The Monthly
TIDINGS OF ZION

by the Publication Council of the Conference of Restoration Elders (CRE)
October 20, 2017

Greetings to the Saints around the world,

The monthly Tidings of Zion is new effort by the CRE to reach out to the Saints. It does not replace the quarterly Tidings of Zion magazine. The monthly TOZ will only be online. Feel free to copy and distribute to anyone you know who may not have internet availability. We encourage each pastor to copy and make available to your branches and groups. Your assistance will be very much appreciated.

Saints and branch leaders may send in items for the monthly Tidings as is also done for the quarterly magazine. We would like to receive testimonies, reunion, camp, retreat experiences, branch events and activities, or articles you may want to write and so forth.

Domestic Outreach: The Domestic Outreach Program, ministry to the USA and Canada, has functioned under the CRE for many years. At the 2017 CRE, a resolution was passed with the intent to "rev up" the Domestic Outreach efforts. The USA and Canada have been divided into ten regions and two priesthood assigned to each area. The intent is to touch base with Saints, leaders, and priesthood in the ten regions. The purpose is to visit with leadership in each area for input as to how the CRE can be more helpful in fulfilling its purpose, as found on the inside front cover of each issue of Tidings of Zion magazine.. Leaders in each area will be contacted by those planning to visit in order to make sure all arrangements are satisfactory to all. Some teams have already been out in the field and sharing with the Saints along the way.

The CRE tries to keep the Restoration Branch Directory up to date and so would appreciate notice anytime there is a change in leadership of the branch/group. It is also very helpful to have a copy of a directory of your branch. The Saints, quite often call the CRE office requesting information to help them in their local situations. This information can be sent to: CRE PO Box 4085, Independence, MO. 64051. ATTN: Paul Gage.

Issue # 121, October/November/December, 2017, of the quarterly Tidings of Zion is currently at the printers. It is expected to be in the homes by mid to late November. This issue will include a number of testimonies from the CRE Priesthood Retreat in Kirtland, Ohio in September as well as other reports of events around the church and testimonies from several Saints.

The Golden Eagles of Center Place Restoration School, (CPRS) are off and flying into the new school year. They recently had a chile supper to support the school's Robotics Club. The chile was great and the robotic demonstrations were fantastic. They will also present the fall play, "Singing in the Rain," in November. Brother Dan Schoenemann is the school administrator. Continue to uphold the school, staff faculty, and students in your daily prayers. Enrollment is around 175 so far this year.

Go Ye therefore, and teach ALL Nations! That is our commission from Jesus, in Matthew 28:19. But that only applies to going to another country. right? What about the hymn we sing, "Hark, the Voice of Jesus Calling?" The second verse reads, "If you cannot cross the ocean, and far mission lands explore, You can find the needy nearer; You can help them AT YOUR DOOR." The third verse states, "Let none hear YOU idly saying, 'There is nothing I can do, While the souls of men are dying, and the Master calls FOR YOU."

All the Missionary groups that function under the CRE, as well as other Missionary efforts, are very actively engaged in the mission fields of the areas they sponsor. Missionaries, in the last year or so, or the year before us will have gone to Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, Germany, Honduras, India, Kenya and several other countries in East Africa, Mexico, Nepal, Nigeria, the Philippines/Mindanao. Palau, the Philippines/Luzon, Russia, Taiwan, Tahiti, and maybe even more.

But what about YOUR town, neighborhood, work place, school, and so forth? Go YE therefore!

GIVE THANKS, WTIH A GRATEFUL HEART,
TO THE ONE WE SING, HOW GREAT THOU ART!"
BECAUSE HE HAS GREAT PLANS FOR MAN,
HE DIED AND LIVES! LOVE IS HIS PLAN!
THANKSGIVING YEA, AND CHRISTMAS TOO,
HE IS THE WAY, FOR ME AND YOU!
SO SERVE HIM WELL, AND THEN SOME DAY,
HE WILL HAVE THESE WORDS TO SAY,
WELL DONE GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT!
ENTER THOU INTO THE JOY OF THY LORD!

Restoration Voice for Visually Impaired

We are beginning a new service to make Restoration Voice magazine available in Word format. Now visually impaired Saints and friends can hear the articles read with screen readers such as JAWS, and low-vision users can more easily enlarge articles with Zoomtext, etc.

The articles are straight text--no photos, boxes, or distracting graphics. They are separated into pages with prompts such as "This is page 3 from Restoration Voice."

At present, there is no charge for this service.

If you would like to receive the September-October, 2017, issue of Restoration Voice by e-mail, please reply to PaulVLudy@gmail.com with your name and phone number.

Of course, the hardcopy Restoration Voice magazine is still available. This issue (#235) features beautiful autumn scenes. For it, we suggest a contribution of $20.00 per subscription (6 issues).

We will also send sample copies of Restoration Voice at no cost to you. We have a large quantity of back issues that should be enjoyed by your friends. Just give us their names and complete addresses. We will mail samples of recent issues along with our next regular mailing in December.

Neal's Yard Remedies

From: Sharon Sherbina

Neal's Yard Remedies

Growing up in the church, I was always conscious about what we ate, but I wasn't always as conscious about what I was putting on the outside of the body. Over the past couple of years I started reading not just the labels on all my food, but now on all my hygiene and skin care items. I've been able to find some wonderful things in local health food stores, and have even learned to make a few salves, tinctures and such. Mom and I were shopping around for safe skin care and came across a line called Neal's Yard Remedies. I like it so much that I've decided to represent it in our area, and I wanted to send out a brief post introducing myself, the line and the website. You may contact me directly with any questions, or you can explore the products online at your leisure. Like other companies, you may host a party where a group of friends may sample various things prior to purchasing. If you'd like to read about the company itself, I think you'd be pleasantly surprised at the care with which they source their ingredients, their numerous awards for fair and ethical business practices, and most, the quality, safety and effectiveness of the products. The company itself is based in London, and abroad they are probably most well known for their baby and mother balms. They are internationally renowned for their facial care and gentle aging creams and oils, the Frankincense line. As a cancer survivor, I personally like their non-toxic deodorants. My husband likes their after shave balm.

Francis Harper Message for 10/13/17

Our Number One Enemy

Our number one enemy is the person we see in the mirror every morning. Man’s greatest malady is himself. The natural man that we are from birth must be put to death. We must exchange our selfish willful way, for the divine will and way, or we will die. “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Matthew 16).

It is written, “For the natural man is an enemy to God [and himself], and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, for ever and ever; But if [unless] he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man, and becometh a saint, through the atonement of Christ, the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father” (Mosiah 1:119-120). Baptism by immersion is a perfect illustration of putting the natural man to death, burying him and he being raised again as a new person. Paul described the process in Romans 6:4: “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death; that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”

How do we know when we have passed from death to life? The Apostle John answered this question when he wrote: “We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death” (1 John 3:14). There are other ways we can tell if the natural man has been put to death. When the natural man dies and is buried, the new person no longer lusts, covets, feels anger, seeks revenge or ever feels lonely, neglected or unloved. His pride is gone and is replaced with love.

Death of the natural man is the greatest liberation known on earth. The captives are set free. What a glorious release! Jesus came to liberate the captives and to “open the prison to them that are bound” (Isaiah 61:1).

Before the Lord can dwell in us we must be willing to clean the house! “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you” (1 Corinthians 3:16). The Lord cannot dwell in unclean temples. He “can not look upon sin with the least degree of allowance” (D & C 1:5c).

Jesus came to cleanse us. Peter objected when Jesus offered to wash his feet. Jesus said, “If I wash them not, thou hast no part with me” (John 13:8). We need to submit to the cleansing Jesus provides, making us “clean every whit” (John 13:10).

The Lord will forgive [cleanse] and empower, by the indwelling presence of his Holy Spirit, all those who are willing to make a sincere effort to overcome the deadly traits of the natural man. “For we know it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do” (2 Nephi 11:44).

Young Rembrandts Teaching Opportunity

Sarah Hirtzel, a friend of mine who owns a Young Rembrandts franchise, is looking for teachers and helpers for her children's art classes in the Missouri side of the metro area.

If you are looking for a fun way to spend your time that changes kids' lives, this path may be just for you. It was for me.

The great thing is the lessons are so easy to follow, one doesn't have to be particularly arty to teach them.

The attached flyers show images of student work and what YRs offers for children, and you can navigate through the Young Rembrandts website to get a feel for the program.

I would be happy to share my experience with YR and connect you with Sarah. Lead teachers earn $25 per hour lesson taught, helpers earn $12.50 per lesson.

Francis Harper - Message for 10/6/17

Dear Ones,

In discussion, during a recent priesthood meeting, it was mentioned that many Christians do not understand that the Lord wants to speak to us today, even as he did in the days of Moses and the prophets. They forget the words of Malachi: “For I am the Lord, I change not . . .” (Malachi 3:6). They need to be reminded that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).

Many Christians are not aware of the many ways and means the Lord utilizes to communicate with us. Joseph Smith III, wrote: “The means by which [the Lord] reveals his will to man may be said to be infinite.” Joseph continued, “As in the days of old, these divine messages were given through different ministrations, such as by sending a messenger [angel] direct who conversed with the prophet [and others] . . . or by sending a ministering spirit, which in a dream or vision conveyed unto him the will of God and authorized him to say, thus saith the Lord, or thus saith the Holy Spirit” (Joseph Smith III and the Restoration, pp 596-599).

The Lord is very creative in the multitude of ways he reveals his will to us. He has used precise timings on numerous occasions to communicate his plans and purposes: Simeon and Anna coming to the temple in precise timing to meet the Christ-child, and his parents, was ordered by the Lord. “And Joseph and Mary, marveled at those things which were spoken of the Lord” (Luke 2:33). Precise timings should alert us to the possibility that the Lord may have a purpose in these unusual meetings.

The Lord has arranged many divine appointments for his servants, throughout the pages of history. I will name only a few of these: Peter and Cornelius – Acts 10; Paul and Lydia – Acts 16:9-15; Abraham’s servant and Rebekah – Genesis 24:43-55; Alma and Amulek – Alma 6:23-52.

We need to prepare for divine appointments. Is it likely that God will arrange an appointment for us if we are not prepared? We need to be prepared as Alma and the sons of Mosiah: “For they were men of a sound understanding, and they had searched the Scriptures diligently, that they might know the word of God. But this is not all: they had given themselves to much prayer, and fasting, therefore they had the spirit of prophecy, and the spirit of revelation, and when they taught, they taught with power and authority, even as with the power and authority of God” (Alma 12:4-5). When we are prepared, as Alma and his friends, the Lord will arrange many appointments for us. “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few” (Luke 10:2).

The Lord speaks to us by bringing certain scriptures to our attention. Although I was not acquainted with the scripture recorded in Hebrews 9:22, the Lord brought these words to my mind again and again: “Without shedding of blood is no remission.” This answered my question, “Why did Jesus have to die in such a cruel way?”

Likewise, my question concerning the reality of the Lord’s eternal kingdom on earth was answered by the Lord when he brought another obscure and unknown scripture to my mind, and repeated it to me over and over again: “For here [in this world] have we no continuing city [all is temporal] but we seek one to come” (Hebrews 13:14).

As was said, “The means by which the Lord reveals his will to us are infinite in number.” We must always be alert, listening, watching and praying that we will be “tuned to hear his slightest whisper.”

Remember, God commanded, “Hear ye Him!”

My love to all, Francis

Francis Harper - Hear Him

From: Francis Harper
wbfrmsup@iowatelecom.net

Francis Harper - Hear Him

The words, “Hear Him,” were spoken three times by the Heavenly Father as he introduced his Son to the world. John the Baptist was the first to hear the divine introduction: “. . . and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting upon Jesus. And lo, he heard a voice from heaven saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear ye Him” (Matthew 3:45-46 IV; 3:16-17 KJV).

The second occasion at which Jesus was introduced by the Father occurred on a high mountain [most likely Mount Hermon]. This experience is recorded in Matthew 17: “And after six days, Jesus taketh Peter, James and John, his brother, and bringeth them up into a high mountain, apart, and was transfigured before them; and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias [John the Baptist] talking to him . . . while he yet spake, behold a bright cloud overshadowed them; and behold, a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him” (Matthew 17:1-5).

Moses had been dead nearly 1500 years and John the Baptist only a few months, yet here they were together, talking with Jesus, who was living in the flesh! Peter referred to this never-to-be-forgotten experience in his second epistle: “For we have not followed cunningly devised fables when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eye-witnesses of his majesty. For he received from God honor and glory, when there came to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. We have therefore a more sure knowledge of the word of prophecy, to which ye do well that ye take heed . . .” (2 Peter 1:16-19). Peter was not only an eye-witness but he also heard the voice from heaven.

The third time Jesus was introduced in similar words took place in the United States, in the early part of the nineteenth century. This experience was described by Joseph Smith, Jr., who was only fourteen years old at the time. “I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun . . . when the light rested upon me I saw two Personages [whose brightness and glory defy all description] . . . One of them spake unto me, calling me by name . . . ‘This is my beloved Son, hear him’” (Joseph Smith Tells His Own Story, page 5).

Jesus said, “In the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established” (Matthew 18:16). Those who witnessed the three experiences I have mentioned could never deny [nor did they] that Jesus was the Son of God, and that every person on earth needs to “hear Him!”

Jesus commended Peter for his testimony, in which he said “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:17). Peter had heard the divine introduction spoken by the Father. Jesus was responding to Peter’s testimony when he said, “Blessed art thou Simon Bar-Jona; for flesh and blood [man] hath not revealed this unto thee but my Father who is in heaven . . . and upon this rock [a testimony of Jesus received from heaven] I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18-19).

The gates of hell invariably prevail against the churches that rely upon the teachings of men. The Church of Jesus Christ will never accept the leadership of men nor their teachings. The Church of Jesus Christ will always be led by Him. This requires the members to “hear him” and ever be on guard against men who occasionally usurp the right to lead his church. Jesus spoke of the shepherd, “. . . and the sheep follow him; for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him” (John 10:4-5).

Purebred Black Labrador Looking for Good Home

From: Jennifer Allen
hsrosebud2@msn.com

Purebred Black Labrador Looking for Good Home

We are looking for a new home for our 6 year old black lab Lily. She is up to date on all shots, is spayed, house trained, and a very sweet good natured dog. She would be great as an indoor dog for an older couple, or an indoor family dog, as she loves to sit, wag her tail, and be petted for hours on end. She has never chewed on or torn up any of our furniture when we keep her in our finished basement. She is medium sized lab around 50 lbs. She has been around 8 young children consistently and has never growled, barked at, or snapped at any of the children. She needs to have a fenced back yard. Please contact me for further information.

Thank you~
Jennifer Allen

Latex Paint Needed

Large amounts of paint are needed for painting backdrops for the CPRS musical, “Singing in the Rain”, especially light blue, tan, and brown. If you have any leftover gallons of latex wall or exterior paint, we can use them.

Hospital Bed Needed - Cheryl

Hospital Bed Needed - Cheryl

I’m in need of a hospital bed for my almost 93 year old mother to borrow, I can buy a new mattress for it if it doesn’t come with one, it would be nice if it also came with bed bars. I also need a smaller wheelchair that cannot be wider then 25 inches to borrow too. We live in Independence, MO and we’d come and pick these up in our truck. My mother has been on Hospice for over a year and now has improved according to them and they’ll be cutting her loose this Friday, she is either in bed or in a wheelchair. If anyone can help us out with these needs it would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Contact me through email: luvs2travelgal57@comcast.net
or call my home phone 816-461-5510, this is a landline number and you cannot send texts to it.

Thanks,
Cheryl Clute

Needing a Place to Rent - Pam

I am Needing a place to rent or if you have space and are wanting to trade some work for rent that would be fine as well. I have little income at this time. There could be various scenarios so if you have a place for me to live let me know.
A little about my background. I am soon to be 62 years old have a well behaved cat, managed a bed and breakfast before this and sold my house so needing a place to live now. Respectful, kind, caring, loyal, was in Real Estate for 25 years. Just in a tough spot right now and could use a clean cared for space to live. Please let me know if you have any ideas for me.

Thanks
