Watch! “Stop, Look, Listen”
“Verily, I say unto you, Blessed are those servants, whom the Lord when he cometh shall find watching; for he shall gird himself, and make them sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them”
(Luke 12:40 IV; 12:37 KJV).”Watch ye therefore! for ye know not when the Master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cock crowing, or in the morning: Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. And what I say unto you I say unto all, watch” (Mark 13:52-53 IV; 13:35-37 KJV).
In these scriptures the Lord is commanding us to watch for his second coming. He promises to all the blessed privilege of sitting down to eat [the marriage supper], being served by the Lord to his bride. A place at the Lord’s table will be reserved for his disciples who are found watching for the time of his coming. This is an appointment none of us want to miss!
Peter warned, “. . . that in the last days there shall come scoffers, saying, where is the promise of his coming? . . .” (2 Peter 3:3-4). Jesus will come as he promised. As Peter added, “The Lord is not slack [negligent] concerning his promise and coming . . .” (2 Peter 3:9).
Jesus described the days before his coming as a time of great tribulation and wickedness and he said, “except those days should be shortened there should none of their flesh be saved. But for the elect’s sake, according to the covenant, those days shall be shortened” (Matthew 24:19-20 IV; 24:22 KJV).
Luke recorded these words of Jesus concerning his elect: “And shall not God avenge his own elect which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man cometh shall he find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:7-8). Surely there will be a remnant which will have a steadfast faith when he comes—but we need to remember that only eight souls were saved in the days of Noah!
Paul was referring to Isaiah 1:9 when he wrote of a remnant being saved. Then he adds, “For he will finish the work and cut it
short in righteousness; because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth . . .” ( Romans 9:27-29). What will be required of those who will be numbered with the “very small remnant” described by Isaiah. (See Isaiah 1:9, 16-19).
The adherents of Islam are threatening God’s elect today. Israel’s Benjamin Natanyahu recently quoted Henry Kissinger calling Islam, a “cause.” Their cause, or design, is to subjugate the world, beginning with Israel and the United States. Nuclear power in itself is not a threat to the world, but nuclear power in the hands of men who are mentally deranged, or who espouse the cause of Islam, is a threat to the entire world. We need to be awakened to our precarious situation. “In the last days perilous times [for body and soul] shall come” (2 Timothy 3:1).
Negotiation and diplomacy have not succeeded in effecting a change in the policies of our adversaries. The United Nations, designed to ensure a safe and sane world, has failed miserably. Where is hope; if there is hope?
We must not lose our faith. Faith begets hope. Hopelessness and despair are tools of Satan. Faith and hope go hand in hand. They uphold one another. Many generations ago, the prophet Ether wrote: “Whoso believeth [has faith] in God, might with surety [certainty] hope for a better world [here and hereafter], yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God” (Ether 5:4)
