shake, and the earth also shall tremble, and the mountains shall melt, and pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall be filled with fervent heat; the earth also shall be filled, and the corruptible works which are therein shall be burned up.
[2 Peter 3:11] If then all these things shall be destroyed, what manner of persons ought ye to be in holy conduct and godliness,
[2 Peter 3:12] Looking unto, and preparing for the day of the coming of the Lord wherein the corruptible things of the heavens being on fire, shall be dissolved, and the mountains shall melt with fervent heat?
[2 Peter 3:13] Nevertheless, if we shall endure, we shall be kept according to his promise. And we look for a new heavens, and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness.
[2 Peter 3:14] Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent, that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot and blameless;

Speaking of the last days we are told there shall be scoffers walking in their own ways, I understand this to mean people making fun of anyone who walks after the ways of God. There shall be people who deny the existence of Jesus Christ and question his coming again to the earth. There is a great judgement of fire coming upon all Ungodly. We are reminded that a day is but a thousand years and a thousand years as a day with God and that what he has said will all be fulfilled. Don’t doubt His word. God has given many generations opportunity to Repent and be changed because of His love towards us. However there is a time coming when wickedness shall be removed and many caught unawares.

We who believe are counselled to be in Holy Conduct and Godliness, constantly looking towards and preparing for the coming of the Lord. Even though there shall be great destructions taking place, if we can endure in the Lord we shall be kept according to God’s promise. May we be as required; diligent, peaceful and without spot and blameless. It is only through the righteousness in Christ by the power of His Spirit that this can be achieved.

D&C 1: 1a – 8c In the Church
[Sec 1:1a] Hearken, O ye people of my church, saith the voice of him who dwells on high, and whose eyes are upon all men; yea, verily I say, Hearken ye people from afar, and ye that are upon the islands of the sea, listen together;
[Sec 1:1b] for verily the voice of the Lord is unto all men, and there is none to escape, and there is no eye that shall not see, neither ear that shall not hear, neither heart that shall not be penetrated;
[Sec 1:1c] and the rebellious shall be pierced with much sorrow, for their iniquities shall be spoken upon the
housetops, and their secret acts shall be revealed;
[Sec 1:1d] and the voice of warning shall be unto all people, by the mouths of my disciples, whom I have chosen in these last days, and they shall go forth and none shall stay them, for I the Lord have commanded them.
[Sec 1:2a] Behold, this is mine authority, and the authority of my servants, and my preface unto the book of my commandments, which I have given them to publish unto you, O inhabitants of the earth;
[Sec 1:2b] wherefore fear and tremble, O ye people, for what I the Lord have decreed, in them, shall be fulfilled.
[Sec 1:2c] And verily, I say unto you, that they who go forth, bearing these tidings unto the inhabitants of the earth, to them is power given to seal, both on earth and in heaven, the unbelieving and rebellious;
[Sec 1:2d] yea, verily, to seal them up unto the day when the wrath of God shall be poured out upon the wicked without measure;
[Sec 1:2e] unto the day when the Lord shall come to recompense unto every man according to his work, and measure to every man according to the measure which he has measured to his fellow man.
[Sec 1:3a] Wherefore the voice of the Lord is unto the ends of the earth, that all that will hear may hear;
[Sec 1:3b] prepare ye, prepare ye for that which is to come, for the Lord is nigh; and the anger of the Lord is kindled, and his sword is bathed in heaven, and it shall fall upon the inhabitants of the earth; and the arm of the Lord shall be revealed;
[Sec 1:3c] and the day cometh that they who will not hear the voice of the Lord, neither the voice of his servants, neither give heed to the words of the prophets and apostles, shall be cut off from among the people;
[Sec 1:3d] for they have strayed from mine ordinances, and have broken mine everlasting covenant; they seek not the Lord to establish his righteousness,
[Sec 1:3e] but every man walketh in his own way, and after the image of his own god, whose image is in the likeness of the world, and whose substance is that of an idol, which waxeth old and shall perish in Babylon, even Babylon the great, which shall fall.
[Sec 1:4a] Wherefore I the Lord, knowing the calamity which should come upon the inhabitants of the earth, called upon my servant Joseph Smith, Jr., and spake unto him from heaven, and gave him commandments, and also gave commandments to others, that they should proclaim these things unto the world;
[Sec 1:4b] and all this that it might be fulfilled, which was written by the prophets;
[Sec 1:4c] the weak things of the world shall come forth and break down the mighty and strong ones, that man should not counsel his fellow man, neither trust in the arm of flesh, but that every man might speak in the name of God the Lord, even the Savior of the world;
[Sec 1:4d] that faith also might increase in the earth; that mine everlasting covenant might be established;
[Sec 1:4e] that the fullness of my gospel might be proclaimed by the weak and the simple, unto the ends of the world, and before kings and rulers.
[Sec 1:5a] Behold, I am God, and have spoken it; these commandments are of me, and were given unto my servants in their weakness, after the manner of their language, that they might come to understanding;
[Sec 1:5b] and inasmuch as they erred it might be made known; and inasmuch as they sought wisdom they might be instructed;
[Sec 1:5c] and inasmuch as they sinned they might be chastened, that they might repent; and inasmuch as they were humble, they might be made strong, and blessed from on high, and receive knowledge from time to time;
[Sec 1:5d] and after having received the record of the Nephites, yea, even my servant Joseph Smith, Jr., might have power to translate, through the mercy of God, by the power of God, the Book of Mormon;
[Sec 1:5e] and also those to whom these commandments were given might have power to lay the foundation of this church, and to bring it forth out of obscurity, and out of darkness, the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth, with which I the Lord am well pleased, speaking unto the church collectively and not individually;
[Sec 1:5f] for I the Lord cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance; nevertheless, he that repents and does the commandments of the Lord shall be forgiven;
[Sec 1:5g] and he that repents not, from him shall be taken even the light which he has received, for my Spirit shall not always strive with man, saith the Lord of Hosts.
[Sec 1:6a] And again, verily I say unto you, O inhabitants of the earth, I, the Lord, am willing to make these things known unto all flesh, for I am no respecter of persons,
[Sec 1:6b] and will that all men shall know that the day speedily cometh-- the hour is not yet, but is nigh at hand—when peace shall be taken from the earth, and the Devil shall have power over his own dominion;
[Sec 1:6c] and also the Lord shall have power over his saints, and shall reign in their midst, and shall come down in judgment upon Idumea*, or the world. *Idumea: Edom (ancient)
[Sec 1:7] Search these commandments, for they are true and faithful, and the prophecies and promises which are in them shall all be fulfilled.
[Sec 1:8a] What I, the Lord, have spoken I have spoken, and I excuse not myself;
[Sec 1:8b] and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice, or by the voice of my servants, it is the same;

[Sec 1:8c] for behold, and lo, the Lord is God, and the Spirit beareth record, and the record is true, and the truth abideth for ever and ever. Amen.

God reached out to the world when our Church began and gave understanding of what to look out for in the Church.

No one shall escape hearing God’s message. We know this is true, even those who have passed from this life without hearing the fullness of the Everlasting Gospel are taught it on the other side and given opportunity to receive. However we know that there is a time coming when the Gospel shall go out in power for the last time. We are told of the Power of the Priesthood to seal in Earth and in Heaven the unbelieving and rebellious. It is a sobering and humbling thought that we shall receive everyone according to how we have treated our fellowman.

I have often seen in myself and in almost all others the tendency to appear righteous outwardly in the eyes of our fellow man and church congregation, but to be privately far from what we present. Sadly for all of us, although we can keep up appearances, Christ knows the inner workings and motivations of our hearts and minds. This is why every knee show bow and confess His judgment upon us is just. Think about your own experiences with Church folk. It has been mine that the individuals who are quiet and never draw attention to themselves are often the ones who truly more fully follow Christ.

I was once asked to bring Administration for a health complaint to a Sister I never knew existed, I didn’t remember her from Church life and when we arrived at her home there was a sister from church who almost never says a word but always attended, by her side. After we anointed and prayed for this woman she bore testimony that she was constantly visited and encouraged to faith and as a friend by the Sister from Church. This was why she had asked for administration. In my mind I thanked God for this wonderful work that was taking place without church people knowing, out of love. I was humbled and thought this sister is most likely in higher standing before God than almost all, but was unassuming and humble and quiet in her service.

I had another experience recently where a brother told me about a man I had known of but never met, who through the effect of War (I believe) had been in a mental institution. This brother’s family visited this man every week. The older I get the more I see the importance of the functions within the Body of Christ which go unseen by man but are known unto God.

God is asking us to prepare and be ready, because God is very unhappy with what is happening on the earth and is going to separate the wicked even in amongst the Church. People are going to stray from God’s ordinances and break his Everlasting Covenant, walking in their own ways and worshipping a god in their own likeness which is of the world, and shall perish.

God knew that as the world left His ways which are True, Constant, Enduring and Eternal, that ultimately corruption, death and destruction must follow. The Church was Restored and established again to give people a choice and opportunity to be a part of Him and his work, to be saved.

The priesthood called of God would appear to some to be weak and simple, but if they repent when they are chastened, would help to bring forth the Book of Mormon, lay the foundation of His Church, which was the only true and living Church upon the face of the whole Earth. Do you think we maybe forget sometimes what a Treasure God gave to us?

Although God cannot look upon sin in the least degree of allowance, he offers unto all the opportunity to repent and be forgiven. If we won’t, even the light we have shall soon depart from us.

A day is coming when peace shall be taken from the Earth and the Devil have power over his own. God shall be in the mist of His people as their King. What a promise!!

With God’s help we can all read scripture and be led to things of importance for now and for the future, the key however to making them a living part of our lives is to prepare for, see and detect them taking place as history unfolds before us. Being in the right Spirit as we are faced with decisions to make and actions to take. I don’t think any of us would be so proud as to think we have not made mistakes along the way. We are all growing in our understanding, therefore as the scriptures ask of us, never try to share the Gospel using yourself as an example, ultimately you will fail those you are trying to help and cause them to be discontent and leave. But rather do as we are commanded and encourage people to go and ask for themselves. If they are his sheep they will hear his voice and follow their Master and their God who is the Life by which all are measured, and is the only example worthy of following.

If you do not have access to an internet facility and would like to post your article to me, I will try and have it typed and included, but I would need to receive it by the 18 th of the month for inclusion in the next issue. Postal details are as follows: Noel Rowlatt, 6 Wetheral Place, Alexandra Hills, 4161 Queensland, Australia.
