A Very Small Remnant 6/16/2017
I believe, without a doubt, we are living at a very historic moment in time. The Lord prophesied that the day would come in which “Except those days should be shortened there should none of their flesh be saved. But for the elect’s sake, those days shall be shortened. Behold these things I have spoken unto you concerning the Jews” (Matthew 24:19-21 IV; 24:22 KJV). Today, the elect—the Jews and the whole house of Israel—is being threatened with extinction as never before, and that threat is real.
Only in our generation has the fulfillment of the prophecy of Jesus that “except those days be shortened there should none of their flesh be saved,” been possible. These are perilous days for both body and soul. Therefore this is not a day for doing business as usual.
God’s desire for his saints is that their last days shall be their best. The best wine was served last at the wedding feast at Cana. The “greater works” that Jesus prophesied are still ahead of us. These things will come. His promises are sure. God will soon open the flood gates of heaven to release his living waters as never before. This will produce the promised greater works, that “the glory of his latter house shall be greater than the former” (Haggai 2:9).
The final words of Jesus in his revelation to John were: “Surely I come quickly” (Revelation 22:20). Nearly 2,000 years have passed and he has not come. Perhaps the word “suddenly” should be used as in Malachi 3:1: “. . . and the Lord whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in; behold he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.”
There are several scriptures related to the Lord’s coming in glory that speak of his sudden appearance and the time being shortened:
“Let my disciples therefore take heed to themselves lest at any time their hearts be overcharged with surfeiting [overindulgence] and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day come upon them unawares. For as a snare [a trap] it shall come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth” (Luke 21:34). “For he will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness; because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth” (Romans 9:28). “I tell you that he will come, and when he does come, he will avenge his saints speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8). “. . . except those days should be shortened, there should none of their flesh be saved” (Matthew 24:19).
“ I will hasten my word to perform it” (Jeremiah 1:12). “The hastening time is here . . .” “The hastening time is upon us . . .” “The hastening time is at hand. . .” (D & C 135:2b; 141:5; 149:9a).
We are definitely living in the hastening time.
