Raising funds for Pushkal

Raising funds for Pushkal
Dear Saints,
I recall the generosity of the saints 4 years ago after the earthquakes in Nepal. Hopefully the same spirit of giving will help meet another critical need in Nepal today.
One of our pastors, Elder Pushkal Gadel, is scheduled for open heart surgery at Bangalore, India. The cost of this operation in $15,000 U.S. dollars.
Pushkal and his wife Radha have one son, Samuel, who is about 5 years old. Their home is in Fikkal, Ilam, which is located in Eastern Nepal.
Pushkal recently built a home in their village which also serves as the house of worship for the Fikkal Restoration Branch; one of the largest in Nepal. Brother Pushkal fears that it may be necessary to sell their home to pay for his surgery.
As they say, “many hands make light work.” The same could be said; many contributions, even though they may be small, will make this burden lighter.
Your contributions can be sent to:
Francis Harper, Missionary Account
521 Walker Street
Woodbine IA 51579
The funds contributed will then be wired to the Church Account in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity; for God loveth a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).
Thank you,
Francis

Francis Harper Message for 1/25/2019
Dear Ones,
I trust that you will be blessed as you read this beautiful true story. Father John Powell, a professor at Loyola University, Chicago, writes about Tommy, a student in his Theology of Faith class:
“Some twelve years ago, I stood watching my university students file into the classroom for our first session. That was the day I first saw Tommy. He was combing his long flaxen hair, which hung six inches below his shoulders. It was the first time I had ever seen a boy with hair that long. I guess it was just coming into fashion then. I know in my mind that it isn’t what’s on your head but what’s in it that counts; but on that day, I was unprepared and my emotions flipped.
I immediately filed Tommy under “S” for strange . . . very strange. Tommy turned out to be the “atheist in residence” in this class. He constantly objected to, smirked at, or whined about the possibility of an unconditionally loving Father/God. We lived with each other in relative peace for one semester, although I admit he was for me at times a serious pain in the back pew.
When he came up at the end of the course to turn in his final exam, he asked in a cynical tone, “Do you think I’ll ever find God?” I decided instantly on a little shock therapy. “No!” I said very emphatically. “Why not,” he responded, “I thought that was the product you were pushing.” I let him get five steps from the classroom door and then I called out, “Tommy! I don’t think you’ll ever find Him, but I am absolutely certain that He will find you!” He shrugged a little and left my class and my life.
Later I heard that Tommy had graduated, and I was duly grateful. Then a sad report came. I heard that Tommy had terminal cancer. Before I could search him out, he came to see me. When he walked into my office, his body was very badly wasted and the long hair had fallen out as a result of chemotherapy. But his eyes were bright and his voice was firm.
“Tommy, I’ve thought about you so often; I hear you are sick,” I blurted out. “Oh, yes, very sick. I have cancer in both lungs. It’s a matter of weeks.” “Can you talk about it, Tom?” I asked. “Sure, what would you like to know?” he replied. “What’s it like to be only twenty-four and dying? Well, it could be worse. “Like what?” “Well, like being fifty and having no values or ideals, like being fifty and thinking that booze, seducing women, and making money are the real biggies in life.” “But what I really came to see you about,” Tom said, “is something you said to me on the last day of class.” “I asked you if you thought I would ever find God and you said, ‘No!’ which surprised me. Then you said, ‘But He will find you.’ I thought about that a lot, even though my search for God was hardly intense at that time. “But when the doctors removed a lump from my groin and told me that it was malignant, that’s when I got serious about locating God. And when the malignancy spread into my vital organs, I really began banging bloody fists against the bronze doors of heaven. “But God did not come out. In fact, nothing happened. Did you ever try anything for a long time with great effort and with no success? “You get psychologically glutted, fed up with trying. And then you quit.
“Well, one day I woke up, and instead of throwing a few more futile appeals over that high brick wall to a God who may be or may not be there, I just quit. I thought about you and your class, and I remembered something else you had said: ‘The essential sadness is to go through life without loving.’ “But it would be almost equally sad to go through life and leave this world without ever telling those you loved that you had loved them. “So, I began with the hardest one, my Dad. He was reading the newspaper when I approached him. ‘Dad.’ ‘Yes, what?’ he asked without lowering the newspaper. “Dad, I would like to talk with you.” ‘Well, talk.’ ‘I mean, it’s really important.’ “The newspaper came down three slow inches. ‘What is it?’ ‘Dad, I love you, I just wanted you to know that.’ “The newspaper fluttered to the floor. Then my father did two things I could never remember him ever doing before. He cried, and he hugged me. “We talked all night, even though he had to go to work the next morning. “It felt so good to be close to my father, to see his tears, to feel his hug, to hear him say that he loved me. “It was easier with my mother and little brother. They cried with me, too, and we hugged each other and started saying real nice things to each other. We shared the things we had been keeping secret for so many years. “I was only sorry about one thing- that I had waited so long. “Here I was, just beginning to open up to all the people I had actually been close to.
“Then, one day I turned around and God was there. “He didn’t come to me when I pleaded with Him. I guess I was like an animal trainer holding out a hoop, ‘C’mon, jump through. C’mon, I’ll give you three days, three weeks.’ “Apparently God does things in His own way and at His own hour. “But the important thing is that He was there. He found me! You were right. He found me even after I stopped looking for Him.”
“Tommy,” I practically gasped, “I think you are saying something very important and much more universal than you realize. To me, at least, you are saying that the surest way to find God is by opening to love. “You know, the Apostle John said that. He said: ‘God is love,’ and anyone who lives in love is living with God and God is living in him. “Tom, could I ask you a favor? Would you come into my present Theology of Faith class and tell them what you have just told me? If I told them the same thing it wouldn’t be half as effective as if you were to tell it.” “Oooh . . . I was ready for you, but I don’t know if I’m ready for your class.” “Tom, think about it. If and when you are ready, give me a call.” In a few days Tom called, and said he was ready for the class, and that he wanted to do that for God and for me. So we scheduled a date. However, he never made it. He had another appointment, far more important than the one with me and my class. Of course, his life was not really ended by his death, only changed.
Before he died, we talked one last time. “I’m not going to make it to your class,” he said. “I know, Tom.” “Will you tell them for me? Will you tell the whole world for me?” “I will, Tom. I’ll tell them. I’ll do my best.”

“. . . The Greatest of These is Charity”
As we consider the virtues of those who will be qualified to live with the Lord in his millennial kingdom; surely the greatest of these is charity.
Charity has been defined for us: “Charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with them. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his Son Jesus Christ, that ye may become the sons of God, that when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is, that we may have this hope, that we may be purified as he is pure” (Moroni 7:52-53).
These words of Moroni are in complete harmony with the words of John, the beloved, who wrote: “. . . we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure” (1 John 3:2-3).
The supreme virtue is love. Perhaps the greatest treatise on love ever written is recorded in 1 Corinthians 13: “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up. Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth. Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth; but whether there be prophecies they shall fail, whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. . . . And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity” (1 Corinthians 1-8, 13).
John counsels us: “Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not, knoweth not God; for God is love.
. . . If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar; . . . and this commandment have we from him, that he who loveth God love his brother also” (1 John 4:7-8, 20-21).
Jesus was asked: “Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it; thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets” (Matthew 22:35-39).
What more need I add to these inspired words? It has been my experience that it is only when I am filled with the Holy Spirit that I possess the Lord’s celestial love. Our utmost desire should be that we be filled with the Spirit of the Lord always. Our prayer request should be as was prayed by his disciples in ancient America: “. . . and they did pray for that which they most desired; and they desired that the Holy Ghost should be given unto them” (3 Nephi 9:10).

House Fox Investment Opportunity for Saints
Saints,
I’d like to take the opportunity to introduce us. My name is Ted Cox IV. I was born and raised in Independence, MO and have attended Parkview Community of Christ my entire life. My brother-in-law, Gabriel Monroy was also raised in Independence, MO and attended several congregations within the Center Stake (Eden Heights, New Hope and now Parkview).
Gabe founded our company (House Fox) several years ago. We are local real estate investors with a mission to help make a difference in people’s lives. Often times we are contacted by owners that going through difficult situations where they are on the brink of losing their homes or struggling to make the bills and want to sell quickly.
We come across houses on a regular basis that we either are not interested in rehabbing or adding to our own rental portfolios. We buy these properties and clean the titles up through our title company. We then forward these on to investors that we have established relationships over the last few years.
For the last several years I have been forwarded Garland’s email by either my father, Ted Cox III or by my father-in-law, Vic Monroy. It wasn’t until recent that I thought of the Saints that might be planning their gathering.
We would like to offer these properties to you as Saints to either rehab for additional income, build a rental portfolio for additional income or even rehab for your own families to live in. Regardless the goal is to provide more opportunities for other to assist in gathering to the Center Place.
If you or someone you know are interested in purchasing a property at a discounted rate, please feel free to reach out to us. We will be happy to share with you what we have available!

Tetrad - The Last Blood Moon of this Series (01/21/2019)
Just wanted to drop a note and remind folks of a very interesting celestial occurrence will take place this Sunday night beginning at 9:34 p.m. and ending Monday morning at 12:51 a.m.
No other Tetrad in History from 3,000 BC to 2013, 14, 15 AD Displays this PERFECT SYMMETRY.
Psalm 19 King James Version (KJV)
19 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
Interesting signs in the heavens...
The fourth day of creation (4 is significant = "appointed times")
Genesis 1 King James Version (KJV)
14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
Stay safe and keep warm while attempting to view the eclipse; sad to say, we may have cloud cover which may preclude our witnessing of this event.
Much love,
Pat Baggette

Francis Harper Message for 1/18/2019
Dear Ones,
Some of you may have heard or read this testimony before but the message certainly bears repeating!
“I Am Coming Soon”
Testimony of Marty Vreden
For many years, Marty was a police officer in Harrisonburg, Virginia; Rockingham County, near West Virginia and the Appalachian Mountains. The stress of his occupation, added to his other health issues, culminated in an acute respiratory failure on July 17, 2015.
On that morning, his wife took him to the emergency room at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. After a battery of tests in the ER, he was transferred to the critical care unit. While enroute to the CCU, he stopped breathing and went into code blue. This was fully documented by the medical personnel involved.
The first encounter with the Lord – July 17, 2015
After going into code blue, Marty experienced the sensation of moving very rapidly through a tunnel. When he emerged from the tunnel, he immediately heard the voice of the Lord. The voice was undeniable and unmistakable. It was the voice of the Lord. He said, “My church does not really believe that I am coming back soon.” He repeated those same words a second time, and a third time. He said, “My church does not really believe that I am coming back soon.” The third time the words were spoken with more volume and more passion than before: “MY CHURCH DOES NOT REALLY BELIEVE I AM COMING BACK SOON!”
At this point Marty said, “Lord, Lord, we do believe you are coming back soon. We sing about it, preach about it, teach about it . . . .” But the Lord replied, “MY CHURCH DOES NOT BELIEVE I AM COMING BACK SOON, FOR IF THEY DID, THEY WOULD NOT BE LIVING LIKE THEY ARE!”
Then he said, very lovingly, “I AM COMING BACK SOON AND MY CHURCH IS NOT READY.” He continued, “Now you go back and tell the things you have heard, and know that your message will not be received.”
The first year Marty did not go public with the news of his experience. He felt he should go to the pastors first. He shared with about 50 pastors privately. Just as the Lord had said, the message was not received by the pastors, but there was one disabled pastor of a backwoods church who invited him to come preach. He preached to about twelve people. The Lord moved powerfully and touched the hearts and lives of the people who heard his message that morning.
The second encounter with the Lord – August 14, 2015
On August 14, 2015 Marty was transferred from Rockingham Memorial Hospital to the University of Virginia Transitional Care Facility. During his first night there he had his second encounter with the Lord. He, like the Apostle Paul, could say, “Whether in the body or out of the body,” he could not say.
After falling asleep, he saw an oval shaft of light that grew in size and intensity. Suddenly Marty realized he was standing in a huge football stadium, but he was the only person there. He saw a football sitting on the two-yard line. When he looked at the scoreboard, he saw the numbers 2:13. Then he heard the same voice he had heard before, saying, “My church should be living as though this is a two-minute warning.”
The Lord knew Marty would understand the significance of a two-minute warning in an NFL (National Football League) game. He knew Marty was a huge football fan. Marty realized that in that last 120 seconds, with the ball on the two-yard line, victory or defeat would be determined. The referee was about to blow the whistle.
The next morning, Marty was back in his wheelchair again. He was thinking of his vision, and the two-minute warning, when he heard a knock on the door of his room. He responded, “Come in,” and two ladies entered. One was a physical therapist and the other an occupational therapist. After some discussion, related to their specialties, the physical therapist asked Marty, “Do you consider yourself a man of faith?” His response was, “I certainly have not lived it; I have made a lot of mistakes. I have had a lot of failures, but I am a follower of Jesus.”
The women smiled at each other, and one said, “We had no intention of coming to see you this morning. As we were on our way to see other patients and we came by your room, we saw super-imposed upon your door the number two. We wondered about the meaning of this strange thing. We were prompted by the Spirit to come in and ask you.” Marty responded with, “The Lord is coming soon. The two-minute warning has sounded.” It had sounded only hours before.
After the first year, doors have started to open, giving Marty more opportunities to share his testimony. Later, while praying in his living room one day, he asked the Lord, “Why did I see 2:13 instead of just the number 2?” The Lord told him to turn to Titus 2:13: “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ.”
My Love to All,
Francis Harper

“Be Ye Also Ready”
“. . . be ye also ready; for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of Man cometh” (Matthew 24:51 IV; 24: 44 KJV).
If Jesus came today would we be ready? If the Lord himself would descend from heaven with a shout today, would we be among those who would be caught up to meet him in the clouds? See 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17. See also Jude 1:14 and Revelation 1:7.
Those of us who are not yet prepared for his coming need to consider how devastating it would be to discover we had not been gathered with some of our loved ones to meet the Lord and the ten thousands of saints he will bring with him!
Do we understand the critical importance of our readiness at the time of the Lord’s coming? Paul seemed to understand. His words may help us; “. . . I have suffered the loss of all things and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him [And he in me] . . . that I may know him . . . and the fellowship of his sufferings . . . If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the just. Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect; but I follow after . . . I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:8-14).
In response to the question, “What is the sign of thy coming?” Jesus gave many signs that are recorded in Matthew 24 and also in Luke, chapters 17 and 21. Then in Matthew 25 he shares with his disciples the parable of the ten virgins. The virgins quite likely represent the baptized members of the church. The sudden appearance of the Bridegroom will be a complete surprise to many members of the church. The wise will be prepared. The foolish will not be ready! The foolish will say, “My Lord delayeth his coming” or ask, “Where is the promise of his coming?” Some will procrastinate “until it is everlastingly too late” (Helaman 5:51). The Bridegroom will say to them “ye know me not” (Matthew 25:11 IV; 4:1 KJV). The wise virgins will know Jesus. The foolish will only know about him!
Who then will be ready at the time of the Lord’s coming? The Apostle John sums up the recipe of our readiness in fewer words than Paul. He simply said: “We know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him . . . And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure” (1 John 3:2-3). Before the Lord’s departure from the land Bountiful, he asked the people a rhetorical question: “Therefore, what manner of men had ye ought to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am . . .” (3 Nephi 13:5).
If you, or a person you know, has not been baptized this should not be delayed. Jesus said, “Verily, Verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water, and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God” (John 3:5). Until we are filled with the Holy Spirit we cannot achieve Christlikeness.
Charity is of utmost importance in those who will be ready to meet the Lord. “Charity is the pure love of Christ . . . and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with them (Moroni 7:52).
The Lord described the faithful and wise servant as the one who watcheth, to impart his portion of meat in due season. Blessed be that servant whom his Lord shall find, when he cometh, so doing” (Luke 12:50-52 IV; 12:42-43 KJV).
And remember, last of all: “Without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Hebrews 11:6).
“Yea, come unto Christ and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in no wise deny the power of God” (Moroni 10:29).
