Australian Restoration News May 2017

------ Forwarded message -------
From: Noel Rowlatt

Australian Restoration News May 2017

Around and About the Centre Place by High Priest Paul J. Gage, Independence, Missouri

A lovely G’DAY! and May day greetings to all the lovely Saints in Australia,

As they say, “Time waits on no man,” and here we are with one fourth of the year now history. In April, of course, we observed HIS STORY, the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ.

He is the only One who gives us strength, faith, and hope to go on in this life with all its turmoil, struggles, and uncertainties. I believe I can assure you that there is not one family on this earth that is not experiencing some kind of problem. Whether spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, family, marital, occupational, trouble in the church and out of the church, you name it, we each have a great need for the Lord in our lives. Paul speaks to this in 2 Corinthians 4:8-15.

In May, actually Sunday, May 14 is designated as, “Mother’s Day” It is observed in over 40 countries around the world and of course in Australia and the USA. The concept is to honor our mother’s by reminding them of our love and appreciation for all they have done for us, but hopefully we do this every day in some way.

Someone once said that, “God couldn’t be everywhere, so He created mothers.” Of course we know that is not true, because God is the Creator of all things and thus is everywhere all the time. Remember some of the scriptures in the “Father’s Love Letter,” that He knows when we stand up and sit down, how many hairs are on our head, when a sparrow falls to the ground, WOW! My mother was a great mother and handmaid of the Lord, but she couldn’t do all those things. At the same time though, mothers do have their special place in God’s plan for us, so we praise Him for our mothers. There are many mothers mentioned in the scriptures and many more we don’t know their names. There was Eve, Ruth, Hannah, Elizabeth, Mary, Sariah, the mothers referred to in Alma 26:56, 57, 95, and 96, Lucy Mack Smith and Emma Smith. What a tribute to those mothers! The origin of Mother’s Day in Australia is similar to the USA, but I’ll let you look that up for yourselves, if you don’t already know. I read that the Chrysanthemum is the traditional flower given to mothers in Australia and since it ends with “MUM”, that phrase has become an affectionate shortening of the word, mother, in Australia. So, HAPPY MUM’S DAY TO ALL THE MOTHERS OF AUSTRALIA!

In the Centre Place, there were many events and activities in April. A combined Sacrament Service was held at Waldo Avenue RB on Sunday, April 2, 2017. Over 400 were in attendance including eleven pastors from eleven Restoration Branches around Independence, The Holy Spirit was very present, which was attested to by various priesthood who had a part in the service, the special choir brought together for the service and a goodly number of Saints with testimonies of angelic ministry. Tuesday, April 4 and Thursday, April 6 were special “Church Heritage” services. The Conference of Restoration Elders Women’s Council held their annual Spring Retreat on Saturday, April 8. The missionary boards continue to function in the areas of their ministry as well as the Domestic Outreach Committee which ministers in Canada and the USA. Jack and Laila Hagensen and I will be on a trip from April 28-May 9 to Michigan, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Canada.

The annual Restoration Branch Family Reunion and Conference of Restoration Elders will be held June 25-30, 2017. Preparations are well under way for that. All we need is for some Saints from Australia to join us.

Centre Place Restoration School is completing its 25th year of operation with the end of the school year being May 26, 2017. New school board members will be elected in April and assume their duties on July 1, 2017.

Riches from the Scriptures Volume 03 by Elder Neil Kerswell, Brisbane, Australia

Chapter 4 “CHRIST, HIS KINGDOM,and the GOSPEL is the STONE”

Daniel 2:28-49 Great Image – Showing the Latter Day

[Daniel 2:28] But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;
[Daniel 2:29] As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter; and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.
[Daniel 2:30] But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.
Daniel 2:31] Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee, and the form thereof was terrible.
[Daniel 2:32] This image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass,
[Daniel 2:33] His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay,
[Daniel 2:34] Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.
[Daniel 2:35] Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them; and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.
[Daniel 2:36] This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.
[Daniel 2:37] Thou, O king, art a king of kings; for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.
[Daniel 2:38] And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.
[Daniel 2:39] And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.
[Daniel 2:40] And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron; forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things; and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.
[Daniel 2:41] And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.
[Daniel 2:42] And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.
[Daniel 2:43] And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men; but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.
[Daniel 2:44] And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.
[Daniel 2:45] Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter; and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.
[Daniel 2:46] Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshiped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odors unto him.
[Daniel 2:47] The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret.
[Daniel 2:48] Then the king made Daniel a great man, and he gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.
[Daniel 2:49] Then Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon; but Daniel sat in the gate of the king. Daniel showed unto King Nebuchadnezzar both the dream and the meaning of his dream which had troubled the King greatly, and he did this by the power of God and took no honour unto himself at any time. Ultimately this revealed that the Kingdoms of this world will come and go throughout the stream of time, overcoming and subduing the previous then falling to another. All these kingdoms would command great power in their day, having strengths and weaknesses.

God is more powerful and His Kingdom endures forever and shall ultimately destroy the kingdoms of the world. This is represented by a Stone cut out of a Mountain without hands which breaks the great image and all its corresponding parts/kingdoms. This shows us that a part of the whole Mountain, a Stone cut from the original Rock, something which was brought about without Men’s hands and worldly knowledge and ideas.

Something done by the hand of God would bring His Kingdom into this world. A light that shines in the darkness, thus destroying the world and its wisdom with light, truth and the faith to overcome the power of Satan and the grip he has on this world.

There was also a representation of the Sifting time which separates the Chaff from the Wheat. We are all in process of holding on tight to the Gospel because God allows his chosen people to be thrown up in the air from time to time, while the winds of false doctrine and change blow through and carry away those who are Chaff (not firmly grounded to the Rock). This helps strengthen the true Saints of God as they by faith and determination in our Lord hold true for another round of Sifting completed.

This also serves to gather the true believers into the Lords harvest and gathers the wicked into bundles ready to be burned at the end of this world or the end of the wicked. Light cleaves to light and darkness to darkness.

Micah 4:1-5 Mountain of the Lords House – Like Daniel 2:35

[Micah 4:1] But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.
[Micah 4:2] And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths; for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
[Micah 4:3] And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plough-shares, and their spears into pruning-hooks; nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
Micah 4:4] But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid; for the mouth of the Lord of Hosts hath spoken it.
[Micah 4:5] For all people will walk everyone in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the Lord our God for ever and ever.

In the first scripture from Daniel God revealed His Kingdom through Christ, or in other words a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, a part of God and His kingdom, himself revealed in reality and in a manner that we could understand, coming into this world by the will of the Father and not by the will of man, God revealing in the form of a man, God’s ways. Thus God’s light shone in darkness and the Kingdoms of the world, the ways of Satan were overcome for all who would receive it. This spread the Gospel or Good News of salvation throughout the world. The scripture from Micah reveals the kingdom of God gaining momentum, the stone from Daniel’s interpretation of King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream is rolling forth and breaking every sinful band, destroying the kingdoms of this world through the light and revelation of God revealed in the life of Christ.

The ways of peace and love are beginning to take root and making change amongst the people, even throughout the world. The hearts of the children are being turned to their fathers, ensuring they won’t be destroyed with the world, but rather receive of the promises God made to our fathers. Our fathers shall also take interest in us and be praying for us, revealing God’s ways to us. In time God promises we shall all be united and hug and kiss each other, fulfilling the words of the prophets. God shall be amongst His people.

The purpose of this Church (set up in the last days) was to prepare a people ready to meet God and fellowship with the Church of the First Born which was caught up into heaven (in Enoch’s day) and was reserved to come back in the last days. This is like when Moses wanted his people to be sanctified (made Holy), so that they could come up into the mountain and meet God face to face (they failed and asked Moses to go up in their place). God has asked us through the Prophet Joseph Smith Junior many years ago to be sanctified and ready to be a part of Christ returning to the earth. He has given meaning to the principles of the Gospel and asked us to keep His commandments, so that our temples (bodies) may be made holy, clean from sin, having a pure and undefiled heart, motivated by love and humility. All this is made possible by the indwelling of the Holy Ghost, the power to overcome sin in the flesh through the sacrifice of Christ, the justification to stand in the presence of God. Having done all that we can do, God makes up the difference for those whose heart is to be a part of the Celestial Kingdom. Only God knows if this is true of us. The sifting time is well and truly upon us, many have fainted by the way and given up the fight of the Christian and dissented over to the ways of the world, thus being carried away with the wind and discarded like the chaff (lost to the world).

To those of you who have not given up. Please continue to hold onto the Rod of Iron (the word of God), press forward on the straight and narrow path that leads to life eternal. As the dark mists and destructions threaten to overpower you, pray and exercise faith as you have never done before. God will help you and strengthen you (the word Comforter – means with strength) God is with you in strength and will assist you and is more than equal to the task of holding you if you will not let go of His hand. Hold On, Hold On, and Hold on. Press forward in faith believing and your faith shall be rewarded. When the seed of God is planted in us some bring forth fifty fold and others a hundred fold. God knows your potential and will help you to reach and exceed it through His tender mercy if you love and honour Him as Father and Lord of your life.

The rich promises of God await you. How wonderful are the ways of God.

D&C 10: 11b-12b (Great & Marvellous Work (to Joseph & Hyrum Smith)

[Sec 10:11b] Build upon my rock, which is my gospel; deny not the spirit of revelation, nor the spirit of prophecy, for woe unto him that denieth these things;
[Sec 10:11c] therefore, treasure up in your hearts until the time which is in my wisdom that you shall go forth: behold, I speak unto all who have good desires, and have thrust in their sickles to reap.
[Sec 10:12a] Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I am the life and the light of the world. I am the same who came unto my own, and my own received me not;
[Sec 10:12b] but verily, verily I say unto you, that as many as receive me, them will I give power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on my name. Amen.

The counsel here is to build upon the Rock. As mentioned already the world and its churches offer some really dodgy building material and foundations which cannot best endure the storms of life and tests of time. I am not saying there isn’t light in these places. When Joseph Smith the third asked God why I shouldn’t join with the Mormons, he was told in answer because the light that is with you is greater than that with them.

Church History, Volume 3, pages 250 – 251

“I do not care to say any more at present, but will simply add that if the same Spirit which prompts my coming, prompts also my reception, I am with you.” -True Latter Day Saints’ Herald, vol. 1, pp. 102-104.

On motion of Isaac Sheen it was “resolved, that Brother Joseph Smith be chosen Prophet, Seer, and Revelator of the Church of Jesus Christ, and the successor of his father.” His mother, Mrs. Emma Bidamon, widow of Joseph Smith the Martyr, was also received into fellowship by unanimous vote. Joseph Smith was then ordained President of the High Priesthood of the Church, under the hands of Elders Z. H. Gurley, Sen., of the Quorum of
Twelve, and William Marks, of the High Priests, according to the minutes of the conference.3 This ordination was previously ordered by the unanimous vote of the conference.

Joseph’s Testimony on why he wanted to join the Work. Church History, Volume 3, Chapter 12, Page 258 “ A year or two before this we had raised an excellent crop of wheat, upon a piece of land lying in the south of our meadow, and this man Yates had assisted in doing some of the work. While engaged in it we had some conversation about Utah. After this, I did not see him for some months. One day, while pondering these questions, (and here, unlike some, I cannot certainly state whether morn or even, only that the sun was shining,)

I suddenly found myself sowing this piece of land to wheat. My brother and this Mr. Yates I saw harrowing the wheat after my sowing. In passing over the land I met Mr. Yates as he drove to and fro, and our conversation was upon this Utah subject; and the same arguments and statements were repeated by him. To these I was urging again my reluctance to move, and the question was again presented, Why not go to Utah? I paused, rested the bag of grain that I was carrying across my shoulder, upon my knee, and turned to answer him. I heard a slight noise like the rush of the breeze, that arrested my speech and my attention. I turned my gaze slightly upward and saw descending towards me a sort of cloud, funnel shaped, with the wide part upward.

It was luminous, and of such color and brightness that it was clearly seen, though the sun shone in its summer strength. It descended rapidly and settling upon and over me enveloped me completely, so that I stood within its radiance.

“As the cloud rested upon the ground at my feet, the words ‘Because the light in which you stand is greater than theirs,’ sounded in my ears clearly and distinctly. Slowly.

Joseph the third had been raised without the guidance of his father, after the mob had killed his father. Emma his mother no doubt raised him as best she could. However with the leading men of the church scattering in all directions after the passing of Joseph Smith junior, Joseph his son had been left to grow up in a bit of a spiritual vacuum. God had plans for him as designated by his father before the mob killing took place. But Joseph had much to learn, much grounding to take place, leading up to the time that he took his place within the church.

Even then I have no doubt his leadership was entirely dependent on leaning upon God for guidance and direction every step of the way. Joseph the third was taught one of the most important lessons here in his experience in answer to the question why not go to Utah. In fact this opened the door to his being able to lead the church for the rest of his days. The answer he received didn’t say the Utah Mormons didn’t have light and truth amongst them. What it told him was the Light in which you stand is greater than theirs. Look more deeply!

In answer to his heart felt question, in which he took the advice in scripture (if any of you lack Wisdom, let him ask of God). God allowed him to hear a rushing breese, then see the light of God revealed in a vision in the form of a cloud, funnel shaped, with the wide part upward, filled with colour and light and brightness that settled upon and over him, then God Spoke to him out of the cloud of light in which he was now standing.

‘Because the light in which you stand is greater than theirs”.

Joseph had the gift and potential to receive the revelation of God to man, this in turn is the revealment of Christ and his Kingdom in its truest form into the lives of God’s people, thus offering gifts unto all who covenant with God.

His experience wasn’t saying the light he had known up until this point was greater than theirs (in fact it was probably less than theirs at that point because he didn’t have the privilege of his father’s counsel from a young age on). God’s message to young Joseph the third that day was the revelation straight from God which he was enjoying and basking in at that time is greater than theirs, I would say the greatest of all, having the potential to bring forth the kingdom if the saints of that day would allow it place in their hearts. This helped the church to hold on for many years, being built upon the Rock. During Joseph the thirds life, there wasn’t much ground breaking revelation like in the days of his Father. However an understanding of what had already been given came through him bringing stability, which the membership greatly needed after their horrific experiences at the hands of evil men and women.

Satan was still hard at work and in times before and during my life time, false doctrines and attitudes have entered in. Often sifting God’s people away as they have allowed it place in their hearts. It is prophesied these things would happen, it is prophesied the Gentile peoples as a whole to whom the Gospel went would collectively and not individually deny it, walking in their own ways, and after the image of their own God, whose image is in the likeness of the world, as mentioned in previous volumes, God is going to in time, seal up the time of the Gentiles and turn unto Israel again for the last time and they shall build Zion and some of the
Gentiles who remain faithful will be permitted to assist in this great work.

It is only in and through Christ, being built upon the Rock that we see our true place in this great work, there is much God authorised change to take place as given through all the holy Prophets since time began. If we are not careful we will find ourselves fighting against the movements of God thus making us enemies to God. One thing I can assure you the reader of is that if we find ourselves in this position we will lose. God’s words must all be fulfilled and do not come back unto him void. Therefore search the scriptures, ask questions in the prayer
of Faith believing you shall receive and you shall also be standing in a light that is greater than theirs as God reveals His true will to you and what role He would have you to play in it. The wisdom of men shall fail, the blind lead the blind for a season but shall all fall in the pit together. Satan and his servants aggressively defend the territory they have gained within the Restoration peoples, you may know them by their fruits.

Do not trust in the arm of flesh, but rather feast upon the word of God, receive his Spirit through Baptism and Confirmation, do all things worthily always keeping in mind it is only in and through Christ that we can be worthy, He being our advocate with the Father.

May God bless you to this end, Elder Neil Kerswell.

His Mission

From: Francis Harper

His Mission

The mission statement of Jesus was given by the prophet Isaiah more than seven centuries before the Lord’s birth. His mission was assigned by the Father and would be supported by the powers of heaven. “For God so loved the world . . .” (John 3:16).
In the precise timing of the Lord, Jesus read the words of Isaiah, pertaining to himself, at the synagogue of Nazareth: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, and he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and the recovering of sight to the blind; to set at liberty them that are bruised; to preach the acceptable year of the Lord . . .” (Isaiah 61: 1-2; Luke 4:17-19).

After reading this passage of scripture, Jesus said, “This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears” (Luke 4:21). The people of Nazareth could not accept this home-town boy as the anointed one. “And they said, Is not this Joseph’s [the carpenter’s] son?” (Luke 4:21). Others probably asked, “Who does he think he is?” We might have said, “I believe he is afflicted with delusions of grandeur!”

From our vantage point we can say, “He is the anointed one. He was, and is, the one sent to preach and heal. He is the one who gives sight to the blind and delivers the captives. Although Jesus was declared [proven to be] the Son of God by his resurrection (Romans 1:4), the world is still filled with the poor, broken-hearted and the blind. Many remain in captivity, waiting to be liberated and set free.

Sadly, we must say, most of those who are sick, poor, blind and bound in the “darksome prison house of sin,” are not aware of their condition. As Jesus said, “Because thou sayest, I am rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked” (Revelation 3:17). The simple fact is that people—all people—need the Lord. But the vast majority do not avail themselves of his ministry.

As we approach the day of the Lord’s coming, we should expect to see days of increasing evil “as it was in the days of Noah and Lot” (Luke 17). Jesus prophesied: “Upon the earth distress of nations with perplexity . . . men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth.” Then Jesus said, “And when these things begin to come to pass [and they are], then look up and lift up your heads, for the day of your redemption draweth nigh” (Luke 21:25-27).
Although barely a teenager, I remember well the troubled days of World War II. I recall President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s [FDR’s] four freedoms: the freedom of speech and worship; the freedom from want and fear. The forces of evil promote the denial of these freedoms. The preservation of them is not entirely the function of the government.

Love to all,
Francis Harper

The Truth Shall Make You Free

From: Francis Harper

The Truth Shall Make You Free

Dear Ones,

I recall the words, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32), written in stone on the exterior wall, above the entrance of the library at Iowa State University. Jesus is the source of all true freedom. As he said, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” (John 8:36).

The Proven Pathway to Freedom, by Oliver North
from his book True Freedom, reprinted from Prayer Lines

By 1978, I had known Colonel John Grinalds for about three years. He was on the fast track through the ranks. Top of his class at West Point and highly decorated for his two tours in Viet Nam. Oh, there was one other characteristic that set Grinalds apart. He was one of those “Christians.” Whatever that meant! Along with all the usual training and administrative manuals on his desk, he kept a Bible. Right there in plain sight. And he read it.
Grinalds was assigned as a Battalion Commander to the Second Marine Division and he honored me by asking me to come along as his operations officer. I was happy to hitch myself to this rapidly rising star. In my new role, I was third in command, responsible for the training and preparation of a 2,000 men unit for deployment to the Mediterranean.
One morning, about two weeks before we were due to deploy, our battalion was conducting a training exercise. I had just adjusted the antenna on an armored, amphibious vehicle and spurning the ladder on the side, I jumped to the ground. Big Mistake! Instant memories of my 1964 car accident flashed through my pain-racked mind. I had re-injured my back in exactly the same place. Aside from the wish for unconsciousness, my one overriding thought was, “I just blew my chance to deploy with these men.” I knew from having experienced a similar re-injury in a 1973 parachute accident, that I was due for at least two weeks of hospitalization and bed rest. I lay writhing on the ground. I could not feel my legs.
Before a medic could arrive, John Grinalds showed up. Next thing I knew, he was putting his hand on my legs and saying, “I’m going to pray for you.” “Pray?” I thought. “I’m lying here in agony and you want to pray?” But what I said aloud was, “Uh, Colonel, don’t you think we could just do this the usual way? You know, get a helicopter; go to the hospital . . . ?”But Grinalds just ignored me. He called out, “Lord Jesus Christ, You are the Great Physician. Heal this man.” In that very instant the pain just disappeared. Soon the feeling returned to my legs. When I was ready, Grinalds helped me to my feet. Astonished, I came out with one of the most insane utterances in my life. I said, “Thank you, sir.” At that, Grinalds grabbed me by my jacket and pulled my face up tightly to his. “Don’t thank me,” he said sternly. “Thank your Lord and Savior. He is the Great Physician. You have to turn to him.”
The incident was the two-by-four God used to break through my thick-skulled resistance. I had it in my head that freedom meant taking care of myself, forging my own path through the jungle of life’s challenges. I knew that God was there to help, but I expected Him to follow my lead. What I came to realize was that He had been leading all along and that I had not done well at following. I had been placing my faith in myself, yet He had been telling me over and over, “You’ll only be truly free when you know and trust Me.”

We all need to be set free from all the frailties of the mortal state in which we exist. “Lord, deliver us from all forms of idolatry. Help us worship only you. Liberate us from pride, greed, selfishness and every ‘sin which doth so easily beset us’ (Hebrews 12:1). Forgive us when we fail and take away our guilt. Deliver us from the dreadful tools of the devil: deception [deceiving and being deceived], depression, delusions, distractions, doubt, discouragement and despair. Let us ‘be free, indeed.’

In Jesus name, Amen.”

Love to all,
Francis Harper

“Be Ye Also Ready”

From: Francis Harper

“Be Ye Also Ready”

“. . . until the day that Noah entered into the ark, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, and knew not until the flood came and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be . . . In the last days, two shall be in the field; the one shall be taken and the other left. Two shall be grinding at the mill; the one taken and the other left. And what I say unto one, I say until all men; Watch, therefore, for ye know not at what hour your Lord doth come . . . therefore be ye also ready; for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of Man cometh” (Matthew 24:45-51 IV; 24:38-44 KJV).

King Benjamin’s counsel to his people is still appropriate for us to consider today. “This much can I tell you, that if you do not watch yourselves, and your thoughts, and your words, and your deeds, and observe to keep the commandments of God, and continue in the faith of what ye have heard concerning the coming of our Lord, even unto the end of your lives, you must perish” (Mosiah 2:49).

The Lord promised Noah, “And the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh” (Genesis 9:20 IV; 9:15 KJV). Instead of a flood, the Lord promised a similar destruction by fire: “For behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble; and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

But unto you that fear [reverence and honor] my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall grow up as calves of the stall [sheltered]. And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts” (Malachi 4:1-3).

Jesus reminded his disciples that the day of his second coming would be as it was in the days of Lot. “Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed” (Luke 17:28-30).

Many may dismiss the words of Malachi as “Old Testament,” thinking that God surely would not destroy the inhabitants of the earth by fire! But the words of Malachi 4 were emphasized by the angel Moroni three times during the night of September 22-23, 1823, and a fourth time the next day.

During his visit in this hemisphere, Jesus emphasized the importance of the words of Malachi. “And he saith, these scriptures which ye had not with you, the Father commanded that I should give unto you, for it is wisdom in him that they should be given to future generations” (3 Nephi 11:29). We have much more to consider than global warming!

In 1991, I visited the site near the Dead Sea and Masada, where we walked on great mounds of the ashen remains of one of the five
wicked cities destroyed in the days of Lot. The ashes still have the lingering smell of sulphur, or brimstone.

Jesus spoke of Sodom when he warned the people of Capernaum, “. . . if the mighty works which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee” (Matthew 11:25-26).

“Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands and a pure heart” (Psalm 24:3-4). “Who may abide the day of his coming? And who shall stand when he appeareth? For he is like a refiner’s fire . . .” (Malachi 3:2).

My love to all,

"As it was in the days of Noe (Noah)" From Francis

From: Francis Harper

"As it was in the days of Noe (Noah)" From Francis

Dear Ones,

You may recall the words of Jesus spoken to the Pharisees and Sadducees: “. . . when it is evening ye say, the weather is fair, for the sky is red; and in the morning ye say, the weather is foul today; for the sky is red and lowering. O hypocrites! Ye can discern the face of the sky; but ye cannot tell the signs of the times” (Matthew 16:1-3).

I am amazed at the accuracy of weather forecasting today. Great strides have been made in the science of predicting the weather. Are we making any progress in discerning the signs of the times?

Jesus told his disciples to watch for the signs of his coming. If God had revealed the day of his Son’s return, we would quite likely procrastinate the days of our preparations. Not knowing “neither the day nor the hour” behooves us to be prepared at all times.

In response to his disciple’s question, “What is the sign of thy coming?”, he said, “Take heed that no man deceive you” (Matthew 24:4 IV; 24:3 KJV). We have witnessed much deception, even within the church, in recent years. My grandmother wisely counseled me before my teenage years to remember the words of Jeremiah: “Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm . . . Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is” (Jeremiah 17:5,7).

Paul warned Timothy: “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come . . . For evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived” (2 Timothy 3:1, 13). We have recently witnessed wickedness, lying and the intent to deceive in the highest echelons of our government.

We must rely upon the Lord and his Holy Spirit to help us escape the wiles of the wicked. Only those who are led by the Spirit and who treasure up the words of Jesus will be equipped to overcome the snares of Satan and his servants. Jesus warned, “And again, beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing; but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits” (Matthew 7:24-25 IV; 7:15-16 KJV).

As we watch and read the daily news, we are made increasingly aware that we are living near the end of the age and the time of the Lord’s appearing. We who are endeavoring to remain steadfast, in spite of all the distractions and deceptions of our day, are called to keep our eyes open, watching for the signs of his coming as we continue our secular tasks. The Lord gave Noah a seven-day notice of the coming of the flood (Genesis 8:32 IV; 7:4 KJV). Surely the Lord will also give the saints of our day some hints as the day of his coming becomes more imminent.

My fellow travelers to Nepal in 2014 were Brian Herren and Travis Clark. After departing from Paris on the second leg of our journey, I soon closed my eyes and went to sleep. An unknown length of time later, I was suddenly awakened. The sky was clear and directly in front of my window was a beautiful, snow-capped mountain, framed by a bright blue sky. It was Mount Ararat! It is easily identified by Little Ararat, which stands nearby. I had admired these mountains in 1991, when I had traveled to the Noah’s Ark site in Eastern Turkey.

It was obvious to me the Lord had arranged this precious experience. I had been assigned a window seat, on the left side of the aircraft, which I had not requested; I had been awakened in the precise timing of the Lord on an eight-hour flight to New Delhi, India! I was able to arouse Brian to share this scene of unsurpassed beauty and significance. We who are living today have been warned again to prepare, “for as it was in the days of Noe; so shall it be also in the days of the Son of Man” (Luke 17:26).

The Passion of Jesus in Trafalgar Square

From: Dwight Burford

The Passion of Jesus in Trafalgar Square

For safety reasons when traveling abroad, I pay attention to the local news and the different sights and sounds around me. Interestingly enough, watching the video linked below brought back some of the sights and sounds I experienced while in the UK late last year and earlier this year. Some of these sounds were incidental to the backdrop of this dramatization of the passion of Jesus Christ.

Full Play

Clips of the Play

While it is a bit long, I hope you can take some time to watch at least a portion of the play, which reportedly took place this weekend on the streets of London. It somehow tied the past to the present for me and I hope it will do the same for you as well.
I say this in part because while I was in the UK, I felt a certain spiritual deadness in many of the places I visited, and I came away with doubts that many of the Brits still believe in the resurrection. So this dramatization seemed to bring some hope to me notwithstanding that some of the doctrine is not consistent with the restored gospel. Nevertheless, since the production was rather well done, I thought it worth sharing with you all for some encouragement and inspiration.

God's blessings,
Dwight B.

Paul Rodney Smart Obituary

From: Pete Smart

Paul Rodney Smart Obituary

November 12, 1924 – April 6, 2017

Paul Rodney Smart, age 92, of Kearney, Missouri passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017. He was born on November 12, 1924, in Eastern Colorado near Eads, Colorado to parents Arthur Gilbert (Bert) and Lenna Cook Smart. The family moved to Kincaid, Kansas in March, 1934 where Paul graduated from Kincaid High School in 1942. After moving to Denver and Kansas City for various jobs, Paul was drafted into the Army in World War II on April 14, 1943 and returned from his European service in January, 1946. Paul then attended Graceland College (Lamoni, Iowa) and Balboa University (San Diego, California) receiving a BA in Accounting in September, 1949.

After graduating from Graceland and before moving to San Diego, Paul married Beatrice (Peggy) Gard on June 6, 1948. Paul began work as an accountant at Consumers Cooperative Association (later known as Farmland Industries) in 1949 and retired as Director of Excise Tax in 1983. In 1954, Paul and Peggy purchased a 100 acre farm in Kearney, Missouri that was home until each of their deaths.

Paul was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as a 13-year old child, but due to distance, the family was unable to attend. After his time at Graceland College and with the influence of his dear wife, Paul’s most important activities in his life became serving God. Paul was ordained to the office of Priest (1951), Elder (1960), and High Priest (1966). He served as Pastor of various congregations: Liberty (RLDS), Excelsior Springs (RLDS), Washington Restoration Branch (Excelsior Springs, Missouri), and Maysville Restoration Branch (Maysville, Missouri). Beginning in 1975, Paul and Peggy began teaching classes at churches first in the Kansas City area and then, after retirement, branching out to churches across the country.

The Greatest Gift of All!

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: paul gage

The Greatest Gift of All!

Dear Saints and Friends,

Sunday, April 16, 2017 represents the greatest day in the history of mankind. The day that we observe the fact that Jesus Christ, was God's greatest gift and that He died for our sins, and rose from the dead to show that He had all power both in heaven and on earth. He conquered sin, death, the grave, and Satan. He truly is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and all the other names given that describe His Greatness.

Unfortunately, on this day, and every other day of the year, most people of the world will pay little heed to what God has done for them. The church of Christianity has become so diluted, that now people reverence Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and Halloween more than they do their Creator. Sad to say, that in the Church of Jesus Christ, many are no different than the rest of the world.

I have watched two movies this week regarding Jesus Christ. One is showing now, in some places and is called, "The Case for Christ." It is from a book by the same name written by Lee Strobel in the late 90's. It is a true story of his search to disprove Christianity and Jesus Christ. He of course could not do it and became a Christian. It worth your viewing. Probably the biggest thing he had to overcome was why would anyone suffer, like Jesus did, for us. The answer is LOVE!

The other movie has been out since 2004. I have it on DVD and watched it at home. It is called, "The Passion of the Christ." It was directed by Mel Gibson and depicts the last 12 hours in the life of Jesus Christ, beginning in the Garden of Gethsemane and ending with Jesus being placed in the tomb. In that time frame, it covers the time in the garden, the arrest, the mock trials, and the horrific beating of Jesus Christ. Some think it is too graphic and excessive, but I think it is right on the mark. I have seen some pictures of Christ on the Cross with hardly a speck of blood anywhere. We know that is not true. I would not suggest the movie, however, for anyone under 16 years of age.

May our lives be a living testimony for "The Case for Christ," And may we have the passion to live for Christ, in some way that might be comparable to the passion He had and has for each of us. If you want to read just what a farce the trial of Jesus was, read Matthew 26:58-65. This simply reminds us that Jesus was in total control of every aspect of His life and death on this earth. He, as always, is in complete control of our lives also. But we must remember that Jesus cannot save us in our sins, only from our sins, and that on the condition of true and sincere repentance.

“The Road to Emmaus”

From: Dwight Burford

“The Road to Emmaus”

In watching the short movie “The Road to Emmaus” recently,
I was reminded of the wonder of Jesus spending considerable time with two of His disciples on the day He rose from the dead (Luke 24). It was on this most unique of days that Jesus had gained victory over death and the grave. It is simply amazing to think, then, of our Lord walking alone with just two disciples as they struggled to make sense of all that had happened over the previous several days.

Here, on a little-known road to a little-known village, we find Jesus patiently unfolding to two of His little-known disciples the meaning of all the prophecies concerning Himself and the work of redemption He had just fulfilled. To our further amazement, we read that these two disciples did not come to recognize Jesus until He broke bread for them at the end of the day.

This account of the day Jesus was resurrected from the grave is rich with lessons about our Lord and the truly personal nature of His ministry, e.g. we see here how He takes time, even on the most remarkable of days, to provide ministry to individual disciples no matter how well-known or little-known they may be.

Because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever, we can trust that He can and will do the same for us today no matter how well-known or little-known we may be. For in the words of Paul, our Lord is not far from every one of us. As such, He is able to open to each of our understandings all that has been written about Himself and His ministry as revealed throughout the ages.

Consider, then, walking along with these two disciples as they journey with Jesus by selecting this link or the link provided on “The Road to Emmaus” webpage.
You can further explore the meaning of Jesus’ message and ministry as it is discussed in the post “How may we know the true identity of Jesus Christ?” Because Jesus lives, the hope of being partakers of His glory is a sure and secure anchor to all those who believe in His name and resurrection. God’s richest blessings to each one, then, as we remember our resurrected Lord.

God’s blessings
Dwight B.

He is coming again! from Francis Harper

From: Francis Harper

He is coming again!

Dear Ones,
During our first visit to Jerusalem in January of 1990, we met a young man at the Holy Land West Hotel. He introduced himself as Kent Sahlstrom, who was completing some of his residency requirements as a medical doctor at one of the hospitals in Jerusalem. He asked, “Are you people from the Midwest?” When we told him we were from Iowa, he told us he was a graduate of the University of Iowa Medical School. He volunteered to be our tour guide, at no charge! We recognized our meeting with Kent as being more than a coincidence. It was a divine appointment.
One of the many sacred sites we visited was the place of the Lord’s crucifixion and resurrection. Within an estimated 50 x 100 square foot area, about the size of a basketball court, is the place the Apostle John described in these words: “Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden , and in the garden a new [and unused] sepulcher . . . there they laid Jesus” (John 19:41-42).
John’s description fits the site we witnessed perfectly. The garden tomb and the skull-shaped hill are located side by side. The tomb, “hewn out of rock,” is at the left, the place of crucifixion at the right. The place of the skull can be identified by the natural indentations in the rock, which appear like the empty eye sockets of a skull. There was no need to transport the body of Jesus a long distance after it was taken from the cross, “for the sepulcher was nigh at hand” (John 19:42).
I recall asking Biblical Archaeologist Ronald Wyatt if he thought the Garden Tomb was the tomb of Jesus Christ? He quickly answered, “I know it is!” I asked, “How do you know?” He then mentioned several natural and man-made features of the garden, such as the stone mountain from which the tomb was hewn, the 200,000 gallon reservoir and the large wine vat identifying this place as a rich man’s garden.
Matthew described the place and process of burial: “When the evening was come, there came a rich man of Arimathea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple [and a relative]. He went to Pilate and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own new tomb [the testimonies of John and Matthew agree], which he had hewn out in the rock, and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulcher (Matthew 27:60-62 IV; 27:57-60 KJV).
As the women walked in the early morning darkness with their spices to anoint the body of their beloved friend, they wondered who would roll away the stone for them, “for it was very great” (Mark 16:1-4). In his digging near the site, Wyatt discovered the great stone. It measured thirteen feet in diameter and nearly two feet in thickness, precisely the size to fit the trough chiseled out of the rock in front of the entrance to the tomb.
The final piece of evidence, which convinced Wyatt [and us] that the Garden Tomb is the actual burial place of Jesus, dealt with the sealing of the tomb. He explained that to the left and a little above the entrance to the sepulcher, he had discovered the end of an iron rod which had been inserted through the great stone door and into the rock of the mountain-side, from which the tomb was hewn.
After nearly 2,000 years, the end of the rod is still there, bearing a silent testimony that “a great earthquake” had sheared the rod, opening the tomb for all the world to see; Jesus “is risen, as he said” (Matthew 28:5 IV; 28:6 KJV). Is there any better news than this? Perhaps not better, but there is more good news. He is coming again!
“. . . we should live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world; looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God, and our Savior Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works” (Titus 2:12-14).

My love to all,
Francis Harper

The Good News

The good news announced by the angels who appeared to the Bethlehem shepherds was fulfilled at Jerusalem thirty-three years later. The fulfillment occurred appropriately at the time of the Jewish Passover. The Jews had faithfully observed the Feast of Passover, each year in remembrance of “the night of great solemnity” when the destroying angel passed-over the homes of Israel. Moses had been commanded, “Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb . . . Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year . . . And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day . . . and the whole assembly of the congregation shall kill it in the evening. And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post . . . And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt” (Exodus 12:3-13).

God has provided us a Lamb. John the Baptist identified the worthy Lamb on two occasions. John, the beloved apostle, wrote: “. . . John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and said; Behold the Lamb of God,
who taketh away the sin of the world! Again, the next day after, John stood, and two of his disciples [Andrew, brother of Simon Peter, and John, brother of James], And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he
said; Behold the Lamb of God!” (John 1:29, 36).

The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus are the supreme events of all recorded history. The Apostle John was an eye-witness of both. In his account, John very carefully and humbly avoids using his own name. In his description of the details of the crucifixion, he wrote: “And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true; and he knoweth that [which] he saith [is] true, that ye might believe” (John 19:5).

John wrote: “And he bearing his cross went forth into a place . . . which is called in the Hebrew, Golgotha.” He adds, “For the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city” (John 19:17, 20). The Apostle Paul agreed: “Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate” [outside of the city gate] (Hebrews 13:12).

Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians, wrote, “God who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us [made us alive] together with Christ; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if [it] so be that we suffer with him [being willing to sacrifice and shed blood of our own, if necessary], that we may be also glorified together” (Ephesians 2:4-5; Romans 8:17). “For it is by grace we are saved, after all we can do” (2 Nephi 11:44).

John was also an eyewitness of the burial and the place of the Lord’s burial: “Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulcher . . . There laid they Jesus . . . for the sepulcher was nigh at hand” (John 19:41-42). The two most important historical events ever recorded, happened in the same place!

By his resurrection, Jesus was “declared the Son of God” (Romans 1:4). And his resurrection is proof of our own. “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive” (1 Corinthians 15:22).

Wherefore, how great the importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth . . . (2 Nephi 1:73). The good news is, “. . . he is risen, as he said” (Matthew 28:5 IV; 28:6 KJV).
