August 2017 Australian Restoration News

Around and About the Centre Place by High Priest Paul J. Gage, Independence, Missouri
G'DAY! to all the wonderful Saints in Australia,
An interesting event is going to happen in the Centre Place on Monday, August 21, 2017. There will be a total eclipse of the sun in the Independence, Missouri area. One of the three best places in the USA to view the eclipse will be Saint Joseph, Missouri which is only about 65 miles or 104.6 kilometres from Independence.
Many people are coming from all over the world to witness this event. A number of motels have been booked up for almost a year. I won't go into all the details about an eclipse and so forth as you can find that out on your computer or phone.
These special events, created by God, are unique and very interesting, but don't we, as humans, usually go overboard, or to excess on such things. People can make a phone call in the length of time the eclipse will last, but billions of dollars will be spent, time "wasted" and so forth in the attempt to be a part of this event.
How will that compare to the time we take, each day, to seek our Heavenly Father? Are we willing to do what He asks of us to know Him better? Read D&C 90 and see what God asks us to do if we want to see the TRUE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. Do we realize that we have the opportunity to "Walk in the Light, in the Light of God," every second of every day, and yet we often find ourselves in darkness of some type. The adversary who can be transformed into an angel of light, as we find in II Corinthians 11:13-15 is always seeking to deceive us and lead us away from Jesus. Read I Peter5:6-8 where Satan is called a roaring lion seeking to devour, while Jesus Christ is the Lion of Judah who came to save us from our sins and I Peter 2:21 says that Jesus has left us an example, that we should follow His steps.
Isn't it amazing that people will spend time, money, resources, etc for a few thrills, some of which might actually be a "once in a life time" event, and yet won't give much thought to their salvation. The belief of many is called, "easy believeism," because they think all they have to do is just say, "I believe." Jesus gives us a different outlook in Matthew 5:2-5, as He gives us the keys to His Kingdom. These verses 2-4 are only found in the Inspired Version of the Holy Scriptures.
Sometimes, even in the Restoration, we look for the easy way out. For the yoke to be easy and the burden light, it must be His Yoke and not our own, just as in Ephesians 6:10-18 we are instructed to take upon us the whole armor of God. Our armor, whatever it might be is simply not sufficient to battle our spiritual enemies and we can't just put on part of the armor. A lady was once told, by the Lord, that she needed to put on His whole armor every day. That is the only way He can be with us always, even unto the end.
It is summer time in the Centre Place and things are literally sizzling. Temperatures have been in the 90's (30's) for a good number of days. Camp and reunion season is winding down, with the last reunions scheduled for the Kirtland, Ohio and Maine areas July 29-August 5.
The Conference of Restoration Elders (CRE) and Pastors of Zion (POZ) held a very successful reunion in Independence, Missouri, June 25-30, at Waldo Avenue Restoration Branch/Centre Place Restoration School. Saints came from several states and Seventy Juan Reyes and his wife, Tina from Saltillo, Mexico. Alas! No one from Australia. Maybe next year. The reunion theme was, "Jesus is Calling-O Hear Him Today." The daily themes were the focus of the worship, classes, sermons, etc. Elder Karl Anderson, from Oak Grove was the Friday night speaker. He informed the Saints, very strongly, that--the Church of Jesus Christ is not broken-- it is we, the people, who are broken and that we must come back to the True Light, which is Jesus Christ, and walk daily in that Light. There will be more information in the next Tidings which should be in the homes by late August. Did you get your last Tidings? I have not heard from very many.
All the missionary groups are functioning and will have missions this fall going to Africa, Canada, Germany and possibly England, India, Nepal and the Philippines. Thought and prayer is being given to missions to Australia in 2018. SEAAM seeks input from Australia as to your desires for ministry.
The POZ is in the midst of their annual Sunday evening summer preaching series at Waldo Avenue Restoration Branch. The series started June 9 and will conclude August 20, 2017. Each Sunday evening a different branch will be in charge of the service and another branch will provide refreshments. The ministry provided thus far has been very good. There are about 14 branches that affiliate with the POZ.
Centre Place Restoration School (CPRS) is gearing up for another school year. It is one of very few Christian schools remaining in the Centre Place area. Brother Dan Schoenemann will again be serving as school administrator.
A goodly number of branches now live stream at least their Sunday morning services. Waldo and Oak Grove, for two, are listed in the back of the Tidings. If you are interested, and have a computer, just type in the name of the branch and it should take you to the website. Also, the Oakwood Branch in Michigan sends out CD's and DVD's for those desiring them. You can find a list of Restoration Branches on the internet, though the list may not be up to date. God be with you and keep you in His arms of love.
Riches from the Scriptures Volume 03 by Elder Neil Kerswell, Brisbane, Australia Chapter 6 “THE GLORY of GOD” Part 2 Let us begin with a brief recap on the last time we met;
No Man can behold all God’s Glory and remain in the Flesh on the Earth.
Do not Take God’s Honor unto ourselves, Follow Christ’s example, Satan thought he was Equal to Christ, and wanted to take agency away from Man
God often uses a cloud to withhold his glory from those that are not sanctified. Inviting those within whom he chooses.
One of the purposes of Zion is to prepare a people to abide the Glory of God.
Our Agency lived out determines how close to God we can become through Christ, therefore bringing about the need for degrees of Glory after the Resurrection.

In part 1 of this Series, in 1st Corinthians we saw that there are 3 main distinctions of Glory – Celestial, Terrestrial and Telestial which are different from the other. We will now examine the best example I know of, describing the Glories, D&C 76. On their return from the Amherst (Ohio) conference to Hiram, Ohio (D. and C. 75), Joseph Smith resumed translation of the Scriptures with Sidney Rigdon as his scribe. On February 16, 1832, while they were thus engaged, they came to John 5:29. While meditating on the rendition they were given by the spirit of revelation, they shared a vision which they reported in the words of this section. [Sec 76:1a] Hear, O ye heavens, and give ear, O earth, and rejoice ye inhabitants thereof, for the Lord is God, and beside him there is no Savior; [Sec 76:1b] great is his wisdom; marvellous are his ways; and the extent of his doings, none can find out; [Sec 76:1c] his purposes fail not, neither are there any who can stay his hand; from eternity to eternity he is the same, and his years never fail. [Sec 76:2a] For thus saith the Lord, I, the Lord, am merciful and gracious unto those who fear me, and delight to honor those who serve me in righteousness and in truth unto the end; [Sec 76:2b] great shall be their reward, and eternal shall be their glory; and to them will I reveal all mysteries; yea, all the hidden mysteries of my kingdom from days of old; and for ages to come will I make known unto them the good pleasure of my will concerning all things pertaining to my kingdom; [Sec 76:2c] yea, even the wonders of eternity shall they know, and things to come will I show them, even the things of many generations; their wisdom shall be great, and their understanding reach to heaven; and before them the wisdom of the wise shall perish, and the understanding of the prudent shall come to naught; [Sec 76:2d] for by my Spirit will I enlighten them, and by my power will I make known unto them the secrets of my will; yea, even those things which eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor yet entered into the heart of man. God is speaking here unto those who fear (respect) Him and serve Him in Righteousness and Truth unto the end. This begins to give us a hint of what God is about and how deep He wants the relationship to be with us, His creation. Besides God there is no Saviour and never could be. As in so many other passages the importance of being a person who serves to the end is made mention. May we be amongst those who can endure to the end. [Sec 76:3a] We, Joseph Smith, Jr., and Sidney Rigdon, being in the Spirit on the sixteenth of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty-two, by the power of the Spirit our eyes were opened, and our understandings were enlightened, so as to see and understand the things of God; [Sec 76:3b] even those things which were from the beginning before the world was, which were ordained of the Father, through his only begotten Son, who was in the bosom of the Father, even from the beginning, of whom we bear record, and the record which we bear is the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ, who is the Son, whom we saw and with whom we conversed in the heavenly vision; Joseph and Sidney had their eyes opened and their understanding enlightened by the Power of God’s Spirit. This happened while in the act of translating Scripture. All the ingredients were in place for this experience to happen. They were in a repentant and prepared condition of heart and mind, this was absolutely necessary to do the work they were engaged in, God’s Spirit was working in the gifts of Revelation and Prophecy, therefore as they had questions in their hearts, God was able to move easily within their lives and point them in the direction and understanding they required to satisfy their longing to understand what they had been reading. God also knew that you and I and all who are willing to receive would need this understanding to more fully investigate Eternal life and seek after it with all our hearts. Therefore God moved where it was possible to move, to bring forth this great light and truth. Never think for one second that God didn’t see you the reader as he performed this miracle in their sight. All things are before God

and present, he is in all things and through all things and loves all His Creation and yes you can be assured He was mindful of you personally just as much as Joseph and Sidney. Therefore as this scripture opens your heart and mind and thrills your soul with Gladness and Hope. Repent in your heart and mind and allow God place to more fully prepare you to receive. [Sec 76:3c] for while we were doing the work of translation, which the Lord had appointed unto us, we came to the twenty-ninth verse of the fifth chapter of John, which was given unto us as follows: [Sec 76:3d] speaking of the resurrection of the dead, concerning those who shall hear the voice of the Son of man, and shall come forth; they who have done good in the resurrection of the just, and they who have done evil in the resurrection of the unjust. [Sec 76:3e] Now this caused us to marvel, for it was given unto us of the Spirit, and while we meditated upon these things, the Lord touched the eyes of our understandings, and they were opened, and the glory of the Lord shone round about; [Sec 76:3f] and we beheld the glory of the Son, on the right hand of the Father, and received of his fullness; and saw the holy angels, and they who are sanctified before his throne, worshiping God and the Lamb, who worship him for ever and ever. [Sec 76:3g] And, now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him, that he lives; for we saw him, even on the right hand of God; [Sec 76:3h] and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father; that by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created; and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God. It is no surprise that as the Glory of God shone round about them, that the first great revelation was that of our Lord and Saviour on the right hand of God the Father. Jesus is our advocate with the Father and pleads our case before Him at all times. We are told the Holy Ghost groans as we pray because our hearts are so far from being right with God, therefore God by His Grace, through the Holy Ghost and the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ, translates our prayers and requests into something more worthy. This is because the Lamb, (Jesus Christ) is the only one truly worthy and we are saved through His righteousness. Jesus stands and mediates for us his brethren (Hebrews 2:17-18). Therefore it is likely, Joseph and Sidney were having their eyes opened to the reason why men in their weakness, as themselves, were being granted this great testimony. [Sec 76:3i] And this we saw also, and bear record, that an angel of God, who was in authority in the presence of God, who rebelled against the only begotten Son; whom the Father loved, and who was in the bosom of the Father; [Sec 76:3j] and was thrust down from the presence of God and the Son, and was called Perdition; for the heavens wept over him; he was Lucifer, a son of the morning. And we beheld, and lo, he is fallen! is fallen! even a son of the morning. [Sec 76:3k] And while we were yet in the Spirit, the Lord commanded us that we should write the vision; for we beheld Satan, that old serpent, even the Devil, who rebelled against God, and sought to take the kingdom of our God and his Christ; [Sec 76:3l] wherefore he maketh war with the saints of God, and encompasses them round about. [Sec 76:3m] And we saw a vision of the sufferings of those with whom he made war and overcame, for thus came the voice of the Lord unto us. [Sec 76:4a] Thus saith the Lord, concerning all those who know my power, and have been made partakers thereof, and suffered themselves, through the power of the Devil, to be overcome, and to deny the truth, and defy my power; [Sec 76:4b] they are they who are the sons of perdition, of whom I say it had been better for them never to have been born; [Sec 76:4c] for they are vessels of wrath, doomed to suffer the wrath of God, with the Devil and his angels, in eternity, concerning whom I have said there is no forgiveness in this world nor in the world to come; [Sec 76:4d] having denied the Holy Spirit, after having received it, and having denied the only begotten Son of the Father; having crucified him unto themselves, and put him to an open shame: [Sec 76:4e] these are they who shall go away into the lake of fire and brimstone, with the Devil and his angels, and the only ones on whom the second death shall have any power; yea, verily, the only ones who shall not be redeemed in the due time of the Lord, after the sufferings of his wrath; [Sec 76:4f] for all the rest shall be brought forth by the resurrection of the dead, through the triumph and the glory of the Lamb, who was slain, who was in the bosom of the Father before the worlds were made. [Sec 76:4g] And this is the gospel, the glad tidings which the voice out of the heavens bore record unto us, that he came into the world, even Jesus to be crucified for the world, and to bear the sins of the world, and to sanctify the world, and to cleanse it from all unrighteousness; [Sec 76:4h] that through him all might be saved, whom the Father had put into his power, and made by him; who glorifies the Father, and saves all the works of his hands, except those sons of perdition, who deny the Son after the Father has revealed him; [Sec 76:4i] wherefore he saves all except them; they shall go away into everlasting punishment, which is endless punishment, which is eternal punishment, to reign with the Devil and his angels in eternity, where their worm dieth not and the fire is not quenched, which is their torment, and the end thereof, neither the place thereof, nor their torment, no man knows; [Sec 76:4j] neither was it revealed, neither is, neither will be revealed unto man, except to them who are made partakers thereof: [Sec 76:4k] nevertheless, I, the Lord, show it by vision unto many; but straightway shut it up again; wherefore the end, the width, the height, the depth, and the misery thereof, they understand not, neither any man except them who are ordained unto this condemnation. [Sec 76:4l] And we heard the voice saying, Write the vision, for lo, this is the end of the vision of the sufferings of the ungodly! We see here the origin of the devil and those who follow him. These do not inherit a Kingdom of Glory. They have known truth and tasted of God’s goodness and Holy Spirit and then deny Him, they also deny the only begotten Son of the Father, which is like crucifying Christ and putting him to an open shame. It is clear from this reading that God has only given us a quick glimpse of the suffering of these people. Because the only ones who will truly understand it, are those who will go through it because of really bad choices they have made in this life. [Sec 76:5a] And again, we bear record for we saw and heard, and this is the testimony of the gospel of Christ, concerning them who come forth in the resurrection of the just. [Sec 76:5b] They are they who received the testimony of Jesus, and believed on his name, and were baptized after the manner of his burial, being buried in the water in his name, and this according to the commandment which he has given, that by keeping the commandments, they might be washed and cleansed from all their sins,
[Sec 76:5c] and receive the Holy Spirit by the laying on of the hands of him who is ordained and sealed unto this power; [Sec 76:5d] and who overcome by faith, and are sealed by that Holy Spirit of promise, which the Father sheds forth upon all those who are just and true; [Sec 76:5e] they are they who are the church of the Firstborn; [Sec 76:5f] they are they into whose hands the Father has given all things: [Sec 76:5g] they are they who are priests and kings, who have received of his fullness, and of his glory, and are priests of the Most High after the order of Melchisedec, which was after the order of Enoch, which was after the order of the only begotten Son: [Sec 76:5h] wherefore, as it is written, they are gods, even the sons of God; wherefore all things are theirs, whether life or death, or things present, or things to come, all are theirs, and they are Christ's, and Christ is God's; and they shall overcome all things; [Sec 76:5i] wherefore let no man glory in man, but rather let him glory in God, who shall subdue all enemies under his feet; [Sec 76:5j] these shall dwell in the presence of God and his Christ for ever and ever: [Sec 76:5k] these are they whom he shall bring with him, when he shall come in the clouds of heaven, to reign on the earth over his people; [Sec 76:5l] these are they who shall have part in the first resurrection; [Sec 76:5m] these are they who shall come forth in the resurrection of the just; [Sec 76:5n] these are they who are come unto Mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly place, the holiest of all; [Sec 76:5o] these are they who have come to an innumerable company of angels; to the general assembly and church of Enoch, and of the Firstborn; [Sec 76:5p] these are they whose names are written in heaven, where God and Christ are the judge of all; [Sec 76:5q] these are they who are just men made perfect through Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, who wrought out this perfect atonement through the shedding of his own blood; [Sec 76:5r] these are they whose bodies are celestial, whose glory is that of the sun, even the glory of God the highest of all; whose glory the sun of the firmament is written of as being typical. The Celestial Kingdom is the greatest of all, to be able to dwell in the Fullness of the presence of God and His Christ, to receive of the fullness of what God offers to them that do all He has asked, following all the steps of the Gospel. Read through it again for yourself. Is this the desire of your heart? If you didn’t know much about it, I encourage you to obedience. If you feel it’s beyond what you could ever do, this is a good thing at first, to not think more highly of yourself than you aught. We know what happened to Satan. If you are truly humble, it puts you in a good place to work from. Always remembering it is only possible through Christ that you can actually stand in the Fullness of God the Father; put your trust in Him and seek with all your heart to keep His commandments. When you fail, repent and seek forgiveness, be baptised and come before the table of the Lord often. Become sanctified and holy through Christ our Lord. [Sec 76:6a] And again, we saw the terrestrial world, and, behold, and lo; [Sec 76:6b] these are they who are of the terrestrial, whose glory differs from that of the church of the Firstborn, who have received the fullness of the Father, even as that of the moon differs from the sun of the firmament. [Sec 76:6c] Behold, these are they who died without law; and also they who are the spirits of men kept in prison, whom the Son visited, and preached the gospel unto them, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, who received not the testimony of Jesus in the flesh, but afterwards received it; [Sec 76:6d] these are they who are honorable men of the earth, who were blinded by the craftiness of men: [Sec 76:6e] these are they who receive of his glory, but not of his fullness; [Sec 76:6f] these are they who receive of the presence of the Son, but not of the fullness of the Father; wherefore they are bodies terrestrial, and not bodies celestial, and differ in glory as the moon differs from the sun; [Sec 76:6g] these are they who are not valiant in the testimony of Jesus; wherefore they obtained not the crown over the kingdom of our God. [Sec 76:6h] And now this is the end of the vision which we saw of the terrestrial, that the Lord commanded us to write while we were yet in the Spirit. The Terrestrial Kingdom is not as great in Glory, like unto the difference between the Sun (Celestial Kingdom) and Moon (Terrestrial Kingdom). Those who inherit Terrestrial have not been willing to discipline their lives to the degree of the Celestial, therefore they cannot abide the presence of God the Father in His fullness. However the Mercy of Christ claims them and they can dwell in the presence of Jesus Christ. [Sec 76:7a] And again, we saw the glory of the telestial, which glory is that of the lesser, even as the glory of the stars differs from that of the glory of the moon in the firmament; [Sec 76:7b] these are they who received not the gospel of Christ, neither the testimony of Jesus; [Sec 76:7c] these are they who deny not the Holy Spirit; [Sec 76:7d] these are they who are thrust down to hell; [Sec 76:7e] these are they who shall not be redeemed from the Devil, until the last resurrection, until the Lord, even Christ the Lamb, shall have finished his work; [Sec 76:7f] these are they who receive not of his fullness in the eternal world, but of the Holy Spirit through the ministration of the terrestrial; and the terrestrial through the ministration of the celestial: and also the telestial receive it of the administering of angels, who are appointed to minister for them, or who are appointed to be ministering spirits for them, for they shall be heirs of salvation. [Sec 76:7g] And thus we saw in the heavenly vision, the glory of the telestial which surpasses all understanding; and no man knows it except him to whom God has revealed it. [Sec 76:7h] And thus we saw the glory of the terrestrial, which excels in all things the glory of the telestial, even in glory, and in power, and in might, and in dominion. [Sec 76:7i] And thus we saw the glory of the celestial, which excels in all things; where God, even the Father, reigns upon his throne for ever and ever, before whose throne all things bow in humble reverence and give him glory for ever and ever. [Sec 76:7j] They who dwell in his presence are the church of the First- born; and they see as they are seen, and know as they are known, having received of his fullness and of his grace; and he makes them equal in power, and in might, and in dominion. [Sec 76:7k] And the glory of the celestial is one, even as the glory of the sun is one. And the glory of the terrestrial is one, even as the glory of the moon is one. [Sec 76:7l] And the glory of the telestial is one, even as the glory of the stars is one, for as one star differs from another star in glory, even so differs one from another in glory in the telestial world; for these are they who are of Paul, and of Apollos, and of Cephas; [Sec 76:7m] these are they who say they are some of one and some of another, some of Christ, and some of John, and some of Moses, and some of Elias; and some of Esais, and some of Isaiah, and some of Enoch, but received not the gospel, neither the testimony of Jesus, neither the prophets; neither the everlasting covenant; [Sec 76:7n] last of all, these all are they who will not be gathered with the saints, to be caught up unto the church of the Firstborn, and received into the cloud; [Sec 76:7o] these are they who are liars, and sorcerers, and adulterers, and whoremongers, and whosoever loves and makes a lie; [Sec 76:7p] these are they who suffer the wrath of God on the earth; [Sec 76:7q] these are they who suffer the vengeance of eternal fire; [Sec 76:7r] these are they who are cast down to hell and suffer the wrath of Almighty God until the fullness of times, when Christ shall have subdued all enemies under his feet, and shall have perfected his work, when he shall deliver up the kingdom and present it unto the Father spotless, saying: [Sec 76:7s] I have overcome and have trodden the wine press alone, even the wine press of the fierceness of the wrath of Almighty God; then shall he be crowned with the crown of his glory, to sit on the throne of his power to reign for ever and ever. [Sec 76:7t] But, behold, and lo, we saw the glory and the inhabitants of the telestial world, that they were as innumerable as the stars in the firmament of heaven, or as the sand upon the seashore, and heard the voice of the Lord saying: [Sec 76:7u] These all shall bow the knee, and every tongue shall confess to him who sits upon the throne for ever and ever; [Sec 76:7v] for they shall be judged according to their works; and every man shall receive according to his own works, and his own dominion, in the mansions which are prepared, and they shall be servants of the Most High, but where God and Christ dwell they cannot come, worlds without end. The Telestial Kingdom is made up of many Kingdoms which are all less in Glory than the Terrestrial; like looking at the stars in the sky, all differing in brightness and glory. These people do not deny the Holy Ghost and will be able to abide a Glory filled with the degree of the Holy Ghost that they truly are in heart, but where God and Christ are they cannot come. They can receive ministry from the Terrestrial and the Terrestrial can receive ministry from the Celestial. Something to be noted, the Telestial Kingdom surpasses all understanding therefore it is a blessing to be there, sharing in a degree of the Glory of God. However any reasonable thinking person will realise the higher glories are more beautiful and are there for us if we but allow Christ to do a greater work in us than we have before. [Sec 76:7w] This is the end of the vision which we saw, which we were commanded to write while we were yet in the Spirit. [Sec 76:8a] But great and marvelous are the works of the Lord and the mysteries of his kingdom which he showed unto us, which surpasses all understanding in glory, and in might, and in dominion, which he commanded us we should not write, while we were yet in the Spirit, and are not lawful for man to utter, [Sec 76:8b] neither is man capable to make them known, for they are only to be seen and understood by the power of the Holy Spirit, which God bestows on those who love him and purify themselves before him; to whom he grants this privilege of seeing and knowing for themselves; [Sec 76:8c] that through the power and manifestation of the Spirit, while in the flesh, they may be able to bear his presence in the world of glory. And to God and the Lamb be glory, and honor, and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. These last couple of verses thrill my soul, God wants us to experience the greatness of His Spirit in the flesh, to help us be ready to truly abide His Presence in the world of Glory to come. I can’t express finishing this reading better than to quote the end of verse 8c. (To God and the Lamb be Glory, and honour and dominion for ever and ever. Amen). I would like to share a quote from Volume two of Riches from the Scriptures - Those who die without the law we are told are judged in the spirit according to men in the flesh. The previous scripture showed us that some of those who die without law will be part of the Terrestrial Kingdom which are able to dwell in the presence of Jesus Christ the Son but are unable to dwell in the fullness of the Father. We have Joseph Smith Junior’s testimony below of being told by God that those who die without a knowledge of the Gospel, who would have received it if given the opportunity, become heirs of the Celestial Kingdom where the Father and the Son sit upon the throne. This also confirms to me that others of those who die without the law and gospel become heirs of the Telestial Kingdoms which differ as the stars differ in glory. Because to me it is intelligence that in amongst the vast millions that have never heard the name of Christ. There will be people of all persuasions, just as there are amongst the countries of the world now that know of Christ. Some are saints and some are devils. Plus there are all the types of people in between. VISION BY JOSEPH THE SEER On the evening of the 21st of January, 1836, the First Presidency met in the west schoolroom of the Kirtland Temple, at which time they ordained Joseph Smith, Sr., Patriarch of the Church, and also received their patriarchal blessings under his hands. Joseph states concerning this meeting and other matters as follows:
"The heavens were opened upon us, and I beheld the celestial kingdom of God, and the glory thereof, whether in the body or out I cannot tell. I saw the transcendent beauty of the gate through which the heirs of that kingdom will enter, which was like unto circling flames of fire; also the blazing throne of God, whereon was seated the Father and the Son. I saw the beautiful streets of that kingdom, which had the appearance of being paved with gold. I saw Fathers Adam and Abraham, and my father and mother, my brother Alvin, that has long since slept, and marvelled how it was that he had obtained an inheritance in the kingdom, seeing that he had departed this life before the Lord had set his hand to gather Israel the second time, and had not been baptized for the remission of sins. "Thus came the voice of the Lord unto me, saying: "'All who have died without a knowledge of this gospel, who would have received it if they had been permitted to tarry, shall be heirs of the celestial kingdom of God; also, all that shall die henceforth without a knowledge of it, who would have received it with all their hearts, shall be heirs of that kingdom, for I, the Lord, will judge all men according to their works, according to the desire of their hearts.' "And I also beheld that all children who die before they arrive at the years of accountability, are saved in the celestial kingdom of heaven. "Many of my brethren who received the ordinance with me saw glorious visions also. Angels ministered unto them as well as myself, and the power of the Highest rested upon us, the house was filled with the glory of God, and we shouted, Hosanna to God and the Lamb." —Church History, vol. 2, p.16.
I thank God for the understanding, light and truth that is available to us in the Restoration. We truly have been given the Riches of Heaven if we will receive it.

Story of Rees Howells

From: Francis Harper

Story of Rees Howells

Dear Ones,

“Rees Howells was born on October 10, 1879, the sixth of a family of eleven. The little white-washed cottage still stands on the Llandilo Road, in the mining village of Brynamman, South Wales, where Thomas and Margaret Howells brought up three girls and eight boys. It is a wonder that little home could contain them.

“But they were a happy family, for godliness and love were pre-eminent in the home. His mother’s love was one of the deepest impressions on Rees’ young life, especially as he watched her ceaselessly nursing one of the three little members of their circle who were later taken from them.

“Outstanding from Rees’ earliest days was his consciousness of God. It seemed as if an invisible Presence overshadowed him from birth, the One who, as with Paul, separated him from his mother’s womb and called him by His grace. In this respect Rees’ grandparents were the most powerful influence on his early years. Their home was another little white-washed cottage, called Pentwyn, up on Black Mountain, and to cross their threshold, Rees said in later years, was to pass from earth to heaven. They had been converted in the 1859 Revival, and Rees always believed that their blessing came down to him. Something drew him to that little home: ‘God was its atmosphere,’ he would say.

“After the death of his grandparents, Rees continued to walk to Black Mountain to visit his invalid Uncle Dick, who was still living at Pentwyn, the grandparent’s old home. On New Years’ Day, before going to visit him, Rees ran upstairs to his room to pray.

“That morning, quite unexpectedly, the Holy Spirit spoke to him: ‘It is the Father’s will to restore your uncle.’ It seemed ‘too good to be true, and too great to believe’—that after all these thirty years his uncle should walk again as other men! When he arrived at Pentwyn his uncle, who was always eagerly awaiting his weekly visit, asked him the usual question: ‘Anything new from the Lord?’ ‘Yes,’ answered Mr. Howells, ‘and it is about you.’ ‘About me?’ was the surprised reply. ‘Have I done anything wrong?’ ‘No, but the Lord has told me it is His will to heal you.’

“We can only imagine what the news must have sounded like in the uncle’s ears. All he could say was that he must go out and see the Lord about it. After a quarter of an hour in the little garden in the back, he returned with his face radiant. ‘Yes,’ he said, ‘I am to be healed in four and a half months, that will be on May 15; Whitsunday. He is healing me in memory of Pentecost. God has told me that I am to be healed at 5 o’clock in the morning and I am to walk to chapel and back [a distance of three miles] for the first time in thirty years.’ Two weeks after it was made known, his uncle took a turn for the worse and was in bed for a month. People said that instead of being restored, he would be in the grave when the day came!

“On the night before Whitsunday, his uncle was as bad as ever. Every night between one and two a.m. he had to get up, being unable to remain lying down, and he had to do it that morning. It was the last attack of the enemy, who whispered, ‘It is all up. You are just the same now as any other night, and you have only got three hours.’ One minute is quite enough for the Lord. Uncle Dick went back to bed, and deep sleep came over him.

“The next thing the uncle heard was the clock striking five, and he found himself perfectly restored. He called the family up, and there was such a solemn awe in the house that they were afraid to move, realizing that God Himself had done that great act at that very hour. He walked to and from church that day for the first time in thirty years, just as he had been told!

“After his healing, his uncle Dick was appointed a kind of honorary home missionary in the district, and during the next five years visited every house within a radius of three miles over and over again. He walked eighteen miles with his nephew one day, and never had a day’s illness after his healing until the Lord called him home, after telling him his work on earth was done” (Norman Grubb, Rees Howells, Intercessor, pp121-126). In 1991, I visited the Bible College of Wales at Swansea, founded by Rees Howells.

Love to all,
Francis Harper

Anything New From the Lord?

From: Francis Harper

Anything New From the Lord?

A common greeting often heard when people meet is, “What’s new?” I believe a more appropriate greeting for the Lord’s people would be, “What’s new from the Lord? We should be ever alert and listening to hear his “slightest whisper” (Hymns of the Restoration, #322)

On many occasions the Lord Jesus said, “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear” (Matthew11:15; Mark 4:9; Luke 8:9; Revelation 2:7). Only a few have ears to hear the words of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. “And he said, unto you [his elect] it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them [others] it is not given. For whosoever receiveth, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance; But whosoever continueth not to receive, from him shall be taken away that he hath” (Matthew 13:9-11). The Lord Jesus purposefully spoke in parables, which requires the presence of the Holy Spirit to enable us to properly interpret them.

Sadly we live in a day similar to the days of the prophet Eli, described in 1 Samuel 3:1: “And the word of the Lord was precious [almost non-existent] in those days; there was no open vision.”

The words, “Hear Him” need to be heeded every day of our lives. “For the heart of this people is waxed [has grown] gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed . . .” (Acts 28:7). The voice of the Lord is drowned by the noise of the world. We need to be still and hear him. This is an absolute necessity if we want to survive spiritually, as individuals, and as his church.

The Lord wants to reveal himself to us, but he will not shout to get our attention. We must knock, seek, ask and wait for his direction and counsel. He speaks to those who sincerely want to hear him.

Jacob wrestled all night to receive a blessing. “And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me” (Genesis 32:26). The persistence of Jacob was rewarded. “And he said, thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel; for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed . . . And he blessed him there” (Genesis 32:28-29).

The gates of hell shall not prevail against the church as long as the members are daily and persistently seeking the Lord for guidance. See Matthew 16:19.

The Lord is pleased when we diligently seek him. “He is a rewarder of them who diligently seek him” (Hebrews 11:6). “It is the glory of God to conceal a thing; but the honor of kings is to search out a matter” (Proverbs 25:2). He is pleased when we are willing to dig for the golden nuggets that are hidden in his word.

The Lord is very creative in the multitude of ways he has conveyed his will to men. The divine will is most often revealed to us as we read the Scriptures. “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are spiritually discerned” (1 Corinthians 2:14).

The Israelites had to gather fresh manna every day, except on the Sabbath. Likewise, we cannot survive on yesterday’s manna. We need a fresh, new word from the Lord to help us meet and overcome the ever-changing challenges of each succeeding day.

What’s new from the Lord?

Steve Davis Fundraising event - we need volunteers

We Need Volunteers!

Steve Davis, of the Kingsville Restoration Branch, needs a lung transplant. His family needs our help and support to make it possible. Steve, and his wife, Kim, will have to live in St. Louis for 4 months during the transplant process. That means they will have to pay for the expense of maintaining 2 active homes, as well as pay travel and medical expenses.

In an effort to help offset this massive expense, we are hosting a Concert/Silent Auction at Waldo Restoration branch at 7 pm on Saturday, August 19th. A concession stand will also be open. We need volunteers to assist in setting up the auction and cleaning up after the event is over. We're also looking for donations for the auction.

Do you have a youth group, Scout Troop or class that will volunteer as a service project? Would you be willing to assist personally in some way?

Please contact Angel or April Erwin at 816-560-0633 or 816-833-7976 to volunteer or if you have an item to donate. You can also email at:
or private message April on Facebook.

Hundred Year Old - Old Town Canoe

------ Forwarded message ------
From: Archie Gatrost

Hundred Year Old - Old Town Canoe

To Interested Party.

In 1966 my dad brought home this old fur traders canoe that used for trapping in Canada. Probably from the 1920's. It is wide bottomed and stable. It was in need of repair then. For two summers I replaced any floor planks that were in need of repair. Then I gave it two layers of fiberglass coating and set an aluminum keel and side rails. Needless to say that made the canoe heavy and now 50 years later it is difficult for me to set it on our lake. Last week we purchased a lighter canoe that you can see sitting up on the rack. I had it out early this summer, it is completely water tight, but it is time for someone that has time and ability to work with fixing it back up. Not good on rapids with rocks, I tried and had to patch it. 😊 The price is good, free, I just do not want to see it sit down there and deteriorate, that would be sad for me. I have to first see if there is any interest and then decide what would be a good home. So if interested please email me at "" and let me know what your plans would be. Even if I pick someone, they may come out and decide this project is not for them. Maybe I am dreaming that someone would like to fix up an old canoe, the wood is solid, but not the front piece I added. Just not the right type of plywood. Thank you for any interest.

May God be With You This Day.
Have a Wonderful Day!?? :)

Biblical Archaeologist Ron Wyatt

From: Francis Harper

Biblical Archaeologist Ron Wyatt

Dear Ones,

I was privileged to travel with the Biblical Archaeologist, Ron Wyatt, to eastern Turkey, Israel and Egypt in June 1991. In addition to his discoveries related to Noah’s Ark, the Garden Tomb, the Ark of the Covenant, Sodom and Gomorrah and the Red Sea Crossing, I wanted to ask him if he had seen an angel, as he had claimed.
I knew if I endorsed the work of Wyatt, and later his claims were proven to be false, my own credibility would be questioned. We had been together for nearly two weeks, and I had not had an opportunity to ask him if he had actually seen an angel. Time was running out. We were in Cairo and were beginning the first leg of our long journey home, by heading back to Tel Aviv. From Tel Aviv we would be flying home the next day.
I knelt by my bedside in the morning of our final day together. It was now or never! I asked the Lord to arrange a private appointment for me with Ron Wyatt. My prayer was answered by the Lord arranging a meeting with Wyatt, in the privacy of his hotel room, on the eve of our departure. I could never doubt or deny the Lord’s involvement.
As we were eating our final meal together with the Wyatts, a person stopped by our table to tell us of a shop nearby where satellite photo maps of Israel were being sold. I expressed an interest in buying a map. After the meal, I was invited by Ron and his wife, Mary Nell, to accompany them to the shop to purchase a map. Surely, this was the golden opportunity for which I had prayed! Surprising myself, I responded to their invitation by saying, “Thank you, but I do not want to interfere with your chance to be alone with your wife, for an hour or so of shopping.” I asked them to buy a map for me.
I must have walked several miles doing window shopping along the streets of Tel Aviv that evening before I decided to return to the hotel. When I turned around to retrace my steps, I realized I was lost! I was completely disoriented, which is very unusual for me. Even the name of the hotel had escaped me! Finally, I recalled that I had a key to my hotel room with the name of the hotel imprinted upon it.
I hired a taxi, and as I was arriving at the hotel, I noticed the Wyatts were also arriving. It was the precise timing of the Lord, but by the time I reached the lobby, the Wyatts had disappeared. My prayer had not been answered! As I walked around a corner toward the elevator to my room, I was surprised to see the Wyatts waiting there. I asked if they had purchased a map for me. Mary Nell sadly reported, “Francis, they had only one map left and we purchased it, but we have an older satellite map of Israel in our room. We will sell it to you at a good price. Would you like to come to our room to see it?” My prayer had been heard and answered after all.
Needless to say, I accepted their invitation and purchased the map. I was grateful the shop had only one map to sell! The precise timing of our return to the hotel was another evidence that our meeting was divinely arranged. I rejoiced that my prayer had been answered, even in the final hour, in the Lord’s own creative way! Ron shared his testimony of seeing an angel, and I knew he was telling the truth. I also knew he was a servant of God, and all his claims supporting the credibility of the Bible were also true. The Lord would never have arranged this meeting for me if Wyatt was an imposter and a liar!

My love to one and all,
Francis Harper

The Precise Timing of the Lord

From: Francis Harper

The Precise Timing of the Lord

The Lord’s timing is perfect and precise. Although it is not for us “to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power” (Acts 1:7), we can observe how in times past his timing has always been perfect and precise. It has been said, “he is never in a hurry, nor is he ever late.”

I believe all are acquainted with the miraculous Red Sea crossing, as it is recorded in Exodus 14. The Israelites were encamped by the Gulf of Aqaba of the Red Sea. “The Egyptians pursued after them . . . and overtook them encamping by the sea (Exodus 14:9). The Israelites were trapped with no apparent route of escape. With the mountains on either side, the sea before them and the Egyptians behind, it appeared they were facing certain death.

At the last minute, in precise timing, “the Lord said unto Moses . . . speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward; lift up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it; and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea” (Exodus 14:15-16).

The birth of Jesus had been prophesied: “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting” (Micah 5:2).

In precise timing the Lord caused the mighty Caesar Augustus to issue the decree that all his empire should be taxed. And Joseph with Mary, his espoused wife, she being “great with child,” had to travel the ninety miles from Nazareth to Bethlehem to be taxed. This trip would have taken at least a week by donkey. Would the child be born on the way? Once again, the Lord’s timing was perfect. He ordered the footsteps of the lowly donkey to arrive in Bethlehem, an obscure village of the Roman Empire, in precise timing to fulfill the ancient prophecy of Micah.

Once again, we witness the perfect timing of the Lord when the parents of Jesus took him to the temple in Jerusalem, “to do for him after the custom of the law” (Luke 2:27). Simeon and Anna came by the spirit, “at that instant” (Luke 2:38) to bless the child, and to give thanks unto the Lord. This meeting at the temple was more than a coincidence. God had arranged it by his Spirit; bringing Simeon and Anna into the temple at just the right moment to meet the Christ-child.

In a dream, Lehi had been commanded to return to Jerusalem to the house of Laban to obtain the record of the Jews and a genealogy of his forefathers. Lehi assigned this difficult task to his sons. Nephi, the youngest son, was given this testimony: “I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them” (1 Nephi 1:65).

With this faith, Nephi was selected to go into the city to obtain the records. He wrote: “I was led by the Spirit, not knowing beforehand the things which I should do” (1 Nephi 1:106). The Lord had prepared in perfect timing for Laban to be in a drunken stupor, unable to defend himself, allowing Nephi to slay him and clothe himself in Laban’s garments. Next, Nephi met in precise timing the servant of Laban, who had the keys to the treasury. By impersonating Laban, the servant was persuaded to open the treasury and the records were obtained. This mission was accomplished by the Lord’s arrangements in precise timing.
