RLDS BOOK NEWS

RLDS BOOK NEWS

A few notes for interested readers:

• So far this year, we have given about 100 free books with the purchase of books. We will continue this procedure during the month of February and beyond. Purchase a new or used book and get a FREE USED book of equal or lesser value. Check website #1 below to see the list of available used books. (Only a few limitations apply.)

• A bit of bad news: Because of an increase in paper prices, etc., we are increasing the price of Arthur Oakman's The Endowment Series to $8.00.

• Offsetting good news: We are again available for "book parties." Talk with a few friends who enjoy new books and select a date when several--maybe a dozen or so--could get together. Call Dee and Paul to schedule a book party at a home or church. We will come to you with about 65 new RLDS books and some gifts, give you time to browse through the books, and take your orders. You pay for the books when you order, and we deliver them to your "leader" within a few days, who will get them to you. (This offer has to be limited to areas not too far from Independence, MO.) Call us for additional info.

• We expect to receive the new book, Discovering the Book of Mormon and Its Gospel Gems, from the printer within a few days. It is an excellent missionary tool for people who have never read the Book of Mormon.

Research Project at CPRS

 From: Alicia Negaard

Research Project at CPRS

Our class, Experimenting on God's Word is doing a project to quantify the financial effects of paying tithing. "Honor the Lord with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase; so shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine." Proverbs 3:9, 10.

We have heard plenty of testimonies of blessings from paying tithing. We would like to see if we can quantify those blessings.

We need 20 volunteers who are willing to track their finances for a month and do a little math. We do NOT want to know ANY of your financial information. We will need you to record the total balance of cash in your checking account and savings accounts on Feb 1. Then you will record the total of your checking and savings accounts on March 1. Here is the math. Divide the March 1 number by the Feb 1 number and report to us that number.

If you decide to do this, you will be randomly assigned to the tithing or non-tithing group. You are certainly allowed to pay February tithing due in March, after you have gotten your March 1 figure. We do not want anyone to NOT pay tithing just suspend it for a month for this experiment.

Is this a perfect research design--no. We are depending on your honesty in self-reporting and actually paying your tithing. (BTW-we are NOT specifying who you pay tithing to, just continue as you have been doing). We are also depending on you to do the math to give us the percentage change. Would it be better if this experiment lasted longer, yes. However this is a class and we have time constraints for this.

We have not been able to find any actual attempt to research this and are eager to give it a try.
"But behold, if ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith..." Alma 16:151

Thank you so much,

LIVING IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD JANUARY 26, 2023

 From: Paul Gage

pauljg_64055@yahoo.com

LIVING IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD JANUARY 26, 2023

As January is speeding past, how is your New Year in the Kingdom going? We know that God is always true to His promises, as we sing, “Standing on the promises of Christ, my King.” He, in turn, expects us to stand firm in our covenant and commitment to Him. This, of course, requires our daily attention to our commitment to our Lord and Savior.

We all are faced every day, perhaps many times, by people, things, etc. that knowingly or unknowingly attempt to get us off the promises of God and onto or into something less. Every day becomes a new opportunity for us to experience living in the Kingdom of God. Every thing we do, think or say is an indication of how Kingdom living is going for us.

Many people do not make a connection with the temporal and spiritual aspects of life, but if the body and the spirit make up the soul of man (DC 85:3-5) then Jesus points this out in Matthew 5:23-26

23 Ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time that thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment of God. 24 But I say unto you that whosoever is angry with his brother shall be in danger of his judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, or Rabcha, shall be in danger of the council; and whosoever shall say to his brother, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hellfire. 25 Therefore, if ye shall come unto me, or shall desire to come unto me, or if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee, 26 Leave thou thy gift before the altar, and go thy way unto thy brother, and first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

Jesus is telling us that living in the Kingdom requires submitting all aspects of our lives to Him. We cannot just go to church and be “friendly” with others while harboring ill will in our heart and mind. We cannot just “pretend to be living in the Kingdom,” we must live in accordance with the laws of the King.

We hear so much about preparation and being ready for the Lord’s return that maybe, at times, we, as the old saying states, “Let it go in one ear and out the other.” This can be a fatal mistake, temporally and spiritually.

There are many hymns, songs, stories and poems that remind us of how we should be living our lives. One of these is hymn 450 in “Hymns of the Restoration” 2007 Edition. We do not know who wrote this hymn of challenge and encouragement, but we can be certain that it is one of

God’s messages for us today.

“Are you ready, O my people,
to have Zion of this day?
Serve your God with all your being,
live the Savior’s glorious way!
Hold back nothing from my service,
Let your all be known as mine!
Rich rewards will compensate you,
For My Kingdom shall be thine.
Show you are ready, O my people,
To have Zion of this day;
Serve your God with all your being,
LIVE the Savior’s glorious way."

God bless and guide you each day,
Paul Gage

Goat Herd For Sale

From: Riane Marsh
riane.thomas.2012@gmail.com

Goat Herd For Sale

We have three female milk goats to sell, preferably together as they are bonded and well adjusted to each other. They are very social and behave quite well around adults and kids. We are selling them because we are going to go in a different direction for our herd. Hate to sell them as they are so sweet, but someone else would get more use of of these girls.

The brown doe, dwarf Alpine, is a very good mother and good milker. The two black and white does are dwarf Alpine and dwarf Nigerian mix, and are sisters. They will all be 2 years old this coming spring. Buying all three would be a good way to start a small goat herd. They have all been exposed to my dwarf Alpine buck for several months and should be pregnant, expecting kids in May/June. (He has been a very successful sire with all the does he's been with)

$300 per doe or $800 for all three, giving preference if you can buy them all.

Update for Marianne

 From: Marianne Goodwater

Update for Marianne

I fell last Monday and didn't go to hospital because the ambulance people thought I checked out OK, and I just wanted to go home. I went to the hospital on Thursday, and wouldn't have then, if they hadn't caught that I was passing blood. I'll have the brace on for around three months. I'm already standing up and walking a little.

There was a certain way that I could get up without hurting so bad. It still hurts when I cough, breathe, yawn and move. I broke 3 right ribs, broke my T8(vertebrate), and bruised my right kidney. I'll let everyone know, what's coming next. I think, this afternoon, it's to rehab at James River. Thanks for caring, it means so much to me. I’ll let you know when I get moved, to rehab.

Love y’all.
Marianne
