David S. Downs, 81, Of Independence, MO passed away February 3, 2021.

Regrettably, due to Covid-19 concerns, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.

David was born on February 8, 1939 in Warren, Ohio to Charles and Gladys Downs. It was in Ohio that he met the love of his life, and wife of 51 years, Karen Sue Ruckman. In 1979 David, along with his wife and family relocated to Independence. He made his career as a truck driver, delivering for several food service companies. He was a gifted guitarist and passionate musician – in his younger years he even cut a record with his band, The Sting-Rays. He was a longtime elder and attended Grain Valley Restoration Branch; he guided many people to know and serve the Lord through his example and his blessing for interpreting and explaining the Scriptures. He wrote numerous works of poetry, many of which remain as family treasures. He was the best father ever, with the best sense of humor!

Survivors include his wife Diana Downs; daughter Dawn Fite (Michael); sons Darren Downs and David Downs (Leanne); grandchildren: Curtis Slinker, Amanda Gardner (Tony), Dean Downs, David Downs, Haley Downs, Susan Downs, and Samantha Downs; great grandchildren; Alizay Gardner, Alexis Gardner, Kloey Slinker, Autumn Slinker, and Brynlee Slinker; and many extended family and a host of friends.

David is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Karen Downs in 2016; his parents, son Dean Downs in 1995, son Daniel Downs in 2017; and all of his siblings.
