Francis Harper Message for 11/30/2018
Dear Ones,
I was impressed with the recent letter from Andrew Strom and his thoughts on restoration. He is not the only one who has recognized the need to return to what some have called the Old Jerusalem gospel; the unadulterated gospel of the Kingdom.
There are more than 100,000 denominations, or versions of the gospel being taught and embraced as truth on the earth today. It has become a mass of confusion. Jesus prayed that his believers would all be one “that the world may believe that thou hast sent me” (John 17:21).
In the early spring of 1820, Joseph Smith, Jr., at age 14, went to the woods to pray. He was confused as to which of all the denominations was right and which he should join. He wrote: “at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong” (Joseph Smith Tells His Own Story, page 6).
Two personages appeared to him in a vision similar to that of Stephen, the first Christian martyr (Acts 7:55-56). “One of them spake unto me, calling me by name, and said, (pointing to the other) This is My Beloved Son, hear Him.” Joseph asked: “which of all the sects was right. I was answered that I must join none of them . . . they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me; they teach for doctrine the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof” (Ibid: page 5-6).
Later Joseph was told by an angel that God had a work for him to do, and his name should be had for good and evil, among all nations, kindreds and tongues; or that it should be both good and evil spoken of among all people” (Ibid, page 11). Joseph’s work was to restore the gospel to the earth as it was in the beginning. This work was inaugurated on April 6, 1830.
Joseph was not the only one told not to join any of the many Christian denominations. When Bakht Singh, foremost Christian evangelist and church planter in India of the 20th century, surrendered his life to the Lord on April 4, 1932, he heard a still, small voice saying to him, I accept you for my service on three conditions; 1) withdraw all your claims to your father’s property, 2) Do not join any society [denomination of Christianity] but serve all people equally, wherever I send you, 3) Do not make your own plans, but let me lead you daily. (Koshy, T.E.. Brother Bakht Singh of India.OM Books. Secunderabad, India. 2003. 113, 137).
The church restored to the earth on April 6, 1830, was the church of Jesus Christ in its original pristine form. But it too has become “a tangle of God’s ideas and man’s ideas all mixed together,” with the exception of a faithful remnant “whose numbers were few and their dominions small. Nevertheless, the church of the Lamb of God who were the saints of God were also upon all the face of the earth.” See 1 Nephi 3:226-228.
On June 16, 2003, I shared this testimony with Ram Baral: “I believe the Restoration Branch Movement is the best depository of the gospel on the earth today.” I was puzzled by the word depository (a place of safe-keeping). I had never used it in this context before. The Holy Spirit had prompted me to utilize this word. Our Nepalese brother, Ram Baral, was baptized three months later on September 20, 2003. Three years later during the long journey to Kathmandu, Nepal, I read on page 89 of the book Nepal and the Gospel of God: “In the early days after Christ’s resurrection and ascension, the disciples called this message the Deposit and the good news. In the Lord’s own creative way, he had confirmed the truth; The gospel of Jesus Christ as it is taught in the Restoration Branches is the best version of the “everlasting gospel” on the earth today. See Revelation 14:6.

Restoration
This message on Restoration was prompted by some thoughts written by a non-Restorationist, Andrew Strom, who lives in New Zealand. He wrote: “Imagine a massive slab of rock, which is like the foundation that the original apostles laid in the early church. Then imagine 2000 years worth of all kinds of structures being bolted onto this foundation; a huge hodge-podge of structures that has taken many hundreds of years to erect; a tangle of God’s ideas and man’s ideas all mixed together.
“What we need to do, in essence, is to take a bunch of bulldozers and a wrecking crew and scrape this huge unwieldy tangle off the rock, so we can see the original foundation underneath; in its original pristine form. “And what do we find when we get back to the original thing? We find love and freedom and simplicity of the most rare and precious kind. We find a group of people without pretension who loved God and each other with all their hearts.
“These people did not have to worry about church boards, seminaries, building funds, denominations, creeds, rituals, TV preachers. None of these things had been invented yet. These people simply loved God and loved each other. And everything else flowed out of that. There was a child-like quality to their Christianity that we need to get back to. And if we are willing to leave the ‘junk’ behind I think we can.
“Just imagine for a moment that a group of people could be found who walked with God with a pure heart. Imagine the love, joy and peace that these people could walk in if they forget all the stuff of man and simply focused on Him.
“Man has a deep longing to see a people who live in true harmony and love. This is the essence of what was lost in Eden. And we all have an inbuilt longing to return to it somehow. If people ever see the real thing, they will surely respond.
“In all his dealings with men, what God has really been wanting to re-establish is His simple yet profound relationship with Adam in the garden. This was when the two of them walked together in the ‘cool of the evening’, communing with one another like the closest of friends. God has wanted to see this relationship restored, and through Jesus there is a way.”
I believe Andrew Strom has caught a glimpse of the vision of Enoch, the seventh from Adam, who prophesied: “Behold the Lord cometh with ten thousand(s) of his saints” (Jude 1:14, Revelation 1:7). “And the Lord said unto Enoch, as I live, even so will I come in the last days, in the days of wickedness and vengeance, to fulfill the oath which I made unto you concerning the children of Noah; . . . that a remnant of his seed should always be found among all nations, while the earth shall stand” (Genesis 7:58 IV). “And the day shall come that the earth shall rest . . . And great tribulations shall be among the children of men, but my people will I preserve. . . . And righteousness and truth will I cause to sweep the earth . . . to gather out mine own elect from the four quarters of the earth unto a place which I shall prepare . . . and it shall be called Zion; a New Jerusalem. Then shalt thou and all thy city meet them there” (Genesis 7: 67-71 IV).
The restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ is not the ultimate restoration the Lord is seeking. He has said: “This is my work and my glory to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man” (Doctrine and Covenants 22:23-b). Each of us need to be restored to the innocence of our childhood, “for of such is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 19:14).
“Marvel not that all mankind, yea, men, and women, all nations, kindreds, tongues and people, must be born again; yea, born of God, changed from their carnal and fallen state, to a state of righteousness, being redeemed of God, becoming his sons and daughters; and thus they become new creatures; and unless they do this, they can in no wise inherit the kingdom of God” (Mosiah 11:187-188).

Around and About the Centre Place
by High Priest Paul J. Gage, Independence, Missouri..
"Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6. "...and they shall call his name Emmanuel, (which being interpreted, is, God with us." Matthew 2:6 IV. These scriptures among the many others are God's word to man. In today's world, maybe more than at any other time in history, mankind is turning away from anything and everything that has to do with God, religion, or simply natural vs unnatural, or good and bad. If a person does not want to believe in God or that we are bound to follow God's commandments, they just say, "I don't believe in a God, if there is one." In Genesis 5:4 in the Inspired Version, it reads, "But, behold, also Cain hearkened not, saying, Who is the Lord, that I should know him?" In Jacob 5:23, in the Book of Mormon, Jacob has been challenged by Sherem to give him a sign. Jacob answers by saying, "What am I , that I should tempt God to shew unto thee a sign, in the things which thou doest knowest to be true?" Like Sherem, many people of our time, at least know about God, but because they (we) want to do our own thing, our own way, we say, "There is no God." Many, like Sherem and even Satan wrest the scriptures to make them read as they wish they would read. The word, "wrest" is found in the scriptures, at least five times, Exodus 23:2 and 6; Deuteronomy 16:19; Psalm 56:5 and II Peter 3:16. Peter especially hits the mark, when he says, referring to some of Paul's writings, "As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to be understood, which they who are unlearned and unstable, wrest, as they do also the other scriptures unto their own destruction." Wresting the scriptures means to twist, turn, change, or alter it to say what you want it to say. A young daughter once asked her mother why the temple in Independence, Missouri was "twisted." The mother's response is a classic. She said, "When you twist (wrest) the truth, you twist (wrest) the temple." A number of the "factions," from the 1830's up to today, have taken a scripture given to the Church, at large, and wrested them, trying to make them apply to a small group over here, or a small group over there. In Deuteronomy 17:14-20, we find directions given to the king, in regards to knowing and keeping God's word. The king was to copy the law for himself, keep it, and read it daily as long as he lived. How many times do we "take for the gospel truth" what someone else says? In Mosiah 1:3-12, King Benjamin explains why the written Word of God is so vital to each of us individually and all of us collectively. Without the Word of God, that is the scriptures we have and the plates they had, we would dwindle in ignorance and unbelief. That is also why it so important that we teach and train our children in the Word of God and the way they should go. As always, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is our ultimate example. In every situation, He was guided by the instructions given to Him by His Father. This is shown clearly in Matthew 4:1-10 when, after having been led by the Spirit, into the wilderness to be with God, and fasting for 40 days and nights, and had communed with God, was left to be tempted of the devil, Jesus, in all three temptations, used the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, when He said, "It is written...." We must know the Word of God well enough so that at every encounter with the adversary or those who work with the adversary, we will know how to use the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God, as we are told in Ephesians 6:17. Remember also, that often, the adversary's helpers are wolves among the sheep. As Jesus responded in the first temptation, "It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Amen and Amen! The importance of God's Word is especially vital to us at this time of year, when we remember the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jesus was designated from before the foundation of the world, to come into the world in the meridian of time in order to save us from our sins. From Genesis to Isaiah to Micah to Matthew, Luke and John to Helaman 5 and Third Nephi and other scriptures we see the promises of God. Though mankind has and is doing everything they can to offset God's plan, they can't do it. God's Word stands sure, just like the Solid Rock. Many Christians often wonder just how they should, or if they should observe or celebrate Christmas. As with all things, Jesus Christ must be the center of our focus. The following is something I found on a web site. I do not vouch for it as such, but it has a good thought. The Savior’s birthday. Even though Christmas for the Saints in Nauvoo seems to have been very different from Christmas today, the purpose was the same—to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. And few men understand the glory of that birth as did the Prophet himself. For Joseph had seen the Savior, “even on the right hand of God,”
and had borne witness through personal knowledge “that he lives” (DC 76:3 a-g). Waldo Avenue Restoration Branch Outreach Ministry Waldo Avenue Restoration Branch (WARB) has been an integral part of Center Place Restoration School (CPRS) since its inception in 1991-92. At that time, the Independence, Missouri City Council required that there be a church along with the school. That is the way it was before the facility was purchased by Saints of the Restoration. WARB was thus founded to support CPRS. CPRS enrollment is up for the third year in a row.
WARB has been involved in ministry, beyond the branch for many years. WARB sponsors a Mission at the Groves, which used to be called Resthaven. A worship service is provided each Sunday afternoon at 3:30 pm. The current pastor of the Mission is Elder James Loumiet from WARB. Several other branches and ministers, from around the Center Place help provide the services and many people are involved in helping transport residents to the services. Annual Give-A-Way Projects. Each year, in the fall and in the spring, WARB sponsors give-a-way events to help those who have need of clothing, and various other items. In the fall, it is geared more toward winter items and in the spring, general items. WARB is also hosting the Restoration Chorale Christmas Program on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at 6:00 pm. This may be live streamed and well worth the watching. The Missionary groups are all busy planning mission trips for 2019. Trips are planned for Australia, Africa, England, Germany, India, Nepal, the Philippines and possibly other areas. The Conference of Restoration Elders (CRE) and Pastors of Zion are in the beginning stages of planning for the June 23-28, 2019 Restoration Branch Family Reunion and CRE. Others can have their "Happy Holidays," and "Season's Greetings," I will thankfully say,
"MERRY CHRISTMAS!" and thank you God for your Great Gift to Us.

Riches From The Scriptures. by Elder Neil Kerswell, Queensland, Australia. Volume 3. Chapter 23 Christmas Thoughts 2018
It’s almost that time of year again when people all over the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. I have pleasant memories of this happening as far back as I can recall. It was always a joy throughout my childhood and still is at 51 years of age. Some people over the years have put forth theories and understandings that the timing of Christmas is wrong and that December 25th is a manmade event. I must admit I have seen great merit in what has been presented on this matter, however I have no desire to get hung up on it. I think it is marvelous anytime that people think about Christ, and especially if they want to worship. It’s a time when we may find opportunity to witness of the goodness of Christ to neighbours, friends and relatives. A time to show kindness at the various events we may be invited to. It’s a time for unity, peace and goodwill. I love how the Christmas Carols are always sung with a special joy and gusto, the meanings of some of the Christmas hymns are actually very deep and meaningful. Those people who wrote many of them were truly inspired by God. I hope you enjoy some of the Scriptures I would like to share with you. Luke 1:26-52 Angel Gabriel Brings Mary the News – She is Chosen and shall bare the Son of God [Luke 1:26] And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God, unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth. [Luke 1:27] To a virgin, espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. [Luke 1:28] And the angel came in unto her and said, Hail, thou virgin, who art highly favored of the Lord. The Lord is with thee, for thou art chosen and blessed among women. [Luke 1:29] And when she saw the angel, she was troubled at his saying, and pondered in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. [Luke 1:30] And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found favor with God. [Luke 1:31] And behold, thou shalt conceive, and bring forth a son, and shall call his name Jesus. [Luke 1:32] He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David; [Luke 1:33] And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. [Luke 1:35] And the angel answered and said unto her, Of the Holy Ghost, and the power of the Highest. Therefore also, that holy child that shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
[Luke 1:36] And behold, thy cousin Elizabeth, she hath also conceived a son, in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her who is called barren.
[Luke 1:37] For with God nothing can be impossible. [Luke 1:38] And Mary said, Behold the handmade of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her. [Luke 1:39] And in those days, Mary went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda, [Luke 1:40] And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elizabeth. [Luke 1:41] And it came to pass, that when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb. [Luke 1:42] And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost, and she spake out with a loud voice and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. [Luke 1:43] And why is it, that this blessing is upon me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
[Luke 1:44] And blessed art thou who believed, for those things which were told thee by the angel of the Lord, shall be fulfilled. [Luke 1:45] And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, [Luke 1:46] And my spirit rejoiceth in God my Savior. [Luke 1:47] For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden; for behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. [Luke 1:48] For he who is mighty hath done to me great things; and I will magnify his holy name, [Luke 1:49] For his mercy on those who fear him from generation to generation. [Luke 1:50] He hath showed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. [Luke 1:51] He hath put down the mighty from their high seats; and exalted them of low degree. [Luke 1:52] He hath filled the hungry with good things; but the rich he hath sent empty away. What an experience to receive of God, and look at the quality of the character of Mary. It is easy to see why she was chosen and blessed among women. At Gabriel’s initial announcement Mary doesn’t understand what is being said to her, she is a little afraid, but very quickly comes on board and begins to grasp the message of God to her personally. There was about to be conceived in her a child whose life was a result of the Power of the Holy Ghost. The agency of God entering flesh and becoming man, who would be known as the Son of the Highest, and He would be called the Son of God. This would all be, because with God nothing is impossible. Listen to Mary’s reply (Behold the handmade of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.) We are told in scripture that the testimony of Jesus Christ is the Spirit of Prophecy. Look at how this so literally plays out in the lives of Elisabeth and Mary when they meet. Both of them are filled with the spirit of Prophecy and bring forth revelation to strengthen each other, and help us so many years later to understand, and as prophesied of all generations who would follow, we too call her blessed for the saviour who was born of her. Matthew 2:1-8 Joseph finds out and is kind! [Matthew 2:1] Now, as it is written, the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise. After his mother, Mary, was espoused to Joseph, before they came together she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. [Matthew 2:2] Then Joseph, her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. [Matthew 2:3] But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a vision, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife; for that which is conceived in her, is of the Holy Ghost. [Matthew 2:4] And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus; for he shall save his people from their sins. [Matthew 2:5] Now this took place, that all things might be fulfilled, which were spoken of the Lord, by the prophets, saying, [Matthew 2:6] Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, (which, being interpreted, is, God with us.) [Matthew 2:7] Then Joseph, awaking out of his vision, did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife; [Matthew 2:8] And knew her not until she had brought forth her first-born son; and they called his name Jesus. Joseph was a kind and understanding man, his initial thoughts when Mary was with child would have been something along the lines of why have you been unfaithful to me? However, even being confronted with this huge event with the woman that was espoused to him (a form of Engagement or Betrothal to be Married) Joseph had no desire to make a public example of her. He had made up his mind to put her away privily (Confidentially or in secret). This shows me something about the character of Joseph he had love like an ocean. God put Joseph’s mind at rest with an experience of his own with an angel telling him that Mary was a good woman and would make a great wife because a miracle had occurred in her of the Holy Ghost. Joseph was given the saviour’s name as “Jesus” and that he would save his people from their sins. This is so very important. The Jews, when they did look for a saviour were looking for a strong military Prophet/Leader who would deliver them from their enemies not
realizing that it was their own sin and falling away from the truth which had brought about their captivity and sorrows they were experiencing at the hands of the Romans. Looking forward in time, whenever Jesus taught them he was trying to get through to them of the major changes in attitude that needed to enter their hearts in order to be cleansed within and then comes the outward blessings once the temple is clean and filled with the Holy Ghost. Attitude is what still plagues us today. Will we see Christ and follow Him when he does the great things that Nephi tells us of? [1 Nephi 7:41] For behold, the righteous shall not perish; [1 Nephi 7:42] For the time surely must come, that all they who fight against Zion, shall be cut off. [1 Nephi 7:43] And the Lord will surely prepare a way for his people, unto the fulfilling of the words of Moses, which he spake, saying: [1 Nephi 7:44] A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. [1 Nephi 7:45] And it shall come to pass that all those who will not hear that prophet, shall be cut off from among the people.
[1 Nephi 7:46] And now I, Nephi, declare unto you, that this prophet of whom Moses spake, was the Holy One of Israel; [1 Nephi 7:47] Wherefore, he shall execute judgment in righteousness; [1 Nephi 7:48] And the righteous need not fear, for they are those who shall not be confounded. [1 Nephi 7:49] But it is the kingdom of the devil which shall be built up among the children of men, which kingdom is established among them which are in the flesh: [1 Nephi 7:50] For the time speedily shall come, that all churches which are built up to get gain, and all those who are built up to get power over the flesh, and those who are built up to become popular in the eyes of the world, and those who seek the lusts of the flesh and the things of the world, and to do all manner of iniquity; [1 Nephi 7:51] Yea, in fine, all those who belong to the kingdom of the devil, are they who need fear, and tremble, and quake; [1 Nephi 7:52] They are those who must be brought low in the dust; [1 Nephi 7:53] They are those who must be consumed as stubble: [1 Nephi 7:54] And this is according to the words of the prophet. [1 Nephi 7:55] And the time cometh speedily, that the righteous must be led up as calves of the stall, and the Holy One of Israel must reign in dominion, and might, and power, and great glory. [1 Nephi 7:56] And he gathereth his children from the four quarters of the earth; [1 Nephi 7:57] And he numbereth his sheep, and they know him; [1 Nephi 7:58] And there shall be one fold and one shepherd: [1 Nephi 7:59] And he shall feed his sheep, and in him they shall find pasture. [1 Nephi 7:60] And because of the righteousness of his people, Satan has no power; [1 Nephi 7:61] Wherefore, he cannot be loosed for the space of many years; [1 Nephi 7:62] For he hath no power over the hearts of the people, for they dwell in righteousness, and the Holy One of Israel reigneth. [1 Nephi 7:63] And now behold, I, Nephi, say unto you, that all these things must come according to the flesh. [1 Nephi 7:64] But, behold, all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people, shall dwell safely in the Holy One of Israel, if it so be that they will repent [1 Nephi 7:65] And now I, Nephi, make an end; for I durst not speak further as yet, concerning these things.
All my days I have seen men and women in the church looking for a man (part of the membership of the Church), who would do the great things that only God through Jesus Christ can do in our future. I was once one of them. We need to be like the wise men that looked for the star and sign of Christ’s birth. They trusted in prophecy and were reading the signs of the times prepared so that if it came in their lifetime they were ready and prepared to act and respond. I hope all reading this including myself will humble ourselves and look to Christ and give Him his proper place in our hearts and worship. Let us read about His birth. [Luke 2:1] And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all his empire should be taxed. [Luke 2:2] This same taxing was when Cyrenius was governor of Syria. [Luke 2:3] And all went to be taxed, everyone in his own city. [Luke 2:4] And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David,) [Luke 2:5] To be taxed, with Mary his espoused wife, she being great with child. [Luke 2:6] And so it was, that while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. [Luke 2:7] And she brought forth her first-born son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was none to give room for them in the inns. [Luke 2:8] And there were in the same country, shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flocks by night. [Luke 2:9] And lo, an angel of the Lord appeared unto them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were sore afraid.
[Luke 2:10] But the angel said unto them, Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. [Luke 2:11] For unto you is born this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. [Luke 2:12] And this is the way you shall find the babe, he is wrapped in swaddling clothes, and is lying in a manger. [Luke 2:13] And suddenly there was with the angel, a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying,
[Luke 2:14] Glory to God in the highest; and on earth, peace; good will to men. [Luke 2:15] And it came to pass, when the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go, even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord has made known unto us. [Luke 2:16] And they came with haste, and found Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. [Luke 2:17] And when they had seen, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. [Luke 2:18] All they who heard it, wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds; [Luke 2:19] But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. [Luke 2:20] And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things which they had heard and seen, as they were manifested unto them. What a joyous occasion for them then, what a joyous occasion for us now. It doesn’t matter when we are born in the history of this earth, the most important event that will ever relate to us is God making peace between us, his creation and Himself through Jesus Christ our Lord. Only through Him can we know a fullness of life and joy. The heavens sang so the shepherds could see and hear them saying Glory to God in the highest; and on earth, peace ~ good will to men. I mentioned earlier of the wise men preparing so that if the Star came to pass in their lifetime they could act, but what about the generations who came before them and managed to inspire faith in such things to a point where some were able to take part in this great event? Could we respond if what Nephi prophesied of Christ became apparent tomorrow? But if not tomorrow will your children be in a position to see and respond. This is the reason I started recording Riches from the Scriptures. I have taught my family all my married life till now. I hope to be alive when the great works of Christ in restoring his people to one fold and one shepherd take place in the manner Nephi describes. However if I am taken home before that time I pray my family and all God’s people everywhere will be inspired to act in a timely and appropriate manner discerning the signs of the times and being spiritually prepared to be a part of the great works of God. It is to this end, that I hope for you all, a safe and happy Christmas. This I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

by High Priest Paul J.

Early Elementary Teacher needed for an evening or Saturday class
I am developing a young child fire arm safety class that will go about 2 hours. I am looking for a K-2nd grade teacher to conduct the class. The teacher must be comfortable talking about fire arms. The focus for the young child will be “Don’t touch, Go tell an Adult”. This effort may be volunteer at first and hopefully a part time paid position sometime in the future. I anticipate a couple of two hour sessions a month; probably evenings or a Saturday.
Please email me your interest at the email below or text me. Thanks!

For about 20 years I have gathered books and tried to distribute them several ways. Many summers we have traveled to reunions in four, five, or six states. We mail books three or four times each week. And we often deliver books in the Independence area.
At present we have about 20,000 used RLDS books in stock. And we have produced more than 40 new books that are part of the RLDS tradition. These books contain a wealth of information, and we want to find good homes for them.
Please take a few minutes to read this page and then reply to let me know what you think. Thanks!
—Paul V. Ludy
NEW BOOKS NOW HAVE PREVIEWS
When we left our last reunion this summer, I knew I wanted to give that “hands-on” feeling to people who don’t get a chance to see and touch our books. I have been working for a couple months to provide previews of several pages for each of our new books.
It’s not quite the same as having the actual books in your hand, but it does give a chance to see the pages and get an idea if the books will meet your needs.
Please go to Newbookman.blogspot.com to see how it works. (If you forget the address of the website, you can google using “RLDS books”—adding “new” to narrow your search.) “Newbook” should pop up.

I WOULD LIKE YOUR HELP
1. If you would like to receive notifications from me about new books or services, please reply and ask to be on my new e-mail list. Reply to PaulVLudy@gmail.com NOTE: I do not intend to e-mail to you again unless you ask.
2. If you have friends who don’t use the Internet, please let them know that RLDS books are available. Many of the Saints don’t have a clue that they can order books so easily and have them mailed to them.
3. If you have read one of my NEW BOOKS and would like to recommend it to your friends, please send me a SHORT testimonial telling me what you liked about the book. I want to put several statements on the website—and want permission to use your name.
4. Yes, I am still buying RLDS books. So if you are cleaning out or downsizing—or have a friend who is—please let me know. I would like to see and make an offer for books that I need. If the books are a long way from me, we can handle selecting by phone. NOTE: I don’t need extra copies of books that no one wants.

Francis Harper Message for 11/23/2018
(Early because of Thanksgiving)
Dear Ones,
One of Brother Ram Baral’s favorite verses of scripture is Psalm 34:8: “Oh taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” Ram was born in Nepal, into Hinduisms highest caste. His father and forefathers were Hindu high priests in the royal palace. Although he worshiped Krishna and had studied the Vedas, Gita and several Hindu scriptures, he felt strangely empty of truth. He studied all kinds of religions. Finally after finding a Bible and studying about Jesus Christ in 1980, he was nourished by the good Word of God. His hunger for truth was at last being satisfied. He loves the Scriptures of the Restoration. He was baptized on September 20, 2003.
Jesus said: “Blessed are all they that do hunger and thirst after righteousness (and truth); for they shall be filled with the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 5:8). If we are not hungering and thirsting for the Lord and his blessed word we are facing spiritual starvation, or spiritual anorexia, which will eventually lead to spiritual death!
Most people are scripturally illiterate today. The words of the prophet Amos are appropriate: “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing (or reading and knowing) the words of the Lord; and they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it. In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst” (Amos 8:11-13).
Psalm 119 is a testimony of the goodness of the word of God. The Psalmists treasured the word of God. Psalm 119, the longest chapter in the Bible, is proof of this. Many of the 176 verses speak of their love for the written word. Verse 105 is one of the favorites: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Another is: “How sweet are thy words unto my taste! Yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth” (Psalm 119:103). Others I have noted are: “With my whole heart have I sought thee; oh let me not wander from thy commandments” (Psalm 119: 10). “I will not forget thy word” (Psalm 119:50). “Oh how love I thy law! It is my meditation all the day” (Psalm 119:97). “Order my steps in thy word” (Psalm 119:133). “I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil [prize]” (Psalm 119:162). “Thy law is my delight” (Psalm 119:174). “Great peace have they that love thy law” (Psalm 119:165).
As we become better acquainted with the Scriptures our love and appreciation of them will be increased and the Holy Spirit will bring scriptures to our remembrance to teach and guide us. “. . . the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (John 14:26).
As our knowledge of the Scriptures is increased our ability to bring counsel from the word of the Lord is enhanced. In her book, Father Ten Boom, God’s Man, Corrie Ten Boom wrote: Father always used the Bible when he counseled. He knew the needs of people are not sufficiently met by human philosophies. He always knew a Bible verse that precisely answered the need of those who came to him. I asked him once, “Papa, do you learn by heart every text that you think will be useful for counseling people?” “No,” he answered, “it is the Lord who gives me the words I need.” He mentioned Isaiah 50:4: “The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary . . .” (Father Ten Boom, God’s Man, page 75).
My Love to All,

Cling to the Rod of Iron
In a vision the Prophet Lehi saw a narrow path, and a rod of iron which led to a tree. . . “Whose fruit was desirable to make one happy. . . And as I partook of the fruit, it filled my soul with exceeding great joy (Nephi 49-52). And I saw numberless concourses of people, many of whom were pressing forward, that they might obtain the path which led unto the tree by which I stood . . . they did come forth and commence in the path. And . . . there arose an exceeding great mist of darkness, insomuch that they who had commenced in the path did lose their way, that they wandered off and were lost (1 Nephi 2:65-67).
“And . . . I beheld others pressing forward, and they came forth and caught hold of the end of the rod of iron; And they did press forward through the mist of darkness, clinging to the rod of iron, even until they did come forth and partake of the fruit of the tree. And after they had partaken of the fruit of the tree they did cast their eyes about as if they were ashamed.
“And I also cast my eyes round about, and beheld . . . a great and spacious building. And it stood . . . high above the earth; and it was filled with people . . . their manner of dress was exceeding fine; and they were in the attitude of mocking and pointing their fingers towards those who . . . were partaking of the fruit. And after they had partaken of the fruit they were ashamed because of those that were scoffing at them; and they fell away into forbidden paths and were lost (1 Nephi 2:68-76).
“And great was the multitude that did enter into that strange building. And after they did enter that building they did point the finger of scorn . . . but we heeded them not . . . For as many as heeded them had fallen away” (1 Nephi 2:82-84).
Nephi, the son of Lehi, was given the interpretation of his father’s vision: “. . . the mists of darkness are the temptations of the devil, which blindeth the eyes, and hardeneth the hearts of the children of men, and leadeth them away into broad roads, that they may perish, and are lost; And the large and spacious building which thy father saw is (the) vain imaginations and the pride of the children of men (1 Nephi 3:125-126).
“I beheld that the rod of iron which my father had seen, was the word of God, which led to the fountain of living waters, or to the tree of life; which waters are a representation of the love of God; And I also beheld that the tree of life was a representation of the love of God” (1 Nephi 3:68-69).
Clinging to the rod of iron; the word of God, has never been more important than it is today. Clinging to the Scriptures involves much more than carrying them around, or simply setting them on a shelf, or keeping them in a safe place! Clinging to them demands that we diligently study them and live by every word printed therein.
When Jesus was asked . . . “What is the sign of thy coming; and of the end of the world? He answered: “Take heed that no man deceive you” (Matthew 24:4-5). We are living in an age of deception. Multitudes are being misled; led astray. Jesus promised: “And whoso treasureth up my word shall not be deceived” (Matthew 24:39 IV).
Nephi wrote: “O that cunning plan of the evil one! O the vainness and frailties, and the foolishness of men! When they are learned, they think they are wise, and they hearken not to the counsel of God, for they set it aside, supposing they know of themselves . . . And they shall perish” (2 Nephi 6:57-60).
We need to heed the Father’s counsel: “wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: ye shall have eternal life” (2 Nephi 13:30).

Biblical Proof Number Ten
The Two Sticks will become One in our Day
"…The Lord says,…’they [the two sticks] shall be one in mine hand." –Ezekiel 37:19
Think of it!
Can you imagine a world where there are no Jews or Gentiles?! No Israelites or Christians?!
But a world united, full of God’s people - moving together in one accord, coming against the armies of Satan, destroying strongholds, tearing down principalities, while the glory of the Lord begins covering the earth as the waters cover the sea.
When the two sticks become one in the Lord’s hand, the Jews and Gentiles will join together.
The two houses, Israel and Judah, will become one.
What glory awaits us!
Listen to the Word of the Lord:
"…And it shall come to pass that the Jews shall have the words of the Nephites, and the Nephites shall have the words of the Jews, and the Nephites and the Jews shall have the words of the lost tribes of Israel; and the lost tribes of Israel shall have the words of the Nephites and the Jews."
What joyous news!
"…And it shall come to pass that my people, which are of the house of Israel, shall be gathered home unto the lands of their possessions; and my word also shall be gathered in one. And I will show unto them that fight against my word and against my people, who are of the house of Israel, that I am God, and that I covenanted with Abraham that I would remember his seed forever." - 2 Nephi 12:73-74
What prophetic news we share!
Each nation knows its writings best and each nation embraces each other’s scriptures.
Jews and Gentiles will embrace the Book of Mormon while Israel embraces the Bible.
Herein lies the power and beauty of the joining together of the two sticks: Their coming together will "Christianize" the Jews while the Church becomes "Jewish."
Both become united, moving under that same godly anointing, accomplishing what the politicians have longed for but have failed to produce - peace in the Middle East.
God’s Army at last conquers the earth - the Old and New World.
Soldiers of the Cross spread the fullness of the gospel to the Four Corners of the earth, and bring home to Zion the spoils.
One last thought…
Sectarianism Destroyed
As the Lord combines the two sticks and they become one in his hand, they who embrace the two sticks will perform the saving mission of Joseph of Old - who befriended his brethren and delivered them from a famine.
Joseph of Old is a type of the power of God destroying sectarianism, that awful spirit in our land.
Sadly, sectarianism has created a famine of love and forgiveness among God’s people, especially in America. America is the most sectarian nation in the world.
The world, however, will not believe the gospel totally, will not believe God sent Jesus, until the saints demonstrate unity and love in Joseph’s Land (John 17).
The Spirit of revival will crush denominations.
The two sticks coming together will destroy the famine, the isolation among the saints, thereby ushering in the fullness of the Gentiles on this continent.
What wonders lie ahead.
There we have it - 10 Biblical proofs of the Book of Mormon.
1. The Bible points to the New World
2. Other sheep shall hear his voice
3. A Hebrew nation here in America
4. Joseph’s descendants come to the everlasting hills
5. The everlasting hills
6. America is Joseph’s Land
7. America is "choice above all others"
8. The Bible prophesies of the Book of Mormon
9. Ezekiel’s prophecy of the two sticks
10. The two sticks become one in our day
It’s my prayer, you will ask the Spirit of God if these things be so and join on in reading this Stick of Joseph alongside us.

Biblical Proof Number Nine
Ezekiel’s Prophecy of the Two Sticks
The prophet Ezekiel looked into the future and foresaw two nations and two records would some day be joined into one.
The so-called "parable of the two sticks" deals with Israel’s division into two kingdoms.
"…The word of the Lord came again unto me saying, Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it.
For Judah and for the children of Israel his companions; then take another stick, and write upon it.
For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions; and join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand."
- Ezekiel 37:15-17
Ezekiel is prophesying the restoration of Israel in these last days.
The Hebrew prophets deplore Israel’s separation, which occurred because of wickedness (compare Zechariah 11:24). The day Ephraim (with 9 other tribes) broke away from Judah, became a turning point in Israel’s history (Isaiah 7:17).
Since that day, Israel has remained divided into two "houses," or kingdoms (Isaiah 8:14).
Isaiah calls the division of his people an "open wound" that the Lord will heal as his coming to the earth draws nigh (Isaiah 30:26-27).
The two sticks coming together in the end time is a wonderful Biblical pronouncement.
The Lord says, "…When…two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also" (2 Nephi 29:8).
Of course, the sticks are really books and nations "running together."
The Smith Bible Dictionary states:
"A book in ancient times consisted of a single long strip of paper or parchment, which was usually kept rolled upon a stick, and was unrolled when a person wished to read it."
Back to the testimony of the two nations "running together."
In his prophesy, Ezekiel saw that each of the two kingdoms was to have a record, or stick.
The record of Judah is easily identified as the Bible "…for Judah [the Jews], and for the children of Israel his companions…"
The record of Joseph [records of the Lost Tribes of Israel] is connected with the prophesied Book of Mormon "…the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows…"
Recall, that in Deuteronomy 33;13-16 that America is Joseph's Land.
The prophet Lehi, with whom the Book of Mormon begins, was among those originally from the northern kingdom who had come, or whose forefathers had come, to live in the kingdom of Judah, for he was a resident of Jerusalem.
His family came to the American continents and the record they kept is a record of the descendants of Joseph in this hemisphere.
The record of Joseph - the Book of Mormon - has joined the Bible to serve as a dual witness of the divinity of Christ.
These two books [the Book of Mormon and the Bible] become one in the end time. A dual witness.
Hosea prophesied a marvelous thing:
"…I have written to him [Ephraim] the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing." --Hosea 8:12
God wrote some wonderful and great things to Ephraim in the Bible, but he wrote even more wonderful (strange) things to him in the Stick of Joseph.
For example…
Ezekiel describes the stick of Joseph as being of a dual nature:
1) the record is to be "the stick of Ephraim," and
2) it must also be "…for all the house of Israel his companions."
Then Ezekiel adds that the stick of Joseph is to be "…in the hands of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows."
Ephraim, of course, was the leading tribe among the tribes which were carried away captive by Assyria and which are now known as the Ten Lost Tribes.
Ephraim’s descendants will lead the way in the last days.
Jacob, the patriarch, lay dying and gave the following blessing concerning the last days:
"…And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, ‘Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days." - Genesis 49:1
Jacob was speaking of our day, the "…last days."
In the last days a book will come forth "out of the dust" that will speak of the regathering of the 10 lost tribes of Israel preceding the Lord’s return.
The Lord will choose the tribe of Ephraim as his evangelists to begin the gathering.
The Book of Mormon will be "in the hand of Ephraim" first, then flow to "all the house of Israel his companions."
To the other nine tribes.
There’s a great possibility, if you’ve embraced the Stick of Joseph in these last days, you’re an Ephraimite - one of God’s end time evangelists chosen to proclaim the end time message.

Biblical Proof Number Eight
The Bible Prophesies of the Book of Mormon
"…And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying,
Read this, I pray thee; and he saith, I cannot, for it is sealed. And learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee; and he saith, I am not learned."
--Isaiah 29:11-12
Isaiah prophesied of the sealed book that was to become "the vision of all."
In late February, 1828, Joseph Smith sent Martin Harris to New York with a copy of the Book of Mormon characters.
He was to meet with Professor Charles Anthon, "a gentleman celebrated for his literary attainments."
The professor asked Mr. Harris if he would bring the plates so he could translate them.
"…I informed him," said Mr. Harris, "that part of the plates were sealed, and that I was forbidden to bring them.
He replied, ‘I cannot read a sealed book.’"
Obviously, an apparent fulfillment of Isaiah 29. The book is delivered to two men, one learned and one unlearned.
One a professor and the other a farmer’s lad with a 3rd grade education.
Joseph recognized throughout his lifetime that his education and knowledge were limited.
He must depend upon the Lord for understanding.
As a side note, though the theme of our essay is: the Bible witnesses to the Book of Mormon, the Book of Mormon also witnesses to the Bible.
For instance,
"…And the angel spake unto me saying, These last records [Book of Mormon]…shall establish the truth of the first [Bible]…and shall make known to all kindreds, tongues and people, that the Lamb of God is the Son of the Eternal Father, and the Savior of the world; and that all men must come unto him or they can not be saved…"
