Kitten Fosters Needed Right now, the Saline Animal League in Marshall has 4 litters with 3 to 6 kittens in each ready for a foster home. One litter with 6 kittens is already on its way here tomorrow to a foster home in the area. Should someone be willing to foster a litter, a volunteer will deliver a kit with food, litter, and the essentials needed to care for the mama and kittens. When the kittens are ready to be weaned, the volunteer will take the mama to be spayed and on to Petsmart for adoption. When the kittens weigh about three pounds, they will be ready to leave their foster home, at which time a volunteer will return to pick them up. Should any kitten appear ill, a volunteer will take whatever action is necessary. There is never a cost to the foster. The reason rural communities have so many abandoned kittens is because they don't have the resources to implement spay/neuter clinics and trap and release programs. Here in the city you rarely see a stray cat, and if you do, that cat will often be rescued and cared for by the heroes of our industry; those who serve as trap and release volunteers.

Marlene has been keeping the cages full at the Petsmart in Liberty for over 14 years, and as of this date, over 1400 cats have been adopted out of that one Petsmart store. Dora "Nadine" Ballantyne - Obituary

 

Dora "Nadine" Ballantyne January 26, 1930 — April 27, 2024 Dora Nadine (Cook) Ballantyne was born January 26th, 1930 to David William Cook and Goldie Mae Palmer Cook near Grand River, IA. The family's primary means of support was through farming, and she and her sisters Darlene, Lorene and Landa learned to manage a household early, cooking, cleaning, and helping with chores as needed. It wasn't all work, though, as their parents made family the priority, and fun together essential. The girls and the family had many adventures, and mom's stories of her childhood were often repeated at her sons' requests, just as her moms were when mom was a girl. Neighbors of mom's family introduced them to the fullness of The Gospel, and she was baptized a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in April 1952. Mom has stated that she was always confident of the truth of the Book of Mormon and the events surrounding the coming forth of the church, never doubting. Mom and the love of her life, Bob Ballantyne, noticed each other and began dating in January 1950 and were married July 7th, 1951, immediately setting up their home in Unionville, MO, where Bob was employed. Three sons, Mark, Winn, and Drew were added to the family, and dad served as pastor of the RLDS church in Centerville, IA for many years. Bob passed away just before Thanksgiving in 1975. Mom's testimonies of how the Lord created timely opportunities, opened doors, and took care of all the necessary arrangements are solid anchors of our family's faith, not the least of which resulted in her teaching two blocks from home in the Unionville public-school system for many years. She has served her Master in a number of capacities through the years and has many testimonies of God showing the many ways He causes all things to work together for good to them that love Him, to them who are the called according to His purpose. Nadine passed from this life peacefully on April 27th, 2024. She was preceded to the afterlife by her parents, her husband, Bob; her son, Mark and her sister, Landa. Those who remain and remember her fondly are her sons, Winn and Drew; her beloved daughters-in-law, two sisters, two brothers-in-law, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many close friends and neighbors who were dear to her.

Patricia Ann Howard - Obituary

 

Patricia Ann Howard (1931-2024) Patricia Ann Howard, 92, of Harrisonville, Missouri, died at home on April 6, 2024. She was born in Galesburg, Missouri on April 18, 1931, to parents William and Vallie (Williams) Miller. Patricia married Robert Howard in 1950, and they were married for 59 years. Together they had 3 children--Larry Howard (Cathy), Jacque Baker (John), and Julie Bartley (Den), 13 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and shortly before her death, Patricia learned she would soon have her first great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Howard, son Larry Howard, and daughter Jacque Baker. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Cathy Howard, son-in-law John Baker, and daughter Julie Bartley and son-in-law Den. Though mostly known as Pat in her later years, she had many other nicknames: Pattie, Mom, Granny, Grandma, until the birth of her first great grandchild earned her the title “GG Ma,” short for “Great Grandma.” Eventually, that title got shortened even more to the affectionate “GG” that we all came to know and love. Pat was a member of Waldo Avenue Restoration Branch. She loved being at church and enjoying the fellowship with family and friends. One of her greatest joys was discussing the gospel of Jesus Christ with anyone willing to listen. Even into her 90s, she continued to study and learn as much as she could and was often heard expounding on her latest understandings of scripture. She also cherished the sacred hymns of our Lord and enjoyed singing them and listening to them, and as the opportunities arose, would lift her voice in song with the church choir or other musical offerings. Always a generous soul, Pat was willing to help someone in need in whatever way she possibly could. She employed many a willing grandchild or great grandchild in order to give them opportunities they may never have gotten any other way. In doing so, she taught them valuable skills such as budgeting, work ethic, stewardship, the importance of saving money, and that a job worth doing is worth doing well. Pat loved to have fun. While spending time with her family, she was often found bantering back and forth with her sons in law, claiming that “if you weren’t picked on, you weren’t loved.” She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held in Pat’s honor on May 4, 2024, at 10am at Waldo Avenue Restoration Branch.

Gregory Kent - Obituary

 

Gregory Kent Jordison October 14, 1954 — April 30, 2024 Independence Gregory Kent Jordison, known affectionately as Greg, passed away on April 30, 2024, in Independence, Missouri. He was born on October 14, 1954, in the same town to his loving parents Verle and Barbara Jordison. Greg led a fulfilling life as a diesel mechanic for the Associated Grocers, where his passion for working on cars shone through in every project he undertook. He graduated from Raytown High School and dedicated himself to mastering his craft with skill and precision. Described as fun, smart, caring, and kind by those who knew him best, Greg's warm personality left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path. When he wasn't under the hood of a vehicle, his hobbies included crafting a prized remodel of a 1934 Plymouth and painting birdhouses—gifts from family and friends to add to his collection of miniature cars. Greg is survived by his devoted wife Peggy Jordison, step-children Eli Noland and Hannah Bridgewater (Tony Restivo), step-grandchildren Joel Noland, Ryan Bridgewater, and Valentina Restivo, sister Sheila Woolf and her family, extended family members, and a multitude of dear friends who were touched by his generosity and had the privilege of experiencing his unwavering kindness. In the quiet moments spent surrounded by loved ones sharing stories of times gone by, Greg will be forever cherished for the joy he brought into the lives of so many. His legacy as a dedicated mechanic and a beloved husband, father figure, grandfather figure, brother figure - friend lives on in the hearts of those who had the honor of knowing him. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace as we continue to carry forward the lessons he imparted through his actions and unwavering love for those around him. Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held at 2:00pm, on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Summit Grove Community of Christ,411 S Lee's Summit Rd, Independence, MO 64050.

 FOLLOWING THE WAY IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD MAY 2, 2024

God’s best blessings to all the Saints around the world,

A little change in the title of this week’s article. I’m sure many Saints and other Christians are familiar with John 14:6, or at least have heard it before, where Jesus plainly told Thomas that HE (JESUS) WAS THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE, AND NO MAN COMETH TO THE FATHER, BUT BY ME. We sometimes want to chastise the first apostles because of some of their actions, etc., however, we must keep in mind that before Jesus was crucified and resurrected, they did not have the “Rest of the story.” We do. It was not until after Jesus proved his power over sin, death, the grave, and Satan that they knew of his total power. That is why they were able to go forth and do the mighty deeds they did. They followed the WAY, Jesus.

When Jesus first called some of the apostles it says in Matthew 4:19 “And they believing on his words, left their nets, and straightway followed him.” Straightway is a power word of action meaning immediately with no delay or hesitation or excuses. And they were faithful to their commitment though faltering, at times. In the early church, following the day of Pentecost, the Saints were known as “Followers of the WAY, meaning followers of Jesus Christ. In Acts 9 we read that Saul was going to Damascus with the intent to find “Any of the way” and take them to Jerusalem. He was seeking to destroy those who were following Jesus.

If we feel that we are living in the kingdom of God, then we must be true followers of THE WAY, JESUS. Not just in talk, but in action, in our daily living. We have been commissioned by the words of Jesus to seek first, to build up his kingdom and establish his righteousness. We cannot do that unless we are true followers of the WAY. We cannot be following THE WAY, if we are going some other way.

Perhaps it is time for all of us to drop all the pretentions about who is, who isn’t and get back on the pathway with Jesus. There is only one Church of Jesus Christ. It therefore is the One He said He would build, not some variation of man. Whether you believe the message given at Kirtland in September of 2022 is divine or not, we have five months to prepare. E.W. Bullinger, in his book “Numbers in Scripture” says the number five stands for grace. The grace of God, which He says is sufficient for us.

We continue to hear about and see the destructive results of many “natural disasters.” God has said He would use these forces to bring about a purified people. Many years ago, Brother Roy Weldon gave a divine message at a reunion. Remember it? TIME IS RUNNING OUT! The message said time is running out for those who continue to disobey God’s commands, but time is not running out for those who are true followers of THE WAY.

This Sunday is May 5. We have another opportunity to come clean before the Lord Our God, to put aside all our human desires for what we want, and finally surrender all to Jesus and accomplish wants He wants. As always, the choice is ours.

ALSO REMEMBER THURSDAY, MAY 2, 2024 IS USA NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER.
