Elder Jappie Roberson of Miami, Oklahoma, passed away Monday evening, January 30, two days after his 86th birthday. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 3, at the Church of Jesus Christ, Miami Restoration Branch.

I am excited to offer you the opportunity to partner with Africa Restoration Ministries (ARM), a local non-profit mission that helps improve the lives of our African brothers and sisters in Kenya.

ARM is actively involved in Kenya, helping families to establish churches where they can provide spiritual and physical support for one another. Five years ago, one of our younger missionaries, Aaron Smith, realized that the families needed something more than help establishing churches. Although the mission already funded students for secondary education, Aaron could see that without a higher education, it would be impossible for them to break free from the cycle of poverty:

"Each year we have the opportunity to not just affect 25 students, but in reality, hundreds. Each student who obtains work after their college graduation impacts their entire family and their church family as well. Each graduate is a building block in the foundation for a self-sufficient Kenya church. The ancient proverb that says if you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day – but if you teach a man to fish, you feed him for his life is true. Every man has honor. Sometimes it’s buried deep within due to culture or poverty or abuse, but through education, many men and women can gain that honor back in their lives. The emotional impact this program has cannot be measured."

So he established a fund to help high school graduates pay for college and called it the Kenya Higher Education Fund. Students who benefit from the fund today come from villages where the average family’s annual per-capita income is $800. The average price for public college tuition and board in Kenya is equal to six times that much, making it impossible for most students to ever attend.

Although giving was up in 2011, lows in 2009 and 2010 coupled with a rise in cost for some college programs is cause for concern. To raise money and awareness of the students' need, ARM is hosting a black-tie dinner and silent auction on Saturday, March 31st. Will you join us?

BREASTPLATE OF THE HIGHPRIEST

The word “BREASTPLATE” occurs only twenty-eight times in the Bible; Twenty-two times in the Old Testament, and just four times in the New Testament. In this exhortation, only the “Breastplate” of the Hebrew High-priests will be considered. “Breastplates” can be found twenty times in the Book of Exodus, and one time in the Book of Leviticus.
Exodus Chapters 25, 28, 29, 35, 39; in the Book of Leviticus, chapter 8:8.

Let us consider Leviticus 8:8-10, where it says, “And he (Moses) put the breastplate upon him (Aaron): also he (Moses) put in the breastplate the *Urim And the Thummim.” And he (Moses) put the **mitre upon his head; also upon the mitre, even upon his (Aaron) forefront, did he (Moses) put the golden plate, the holy crown; as the LORD commanded Moses. And Moses took the anointing oil, and anointed the tabernacle and all that was therein, and sanctified them.”

*The word “Urim” in the Hebrew is 'Uwrim (oo-reem'); meaning “light”. When used with the Urim, the will of God was revealed. 'Uwriym (oo-reem'); Noun Masculine, Strong #: 224 Urim = "lights" stones kept in a pouch on the high-priest's breastplate, used in determining God's decision in certain questions and issues. **The word “Thummim” in the Hebrew is Tummiym (toom-meem'); Proper Name Masculine, Strong #: 8550, and means “perfection”. The stones provided for the means of achieving a sacred lot; ***The word “mitre” is the Hebrew word Mitsnepheth (mits-neh'-feththat, and means the turban of the high priest, or the diadem.

In the Hebrew Bible, Leviticus 8:8-10 reads as follows. “He put the breastpiece on him, and put into the breastpiece the Urim and Thummim.” At this point it refers the reader back to Exodus 28:30, which reads as follows: “Inside the breastpiece of decision you shall place the Urim and Thummim, so that they are over Arson’s heart when he comes before the LORD. Thus Aaron shall carry the instrument of decision for the Israelites over his heart before the LORD at all times.” The “stones” that were in the breastplate/breastpiece are also of great importance, as we read in Exodus 28:15 “And thou shalt make the breastplate of judgment with cunning work; after (like, as) the work of the ephod (worn by the high priest - more costly, woven of gold, blue, purple, scarlet, and linen threads provided with shoulder-pieces and a breast piece of like material, ornamented with gems and gold). In verses 17- 21 we read, 17. “And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: THIS SHALL BE THE FIRST ROW. 18. And the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond.19. And in the third row a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst. 20. And the forth row a beryl, and an onyx, and jasper: they shall be set in gold in their enclosings. 21. And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names, like the engravings of a signet; every one with his name shall they be according to the twelve tribes.

The word stones as used in these verses are the Hebrew word 'eben (eh'-ben); Noun Feminine, Strong #: 68, and means precious stones, stones of fire, gem stones.

Exodus 28:17-20 in the Hebrew

“Set in it mounted stones, in four rows of stones. The first row shall be a row of carnelian, chrysolite, and emerald; the second row, a turquoise, a sapphire, and an amethyst, the third row: a jacinth, an agate, and a crystal, and the fourth row: a beryl, a lapis lazuli, and a jasper. They shall be framed with gold in the mountings.”

According to the “Commentary on the Whole Bible” by Jamieson Fausset and Brown, the word Urim and Thummim means signify “lights” and “perfection”, and nothing more is meant than the precious stones of the breastplate already described in chapters 39:8-21 of Exodus, and 8:8 of Leviticus. They received the name because the bearing of them qualified the high-priest to consult the divine oracle on all public or national emergencies, by going into the holy place-standing close before the veil and putting his hand upon the Urim and Thummim, he conveyed a petition from the people and asked counsel of God, who, as the Sovereign of Israel, gave response from the midst of His glory. Little, however, is known about them. But it may be remarked that Egyptian judges wore on the breast of their official robes a representation of Justice, and the high priest in Israel long officiated also as a judge; so that some think the Urim and Thummim had a reference to his judicial functions”.

And in Smith’s Bible Dictionary we read: “URIM AND THUMMIM (Hebrew light and perfection). The twelve precious stones, when in position in the breast-plate of the high-priest, were consulted as an oracle. They were worn when the high priest entered the Holy of Holies (Ex. 28:30). The ceremony of placing the engraved gems in their proper positions in the breastplate was very solemn and imposing, for it typified the presence of the twelve tribes before the Altar of Jehovah.

The Stone Church Ministry of the Arts is sponsoring Express the Light!, which is a day to explore the Book of Mormon through the arts. This will be at Stone Church on February 25, 2012, beginning at 9:00 am. The day will end no later than 3:00 pm (4:00 for clean-up).

We are hoping to have Book of Mormon believers from many denominations participate in Express the Light! I am including background information for the event. We also have a facebook page under "Stone Church Ministry of the Arts" that has information.

"Express the Light!" will be an opportunity to explore the Book of Mormon through the arts. Join us on February 25, at the Community of Christ Stone Church near the Independence Square, as we express our love for the Book of Mormon through various art forms. We will not be exploring theological issues or differences. This event will focus on artistic exploration and expression of the Book of Mormon themes, stories, and history.

See stories of the Book of Mormon revealed in Mayan artwork as archaeologist Neil Steede presents "Stories in Stone."

"And It Came to Pass. . ." (a Book of Mormon history presented through the performing arts)

We are inviting junior high through young adult groups (ages 12 and over, and their leaders) to portray Book of Mormon stories for our time capsule of Book of Mormon history ("And It Came to Pass. . ."). This may be done through performing arts of your choice: dance, song, poetry, skits, etc. These performances will be at scheduled times during the day. Please notify us as soon as possible if you are interested, and we will notify you of your assigned story and length of performance time (generally, max of 10 minutes). Please inform us if you have a story preference. We will try to accommodate requests for specific stories, if we can.

We are also developing a group of actors/singers/musicians for some of the portrayals throughout the day, as well as a short drama. Please contact Celeste or Joanie if you would like to be part of this group.

Stelas and Scribes (Visual and Literary Arts Display)

Do you have an original poem about the Book of Mormon? a picture of King Benjamin on his tower? a Book of Mormon verse in calligraphy? If you would like to share your gift for others to enjoy, please submit it for our "Stelas and Scribes" display. We will also accept sculpture or any other 3-dimensional art. Artists of any age are welcome to participate.

If possible, please mat or frame your artwork or poetry. All submitted artwork in frames will need wire on the back for hanging. Quetzal Street Market (Book of Mormon interest groups and crafts)

Share your insights and special interests in the Book of Mormon at the Quetzal Street Market, and network with other Book of Mormon believers/seekers. Book of Mormon interest groups may sell Book of Mormon-related materials. Artisans may also sell crafts/products that might have been made in the Book of Mormon times (baskets, pottery, etc.)

Codex Corner (see below) will be included in the Market, and Stone Church will be selling lunch. The Stone Church Ministry of the Arts will also have items for sale. To reserve a market space (table), please email the Marketplace coordinator, Robyn Munn, at restorationsparkplug@comcast.net.

Codex Corner (Activities for children)
Codex Corner will include exciting activities for children, ages toddler through elementary ages. Watch your child create a codex, translate glyphs, and interpret Book of Mormon stories through creative movement. Dianne Nichols is the coordinator for this area. Please contact her at highground@ymail.com if you would like to assist in this area. We are also soliciting art/craft materials to use for the children's activities. If you have art or craft materials you would be willing to donate, please contact Dianne or Joanie for our list of needed materials.

Resource development
We will be creating a website to make photographs of the artwork, as well as the original songs, scripts, stories, poetry, etc. available for free download. If you are interested in developing a website, or if you would like to submit your original Book of Mormon-related works, they will be included on the website when it is completed.

Thoughts on Express the Light!

As I have been thinking about Express the Light! I think it might be appropriate to share some of my personal vision for this activity. It is really a result of four converging areas of concern.

First,
Two of my daughters dance and love the personal expression that it provides for them. One of my daughters is an accomplished pianist, and all of them sing. They hope to use their gifts for God's purposes and are excited to find venues within the church where artistic gifts can be shared.

I see many other young artists at the same point in life. There are many contests, competitions, school events, etc., available to them, but not as many opportunities available in a religious venue.

Many mature artists also appreciate a religious venue. Once school is completed, people often move on to jobs and business, and their artistic gifts go unused and undeveloped. Who knows what untapped artistic potential we have within our congregations, and what inspiring insights a mature artist could portray?

The Ministry of the Arts program at Stone Church is attempting to address these needs and develop these potentials for God's glory and the work of His Kingdom.

Second,
My husband and I have worked with congregational youth groups at various times, and of course have concern for our own children and their friends. The young people that we know are very busy and pulled in many directions. Often fellowship within the church can be somewhat lost in other activities. We watch for avenues where the youth can feel engaged and be invested in the church and with God.

Third,
We are looking for opportunities to build bridges. We have many friends in the Community of Christ church, the Restoration Branches, the LDS church, the Renmant church, and the Temple Lot church, and others. Many of us are so close, yet so separated. With its unique witness of Jesus Christ in the Americas, the Book of Mormon might be one of the most exciting connections that we can find within such divergent theologies.

Fourth,
I have always considered the Book of Mormon to be the scripture that God created for right-brained people because it portrays such powerful visual images. The history is engaging and colorful. It lends itself to hands-on exploration in a way that many parts of our scriptures, such as the letters of Paul (wonderful as they are), do not.

The imagery and excitement of the Book of Mormon stories make it an ideal vehicle for children and those with informational processing challenges. It was the easiest of all the scriptures for me to read when I was young. I have always had a strong personal connection with the Book of Mormon.

The idea of Express the Light! was born from this convergence of a desire for a venue where artistry can be developed for God's glory, concern for our youth, a searching for friendship and connections with others, and a personal appreciation for the many wonderful aspects of the Book of Mormon and its central focus on Jesus Christ.

The Restoration Choir will resume rehearsals on Sunday, January 15th at Atherton. We will be preparing for services celebrating the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The Magnet

Over dinner one night recently the family was discussing magnets. Bruce told about a magnet a friend showed him one time in a magnet manufacturing plant. It was huge, he said and from his description, I imagined it to be the size of an above ground swimming pool. The power of it, Bruce was told, was such that when turned on, it would attract anything of metal to it, including metal belt buckles and the persons wearing them. It could be incapacitating and even deadly.

Last night, the last of 2011, I dreamed I was in a large room of a manufacturing plant of some kind. A strange machine that looked like a large cattle trough was sitting on the floor in one quarter of the room. The sides of the machine were thick like stone,though it was made of gray metal. It had water in the bottom perhaps 2”-3” deep and there were small, slender, whitish looking things either lying or swimming in the water. It had a control box on the side of the tank at the top edge.

I wasn’t alone; there were workmates with me. One friend told me to be careful of the machine. It was a magnet and when turned on would draw anything close by to it. I would be powerless against its strength.Left in its grip I could suffer irreparable physical, emotional, and mental damage.

While in the room alone, my attention was drawn to the things in the bottom of the machine. I can’t say I had been instructed to do anything with them but I was working with them and my hands were wet. I am unclear what I was doing with them; it may have just been curiosity that drew me to the tank, like a little child. I could bend over the edge of it and reach them. While messing with the things, I rose up and inadvertently flipped the switch that turned the machine on and heard it begin to gradually power up.

I felt a tingling sensation in my hands. Fearing not only the magnetism, but also electrocution, I attempted to pull myself away from the machine. I could feel the power of the magnet immediately and it took all my strength to resist the pull of it as its power in creased. I managed to pull myself a few feet away, but I realized the magnet was an overcoming force and it would take all my might to free myself.

I thought to myself there must be a limit to the magnet’s field of power like a band around it and if I could reach beyond that band I would be safe. I was going to work as if that was a fact. At that moment I began to think of my life, my family, my friends and my God. It was the love of all these people and the desire to continue with them that made me resist with all the strength I had to get beyond the machine’s magnetic field.

At the last I was crawling, and pulling myself along the floor away from the tank. It seemed to help to make myself as small and low as possible before the machine. As I reached the outside edge of the magnetic field, before my eyes I saw a flash of sparks and felt a sudden release of my body. I was free. I was completely drained and lay there resting and thinking how close I had come to who knows what kind of captive life and eventual death.

Some of my work mates returned to the room at that point and saw the state of things. One of the men knew what to do to turn the power off at the machine. He was able to walk up to it and quickly flip the switch. It made no sense to me that he could do that and not be harmed by the magnetic power, but that is the way dreams are sometimes. But I also realized his knowledge of the machine and expertise was greater than mine. He knew what to do and how to handle the machine.

The Holy Spirit gave me several things to think about in this experience. For a long time I have struggled with temptation and a lack of desire to resist the world. Things like food,frivolous activities, and wasteful spending plague me. I feel powerless most of the time, but in the dream I was able to overcome as I thought about my great desire to live and be with my family, friends and my God. It was LOVE that broke through the powerful magnet’s ring.

The magnetic pull of the machine represented the world and all its attractions toward self gratifications. I am very weak and give in too often, but this dream showed me that the Holy Spirit which resides in man is strong enough to help overcome many, many temptations on our own.

There are times when I am in such a “pit”, others must lift me out, for the pit is too deep and I am too deep in the mire, but there are also many times that strong resistance on mypart will bring release. LOVE does conquer all. My love for all those I hold dear conquers some. The LOVE of Godand others for me overcomes the rest. Sometimes victory comes when both sources of love are applied.

The Spirit speaks further to say that the magnetism of the world is nothing to play around with. The fact that I didn’t know why I was doing what I was with the things in the bottom of the tank, describes the times I give no thought to my behavior. I stumble through life and find myself in the middle of something that I know nothing about and is not good for me to be dealing with at that moment. I have not prayed about it and asked Christ to guide me and show me his plan.

The machine in itself was not a bad thing, but it has a great deal of power and must be handled with care and knowledge, neither of which I was using. Curiosity is a powerful thing,which can lead to death or life. Abiding in Christ alone leads to life andmaintains it. Even good and godly ventures attempted too soon can be devastating.

The Spirit also pointed out that I was alone in the room when I got into trouble. If the other workers had been there the incident would not have occurred. Going it alone in the work of bringing forth Zion is not the will of the Lord for any saint. That is why He gave varying gifts to all His children. That is why we have a voice and are able to communicate. For safety as well as speed of achievement, we are meant to work in pairs and teams, and in a large unified body.

Further, I was shown that dropping to the floor to make myself very small and low, was a position of humility. I needed to be it to escape. Humility gains deliverance and salvation.

The Spirit is pleased with my desire and willingness to be God’s hands and feet, but my foolish ways of the past will be no match for the days ahead. They must give way to much more consistent, prayerful behavior, praying diligently and continuously for knowledge, wisdom, God’s timing, and family and friends to accomplish the work God has given me. Be patient, but persistent; any movement in that direction Christ assures me He will bless with more strength and power.

I believe this was a warning and a blessing for the days of 2012 and beyond that I might live successfully and in victory in Zion. I pass this along for those who may benefit by it.

1. Evidence of Near East connections

a. Using an analogy of colonization on the planet Mars, If you found building measurements of Metric scale you would say the colony probably came from earth. If both Metric and English measurements using feet and inches were found you would say "the colony would have had to come from earth." In Izapa, two cubit measurements are found. Both CUBIT measurements were used in the Middle East prior to 600 BC, a sure sign of Near East connections.

b. Dates found on various Stelae record all the Jewish holidays
celebrated by Jews prior to 600 BC. John Pratt's chronology shows that by using Jewish holidays, established by Moses, the date of Christ's birth can be determined as I BC, and His death can be established as occurring exactly 600 years from time Lehi left Jerusalem.

2. Evidence of existence of Father Lehi.

a. Stela 5; The Tree of Life stone.

(1) Nearly all of the points recorded in the Book of Mormon record of Lehi's dream are recorded graphically on the Stela. Some that are not could very well be on an eroded area. Examples: Six figures: Lehi, Sariah, Laman, Lemuel, Sam and Nephi. Name Glyphs for Lehi: (Jaw bone), Sariah: (Princess headdress with meaning of Sariah or princess.
Nephi: (headdress of grain, which represented an Egyptian Grain God named NEPI. The Tree of Life, Cherubim, the Rod of Iron, and the Spacious Building are all mentioned in Lehi's dream.)

b. It is possible that on another Stela figures which appears to be ear ornaments could in reality represent a jawbone, which is the name glyph for Lehi.

c. A ship on the ocean on another Stela could represent the voyage to America by Lehi and family.

3. A figure on another Stela has a breast ornament, which has been deciphered as ZORAM.

4.There are seven Stela arranged to represent the seven major
Mesoamerican families or tribes in the area--four on one side, three on the other. The Book of Mormon names seven major tribes with the names of Nephi, Jacob, Joseph, and Zoram on the good side and Laman, Lemuel, and Ishmael on the bad side.

5. The Stela are arranged semicircular as well as in elevated steps as if it were a temple or a sacred area.

6. Of all Mesoamerican sites mentioned in Book of Mormon, all seem to be destroyed except this area. This could mean that the area was sacred to both the Nephites and Lamanites just as Mount Moriah with its Dome of the Rock was sacred to both the Jews and the Moslems, it being the place where Abraham was to sacrifice Isaac. Both Jews and Moslems consider it to be a future site for their temple.

7. Idle Lamanites are recorded as the inhabitants of this area. "Idle" could be translated as neutral.

8. Names for this area are recorded in Indian histories as "Bountiful". A city "Bountiful" in the Book of Mormon could be located here. The Book of Mormon also describes it as the "Land of their Inheritance", "Judea" and "Joshua" (which could be translated as "Jesus", or "The Land of Jesus")

9. It is quite possible that the temple at "Bountiful" where Jesus
taught his Sermon at the Temple could have been in this sacred area.

10. During the final wars, Mormon's army drove the Lamanites back and reclaimed the "Land of their Inheritance". Was this the area?

He began his professional archaeology career in 1965 and worked as a research associate with the BYU-New World Archaeological Foundation's Izapa, Mexico project, completing the major work on the Izapa Sculpture project in 1976; a study which includes the Stela 5 "Tree of Life" stone. He taught seminary for ten years and has graduate degrees in Ancient Scripture and in Archaeology/Anthropology. He has had a life-long research interest in archaeological exploration of the Book of Mormon as well as Archaeo-Astronomy, ancient units of standard measurement, Book of Mormon geography and more. Brother Norman has published a comprehensive map of his proposed Book of Mormon geography model along with a study guide. Blessing and Recovery

Dear Friends.

Thank you for your prayers. On Wednesday I had heart sugery to put a stent in one of my heart arteries. What led to this was officially considered a heart attack. One artery was 97% closed with only a pin prick sized opening for blood to be sent through the artery. The surgery was successful, and there was no damage done to the heart. I came home on Wednesday, and I am able to do many things already. God blessed me through the whole experience, I knew He was with me. He comforted me.

I prefer to focus on this season and Jesus Christ. May you all have a Spirit-filled Christmas, blessed with love for family, and loved ones.

Restoration Branch Family Reunion and Elders Conference

As you may be aware, the Pastors of Zion (POZ)
and the Conference of Restoration Elders (CRE) are sponsoring a combined Reunion and Elders Conference in 2012.

We published in the last issue of the Tidings that the Reunion would be held at theCenter Place Restoration School (CPRS)/Waldo Restoration Branch from June 10through 15, 2012.

Recently we became aware that we had inadvertently scheduled the reunion for thesame week that our brothers and sisters from South Chrysler Restoration Branchare holding their reunion. It was our intent from the outset that the Restoration Branch Family Reunion and Elders Conference not compete with otherreunions. For this reason, we are rescheduling the reunion from the week ofJune 10 through 15, to the week of June 24 through 29, 2012. The location willstill be at the Center Place Restoration School (CPRS)/Waldo Restoration Branch.

We apologize for any difficulties this change may cause those who had alreadybegun to plan for the original date. We hope they will still be able to attend.

We look forward to the opportunity for worship and fellowship that this Reunion and Elders Conference represents. This email is for the purpose of checking the interest among the Saints in taking art.

I teach portraiture along with impressionist style painting and drawing, experimenting with fabric design and whatever else the students and I might find edifying.

Art is a journey of experimentation.

The cost of the lessons would be $80 for 4, 2 hour sessions for adults and $60 for 4, 1 ½ hour sessions for youth, plus materials. (Approximately $25-$50 for beginning sessions)

Classes would be either weekly on weekday mornings or Saturday mornings, 10 a.m. - Noon, every other Saturday.

The day of the week and times will be determined by those who sign up.

The location will be in the Independence Square area.

Prayer Requests

Diane Holly defeated breast cancer last year, but now she has been diagnosed with a malignant tumor in her brain. She had a bad reaction to chemotherapy with the breast cancer so they are having trouble coming up with a way to treat the tumor in the brain. Please pray for Diane and for the family and for the doctors that they will all have wisdom to know the best course of treatment and strength for what lies ahead.

Elayna McMillian needs prayers for MS. She is going through a difficult time now.

Young Isaac Akers is still having chemo, and had dental work done today due to the chemo damage. Please pray for his parents and for grandma, Kathy who has health issues and is understandably worried about Isaac.

Dene Smith is home from the hospital but still needs prayers.

Alice's Mom, Mrs. Zollar is having health problems.

Nathan and Michelle Sherer are still in China but they have their new son, Jesiah with them now! They would like prayers for a smooth transition for him.

This year a friend of ours is helping a woman who lives in Joplin. She is divorced and has no children. She lost everything in the tornado, including her place of employment. She has been sleeping on friends' couches for the last few months, however, she is now in the process of moving into her new apartment. She told me that every Christmas, she would decorate her apartment with Christmas cards that she had received and how much she loved them. All of her cards were lost in the tornado. When asked what she needed for Christmas, the only thing she asked for was for people to send her Christmas cards this year, so that she could decorate with them. We asked her permission to give out her name and address so that we could send her cards and she said that would be fine. So, if you have a chance, would you send her a card so that we could make her Christmas a little happier?

Austin Update

We want to thank everyone for their prayers, concern, and support and want to give you an update. Austin, unfortunately, is still in ICU at KU Med in an induced coma. On December 1, a portion of his skull was removed to allow room for the brain swelling. Today the doctors found an unknown anthrax-like infection inside his skull. He is on three antibiotics now and the lab is growing cultures to find out what exactly the infection is so they can treat it properly. They believe the infection caused, and is causing, the blood vessels to constrict which may have brought on the stroke. There are a lot of questions with very few answers. Right now, the recovery from the infection is the main focus. Please continue to keep Austin, his parents, and his doctors in your prayers.

This is a new website featuring some of the nearly 100 songs that Diane "Dee" Anderson Ludy wrote during more than 20 years of teaching at Sionita School. The curriculum included Scripture study and introduced a verse from each week's reading, which the students were expected to memorize. Dee began composing melodies for some of the verses, which the students learned rapidly. Even years later many were able to sing what they had learned as children.

Most of her music was written with young people in mind, but much of it is also appropriate for adults. Music has a unique way of helping us all learn. Some of it has been used by soloists and small groups.

Update on Rachelle

I want to thank everyone who responded to this email in prayer or otherwise simply reading it.
I talked with Rachelle's mother Gladys last night and she said the doctor couldn't find anything wrong with her other then she was dehydrated. Her and her brother Brandon and I guess everybody else in that house started to come down with a stomach bug.

Rachelle went back to the hospital today for a check-up and they found that she had a kidney infection I guess due to her dehydration. I talked with her mother tonight and I hear she's doing much better, she's finally getting some much needed rest. As for her brother they gave him some pedia-care juice to help with his electralyts.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Ours was great. We have so much to be thankful for...it couldn't be anything but wonderful. Eric, Aiden and I went up to the hospital tonight to spend time with mom, dad, and Chris. (Haleigh and Ean stayed home with Mimi...they haven't been up to see Papa yet.) Thanks to some very precious church friends, we had Thanksgiving dinner at the hospital together. The most touching moment of the evening was when Eric brought Aiden into dad's room. He went over and stood by his bed and held his hand. He kept looking at each of us and saying, "Papa! Papa!" (All of the kids have missed him so much, but Aiden has missed his papa time. Dad watches him for me when I go into work two mornings a week. They are buddies and do all kinds of fun things together like picking acorns in the yard, making cookies, and singing nursery rhymes.) He held his hand for a little while, then I opened dad's eyes so that he could see him. When their eyes met, their faces both just lit up and they broke out in huge smiles. It was so sweet!

Dad is still making progress. The days when he has kidney dialysis, he is pretty wiped out. But he is talking a little more and is doing great in his physical therapy. Earlier in the week, he walked 90 feet with his walker! Those eyelids seem to be opening up a little more. He seems to be awake more and is spending more time in his recliner. He enjoys listening to the hymns and several nurses have commented on how touched they are to walk in and catch him conducting or even singing. I am so thankful that he is still able to do something that he loves so much. :)

Sometime very soon (could be tomorrow, could be next week) he will be moving out of the hospital and into rehab care. We are still working out the details, but I will let you know when he moves and where he is going (we are hoping Blue Springs, but not positive yet.) I'm just amazed that he is leaving the hospital so soon. When this all started, I would never have guessed that he would be out in just under three weeks. God is amazing.

Please continue to keep him in your prayers (strength, his eyes, and his kidneys...and of course whatever else the good Lord places on your heart.) We love you all and thank you for thinking of us and praying with us through all of this. :)

These are older gentle cows, bred back to an Angus bull. We would love to find good homes for them with someone needing a family milk cow or a cow to put calves on. They are easy keepers and have calved every year with no assistance. They are like part of the family so we’d really like to see them go back to the farm!

Dorothy Moreland's father, Evangelist-Patriarch Paul Fishel, wrote a book about his life and ministry in the church. It is called "In the Restoration Light." He and his wife, Ruby, were able to touch many lives. The book also includes Paul's last prayer before he died, given at the church in Vancouver, WA, and an inspired message that is very fitting to us still today. Dear Saints,

On behalf of our brothers and sisters in Latin America, we want to thank all of you for your prayers for the priesthood and members. They volunteer as teachers, missionaries, and friendly visitors, as well as donating their vehicles, talents and meager funds to the work. Any who have visited there know the light of the gospel burns brightly there. We also thank all who have made contributions to the Latin American Missions Board (LAMB) in the past.

The priesthood in Honduras and Brother Juan Reyes in Mexico are continuing steadfast in their faithfulness to the fullness of the gospel. These brethren support numerous congregations and travel sometimes great distances on a regular schedule to bring ministry to the Saints and many others who are desirous to hear the message of God’s coming kingdom and to share in the presence of the Holy Spirit as they come together to worship. Having little of this world’s goods themselves, they make many sacrifices to carry out the responsibilities the Lord has placed upon them.

We wish to give you another opportunity to share from God’s blessings to you this year, hoping that by doing so, you may reap even more abundantly. In this busy holiday time, we invite you to take a break from cooking and cleanup on Friday, December 9th at 6:00 pm at South Crysler Restoration Branch and be our guests for an evening of fun and fellowship in the interest of our Lord Jesus and some of His “other sheep.”

Dad is doing great! God is so good!
He has had two rounds of dialysis for his kidney. After his dialysis, he is wiped out for about a day, so he is getting a lot of rest. He passed his swallow test so he doesn't need his feeding tube anymore! He had green beans, peaches, and lemonade for dinner and very much enjoyed having real food again. He still can't hold his eyelids up, but HE CAN SEE!!! Mom held his eyes open and held up fingers in front of him and he counted how many there were. His nurse was talking with him today and he was able to tell her where he was, his name, and he was able to spell his last name for her!!! We are so thrilled with each of these steps...they are HUGE. Yesterday, mom said that three of his nurses from the ICU came to see him and just stood there and smiled. It's so wonderful to see how the miracle of his recovery has touched so many. Thank you again for your prayers. Please continue to pray for his kidneys, his eyes, and for continued healing and strength.

Dad has continued to make amazing progress. Yesterday, I got this text from mom...
Dad stood up for about four minutes and rebalanced himself with the walker. He did four minutes twice! The therapist said, "This man is a miracle!"
Then, Eric called me when he got back from his visit. (The walk from Eric's desk to Dad's bed is 8 minutes, so he goes and visits him on his lunch hour every day.) He said that they had taken him to the gym and dad walked 25 feet with his walker twice! Two miracles in one day! God is so good! :)
The type of stroke that he has is called an Artery of Percheron. The neurologist said that it is extremely rare. He said that you can easily be a neurologist for twenty years and never see one. They said that they don't know much about them, but they do know how to treat them. They have decided to put him on temporary kidney dialysis. His kidney (he only has one) is producing, but not filtering. They are hoping that the dialysis will get his kidney back to working the way that it should. His talking has gone from only short answers to short answers followed by conversational babble. You can't quite understand what he is saying, but by his expressions, you can tell that he is trying to communicate more thoughts to us. His piano tuner friend came to visit and asked him what he thought about moving a piano from Mississippi (something they had talked about before) and dad shrugged his shoulders and began jabbering. We aren't sure what he said, but the shoulder shrug and expression on is face were exactly how dad would have responded. He is making tiny bits of progress with opening his eyes. He can now get them open a crack. I saw those brown eyes peek through the other day and it made me smile.
Mom is continuing to do very well. She said that it is so amazing that when we hit an obstacle, the prayers go up and God takes care of it. We know that He can do anything, but it is wonderful to see his work first hand in a fragile situation like this. Haleigh talked to him on the phone tonight and cried happy tears when she heard that he told her he loved her. The kids miss their Papa and can't wait to hear the updates every day. Haleigh (my 8 year old) is even teaching Aiden (my 22 month old) to pray for Papa each morning. They fold their little hands and she says the words and he tries to repeat them. It's precious.
Thank you again for the continued prayers. We continue to be encouraged and are constantly feeling blessed. It is so easy to offer prayers of thanksgiving...we have so much to be thankful for. :)

Leo Gusmann's update for Monday & Tuesday

The last couple of days have been good ones. I have always known that my father is an amazing man, but even in this difficult time, he is still able to amaze me. (I am talking about my dad AND my heavenly father.) :)
He did not get his breathing tube out yesterday. They turned the ventilator off and tested him to see if he could breathe on his own and he did great. However, they are concerned that he is still too sleepy to be able to support his airway, so they are going to try again in a few days.
He hasn't been able to open his eyes...those eyelids just look like they are so heavy when he tries. But, today, they saw a little bit of white eyeball. His pupils still are not responding to light, but today he started reacting when they quickly move an object in front of him.
He is still responding and following commands. Today he was asked to follow one as detailed as, "Raise your index finger on your right hand" and he did it. Amazing.
Today he was able to sit on the side of the bed by himself for ten minutes. Tomorrow they are going to try to let him sit in a chair. It blows my mind that four days ago he had just had a massive stroke and was unresponsive with a poor diagnosis. Never underestimate the power of prayer. :)
Eric and Mom both made him smile today. We needed that. God is so good.
Mom is doing great. She is able to see him in the mornings and evenings. She is doing a long term sub position in Haleigh's third grade class and I can't think of a better place for her to be. She is so positive and I am amazed by her strength.
The prayers for strength and peace for the family are being answered in so many ways. Issues have come up, but have been taken care of before we even have a chance to worry and when we have a low moment, it isn't long before we get a message or call and hear the exact words that we need. I'm probably not explaining it well, but it really is amazing.
Our friends have become more like family through all of this and we lean on every little word. We are being taken care of in every way and thank you for letting the Lord use you to be a blessing to us. :)

20 boxes of children’s books
donated by a retiring librarian
to Irving School Saturday, November 5th,
then picked up seven refurbished bikes
at Spokes and Spandex Bike Shop
to deliver to Relief Spark base camp
for distribution to Joplin families.

At each destination they gathered
with the administrators for prayer.

Roger offered a blessing for safety, health,
provision, and prosperity
upon Irving School, the bike shop and its owner,
Steve Cooper who took care of the bikes at no charge,
And for the projects of Relief Spark.

CHRISTMAS 2011 – BIRTH OF A NEW TRADITION

As the holidays approach, the giant Asian factories are kicking into high gear to provide Americans with monstrous piles of cheaply produced goods -- merchandise that has been produced at the expense of American labor.

This year will be different. This year Americans will give the gift of genuine concern for other Americans. There is no longer an excuse that, at gift giving time, nothing can be found that is produced by American hands. Yes there is!

It's time to think outside the box, people. Who says a gift needs to fit in a shirt box, wrapped in Chinese produced wrapping paper?

Everyone -- yes EVERYONE gets their hair cut. How about gift certificates from your local American hair salon or barber?

Gym membership? It's appropriate for all ages who are thinking about some health improvement.

Who wouldn't appreciate getting their car detailed? Small, American owned detail shops and car washes would love to sell you a gift certificate or a book of gift certificates.

Are you one of those extravagant givers who think nothing of plunking down the Benjamin's on a Chinese made flat-screen? Perhaps that grateful gift receiver would like his driveway sealed, or lawn mowed for the summer, or driveway plowed all winter, or games at the local golf course.

There are a bazillion owner-run restaurants -- all offering gift certificates. And, if your intended isn't the fancy eatery sort, what about a half dozen breakfasts at the local breakfast joint. Remember, folks this isn't about big National chains -- this is about supporting your home town Americans with their financial lives on the line to keep their doors open.

How many people couldn't use an oil change for their car, truck or motorcycle, done at a shop run by the American working guy?

Thinking about a heartfelt gift for mom? Mom would LOVE the services of a local cleaning lady for a day.

My computer could use a tune-up, and I KNOW I can find some young guy who is struggling to get his repair business up and running.

OK, you were looking for something more personal. Local crafts people spin their own wool and knit them into scarves. They make jewelry, and pottery and beautiful wooden boxes.

Plan your holiday outings at local, owner operated restaurants and leave your server a nice tip. And, how about going out to see a play or ballet at your hometown theater.

Musicians need love too, so find a venue showcasing local bands.

Honestly, people, do you REALLY need to buy another ten thousand Chinese lights for the house? When you buy a five dollar string of light, about fifty cents stays in the community. If you have those kinds of bucks to burn, leave the mailman, trash guy or babysitter a nice BIG tip.

You see, Christmas is no longer about draining American pockets so that China can build another glittering city. Christmas is now about caring about US, encouraging American small businesses to keep plugging away to follow their dreams. And, when we care about other Americans, we care about our communities, and the benefits come back to us in ways we couldn't imagine.

THIS is the new American Christmas tradition.

Forward this to everyone on your mailing list -- post it to discussion groups -- throw up a post on Craigslist in the Rants and Raves section in your city -- send it to the editor of your local paper and radio stations, and TV news departments. This is a revolution of caring about each other, and isn't that what Christmas is about?
