IIAW April Meeting Notes:

God continues to pour out His blessings upon His people! We praise Him, and Him alone! There is no God like our God!

Mike Box, Unity Center Admin. Assistant, reported that Andy Gross and his demo crew removed 2/3rds of the window sashes on the top floor of the Unity Center, in preparation for volunteers who will arrive Saturday May 1st to do the rest of the removal. There is work for all volunteers with every level of experience. From the March 20, Men's Breakfast at Living Hope Restoration Church, one man said he could take some of the windows for a greenhouse project and volunteered to haul the rest away. This saves the center having to pay for a dumpster to remove the windows from the property. Through three generous donations, the windows are completed funded. God is so GOOD!

Mike shared the Unity Center has new, committed and equipped volunteers who have come on board to organize and distribute the supplies in the Jesus Store. Every day we see brothers an sisters come forth to cover greatly needed positions and projects.

The Jesus Jar collection for the Unity Center renovation projects came to $97 this month. A total of $974 in mostly pocket change since January 26th monthly meeting. Small things produce big results!

Kathy and Joel Adams presented information on recent proven developments in soil technology to produce nutrient dense, strong, disease-resistant plants and food on small plots of ground, They also shared about the growing community of urban gardeners, food production cooperatives popping up across the nation and in our area, to help supply food or distribution on a local basis. Also, classes are available that teach effective gardening therapies and practices, and cooperative ventures in this region. The Adams's work with prison ministry to teach inmates hands-on food production and farming skills. The Adams shared information about  Mid American Food Hub and Training in Pilot Grove, MO, that offers dehydrated food for emergency preparations and training. If you are interested in knowing more about these groups, contact Kathy Adams at 816-255-6261, kathyaherbs@gmail.com, and Mid American Food Hub and Training, 573-619-9139, 100 Harris Street, Pilot Grove, MO, 65276. Antioch Urban Growers is dedicated to providing introductory training, hands on participation and community co-ops using different methods. 816-699-4953, 2727 NE 44th St, Kansas City, MO, 64117.

Gary Metzger presented information on a new Food Association for those who see the need to become more interdependent and self-sufficient in food production for this local region, to organize land preparation, planting, weeding, harvesting, product creation and distribution. He is hosting a meeting at Living Hope Restoration Church, Thursday, April 29th at 7:00pm, 2425 S. Crysler Avenue. Gary's concern is that the city should be making greater preparation against a time of judgments that are looming on the horizon. Gary's number is 816-726-0777.

Ron Kroeger and Ryan Anderson continue to work on housing and job services for about 15 beloveds. This ministry is moving forward well.

Muriel Luedeman talked about the need to mobilize more volunteers for the Unity Center and community outreach. She reported on two ministries in Springfield and Branson, Eden Village and ELEVATE Branson, who are using the same house plans and builder to erect tiny house communities for the homeless and near homeless Beloveds. She said as we move forward in Independence, it is important for all believers to consider all of Independence as our family. To lift up Independence in prayer daily, and ask God to help all of us know what more we can do in an organized way to provide for every citizen and even those who pass through our city. We need to think about our family being more than those who sleep under our rooves and eat at our tables.  A meeting to address the skills and abilities that women have to offer to this cause and how best to use them, will be held Tuesday, May 4th at 6:30pm at 2425 S. Crysler Avenue, upper level parking.

Pam Boehler gave an opening prayer. Josie Catlett offered the closing prayer. Thirteen members present.

As IIAW Communications Secretary I pray this information is beneficial to all Initiative Friends and the community at large.
