Name Change - From All Saints Restoration Branch to All Saints Restoration Worship and Study Group

Dear Saints,

After further consideration and recognizing some of the challenges with establishing a virtual restoration branch, it was determined to call the effort to continue to offer ministry to our isolated brothers and sisters, the All Saints Restoration Worship and Study Group.

Elder Larry Cottrill will offer pastoral leadership to the group and several of us will support him as this new ministry is implemented.

We look forward to the ministry the All Saints Restoration Worship and Study Group will be able to provide to those who are isolated and others who may want to participate, opportunities for regular worship, classes, fellowship, and even home visits. We will share additional details concerning how the Worship & Study Group will function as they are defined. If you have any thoughts or questions concerning the Group, please email them to:

The Prophets - Part I Study Guide

For after much tribulation come the blessings. Wherefore the day cometh that ye shall be crowned with much glory; the hour is not yet, but is nigh at hand. Remember this which I tell you before, that you may lay it to heart, and receive that which shall follow. Behold, verily I say unto you, For this cause I have sent you that you might be obedient, and that your hearts might be prepared to bear testimony of the things which are to come; and also that you might be honored of laying the foundation, and of bearing record of the land upon which the Zion of God shall stand; and also that a feast of fat things might be prepared for the poor; yea, a feast of fat things, of wine on the lees well refined, that the earth may know that the mouths of the prophets shall not fail; yea, a supper of the house of the Lord, well prepared, unto which all nations shall be invited. Genesis 5:1-2 (IV)

"1 And the Lord God called upon men, by the Holy Ghost, everywhere, and commanded them that they should repent;
2 And as many as believed in the Son, and repented of their sins, should be saved. And as many as believed not, and repented not, should be damned. And the words went forth out of the mouth of God, in a firm decree, wherefore they must be fulfilled."

FASTING AND PRAYING FOR THE KINGDOM - May 30

FASTING AND PRAYING FOR THE KINGDOM

Greetings Saints and God's blessings be upon you.

With the many things going on, we see a greater need, every day, for God's Kingdom.

May we increase our efforts to assist in that Mighty Cause.

FASTING AND PRAYING FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD
The High Priests of the Restoration Branches as well as many other groups and branches have asked the Saints to observe each Sunday as a day of fasting and prayer. There are many reasons for asking the Saints to fast and pray. The ultimate objective, however, is for the return of Jesus Christ in His Glory and the establishment of His Kingdom (Zion) on earth.

Jesus is our chief example regarding fasting and prayer, as he fasted and prayed often, as indicated in the scriptures. In our efforts to grow spiritually, we always hear fast, pray, and study. So, what is fasting?

We understand "fasting" to be the practice of deliberately abstaining from food for spiritual purposes. Fasting is a means by which a believer brings his body into subjection. Fasting breaks down the barriers in man's carnal nature that stand in the way of the Holy Spirit's omnipotence. (All powerful) Pray about fasting before you start and plan your program.

The Book of Daniel is most interesting. It includes three times that Daniel fasted in different ways and one time when someone else fasted.

Daniel Chapter 1 What did Daniel purpose? How did he fast? What were the results?
Daniel Chapter 6 What did Daniel do? Who fasted? Anything else fast? Results?
Daniel Chapter 9 Careful study this prayer to God. What were the results?
Daniel Chapters 10-12 Who fasted? How? What were the results? Notice 10-12 are one experience.

We are one week closer to Christ's return than last week. Stay strong and hold fasting to the Rod of Iron.

Saints, keep up the great work!

God bless each of you in this time of trial and assist you in your efforts to come unto Him.

Paul Gage

Beryle Jean Immer Obituary

On Thursday, May 28, 2020, Beryle Jean (Clesson) Immer, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. The family will be having a private committal service with burial to follow at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery. Once the current restrictions have eased, the family will be having a public memorial service.

She was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on March 23, 1937 to George Guy Clesson & Blanche Ermal (Garrett) Clesson. She treasured the heritage of her family where she remembered sitting around the family dinner table with missionaries, talking about the truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She married Robert Glenn Immer on June 23, 1962 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and they raised three children: Joy Lynn, Michael Guy and Steven Frederick. Beryle was an accomplished woman: a Registered Nurse, educator and administrator with many talents. She received her Associate of Arts degree from Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, a diploma from the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital School of Nursing in Independence, Missouri, a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado and a Master’s of Education degree in Vocational Technical Education from the University of Missouri, in Columbia, Missouri. She worked in many areas of nursing - public health, obstetrics, operating room, education and administration to name just a few. She was the first public health nurse in Graham County, Arizona and was a public health nurse in Independence. She served as Director of the Jenny Lund Program of Practical Nursing in Independence, Missouri, worked for the Independence and Kansas City school districts and established the Park College Program of Professional Nursing in Parkville, Missouri (including satellite programs in Rolla and Sikeston, Missouri). She was named in “Who’s Who in the Midwest” & in “Who’s Who in American Nursing” in 1986 and 1987. She belonged to the following organizations: The National League for Nursing, the American Vocational Association, The Missouri Vocational Association, The Missouri Practical Nurse Educators, Missouri Project Aware and the RLDS Professional Nurses Association. Her talents include being an author, illustrator, musician, and small aircraft pilot. She is the author and illustrator of the book series, “And Jesus Said…” having published 7 volumes and had begun work on the eighth. The books have been carried by missionaries to Nepal, the Philippines and several African nations. She played the piano and organ beginning to serve her home congregations as a child, and continued to serve as Music Director and choral director of many congregations and church reunions. She obtained her pilot’s license to travel between Parkville and southern Missouri for her nursing programs, improving efficiency of her travel time, and to have a little fun too. Her passion was the love of her Savior, the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Restoration Movement. Most recently, she attended The Church of Jesus Christ, Lexington Restoration Branch. She loved sharing her testimonies of Jesus Christ and His goodness and provision during her entire life. She loved living on Happy Hollow Rd in Napoleon, MO, enjoying sitting on her deck or the tree swing looking over the lake, bird watching and looking for the ever elusive blue heron. She loved spending time with her family, travel, long drives in the country & attending church reunions all over the country. She was preceded in death by her parents Guy & Blanche Clesson, and her brother Darrell Clesson. She is survived by her husband, Bob Immer and their three children, their spouses and her grandchildren: Joy and Larry Cain and their children Emily Cain, Madelyn & Nicholas Clark and Jason & Amanda Cain; Michael and Windy Immer; and their children Miranda & Elijah Scott, Sophia Immer & Julianna Immer; and Steve and Alenda Immer; and a host of beloved grand-dogs, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was loved by many and will be missed by all, but will live on because of the influence she had in our lives and the legacy she leaves.

New virtual All Saints Restoration Branch and Link to Sunday Morning's Worship Service

Dear Brother and Sisters,

As many of you are aware, the Conference of Restoration Elders for the past couple of months has been sponsoring online Sunday morning and Wednesday evening worship services due to the shutdown of local Branches in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The opportunity to continue to worship together has been a God sent blessing for the many saints throughout the world who have participated in these services. Below are just a few examples of the many responses we have received.

- “It was truly a blessed service. I am very much looking forward to Wednesday and Sunday services in the future. Thank you!”

- “Thanks to all who put the services together. Please continue! I am thinking of other areas to send the invite.”

- “These services have truly been a blessing to us. Thank you for including us. I am so moved by everyone’s prayers.”

- “Thanks for having Wednesday night services! It was nice to be on my knees with the saints again.”

- “We haven’t been able to participate in a combined worship service for over three years because we are so remote. It has been so great to participate in these services together.”

As the final comment reflects, many who have participated are isolated, far from other restoration saints, and have no restoration branch near them. These dear saints have expressed their joy at being able to worship with others of like faith, and their desire to continue to have that opportunity. Now that many Branches have started to hold services in their places of worship again, we have reflected and discussed what might be done for those who have been participating in the services, but don’t have a place of worship near them.

In response to this need, the CRE chairman and coordinating council is excited to announce that we have decided to sponsor a virtual Restoration Branch, to be known as the All Saints Restoration Branch of Jesus Christ’s Church. This new branch will continue to hold online worship services Sunday morning and Wednesday evenings. We have asked Elder Larry Cottrill to be the presiding elder of the branch, and for now, Brian Mundy, Richard Neill and Vim Horn will function as the pastorate.

We look forward to the ministry the All Saints Restoration Branch will be able to provide to our isolated brothers and sisters for worship, classes, fellowship, and even home visits. We will share additional details concerning how the Branch will function as they are defined. If you have any thoughts or questions concerning the Branch, please email them to: allsaintsrestorationbranch@gmail.com

We invite all who want to participate, or to receive notifications of services and other branch events, to go to: www.eldersconference.org
and click on the link there to share your contact information. Or, use the following link to share it directly: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/AllSaintsContactInfo

This coming Sunday morning, May 31, the Branch will hold its first worship service. Elder Larry Cottrill will be presiding, and Elder Brian Mundy will be sharing the spoken word. Please join the service by using the following link:

Prophecies of the Lord’s Return - Continued

“And then his disciples asked him, saying, Master, tell us concerning thy coming? And he answered them, and said, In the generation in which the times of the Gentiles shall be fulfilled, there shall be signs . . . upon the earth distress of nations with perplexity . . . men’s hearts failing them for fear, for looking after those things coming on the earth, . . .” (Luke 21:24-26).

“And Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled” (Luke 21:23). Verily I say unto you, this generation when the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled, shall not pass away til all be fulfilled” (Luke 21:32).

Jerusalem was trodden by the Gentiles from AD 70 until June 7, 1967, a period of nearly two thousand years. We are living in the time of the final fulfillment of all things.

“Except those days should be shortened, there should none of their flesh be saved. But for the elects sake . . . those days shall be shortened” (Matthew 24:19 IV; 24:22 KJV).

“I tell you that he will come, and when he does come, he will avenge his saints speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8).

“And again, this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world, for a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come . . .” (Matthew 24:32 IV; 24:14 KJV). The gospel is being preached in all the world today.

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder . . . of the increase of his government and peace there is no end . . .” (Isaiah 9:6-7).

“For behold, he cometh in the clouds with ten thousands of his saints in the kingdom, clothed with the glory of his Father. And every eye shall see him; and they who pierced him, and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him” (Revelation 1:7).

“Even until all things shall be fulfilled, according to the will of the Father, when I shall come in my glory with the powers of heaven” (3 Nephi 13:18).

“Enoch saw the day of the coming of the Son of Man, in the last days, to dwell on the earth, in righteousness, for the space of a thousand years” (Genesis 7:73).

“But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words of the book, even to the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased” (Daniel 12:4).

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first; Then they who are alive, shall be caught up together into the clouds with them who remain [the dead in Christ] to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we be ever with the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).

“In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the sound of the last trump; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed” (1 Corinthians 15:52).

“Even so, come, Lord Jesus”
(Revelation 22:20).

Prophecies of the Lord's Return

Prophecies of the Lord's Return

Three Prophecies of the Lord’s Coming

During the years 2007 and 2008, two ancient prophecies were brought to my attention. I learned that in an ancient Buddhist prophecy it was revealed there would be only 14 Dalai Lamas [spiritual leaders of the Buddhists]. And according to a prophecy by Saint Malachy, who lived in the 12th century, there would be only 112 additional popes [spiritual leaders of the Catholics].

This information became of greater interest to me when I discovered that the current Dalai Lama is the 14th, and the present Pope Francis, who was elected March 13, 2013, is the 112th. If these prophecies are true, we have even more reason to believe the Lord’s coming is near, even at the door.

I believe it was no coincidence that this knowledge was made known to me at this time. God often arranges unusual experiences [sometimes called coincidences] in our lives to teach us valuable lessons and to prove how much he loves and cares for us. We should not be too quick to dismiss any of our experiences as being insignificant. We should evaluate each so-called coincidence that happens to us. It is especially important to pay attention when two or more of these happenings are related in some way. I am amazed at how the Lord reveals certain essential pieces of information to us.

I believe it was in 2007 that Brother R. C. Baral gave me a book entitled Visitor’s Guide to China. It was not of immediate interest, but when the Tibetans began to demonstrate against the oppression of the Chinese government in the early months of 2008, I decided to read about Tibet. On page 294 I read, “Today the Dalai Lama lives in Dharmsala, in India, in the foothills of the Himalayas, heading a community of forty monks and a kind of government-in-exile of the many exiled Tibetans. Unlike the previous Dalai Lamas, he has a wide knowledge of the world; is much respected, and has sent several delegations to Tibet and Peking (Beijing). His picture appears in many Tibetan households, and many long for his return. He is the fourteenth Dalai Lama, and it was predicted long ago that there would be only fourteen Dalai Lamas.” I wondered, how long ago was long ago? Was it 50 years, 100 years, or longer? And why only fourteen Dalai Lamas? Why Dalai Lama, Age 84 wouldn’t there be fifteenth, or sixteenth, or more?

I believe it was before I was given the Visitors Guide to China that I was given a book by my secretary, Lou Waite. She had purchased a box of paperback books at a garage sale. Included in the box she found a book written in the 1960’s by a Buddhist monk, Lobsang Rampa. This was shortly after the Chinese had taken control of Tibet. This book, The Saffron Robe, yellowed with age, did not personally interest Lou. But since I had traveled in the Buddhist and Hindu world of India and Nepal, she thought I might like to read it, so she gave it to me.

The book rested in the bottom drawer of my desk for many months, even years. Then one day early in 2008, I opened it and began to read. I had no intention of reading the entire book, but contrary to my expectations, the aged book was very interesting. I read the pages quickly in my eagerness to learn more about the life of a Buddhist monk living in the Potala Palace of Lhasa, a lamasery, home of a thousand monks! Then on page 135, I found the answer to my question of how long ago was long ago? I read: “I fell silent as I recalled the prophecies [Buddhist] which were made about Tibet centuries before (this meant these prophecies of “long ago” were given at least 200 years ago], and I knew that in our time, in my lifetime [Lobsang Rampa, 1910-1981] in fact, we of Tibet would have our own troubles [and they did have troubles when in 1959-1960 China took control of their country]. I knew also that our own Dalai Lama would not be of the same spiritual significance [this part of the prophecy has been fulfilled because the current 14th Dalai Lama had to flee from Tibet at the time of the Chinese takeover. He has lived most of his life in exile in Dharmsala, India].”

As I pondered upon the two books I had been given, both with messages pertaining to the centuries-old Buddhist prophecy of the 14th Dalai Lama being the last, I thought surely the Holy Spirit had arranged this. First, the Holy Spirit had prompted Ram and Lou to buy the books, and then by the same Spirit they were led to give the books to me! In addition, in the Lord’s timing, I became interested and read and received the messages he had chosen to give me in his own creative way.

As I went home to lunch that day, thinking of the significance of the 14th Dalai Lama being the last, I thought of another prophecy. I recalled reading the 12th century prophecy of Saint Malachy at a religious museum near our home. Saint Malachy was a canonized Irish Catholic Priest, who was born in 1094. In 1139, during a trip to Rome, Malachy was given a vision of the men who would be chosen to serve as popes in the succeeding generations to come. He was given a short resume of each, and the number who would serve in that calling. He was told there would be 112 more popes, and the final one would witness the destruction of the Catholic Church [which appears to be happening]. The vision of St. Malachy, who died in 1148, has never been fully accepted by the Catholic hierarchy, but after about five hundred Pope Francis, Age 86 years, many began to take note of the accuracy of his descriptions of the men appointed to the highest office within their church.

Pope Benedict XVI was the 111th to be chosen as leader of the Catholics since St. Malachy’s prophecy. He was described in Malachy’s vision as “the glory of the olive.” The members of the Benedictine order are known as the Olivetans.

I find it very interesting that both of these ancient prophecies predicted that after a specified number of their leaders had served, there would be no more. Considering the age of the present Dalai Lama [84], and the incumbent Pope Francis [86], two of the largest religions of the world may soon be without leadership. The estimated number of Buddhists in the world is about 360 million. The Roman Catholics claim a membership of 1.2 billion at the present time.

Could it be that these prophecies of ancient date, which have reached the prophesied number in our day, is signifying that these religious leaders will soon be replaced by the King of kings and Lord of lords? Surely, this information was made known to me for some reason. Why was it brought to my attention at this time? Was it just a coincidence?

The third prophecy is of a more recent date. Elder Joseph Burton of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was given a vision in late December, 1873, in which he was shown there would be only seven prophets to direct the church in the latter days, beginning in 1830. The following is an excerpt from The Seven Prophets of the Latter Days, written by Pamela Price, Vision 4, Spring of 1990.

“The Saints of one-hundred years ago were familiar with Elder Joseph Burton’s dream and vision which indicated there would be seven prophets of the Lord’s Church in the latter days. Brother Burton’s experiences are important to the Saints of today, for they indicate there will only be one more prophet of the church in the line of succession [of the Lord’s own choosing]. Although there have been additional prophets [presidents] named, they have not claimed to be prophets, nor have they been accepted as such.

Who will the seventh prophet be? When will he come? One thing we know for certain, he must be called of God. Some have suggested that the seventh prophet may be the Lord Jesus Christ himself. The Father was referring to his Son when he said in Deuteronomy 18:18-19: “I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren [the Israelites, specifically from Judah], like unto thee [Moses], and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall Wallace B. Smith speak in my name, I will require it of him.”

So, we are running out of Dalai Lamas, Popes and Prophets! The three prophecies I have mentioned coincide very well with all the prophecies of the Scriptures, which also point to the nearness of the Lord’s Second Coming.

When these prophecies are added to the prophetic words of Jesus and many others, we have even more reason to heed the scriptural warning:

“Let my disciples therefore take heed to themselves, lest at any time their hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day come upon them unawares. For as a snare it shall come to all them who dwell on the face of the whole earth” (Luke 21:34-35).

The Seven Prophets
1. Joseph Smith, Jr.
2. Joseph Smith III
3. Frederick M. Smith
4. Israel A. Smith
5. Wallace W. Smith
6. Wallace B. Smith
7. The Prophet like Moses (Deuteronomy 18:18-19)?

“Even so, come, Lord Jesus”
(Revelation 22:20).

Francis Harper Message for 5/29/2020

The Principle of Added Witnesses

God has utilized double and multiple witnesses to establish truth from the early days of recorded history. Joseph who was sold into Egypt by his brothers (Genesis 37:28, 36) was aware of this principle of divine revelation.

Joseph had established a reputation as an interpreter of dreams giving credit to God for his ability. He asked: “Do not interpretations belong to God?” (Genesis 40:8).

Two years passed and the Pharaoh summoned Joseph to come and interpret two of his dreams. And again, Joseph very humbly said: “It [the interpretation of dreams] is not in me; God shall give Pharaoh an answer . . .” (Genesis 41:16).

The Pharaoh’s dreams were of seven fat cows and seven lean cows that ate the seven fat cows. His second dream was of seven full heads of wheat and seven shriveled heads of wheat which consumed the full heads. Joseph prefaced his interpretation by saying: “The dream is one” (Genesis 41:25). The two parts of his dream [seven cows and seven heads of wheat] deliver one and the same message; Egypt would experience seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine.

The interpretation of Pharaoh’s dreams was: “Behold, there will be “seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt. And there shall arise after them seven years of famine” (Genesis 41:29-30). At this point Joseph explained the principle of the double witness the Lord has utilized, from the beginning, even until our day, to establish, or to confirm the truth of his divine revelations.

Joseph said to the Pharaoh: “And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass” (Genesis 41:32). This double witness was enough to convince Joseph and the Pharaoh to build grain storage facilities, some of which we visited during our tour of Cairo in 1991. See Genesis 41:33-36.

As a result of this double witnessed divine revelation and the subsequent response of the Pharaoh and Joseph, his “Prime Minister,” countless numbers of lives were saved. Even Joseph’s own family was spared. See Genesis chapters 42-46.

Gideon was called of God by an angel, to save Israel from the Midianites. “And Gideon said unto God, if thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said, Behold, I will put a fleece of wool on the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and if it be dry upon the earth besides, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said” (Judges 7:36-37). The next morning the fleece was wet and all around it was dry. Then Gideon asked for a second witness. He said: “Now let it be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew. And God did so that night . . .” (Judges 7:39-40). Gideon was convinced the Lord would help him lead the army of Israel to victory over the Midianites.

Jesus said: “. . . in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established” (Matthew 18:16). He fed a multitude of people twice [5,000 and 4,000] calmed the storms twice, and helped his disciples catch a miraculous number of fish on two occasions.

Surely the Lord would provide a second witness to support the most important message of all, the coming of Jesus with the gospel, as it is recorded in the Bible. The Lord has in fact given the world a second witness of Jesus Christ and his everlasting gospel. Ezekiel prophesied of this as it is written: “Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick [scroll], and write upon it, for Judah . . . and take another stick and write upon it for Joseph . . .” (Ezekiel 37:16). As Jesus once said, “And if ye will receive it, verily . . .” (Matthew 11:14-15), the stick of Joseph is The Book of Mormon, written by the descendants of Joseph, and the stick of Judah is the Bible, written by the descendants of Judah.

Nephi, a descendant of Joseph who came from Jerusalem with his family to the Western Hemisphere a few years before the Babylonian Captivity [586 BC], wrote: I beheld a book . . . a record of the Jews (1 Nephi 3:157-160) . . . And after it had come forth . . . I beheld other books . . . these last records [The Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants] shall establish the truth of the first” [The Bible] (1 Nephi 3:191-192). “In the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established (Matthew 18:16).

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Dear Ones,

God said: “I am the Lord, I change not” (Malachi 3:6). The Lord has utilized the principle of double and multiple witnesses on many occasions to confirm the truth of his divine revelations. We can expect him to continue to do this. He changes not.

It is written: “God speaketh once, yea, twice, yet man perceiveth it not” (Job 33:14). Sadly this is often the case. Alma wrote: “The Scriptures are laid before thee, yea, and all things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things that are upon the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion; yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form, doth witness that there is a Supreme Creator: and yet do ye go about, leading away the hearts of this people, testifying unto them there is no God? And yet will ye deny against all these witnesses?” (Alma 16:54-55).

Paul said we are left without excuse. “For God hath revealed unto them the invisible things of him, from the creation of the world, which are clearly seen; things which are not seen being understood by the things that are made, through his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).

How many witnesses do we need? Paul began his letter to the Hebrews with these words: “We are compassed [surrounded] with a great cloud of witnesses . . .” (Hebrews 12:1). A cross can be seen in the eye of the Whirlpool Galaxy by the powerful Hubble telescope. Similarly, a cross can be seen in the center of the protein molecule called Laminim by a powerful electron microscope. God is using these tools of science as double witnesses of the cross being the great essential for our salvation.

I recall my first cousin Marilyn Evers bringing her boyfriend, Jim Culter to our home in the early days of World War II. She wanted to introduce her friend to her grandmother and other members of the family. I was only eleven or twelve years old at this time. I was very impressed with Jim’s appearance, dressed as he was in his US Navy uniform. I was especially attracted by his cocky white cap. He married my cousin Marilyn, and they became the parents of 3 daughters. Jim was baptized and served in the priesthood for many years. He also served as pastor of the Walnut Park congregation of the RLDS Church in Independence, Missouri.

In 1973, during a prayer service at the Walnut Park Church, Jim saw Jesus walk down the aisle to the front of the church where Jim was seated. He asked Jesus two questions: “When are you coming?” Jesus answered, “Soon.” Next he asked, “What can we do to prepare?” Jesus answered, “Keep my commandments.” Jesus then turned and nodded toward the seated congregation and said, “These are my people.”

After Jim’s death in 1977, another of my cousins, Ron Smith, was asked to accompany another priesthood member [Lester Tankersly] in making a home visit. The wife in this home was an RLDS member. The husband was an elder in the Presbyterian Church. His wife asked her husband to share his experience of seeing Jesus walking down the center aisle of the Walnut Park Church during the Sunday morning prayer service in 1973.

This sacred event, supported by a reputable second witness should strengthen our faith, making it no longer faith, but knowledge. We can say with Peter: “We have therefore a more sure knowledge that we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ . . .” (2 Peter 1:19, 16). Where is room for doubt?

My Love to All,

High Priest Francis Harper

Genesis 5:1-2 (IV)

"1 And the Lord God called upon men, by the Holy Ghost, everywhere, and commanded them that they should repent;
2 And as many as believed in the Son, and repented of their sins, should be saved. And as many as believed not, and repented not, should be damned. And the words went forth out of the mouth of God, in a firm decree, wherefore they must be fulfilled."

Carrol L. Eklund - Obituary

Carol passed away peacefully with family present.

Carrol L. Eklund, 93, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, died Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at home. She was born in Fertile, Minnesota on October 7, 1926, to August and Martha (Fetting) Eklund. She and her parents and three brothers, Bob, Alan, and Ordean, gathered to Independence, Missouri in 1944. She never married, but enjoyed interacting with young families at church and within her own family. Her dream once she reaches heaven is to sit in a rocking chair and hold babies. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, first as a switchboard operator and then as an order writer, retiring in 1983. After retirement she enjoyed doing volunteer work, including: church (clerk), hospital (runner), and family business (filing for Consolidated Services insurance, and bagging and sealing for Wally’s Nut House).

She was a member of the South Crysler Restoration Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ (SCRB). Her strong faith in Christ set a good example for her family and all those she came in contact with. Over the years she enjoyed living at Twin Oaks Apartments in Kansas City, Heritage House in Independence, and finally John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit for the past eight years. She, along with family and current longtime friends, enjoyed her 90th birthday celebration in 2016.

Carrol was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bob Eklund and his wife Verla Vivan, her brother Alan Eklund, and her sister-in-law Patricia Eklund (Ordean’s wife).

Survivors include her brother Ordean Eklund and her sister-in-law Ina (Alan’s wife) Eklund, each of whom also live at John Knox Village. She is also survived by a number of cousins, as well as nieces and nephews Hope (Alan) Robinson, Susan (Charlie) Booth, Eric (Debbie) Eklund, Marlys (Duane) Chapman, and Aleta (Bob) Edwards; thirteen great-nieces and nephews; and eighteen great-great-nieces and nephews.

The family will be forever grateful to all of her caregivers from Nurse Next Door who allowed her to spend her final days in her own home, before passing peacefully and comfortably.

Family will receive friends from 9:30am-10:30am Wednesday, June 3, followed by a celebration of life at 10:30am, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. in Independence. She will be then laid to rest in Mound Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the SCRB-Oblation Fund, in care of Speaks.

Post COVID-19 Devotional

----- Forwarded message -----

lmichelethomas@msn.com

Post COVID-19 Devotional

In my capacity as Sunday school director and morning worship coordinator we are preparing a devotion to deliver the first time we are open for services at our branch. In the intervening time we felt perhaps we might share our thoughts.

We have heard statements such as “when things get back to normal” and “once this event is over” which have prompted some discussion.

These are concerning statements because life as we were living it before COVID-19 was not getting the kingdom built.

How are we going to live differently going forward? Or are we looking forward to participating in the same activities we spent our time, energy, and dollars on?

Is God our first love? Are we putting the establishment of Zion first in our actions, in every decision we make?

Are we working on having a closer relationship with him? Are we taking the Holy Spirit to be our guide daily?

COVID-19 shelter in place has been different things to different people. It remains a political tool for both sides of the aisle.

COVID-19 demonstrated through WHO, with their five changing definitions for a Corona case, and the CDC, with their three evolving definitions of a COVID-19 death, why we should not trust in the arm of flesh.[1]

We know from U.S. Intelligence reports the COVID-19 escaped from a Chinese bio-lab; we know a Chinese two-star general was dispatched from Beijing to the lab to investigate how it escaped. We know after her investigation some lab personnel no longer work there.

We know the Chinese government leveraged the outbreak to stop civil protests.

We know it showed up in early September, we know it arrived in Italy via the estimated 310,000 Chinese[2] workers returning from China after the Lunar New Year.[3]

We know COVID-19 although not man made has been altered by man. COVID-19 is not some divine plague – it is a very secular series of either accidents or deliberate acts – which one we will likely never know.

But just as Rahm Emanuel advised President Obama to, "Never let a crisis go to waste," God too can use events to meet his needs.

And just how has God used COVID-19 to meet his needs? COVID-19 is a wake-up call to prepare for the end times and a serious call to take further steps to as D&C Section 128, para 8b states “to be in the world but not of it.”

Because of COVID-19 we have come to believe "being in the world but not of the world" is more comprehensive than merely avoiding the evil aspects of society.

Being in the world but not of the world may also include reducing our dependence on the so called “grid.”

We have been working on providing food, water, lighting, and heating in the event we cannot obtain those items from stores or the power grid is not available. We are working on scenarios for what we will do should a situation arise that requires us to leave our home. Where will we meet as Tim works out of town weekly, how long will it take to arrive at the designated spot if we had to walk, what will I do with the livestock, etc.

Being in the world but not of the world includes eliminating or reducing our debt.

D&C 101 para 13 a and b “And again, verily I say unto you, concerning your debts, Behold, it is my will that you should pay all your debts...”

According to a Mar 23, 2020, published consumer debt study, total U.S. consumer debt is at $14.1 trillion, with an average personal debt of $90,460. That individual personal debt figure includes auto loans, student loans and credit cards. If mortgages are included the average personal debt raises to $137,879 which seems low until you think of all the people renting apartments in urban areas do not have mortgages.

Joseph Smith III said he and his brother went into debt to buy a farm outside of Nauvoo, and from that point he was never able to get himself out of debt which he said was a hinderance.

Elbert A. Smith said in his book, On Memory’s Beam, how the interest on his family farm in Iowa was many times more than the price of the farm.

He also refers to D&C Section 127 as a commandment to stay out of debt.

Despite the many advantages of a centralized institutional church, one advantage of independent restoration congregations is we control our debt and expenses.

Individually we can reduce exposure to social norms, reduce dependency on the grid and reduce our debt and bills; as a congregation we can reduce expenses.

A big challenge during and after this COVID-19 period is the communal aspects of us being in the world but not of the world. Revelation Chapter 18:4 “And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.”

John Chapter 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

I pray we will all seriously consider the changes we must each make in our own lives, for by coming out of the world, we will be better prepared to do the culminating work of the church - establish Zion. May the Good Spirit attend you in your efforts to come up higher and prepare for the work we have been called to do.

Michele and Tim Thomas

[1] The definition of "Covid-19 death" being used by the CDC, and by extension all other sources including the mainstream media, does not solely refer to deaths from or caused by "Covid-19." The CDC definition of "Covid-19 death" includes assumed and presumed cases of deceased persons not even testing positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus causing Covid-19. Since early March, federal and state officials have revisited the way they classify deaths caused by pneumonia, acute bronchitis, acute respiratory distress and other airway problems. COVID-19 has been listed alongside those conditions on some death certificates but not all. In March, the CDC issued interim guidance allowed for COVID-19 designations if the disease was assumed to be a contributing cause of death. On 3 April, the National Center for Health Statistics, issued an alert instructing those who fill out death certificates to categorize pneumonia deaths that cannot be traced to another underlying condition as presumptively COVID-19. Steven Schwartz, director of the national vital statistics division, wrote in the alert pneumonia deaths may have previously been misclassified if a test had not been conducted prior to death. "Increases in pneumonia deaths may be an indicator of excess COVID-19 related mortality," he concluded. Normal flu season is December and February but can last thru may. During the December - February period over 20,000 people died of flu in the U.S. The changes in cause of death have not been applied to flu deaths.

Class on Galatians by Jon Tandy

Recently, I have written a commentary on Galatians and turned it into an online class, “The Book of Galatians—A Key to Paul and the NT.”

I believe that Galatians is the key to unlocking the gospel as taught by the apostle Paul throughout all of his writings, which comprise about half the New Testament. I show that Martin Luther’s and other Protestants’ interpretation of Paul as teaching a “grace without works” is incorrect, because it misses the point about what “works” he was specifically referring to. In order to have a better answer to them, we need to more fully understand what Paul was actually saying. Yet, although we are not saved by the performance of righteous works, we can’t be saved without them. Salvation consists of becoming a new creature in Christ.

You can view the class on Waldo Avenue Restoration Branch’s Livestream site at the following links:

Galatians Class #1
Background of Paul and Galatians, and the key to Galatians using Paul’s allegory in Galatians 4.

Galatians Class #2
What was the “other gospel” that Paul was concerned about? How the first church conference and Paul’s conversion radically shaped Christian theology.

Galatians Class #3
Why is the Law of Moses a curse, how does it frustrate the grace of God, and contrast against the work of the Spirit?

Galatians Class #4
The Schoolmaster and the Heir – two seeds, two laws, two mediators, and two covenants.

Galatians Class #5
Bondage vs. adoption. What happens to a marriage covenant when one party dies? And how do they enter into a new covenant?

Galatians Class #6
Liberty of the gospel and the Spirit. Walking in the flesh vs. the fruit of the Spirit.

Galatians Class #7
Bearing one another’s burdens and becoming a new creature. Paul, James, and Martin Luther—friends or foes?

Galatians Class #8
Agreement between Paul and James. Fruit doesn’t make the tree, but the tree produces fruit.

Galatians Class #9
Sanctification is salvation, but whose righteousness is it? Paul’s final answer: become a new creature.

Along with this class, please see the following Book of Mormon Roundtable. This presentation goes into more detail about the fulfillment and end of the Law of Moses, and the fact that it was replaced by the New Covenant through Christ’s atonement.

The End of the Law and the New Covenant

Please add to the prayer list, Beverly "Nanda" Swinnerton...She has some health problems and needs to move to Independence, but she's 86 and is having a hard time leaving North Carolina. She wants to come here, but I think that she's afraid...and I don't know entire list of health issues, but she definitely has some and prayers would be greatly appreciated.

FASTING AND PRAYING FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD - May 23

FASTING AND PRAYING FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD - May 23

Dear Saints,

Things seem to be loosening up in many areas of the world.

However, don't let up on your efforts to assist in bringing forth God's Kingdom on earth.

See if you can find those four fasts and apply them to your own life.

We are one week closer to Christ's return than last week. Stay strong and hold fasting to the Rod of Iron.

Saints, keep up the great work!

God bless each of you in this time of trial and assist you in your efforts to come unto Him.

Paul Gage

Francis Harper Message for 5/22/2020

Preparation of the Bride

“Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to him; for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white; for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And he saith unto me, write, blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, these are the true sayings of God” (Revelation 19:7-9).

Jesus was asked, “. . . Master, tell us concerning thy coming? And he answered them . . . upon the earth [there shall be] distress of nations with perplexity, . . . men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming upon the earth . . . And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up and lift up your heads for the day of your redemption draweth nigh. And then they shall see the Son of Man coming in a cloud, with power and great glory” (Luke 21:24-27).

“For behold, he cometh in the clouds with ten thousands of his saints in the kingdom, clothed with the glory of his Father. And every eye shall see him; and they who pierced him, and all the kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him” (Revelation 1:7).

The day of the Lord’s coming will be a day of great joy for those who “hath made herself [himself] ready” (Revelation 19:7). But for many others it will be a day of great sadness.

Jesus taught the necessity of our preparedness in the parable of the marriage supper. An understanding of this teaching, will encourage us to prepare ourselves for this joyous occasion. “When the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who had not a wedding garment. And he said unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither, not having a wedding garment. Then said the king unto his servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take and cast him away into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen; wherefore all do not have on the wedding garment” (Mathew 22:11-14).

The Lord’s teaching in the parable of the virgins is a warning to members of the church who are not remembering the Lord and keeping his commandments “that they may always have his Spirit to be with them” (Doctrine and Covenants 17:22-23).

The wise virgins who were filled with the Spirit were ready when the Bridegroom came; “and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage; and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, Ye know me not. Watch therefore; for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of Man cometh” (Matthew 25:9-12).

The door is still open but we must know Jesus, intimately! Are we one with him and one with each other, as Jesus prayed. See John 17:21-23. We need to remember the Lord’s words: “Be one, and if ye are not one, ye are not mine” (Doctrine and Covenants 38:6-a).

The foolish virgins thought they knew Jesus. They only knew about him. They cried out to him, Lord, Lord, but he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, Ye know me not” (Matthew 25:11 IV). You could say, the foolish were not “on the same page” with the Lord. Knowing the Lord is being one with the Lord, in our heart, might, mind, and strength. “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:5). Jesus said: “Verily, I say unto you, it is not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, that shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven . . . and many will say unto me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name; and in thy name cast out devils; and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I say, ye never knew me . . .” (Matthew 7:30, 32-33). Do we know Jesus, or are we like the foolish virgins who only knew about him??

Those at the marriage of the Lamb will “be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white [washed in the blood of the Lamb]; for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints” (Revelation 19:8). “. . . for I the Lord cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance, nevertheless, he that repents and does the commandments of the Lord shall be forgiven . . .” (Doctrine and Covenants 1:5-f).

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Dear Ones,

I believe the consensus of the Restoration Saints is that Jesus will be returning soon, perhaps within the next ten years. I agree with this sentiment. Jesus said, “. . . of that day and hour no one knoweth; no, not the angels of God in heaven, but my Father only” (Matthew 24:43 IV, 24:36 KJV). Even though the day and hour of the Lord’s coming will not be made known, Jesus commanded his disciples to watch for the signs of his coming and said, “mine elect when they shall see all these things [fulfilled], they shall know that he is near, even at the doors” (Matthew 24:42 IV; 24:33 KJV).

Jesus said, “. . . the evil servant is he who is not found watching, and if that servant is not found watching, he will say in his heart, My Lord delayeth his coming . . . And that servant who knew his Lord’s will, and prepared not for his Lord’s coming, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes . . . For unto whom much is given, of him shall much be required” (Luke 12:54-57 IV; 12:47-48 KJV).

Saints of God, we have been given much. The signs of his coming have been fulfilled. His coming is near, even at the doors, as he said. Much will be required of us who have been so abundantly blessed. Are we the faithful and wise servants who are “watching to impart his portion of meat in due season” (Luke 12:51 IV)? The Lord promised: “Blessed be that servant whom his Lord shall find, when he cometh, so doing” (Luke 12:52 IV; 12:43 KJV). What will he find us doing when he comes?

A word of warning is in order for the bride of the Bridegroom; the church. When Jesus taught the Parable of the Virgins, he was describing the condition of the church in the day of his coming in glory. He is speaking to us: “Be ye also ready; for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of Man cometh” (Matthew 24:51 IV; 24:44 KJV).

I received a call this week from a brother of the church, who was speaking of the troubled and uncertain times in which we live. I reminded him that we who know Jesus are not without hope. Jesus gives us hope. I reminded him of the words of Paul to Titus: We are “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, jealous of good works” (Titus 2:13-14).

Ether was a prophet of the Lord . . . and he could not be restrained because of the Spirit of the Lord which was in him; For he did cry from the morning, even until the going down of the sun, exhorting the people to believe in God unto repentance . . . saying . . . whoso believeth in God, might with surety [with much assurance] hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God” (Ether 5:2-4).

Our hope is that we will be worthy to dwell with the Lord and the Saints in Zion, even as Enoch was translated with the saints of his day. “By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death . . . before his translation he had this testimony that he pleased God. Without faith it is impossible to please God . . .” (Hebrews 11:5-6). Jesus said: “I do always those things that please him” (John 8:29). Let us seek a testimony that we please God.

“The redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy and holiness shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away . . . for they shall see eye to eye, when the Lord shall bring again Zion” (Isaiah 51:11 IV; 52:8). And the Lord called his people, Zion, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there were no poor among them (Genesis 7:23). This will be happening soon. What a glorious future it will be for those who are prepared!

My Love to All,
High Priest Francis Harper

Dear Saints

What do fellow Christians know about our witness of the Book of Mormon? Have they heard us share its message? Do they sense our enthusiasm? If we were accused of promoting the Book of Mormon in our communities, would we be found guilty in a court of law or acquitted?

An exciting initiative is being launched regarding the magnum opus of the Restoration, the Book of Mormon. On September 22, 1827 Joseph Smith, Jr., retrieved the plates, from which he translated this remarkable record by the gift and power of God. September 22, 2020 has been selected as; Bring Your Book of Mormon to Work and School Day. All believers in the Book of Mormon are being invited to participate. Over the next 4 months this event will be advertised through the usage of billboards, YouTube, Facebook, and other social media platforms to both announce as well as assist the Saints, to boldly share and testify of the books message.

A new day is soon to dawn upon all believers in the Book of Mormon. This video is intended to encourage every Book of Mormon believer to begin boldly testifying of the power couched within the pages of this book, pointing men to Christ and His everlasting gospel.

Please visit our website at:
www.odessahills.com
for the details of each camp as well as our reunion. I have attached the reunion schedule for reference. We would appreciate early, online registration for all those who are planning to attend so that we can make adequate preparation.

We recognize that these are trying times in our communities and in the world with the Covid-19 pandemic that has brought disruption to all of our lives. Rest assured that our directors and staff are making special preparation to do what we can to minimize risks for participation in our activities.

Some special announcements that we wish to share:

If you’ve had any symptoms of illness or any contact with someone who has been sick, please do NOT attend in person
If you’re high risk or have preexisting health conditions, we recommend that you avoid additional risk and not attend in person
Our aim and goal in all kingdom building efforts is unity and not division. We are not going to mandate wearing of masks or gloves, but welcome anyone who feels more comfortable in doing so to come and to bring those with you. We would remind all in attendance not to pass judgement of others who choose to wear them or not wear them.
We’ll also be sharing lots of reminders around good hygiene, social distancing where possible, and likely constant reminding to the youth to not share food and drinks as they are sometimes prone to do
During the check in process, there will be health screenings by the camp nurse and a risk acknowledgement form to be signed for those attending reunion
There will be changes in meal service at reunion, to minimize how many are eating in the dining hall at one time and in how the food is served
For those who choose to commute and attend the reunion evening worship services, we encourage you to bring folding lawn chairs and to spread out in seating and to practice social distancing so as to minimize any risks to those who are staying on the grounds

We look forward to worshiping with you this summer as we focus on our shared journey along the straight and narrow path together, pressing on toward the tree of life (II Nephi 15:10).

In gospel bonds,
The CMRB Pastors
