AUSTRALIAN RESTORATION NEWS OCTOBER 2018
Around and About the Centre Place
by High Priest Paul J. Gage, Independence, Missouri.
And time marches on and waits for no man, or person. It certainly often seems that time is speeding up or I am getting slower. Doctrine and Covenants 83:16 speaks to the conditions of the world as well as our lives and says ":until I have completed my work, which shall be cut short in righteousness." Verse 17 then speaks of our hope in the Kingdom. Everything God has done, is doing, and will do is beyond our human comprehension and therefore we lack, to some extent, the ability to truly appreciate God's love. As the seasons come and go, people make various preparations for each season. Each day of our lives is a "new season," so what do we do to prepare for each day and of course, our life? Sanctification seems to be an aspect of the gospel that we like to hear about, but don't want to take the action necessary for us to become "sanctified." Sanctification and sacrifice go together, hand in hand. To sanctify our lives, we must sacrifice those things that keep us from being sanctified. This is brought to our attention in Doctrine and Covenants 85:16-21. This scripture is worthy of an in-depth study and application by each one who has made a covenant with the Lord. Entering God's Kingdom is not an automatic thing that just happens. No one will simply walk into God's Kingdom with no effort to make sure they have on the "wedding garment." This is referenced in Matthew 22:1-14. DC 85 is filled with a great amount of instruction that is given for us to prepare ourselves. Be sure to read verse 20 a & b. In verse b we are told several things that we must do on our own, and yet the major part of the cleansing of our lives is done by the Lord, after we do what we are instructed to do; Also see DC 81:3. There is always an abundance of events. activities, services, etc going on in the Centre Place. One event, of note, a "Special Prayer Service held at Waldo Avenue RB on Sunday September 16, 2018 and sponsored by the Waldo Avenue RB. The service was filled with a presence of the Holy Spirit as those in attendance shared. The service was open to all who desired to come and pray for the Kingdom of God. The CRE missionary groups continue to be very active.. Recent missions have been made to England and Germany with other mission trips planned for Africa, Canada, India, Nepal, and the Philippines The next issue of Tidings of Zion is being printed and should be in the homes by early October. We also desire to sponsor a mission trip to Australia in 2019. Our prayer for the Saints in Australia and the world is that God will continue to open those doors of ministry to each of us as we work toward sanctifying our lives for His Divine purposes .

Riches From The Scriptures. by Elder Neil Kerswell, Queensland,Australia. Chapter 21 Church History Part 3. Last Time we met we covered the following: 1. Joseph was persecuted by Churches and people in positions of power for his testimony that God spoke to him. 2. After mixing with some bad company to find some sort of human companionship Joseph repented and asked God for another experience. 3. The Angel Moroni/Nephi told him of gold plates which contained a record of the former inhabitants of the land. He explained to Joseph some Bible prophecies etc. 4. Some people tried to steal the Book of Mormon plates. 5. Martin Harris lost pages of the translated Book of Mormon, he broke his promise to Joseph and showed many people. It was never found. Thankfully God gave some new revelations explaining what Satan was planning to do in relation to the missing pages (Satan was hoping they would be retranslated again and if there was the slightest variation, plant in the hearts of people that the work was false). God had foreseen this and told them the same information was contained in another section of the Book of Mormon and they should start translation there instead
Church History Volume 1 Chapter 3
The work of translation continued without any other extra-ordinary event transpiring until Friday, May 15, when the Aaronic priesthood was conferred upon them through the instrumentality of John the Baptist. On this point we allow Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery to relate the circumstance. Joseph Smith says:-"We still continued the work of translation, when in the ensuing month (May, eighteen hundred and twenty-nine) we on a certain day went into the woods to pray and inquire of the Lord respecting baptism for the remission of sins, as we found mentioned in the translation of the plates. While we were thus employed, praying, and calling upon the Lord, a messenger from heaven descended in a cloud of light, and having laid his hands upon us, he ordained us, saying unto us, 'Upon you, my fellow servants, in the name of Messiah, I confer the priesthood of Aaron, which holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism by immersion, for the remission of sins; and this shall never be taken from the earth, until the sons of Levi do offer again an offering unto the Lord in righteous ness.' [Page 36] He said this Aaronic priesthood had not the power of laying on of hands, for the gift of the Holy Ghost, but that this should be conferred on us hereafter; and he commanded us to go and be baptized, and gave us directions that I should baptize Oliver Cowdery, and afterwards that he should baptize me. "Accordingly we went and were baptized, I baptized him first, and afterwards he baptized me, after which I laid my hands upon his head and ordained him to the Aaronic priesthood, and afterwards he laid his hands on me and ordained me to the same priesthood, for so we were commanded. "The messenger who visited us on this occasion, and conferred this priesthood upon us, said that his name was John, the same that is called John the Baptist, in the New Testament, and that he acted under the direction of Peter, James, and John, who held the keys of the priesthood of Melchisedec, which priesthood he said should in due time be conferred on us-and that I should be called the first elder, and he the second. It was on the fifteenth day of May, eighteen hundred and twenty-nine, that we were baptized and ordained under the hand of the messenger.
This experience is very important and is what sets apart the coming forth of our church from all others. God gave us a gift of authority initially to minister in the Aaronic Priesthood. If we liken the Kingdom of God to my country of Birth Australia. We, who are born here, inherit rights and privileges because we are legal citizens, members of this kingdom of Australia. There are other people within our kingdom who have the right to teach our children, some have authority to serve as police or leaders within this land. In God’s kingdom we have to be reborn through baptism and with this comes some rights and privileges and some people are called by God to be Leaders and teachers. Just like in Australia we need to abide within the laws to maintain our liberty, so it is in God’s Kingdom there are laws we need to abide in for there to be blessings. Let’s read on.
"Immediately upon our coming up out of the water, after we had been baptized, we experienced great and glorious blessings from our heavenly Father. No sooner had I baptized Oliver Cowdery than the Holy Ghost fell upon him and he stood up and prophesied many things which should shortly come to pass. And again, so soon as I had been baptized by him, I also had the spirit of prophecy, when, standing up, I prophesied concerning the rise of the church, and many other things connected with the church, and this generation of the children of men. We were filled with the Holy Ghost, and rejoiced in the God of our salvation. "Our minds being now enlightened, we began to have the Scriptures laid open to our understandings, and the true meaning of their more mysterious passages revealed unto us, in a manner which we never could attain to previously, nor ever before had thought of. In the meantime we were forced to keep secret the circumstances of our having been baptized, and having received the priesthood, owing to a spirit of persecution which had already manifested itself in the neighborhood. We had been threatened with being mobbed, from time to time, and this too by professors of religion. And their intentions of mobbing us were only counteracted by the influence of my wife's father's family, (under Divine Providence,) who had become very friendly to me, and were opposed to mobs, and were willing that I should be allowed to continue the work of translation without interruption; and therefore offered and promised us protection from all unlawful proceedings as far as in them lay. "After a few days, however, feeling it to be our duty, we commenced to reason out of the Scriptures, with our acquaintances and friends, as we happened to meet with them. About this time my brother Samuel H. Smith came to visit us. We informed him of what the Lord was about to do for the children of men; and to reason with him out of the Bible. We also showed him that part of the work which we had translated, and labored to persuade him concerning the gospel of Jesus Christ which was now about to be revealed in its fullness. He was not, however, very easily persuaded of these things, but after much inquiry and explanation, he retired to the woods, in order that by secret and fervent prayer he might obtain of a merciful God, wisdom to enable him to judge for himself. The result was that he obtained revelations for himself sufficient to convince him of the truth of our assertions to him, and on the fifteenth day of that same month in which we had been baptized and ordained, Oliver Cowdery baptized him; and he returned to his father's house greatly glorifying and praising God, being filled with the Holy Spirit."-Times and Seasons, vol. 8, pp. 865, 866. Oliver Cowdery says:- "This was not long desired before it was realized. The Lord, who is rich in mercy, and ever willing to answer the consistent prayer of the humble, after we had called upon him in a fervent manner, aside from the abodes of men, condescended to manifest to us his will. On a sudden, as from the midst of eternity, the voice of the Redeemer spake peace to us, while the vail was parted and the angel of God came down clothed with glory, and delivered the anxiously looked for message, and the keys of the gospel of repentance! What joy! What wonder! What amazement! While the world was racked and distracted-while millions were groping as the blind for the wall, and while all men were resting upon uncertainty, as a general mass, our eyes beheld-our ears heard. As in the 'blaze of day;' yes, more-above the glitter of the May sunbeam, which then shed its brilliancy over the face of nature! Then his voice, though mild, pierced to the center, and his words, 'I am thy fellow servant,' dispelled every fear. We listened-we gazed-we admired! 'Twas the voice of the angel from glory-'twas a message from the Most High! and as we heard we rejoiced, while his love enkindled upon our souls, and we were rapt in the vision of the Almighty! Where was room for doubt? Nowhere: uncertainty had fled, doubt had sunk, no more to rise, while fiction and deception had fled forever! "But, dear brother, think, further think for a moment, what joy filled our hearts and with what surprise we must have bowed, (for who would not have bowed the knee for such a blessing?) when we received under his hand the holy priesthood, as he said, 'Upon you my fellow-servants, in the name of Messiah, I confer this priesthood and this authority, which shall remain upon earth, that the sons of Levi may yet offer an offering unto the Lord in righteousness!' "I shall not attempt to paint to you the feelings of this heart, nor the majestic beauty and glory which surrounded us on this occasion; but you will believe me when I say, that earth, nor men, with the eloquence of time, cannot begin to clothe language in as interesting and sublime a manner as this holy personage. No; nor has this earth power to give the joy, to bestow the peace, or comprehend the wisdom which was contained in each sentence as they were delivered by the power of the Holy Spirit! Man may deceive his fellow-man; deception may follow deception, and the children of the wicked one may have power to seduce the foolish and untaught, till naught but fiction feeds the many, and the fruit of falsehood carries in its current the giddy to the grave; but one touch with the finger of his love, yes, one ray of glory from the upper world, or one word from the mouth of the Savior, from the bosom of eternity, strikes it all into significance, and blots it forever from the mind! The assurance that we were in the presence of an angel; the certainty that we heard the voice of Jesus, and the truth unsullied as it flowed from a pure personage, dictated by the will of God, is to me, past description, and I shall ever look upon this expression of the Savior's goodness with wonder and thanksgiving while I am permitted to tarry, and in those mansions where perfection dwells and sin never comes, I hope to adore in that day which shall never cease!"-Messenger and Advocate, vol. 1, pages 15, 16. - The testimony of Oliver Cowdery, graphic and beautiful as it is, does not go as far with the history of the events as does Joseph Smith's, but it is gratifying to note such complete harmony in these two accounts of this, one of the most important epochs in the history of the latter-day work. I hope your heart was filled with joy as you read these accounts from the history of our Church. These men truly saw and experienced something special, so great that they struggled I think to put it in words that expressed the majesty, love and power of God exactly as they knew and understood it at the time. We need testimony filled with power and truth like this today. To restate some of the words of Oliver Cowdery (Man may deceive his fellow-man; deception may follow deception, and the children of the wicked one may have power to seduce the foolish and untaught, till naught but fiction feeds the many, and the fruit of falsehood carries in its current the giddy to the grave; but one touch with the finger of his love, yes, one ray of glory from the upper world, or one word from the mouth of the Savior, from the bosom of eternity, strikes it all into significance, and blots it forever from the mind!). A good dose of that sort of ministry to the soul from the Saviour would do us all a world of good. Praise God for what He has done in the past and may we look forward in faith and prayer to the future. Is my prayer in name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
****************** Testimony “We All Have Hidden Talents by Elder Noel Rowlatt, Kingston Branch. Queenslamd. While I am a third generation Latter Day Saint I was not raised in the Church.. My mother was a member and my dad was a non practicing Catholic which meant my mum wasn’t able to attend her church at that time, My formal education finished when I left school at 14 years of age to start work. In those days education wasn’t considered as important as it is today. I had started drinking by the age of 19 when Seventy Vivian Sorenson, at the request of my mother came for a visit one night with an invitation to attend Tiona Reunion in New South Wales. I am forever grateful to a cousin, Athol Duncan, who agreed to accompany me (sacrificing spending Christmas with his wife and family). Experiencing the love and warmth of the people and the wonderful message of the gospel propounded by Apostle Roscoe Davey, I was baptized at the end of the Reunion. I was a very shy and nervous person and had gone through my schooling without ever standing to speak in front of the class. The first time I spoke at a Church School Worship I fainted.. When I was called to the Office of Deacon a year or so later and listed for a sermonette, I had a most attentive congregation (to see if I would make it through; I had to sit down when I felt I was going to faint then stand up and carry on). In response to one Elder telling me I had better give trying to preach away for a while, I replied that I was determined to persevere. Gradually I overcame my nervousness problem but I don’t think I have ever had such an attentive a congregation since. By the time I was 30 I had also served for 2 years in the Office of Priest and was now an Elder and Pastor of the old Buranda Branch. When I committed my life to Jesus I thought I had no talents or abilities but He can make an amazing difference in our lives. I was told in my Patriarchal Blessing that he was involved in the selection of my marriage partner. She was a wonderful wife and mother to our 3 children till she passed away 4 years ago after 60 years of marriage. In retrospect the Lord has guided me in life, as much as I was prepared to let Him, and helped me to develop talents to accomplish tasks in his service I would never have been able to do without His challenge and His help and guidance. It is good for me to think back and see for myself how the Lord has used me and blessed me. Don’t misunderstand me, I don’t say the results were always perfect and you probably wouldn’t go out of your way to hear me preach or teach but I have always said yes, if possible, when tasks for the Lord needed to be done. Some of avenues of service the Lord has helped me with ~ starting with Church School janitor, Youth Supervisor, Youth camp leader (the days when we had to head to the bush taking tents, beds, all cooking gear, and toilet; happy memories!), Pastor many times, Camp Fire leader at Queensland Reorganized Reunions for many years, Reunion Director a couple of times, singing in quartets and church choir and serving as conductor one year, even though I can’t read music but we still managed to sing Handel’s Messiah; leading Witnessing Weekend teams, District President for 2 years till Section 156 was accepted by the Church. performed over 50 Weddings before I had to surrender my marriage license when I ceased attending the Reorganized Church 30 years ago and also conducted many funeral services My wife and I started meeting with some other disenchanted saints a few years later in homes and eventually formed a Branch which evolved into the Church of Jesus Christ Restoration Branch, Kingston over which Elder Alma Kerswell has presided for many years. Growing out of the ministry of Elder Doug Smith and Family and our first Restoration Reunion here in Australia the need for some publication to keep the few saints in our big country informed became apparent so the Australian Restoration News came into being in April 2001 and I have been editing and publishing our little monthly news-letter for the last 8 years. This epistle is starting to read more like a eulogy than a testimony. I want to state that I am a sinner that has stumbled many times along life’s pathway, that as a relatively uneducated young man, who, by the grace of God heard the Gospel and turned my life around and in striving to serve my Lord, developed some talents that I would probably never have realized that I had and in the process overcome my nervousness and shyness and found joy in His service. The point I want to emphasize is as the heading states “We All Have Hidden Talents” and we need to seek to discover and develop them, along with those we already know we have, and we will have self satisfaction and broaden our usefulness in the master’s service. The next time you are asked to accept some task that would be serving your God and your fellow man whether it be teaching a Church school class, visiting shut ins, being the person that makes people feel welcome when they come to church or to finding out if they are OK when they don’t or whatever, please think twice before you reply with “I couldn’t do that” or “I’m too shy” or ”I’m too busy”. You could be closing the door on discovering and developing new talents and abilities to help in the building of God’s kingdom. I can recommend it from personal experience. “If you put your faith in God, He helps you achieve what may seem impossible”.

Francis Harper Message 09/28/2018
Dear Ones,
My banker, Kenner Swedberg, once said to me; “Francis, people never change.” Later, as I pondered upon his statement, I thought, if people never change, why should I continue to preach? I continued preaching because I had witnessed the lives of people being changed when they have embraced the truth being taught and preached by faithful servants of the Lord. Paul wrote: “We preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them who believe . . .” Christ is the power and wisdom of God. (1 Corinthians 1:23).
Years later I met my former banker, as I was visiting a patient at the VA Hospital in Omaha. He was dressed in a black suit and was wearing a clerical collar. He had become a preacher! I reminded him of his statement that people never change. He had proven that people can change, by the changes in his own life and his decision to become a minister of the gospel. Years ago, in the horse and buggy days, a man was quoted saying, “After my baptism and becoming active in the church, even my horses noticed a difference in me.”
I have called Phikal, Ilam, which is located in Eastern Nepal, “the village of the mighty change.” We have witnessed lives being mightily changed in this small town. Basanti Bishwa Karma and her three daughters were being sheltered in a dugout area under Pastor Pushkal Gadel’s home. She had been married to an alcoholic who had run away with another woman, leaving his wife and their daughters to fend for themselves. Basanti was also an alcoholic. In addition she was a Hindu prophetess/fortune teller and the habitation of demons. I was not aware of her past history until after Basanti and her daughters were baptized on March 27, 2008. During her confirmation, Basanti began to jerk and laugh. I recall Dr. Roy Cheville speaking of “the jerks.” This was a common occurrence during the days of the great revivals in our country. I had not witnessed such behavior in all my years of ministry. As we continued to pray the evil spirit departed and was replaced by the Holy Spirit. Proof of the invisible presence of the Holy Spirit was manifested when Basanti gradually relaxed and began to quietly shed tears of joy and peace. Ten years have passed and to my knowledge Basanti has never been troubled by the evil spirits since the day of her deliverance. People of the community have been amazed by the changes they have witnessed in the lives of Basanti and her children. Basanti has become a saint who is “valiant in testimony;” a seeker for lost souls!
Keshan and Indira Sundash have also experienced a mighty change since the day of their baptisms on March 27, 2008. We visited their home on April 20, 2014. It was clean, well organized and neat. Indira said before she was baptized she was jaundiced and often experienced severe sweating. I had been told they had formerly lived like animals. They drank alcohol from 3PM to 3AM. They fought with each other and their neighbors. Keshan was employed by a tailor making shirts. He could make only four shirts in a day. Now he makes seven each day, has his own business, provides employment for four others, and he serves in the priesthood. “. . . this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes” (Matthew 21:44 IV; 21:42 KJV). In the presence of the Holy Spirit lives are changed, including our own.

Be Ye Transformed
“. . . be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God is” (Romans 12:2).
The apostle Paul called Demas a “fellow laborer” in a letter to Philemon, (verse 14). Evidently Demas and Luke, the beloved physician, were with Paul in Rome, (see Colossians 4:14). Later Paul writes: “. . . Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica . . . only Luke is with me” (2 Timothy 4:10-11).
Paul’s statement: “having loved this present world,” describes most of us who call ourselves the followers of Christ today. We also love the present world and far too often we are conformed to this world! As has been asked before, if we were arrested and taken to court for being a Christian would they find enough evidence to convict us? We may be like a chameleon; a lizard, who has the unusual ability to change the color of his skin to conform with his environment!
We are called to be non-conformists; peculiar people. Jesus came “that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works” (Titus 2:14). He came to assist us in our transformation, or our conversion. Paul described this process: “And he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. Wherefore, henceforth (from now on) live we no more after the flesh; yea, though we once lived after the flesh, yet since we have known Christ, now henceforth live we no more after the flesh. Therefore if any man live in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:15-17).
The transformation of our personalities from selfishness and pride to humility and love, is called a mighty change in Mosiah 3:3. After King Benjamin had spoken to his people he asked if they believed his words. They answered: “yea, we believe all the words which thou hast spoken to us; And also, we know of their surety and truth, because of the Spirit of the Lord Omnipotent, which has wrought a mighty change in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually.”
Alma wrote of his father’s response to the words of the prophet Abinadi: “And according to his faith there was a mighty change wrought in his heart. Behold I say unto you, that this is all true. And behold, he preached the word unto your fathers, and a mighty change was also wrought in their hearts; and they humbled themselves, and put their trust in the true and living God. And behold, they were faithful until the end; therefore they were saved. And now behold, I ask of you, my brethren of the church, . . . have you experienced this mighty change in your hearts?” (Alma 3:29). And today, September 28, 2018; I ask you the same question. Have you experienced this mighty change in your heart?

PRAYERS AND HELP: This post is from my son Robby Baber. Our grandson did not come home after school today. His name is Matthew Baber. Please let us know if you see him or his friend. I have no doubt his friends and family are as worried as we are. Matthew is the one on the right with the word "Savage" on his shirt. Please pray for their safety and return home!!! Thank you all so very much!!
Friends and family,
Matthew did not come home from school today and is apparently running around with a kid named Devin Corum. We’ve heard from people that they are fine but trying to find a way to get to Arizona. These boys have both been in trouble this last week and have decided they will be better on their own. Please spread the word and let me know if you or anyone you know can help us locate them.

NAMI Homefront is a free, 6-session educational program for families, caregivers and friends of military service members and vets with mental health conditions.
Based on the nationally recognized NAMI Family-to-Family program, NAMI Homefront is designed to address the unique needs of family, caregivers and friends of those who have served or are currently serving our country. The program is taught by trained family members of service members/veterans living with mental health conditions.

• Manage crises, solve problems and communicate effectively
• Learn to care for yourself, including managing your stress
• Develop the confidence and stamina to support your family member with
compassion
• Identify and access federal, state and local services
• Stay informed on the latest research and information on mental health, including posttraumatic stress disorder and substance abuse
• Understand current treatments, including evidence-based therapies, medications and side effects
• Navigate the challenges and impact of mental health conditions on the entire
family
What People Are Saying
“You realize that he will never be the same having been through war. I learned how to treat him more as an adult than as a hurt child.”— Mother of a Veteran after graduating from a NAMI Family-to-Family class held at a VA clinic
“We are still friends with everyone that was in the class. There’s always and open ear and an open heart and a shoulder to cry on if you need it.” — Father of a Veteran after graduating from a NAMI Family-to-Family class held at a VA hospital.

6 Books That Most Saints Don’t Know Exist—Part 3

paulvludy@gmail.com
6 Books That Most Saints Don’t Know Exist—Part 3
• Boyd, Theo E., Poetic Reflections from the Dust, 1979, hard, 126 pages $5.00
Poetic statements from each of the books of the Book of Mormon. These are not la-di-da poems in rhyme but quotations from the ancient American Scriptures that have lyrical qualities about them.
• Cheville, Roy A., Joseph and Emma, Companions, 1977, hard, 206 pages $10.00
This is a study of a relationship that was faced with unusual demands. It is not a romantic novel. It is about faith and love for God and one’s companion. The book traces their lives apart and together. One chapter is “Monogamy vs. Polygamy.” The book ends with a list of 100 events in the background and lives of Joseph and Emma Smith.
• Fountain, Janice Norris, Where Is the Promise of His Coming? (Book 2‑‑The Feast Days of Israel), 1995, soft, 344 pages $10.00
This is an enlarged and expanded book based on Jan Fountain’s 1991 book with the same title. [Which is available for $5.00.] This book contains evidence that Jesus Christ is the long-awaited Messiah of the Jews. They had been rehearsing His coming for centuries through their feasts. The first four feasts were prophecies fulfilled by Christ’s first appearance. His second coming should follow the pattern of the last three feasts.
• Garnier, Jack W., Images & Impressions, 1988, hard, 64 8.5x11" pages $10.00
An artist for the RLDS Church for several decades, Jack Garnier has produced a book of art showing several of the familiar events and places relating to the Restoration. There are 31 full-color paintings, plus many sketches and scenes in black and white.
• Henderson, John and Lilli, Keys to the Hidden Mysteries, 1992, private, soft, 414 pages $12.00
Because the clear and simple gospel of Jesus Christ has been twisted and distorted, mankind has found it difficult to understand and apply it to life. Using the Bible and Book of Mormon, this book can help readers find the keys to the mysteries of life, death, and life beyond death. [Note: This is the first of a series of five books by the authors.]
• Howard, Richard P, Restoration Scriptures, 1969, hard, 278 pages $5.00
This is a study of the development of the Book of Mormon, Inspired Version of the Bible, and Book of Doctrine and Covenants. It traces the original manuscript materials and the historical context in which they became the Scriptures that we use today.
A 20% discount is given on these and all other used books (offer good through 12-31-18). Go to Oldbookman.us to see lists of RLDS books and make your selection. E-mail to PaulVLudy@gmail.com or call Paul at 816-210-8450 for information or to order.

Team Jesus - Coat and Jeans Drive
Dear, Saints,
Friends of mine, Yvonne and Brian Carline, have a mobile ministry to serve the homeless called Team Jesus. See the attached notice for a winter coat and jeans drive October 1st. There are listed several collection points. If you have coats and winter clothing to spare, this is a good place to take them.
Also, please pray for this incredible ministry. Team Jesus is seeing amazing results in the homeless camps, as they do their long term work on site in the camps. Lives are being transformed, one by one, and each life that comes out turns around and helps another lost soul find his or her way out.
Team Jesus is in several cities now and growing.

---------- Forwarded message ---------

Francis Harper Message for 9/21/2018
Dear Ones,
We have been told to preach nothing but repentance to this generation. “Say nothing but repentance unto this generation” (Doctrine & Covenants 6:4-b). Before we can repent and change our ways we need to identify our sin or sins. We need to admit we have a problem. As in an Alcoholic Anonymous meeting in which each person introduces themselves by giving their name and saying, “I am an alcoholic.” Our sins need to be identified and admitted. My name is Francis Harper and I am a sinner.
First, we need to ask the Holy Spirit to penetrate our hardened hearts, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Evidently Paul’s heart was touched by the Spirit which caused him to say, “O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?” (Romans 7:24-26). Isaiah answered Paul’s question when he prophesied of Jesus: “. . . he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities . . . and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
We are very good at covering up our sins and even denying them. Jesus said we can see the smallest sin of others and cannot see even the larger ones of our own. “Again, how canst thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote [small particle] that is in thine eye when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? . . .” (Luke 6:42).
Some of the behaviors that are specifically mentioned as being sinful in the Scriptures are no longer considered evil by many in our country today. The statistics compiled by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, and others in 2008, revealed the following percentages of adults who approve of the behaviors listed: gambling 61%, adultery 42%, fornication 60%, abortion 45%, pornography 38%, profanity 36%, drunkenness 35% and homosexuality 30%. 51% of mainline clergy support the legality of abortion, 65% of clergy support same sex marriage, 57% of Christians do not believe that Satan exists, only 42% are certain that God exists. Periodic updates since 2008 indicate the decline in moral values are declining at a rapid rate. We are rapidly becoming an “I’m ok, you’re ok,” society.
I am deeply concerned when I observe many of those I sincerely love, becoming involved in some of the sinful things listed, without recognizing they are endangering their immortal souls and salvation! I become very frustrated when I see their peers applauding them for their courage in taking a stand against what the Scriptures clearly teach as sin. As a result great multitudes of people live without the least conviction of the sins they are committing!
When people do not consider their sinful behavior as sin, they do not recognize their need to repent and in their blindness they do not repent! And if they do not repent God cannot forgive them! God never violates our freedom to choose.
Our lives can become a slippery slope. Choosing anything but complete obedience to the word and will of God, is the first step toward moral decay. We need to pray daily: “. . . suffer us not to be led into temptation, but deliver us from evil” (Matthew 6:14IV). “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished” (2 Peter 2:9).
“And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold Satan hath desired you, that he may sift the children of the kingdom as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith fail not: and when you are converted strengthen your brethren (Luke 22:31-32).
Jesus prayed for Peter. He will also pray for us, if we ask, “Lord, Pray for me.”
My Love to All,

“Open My Eyes, Lord”
There are two kinds of blindness; physical and spiritual. Which is worse? Most of us are afflicted with some degree of spiritual blindness, if not cured, may cause us to lose our immortal souls!
Jesus was speaking of spiritual blindness when he called the Pharisees “blind leaders of the blind.” He added: “If the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch” (Matthew 15:13-14). These words of Jesus on spiritual blindness are still appropriate for us to consider today.
Jesus promised that after his departure he would send us the Holy Spirit: “I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin . . . when he the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all truth; for he will not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak; and he will show you things to come.” (John 16:7-13).
In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul spoke of the Spirit as a sword: “. . . take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:17). “For the word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of body and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight; but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do” (Hebrews 4:12-13).
Blindness will be removed from our eyes if we abide in the presence of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Our spiritual eyes will be opened if we diligently study his word.
Paul walked in darkness: physical and spiritual, until Ananias placed his hands upon him and prayed. Immediately scales fell from his eyes and he was “filled with the Holy Ghost” (Acts 9:17-18). The Holy Spirit awakens us to a “lively sense” of our sins. See Mosiah 1:83-84.
David and his son Solomon were guilty of some of the most abominable sins! David repented and was forgiven. Solomon did not repent. It is written: “And his heart (Solomon’s) is become (wicked and sinful) as David his father: and he repented not as did David his father, that I may forgive him” (1 Kings 11:33). How could Solomon who was known for his great wisdom, “neglect so great (a) salvation (Hebrews 2:3-4). Billions of people on the earth today are following in the footsteps of Solomon!
Why did Solomon “not repent as did his father.”? Most likely it was because the Holy Spirit was not present in his life to awaken him from his spiritual blindness! Solomon’s seven hundred wives, princesses and three hundred concubines had “turned away his heart” from God (1 Kings 11:3). Likewise billions today are not aware of their sins and of their need to repent and ask the Lord to forgive them.
David had a humble and contrite heart. He prayed: “Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving kindness; according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions . . . Cast me not away from thy presence; take not thy Holy Spirit from me . . . my transgressions; and my sin is ever before me” (Psalm 51). David’s spiritual eyes had been opened by the Holy Spirit. He acknowledged his sins, repented and was forgiven.
We need to pray as David; “Cast me not away from thy presence; take not thy Holy Spirit from me.” Open my eyes, “that my sin may be ever before me.” Seeing our sins will create within us humble, contrite and penitent hearts. “. . . a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise” (Psalm 51:17). Most of us have not committed greater sins than David! When he saw the depths of his sins, he truly repented and was forgiven. This should give us the blessed assurance that when we see our sins and truly repent, we will also be forgiven. Open our eyes, Lord!

Friday Night Joseph Smith Papers continued
Monday was great! The focus was on the New Jerusalem, the Center Place of Zion.
This Friday night, September, 21st, again, the two scholars from Joseph Smith Papers Project will be speaking on the "Character of the Prophet Joseph Smith, Jr." at 7:00 PM.
Friday is scheduled to be at the Visitors Center, but since there were over 300 people tonight at the LDS Stake Center, (705 W Walnut, Independence, MO 64050) President Cato will be contacting the Visitors Center tomorrow morning to suggest it be moved to the Stake Center, cultural hall, casual dress so all can be accommodated.
I'm suggesting you head to the Stake Center first located at 705 W Walnut, Independence, MO 64050. You will most likely know by all of the cars in the lot.
Hope to see you this Friday night as we bask in the character of our beloved Prophet Joseph Smith, Jr.!

Important Family Home Evening
This Monday, September, 17th, we are having a family home evening at the LDS Stake Center, 705 W Walnut, Independence, MO 64050
It will begin at 7:00 p.m. We have the opportunity to have two individuals, who have been involved with the "Joseph Smith Papers", in Independence. They will present the character of Joseph Smith and the importance of Independence as the Center Place.
What a marvelous opportunity to hear from individuals who have studied and know the prophet Joseph. I know this is last minute but we just found out they would be here. It will be in the cultural hall, so Sunday dress is not required. This is well worth our efforts. See you Monday night.

5G and possible health concerns

5G and possible health concerns
Hello,
Many of you may know that there is evidence showing increased health risks related to EMF exposure or Electromagnetic Frequencies specifically from cell phones and internet technology. I am concerned, with many others of the rise in health issues and risks that may be experienced with the deployment of 5G technology. Yes, it will provide us with faster data, but I believe it will be at a cost that we will see in our health and the health of our loved ones, from infants to elderly. If 5G is deployed in our area no one will be exempt from the added radiation exposure that 5G carries with it. If you are concerned about the possible health risks, please join me in quiet support at the Independence City Council Meeting, Monday, September 17 at 6:00pm as I share my findings and concerns with Independence City Council.
If you have any questions or comments, please facebook private message me or email me at:
