ECC Job Opportunity
Our Lady of the Presentation Early Childhood Center in Lees Summit, MO, is looking for a Pre-K teacher for the upcoming school year (begins August 19th). Candidates must have a degree in education or a related field and be able to work Mon-Fri, 8:00am-5:00pm. Please send indication of interest and resume to:
ckoob@olpls.org
I am currently a teacher at the ECC and it is an amazing place to work, even for someone who is not Catholic! We are able to talk about God and the Bible and work with other women who have beliefs and are wonderful to work with. I have worked and observed in many preschools and this is the nicest, calmest place I've ever been. The families, for the most part, are very easy to work with and the kids are amazing! This has been a huge blessing in my life and would be a great opportunity for the right person.

Solemn Assembly - August 17
Waldo Avenue Restoration Branch would like to invite you to a
Solemn Assembly
Saturday, August 17, 2019, at 6:00 PM
This invitation is to all saints in any of the branches or groups who wish to draw together in unity with Jesus Christ to petition for his help and deliverance of the church from its bondage, and to cry out with united prayer and fasting for the redemption of Israel. There is no agenda, only coming together in humility before the Lord to confess our sins and seek his face.
Please pass along this invitation to others who may not receive this e-mail distribution.
Joel 2:12-13 “Therefore, also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning;
And rend your heart and not your garments, and repent, and turn unto the Lord, your God; for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness; and he will turn away the evil from you.”

Waldo August 2019 Theme
For this coming month of August, we have chosen a theme at the Waldo Avenue Restoration Branch: “Be Transformed in the Person of Jesus Christ.” The idea is that we approach every situation by asking, “Lord, help me to act in the person of Jesus Christ – as Jesus would respond if he were standing in my place.”
We have also asked for a commitment from every individual to go through the daily scripture calendar that relates to the topic and try to put it into practice every day.
Follow the link below to see the scripture calendar which includes further explanation regarding the theme. For any who wish to participate, I would encourage you to go through these scriptures in the month of August.

Columbia Restoration Branch Building

Columbia Restoration Branch Building
COLUMBIA RESTORATION BRANCH
2410 Parker Street
Columbia MO 65202
Dear Saints:
The Columbia Restoration Branch has been meeting at the Sunrise Optimist Club since the late 1980’s. An opportunity to purchase a church building at auction has opened for us. Pictures of the building along with information regarding the property and location are attached. The auction begins July 31 and closes August 13. On Sunday, July 21, 2019, we voted to pursue placing a bid on the property. We have learned that the seller expects to accept a bid between $250,000 and $400,000. We hope to be able to offer a maximum bid of $300,00-350,000 in order to be competitive in the auction.
The Branch voted to apply an estimated amount of $170,000 toward a down payment on the building should we win the auction. Before making the decision to pursue this building, we surveyed the current members regarding anticipated contributions should we obtain the building. Pledges were given amounting to $2,150 per month. As a Branch, we decided we are comfortable setting aside $1,500 of this expected income towards a loan to cover the remainder of the cost of the building. This leaves us with $650 each month in addition to other donations that are received to apply toward operating costs and other Branch expenses.
This means that in order to post a competitive bid, we need to find a way to finance $150,000 - $180,000 by loan or donation.
The benefits we hope for in pursuing this opportunity include:
1. obtaining a sanctuary set apart for worship, prayer, education, and fellowship
2. obtaining more suitable class space for the youth
3. having a place where youth groups passing through or visiting can stay
4. having a space for outdoor worship and fellowship activities
5. expanding our outreach and invitation to the community to come unto Christ
6. creating a home and sense of permanence of the restored gospel in Columbia
7. strengthening the bonds of trust among our members and those branches who help us.
If you are interested in partnering with us, please contact me by phone or email. In order for us to include all possible commitments in our calculations of our maximum bid, we need to account for all commitments by August 11. We would not actually need the money until September 11.
Thank you for your interest and support, prayerful and otherwise. May God bless you and prepare us for the glorious return of His Son, Jesus Christ.
Sincerely,
B.J. Schultz, on behalf of the Columbia Restoration Branch.

AUSTRALIAN RESTORATION NEWS AUGUST, 2019

AUSTRALIAN RESTORATION NEWS AUGUST, 2019
Around and About the Centre Place by High Priest Paul J. Gage, Independence, Missouri.
Greetings to each and every Saint in Australia,
We trust the Good Shepherd is continuing to guide and direct each of His sheep down under. It is well known, that each day has its own struggles and turmoils that we go through. This is fulfillment of scriptures such as I Peter 1:5-9 where Peter is speaking to the "elect." Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, Australia, and Bithynia, Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you and peace be multiplied. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you; Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time-- Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations, That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise, and honor, and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ, Whom, having not seen, ye love, in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing. Ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory, receiving the object of your faith, even the salvation of your souls."
The work of preparation and the perfection of my Saints go forward slowly, and Zionic conditions are no further away nor any closer than the spiritual condition of my people justifies; but my word shall not fail, neither will my promises; for the foundation of the Lord standeth sure.
We were privileged to have Saints from thirteen states in the USA as well as four countries, including the USA here for the reunion. Seventy Juan and Tina Reyes from Mexico, Elder Eric and Pam Odida from Kenya and Ram Baral, a native of Nepal who now lives in South Carolina. All classes and sermons can be viewed on the Waldo Avenue RB website.
The CRE is now preparing for the annual Priesthood Retreat in Kirtland, Ohio, September 14-15, 2019. The Pastors of Zion (POZ) sponsored Summer Series will continue through and conclude with the Youth Service on August 11, 2019.
Center Place Restoration School will begin another school year around August 20th. Dan Schoenemann continues as school administrator.
All missionary boards continue active. Mission trips are planned through the fall and winter to Africa, England, Germany, India, Nepal the Philippines and possibly Russia. Domestic Outreach also continues to offer ministry in the USA and Canada. Feel free to contact the SEAAM Board for any needs or concerns in Australia. Kevin Humphrey and Tom Rindels are now on the SEAAM Board as well as Jack Hagensen, Bob Schrunk and others.
The following is a summary of the Conference/Reunion held June 23-28, 2019.
Conference of Restoration Elders (CRE) 2019 Summary
by Conference Secretary
Elder David Joyce, Morgantown, West Virginia
Seventy-five elders were seated at the 2019 Conference of Restoration Elders’ June conference. Over the course of the week, the men met in session for four days as well as meeting for a Friday sharing service. Elder Vim Horn chaired the conference and welcomed reports from the various CRE Councils and Missionary Boards. The elders and guests in attendance bore testimony of a wonderful spirit which accompanied the news of activities and ministry that had taken place throughout the past year. What a beautiful atmosphere ushered in the week’s business as we joined together and listened to ongoing and upcoming programs and projects that will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the lives of Saints and friends around the world. The conference approved a budget for the 2019 Reunion/Conference week of $11,340 (which was met through reunion offerings) as well as the CRE 2020 budget of $74,400. Several major points of business were brought to the floor by the various quorums and councils. Those items of business included the Reestablishment of the “Youth Missionary Corp” (YMC), which harks back to the 1990’s as a program to facilitate opportunity for youth witness. This included financial support of $25,000 from the CRE to help fund the YMC. Another major piece of business was that the CRE support the establishment of “Freedom Stewardship Ministries,” a program of debt reduction for individuals within the branches of the Church. Details on these programs are available in the conference minutes as well as in upcoming articles in “Tidings of Zion.”
In addition to approving officers and members to serve on the CRE Councils, the conference approved three other legislative items. First that the CRE donate $10,000 to support the Center Place Restoration School (CPRS) matching funds project toward sanctuary renovation at the CPRS site. The CRE would also extend the lease on the office space it was using for an additional two years at its current rate. Finally, the Youth Council would direct its focus on ministry to areas outside the Center Place and be composed of members from regions in those geographic areas.
The Elders in attendance on Tuesday were privileged to show approval of a motion recognizing Elder Frank Dippel as Seventy in the Church based on his ordination in 1982. There was some explanation by Seventy Richard Neill about why Brother Frank was led in the late 1980’s to part ways with the RLDS leadership in respect to this office as he was unable to support many of the programs and direction of the church at that time. Like many in the Restoration who trace their priesthood authority to a time prior to silencing, etc. from the world church, there was great joy and a tremendous outpouring of the Spirit as many testimonies were shared along with a show of support recognizing Frank’s ministry in the office of Seventy.
There seemed to be no distinction between the objectives of the conference and the objectives of the entire reunion experience as we moved from business to worship under the theme “Be Ye Transformed.” A great big “Thank You” to those who spent uncounted hours preparing for and listening to the leadings of the Spirit in making this Conference/Reunion week an uplifting and encouraging experience for all who attended. We look forward to gathering together again with the Saints on June 21, 2020 for our next In Town Reunion and Conference

Riches From The Scriptures by Elder Neil Kerswell, Queensland, Australia
Vol 4 Chapter 2 Call upon the Lord Always
Some of you will have had the privilege of worshipping God in a dedicated Church building for all, or most of your lives. For those who have, may you always cherish that you have been blessed in this way. Some of you like me have worshipped in churches, rented halls, sheds, fields, parks and homes. Personally, I have known and seen rich blessings in all these church fellowship environments, and have come to understand it is the attitude, desires, and spiritual condition of the people which relates us to God wherever we may find ourselves. I have also found where there is outreach opportunity God meets us in special ways. I would like to now share some scripture relating to our need to always call upon God wherever we are and at all times.
[Ether 1:36] And now I proceed with my record; for behold it came to pass that the Lord did bring Jared and his brethren forth even to that great sea which divideth the lands.
[Ether 1:37] And as they came to the sea, they pitched their tents; and they called the name of the place Moriancumer; and they dwelt in tents; and dwelt in tents upon the sea-shore for the space of four years.
[Ether 1:38] And it came to pass at the end of four years, that the Lord came again unto the Brother of Jared, and stood in a cloud and talked with him.
[Ether 1:39] And for the space of three hours did the Lord talk with the Brother of Jared, and chastened him because he remembered not to call upon the name of the Lord.
[Ether 1:40] And the Brother of Jared repented of the evil which he had done, and did call upon the name of the Lord for his brethren who were with him.
[Ether 1:41] And the Lord said unto him, I will forgive thee and thy brethren of their sins; but thou shalt not sin any more, for ye shall remember that my Spirit will not always strive with man; wherefore if ye will sin until ye are fully ripe, ye shall be cut off from the presence of the Lord.
[Ether 1:42] And these are my thoughts upon the land which I shall give you for your inheritance; for it shall be a land choice above all other lands.
[Ether 1:43] And the Lord said, Go to work and build, after the manner of barges which ye have hitherto built.
[Ether 1:44] And it came to pass that the Brother of Jared did go to work, and also his brethren, and built barges after the manner which they had built, according to the instructions of the Lord.
The Jaredites completed the part of their journey to the great sea that divided the lands, once there they relaxed, taking rest for four years. During this time they became complacent and even the Brother of Jared was beginning to forget to call upon God. This brought about the need for God to call upon him,
chastening him, calling him to repentance and refocussing the whole group on their God given goal of getting to the Promised Land which was choice above all others. There was a condition, they were not to sin anymore, because God’s Spirit will not always strive with man, and if they sinned until they were fully ripened in iniquity, they would be cut off from God’s presence. Have you the reader ever fallen into the trap of becoming complacent?
[Alma 16:124] Now as Alma was teaching and speaking unto the people upon the hill Onidah, there came a great multitude unto him, who were those of whom we have been speaking, who were poor in heart, because of their poverty as to the things of the world.
[Alma 16:125] And they came unto Alma; and the one who was the foremost among them, said unto him, Behold, what shall these my brethren do, for they are despised of all men, because of their poverty; yea, and more especially by our priests;
[Alma 16:126] For they have cast us out of our synagogues, which we have labored abundantly to build, with our own hands; and they have cast us out because of our exceeding poverty, and we have no place to worship our God; and behold, what shall we do?
[Alma 16:127] And now when Alma heard this, he turned him about, his face immediately towards him, and he beheld, with great joy; for he beheld that their afflictions had truly humbled them, and that they were in a preparation to hear the word;
[Alma 16:128] Therefore he did say no more to the other multitude, but he stretched forth his hand, and cried unto those whom he beheld, who were truly penitent, and said unto them, I behold that ye are lowly in heart; and if so, blessed are ye.
[Alma 16:129] Behold thy brother hath said, What shall we do? for we are cast out of our synagogues, that we cannot worship our God.
[Alma 16:130] Behold, I say unto you, Do ye suppose that ye cannot worship God, save it be in your synagogues only?
[Alma 16:131] And moreover, I would ask, Do ye suppose that ye must not worship God only once in a week?
[Alma 16:132] I say unto you, It is well that ye are cast out of your synagogues, that ye may be humble, and that ye may learn wisdom; for it is necessary that ye should learn wisdom;
[Alma 16:133] For it is because that ye are cast out, that ye are despised for your brethren, because of your exceeding poverty that ye are brought to a lowliness of heart; for ye are necessarily brought to be humble.
[Alma 16:134] And now because ye are compelled to be humble, blessed are ye; for a man sometimes, if he is compelled to be humbled, seeketh repentance;
[Alma 16:135] And now surely, whosoever repenteth shall find mercy; and he that findeth mercy and endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.
[Alma 16:136] And now as I said unto you, that because ye were compelled to be humble, ye were blessed, do ye not suppose that they are more blessed who truly humble themselves because of the word?
[Alma 16:137] Yea, he that truly humbleth himself and repenteth of his sins, and endureth to the end, the same be blessed; yea, much more blessed than they who are compelled to be humble, because of their exceeding poverty; therefore blessed are they who humble themselves without being compelled to be humble,
[Alma 16:138] Or rather, in other words, Blessed is he that believeth in the word of God, and is baptized without stubbornness of heart; yea, without being brought to know the word, or even compelled to know, before they will believe.
We can see the wisdom of Alma’s counsel. He was sensitive to their situation and condition before God. Previously he had been trying to get through to very stubborn people, and now presented before him is a group of people who because of their poverty were humble and ready to hear the word of God. Alma is much pleased with this as it is relating them to God through the humility they have learnt through their difficult circumstances. He is quick to tell them however that it is much better to humble ourselves and repent of our sins because we have a heart to serve and have heeded God’s word using our agency for good. In both circumstances whether we are compelled to be humble, or willingly humble ourselves, it must lead to Repentance and we must endure to the end. Alma asks the question “Do ye suppose that ye cannot worship God, save it be in your synagogues only?”
Alma 16:175] And Alma said unto them, Behold, ye have said that ye could not worship your God, because ye are cast out of your synagogues.
[Alma 16:176] But behold, I say unto you, If ye suppose that ye cannot worship God, ye do greatly err, and ye ought to search the scriptures; if ye suppose that they have taught you this, ye do not understand them.
[Alma 16:177] Do ye remember to have read what Zenos, the prophet of old, has said concerning prayer or worship?
[Alma 16:178] For he said, Thou art merciful O God, for thou hast heard my prayer, even when I was in the wilderness: yea, thou wast merciful when I prayed concerning those who were mine enemies, and thou didst turn them to me:
[Alma 16:179] Yea, O God, and thou wast merciful unto me when I did cry unto thee in my field; when I did cry unto thee in my prayer, and thou didst hear me.
[Alma 16:180] And again, O God, when I did turn to my house thou didst hear me in my prayer.
[Alma 16:181] And when I did turn unto my closet, O Lord, and prayed unto thee, thou didst hear me; yea, thou art merciful unto thy children when they cry unto thee to be heard of thee, and not of men, and thou wilt hear them;
[Alma 16:182] Yea, O God, thou hast been merciful unto me and heard my cries in the midst of thy congregations; yea, and thou hast also heard me when I have been cast out, and have been despised by mine enemies;
[Alma 16:183] Yea, thou didst hear my cries, and wast angry with mine enemies, and thou didst visit them in thine anger, with speedy destruction; and thou didst hear me because of mine afflictions and my sincerity;
[Alma 16:184] And it is because of thy Son that thou hast been thus merciful unto me; therefore I will cry unto thee in all mine afflictions; for in thee is my joy; for thou hast turned thy judgments away from me, because of thy Son.
[Alma 16:185] And now Alma said unto them, Do ye believe those scriptures which have been written by them of old?
[Alma 16:186] Behold, if ye do, ye must believe what Zenos said; for behold, he said, Thou hast turned away thy judgments, because of thy Son.
[Alma 16:187] Now, behold, my brethren, I would ask, if ye have read the scriptures? If ye have, how can ye disbelieve on the Son of God?
[Alma 16:188] For it is not written that Zenos alone spake of these things, but Zenock also spake of these things; for behold, he said, Thou art angry, O Lord, with this people, because they will not understand of thy mercies which thou hast bestowed upon them, because of thy Son.
[Alma 16:189] And now my brethren, ye see that a second prophet of old has testified of the Son of God; and because the people would not understand his words, they stoned him to death.
[Alma 16:190] But behold, this is not all; these are not the only ones who have spoken concerning the Son of God.
[Alma 16:191] Behold, he was spoken of by Moses; yea, and behold, a type was raised up in the wilderness, that whosoever would look upon it might live. And many did look and live.
[Alma 16:192] But few understood the meaning of those things, and this because of the hardness of their hearts.
[Alma 16:193] But there were many who were so hardened that they would not look; therefore they perished.
[Alma 16:194] Now the reason they would not look, was because they did not believe that it would heal them.
[Alma 16:195] O my brethren, if ye could be healed by merely casting about your eyes, that ye might be healed, would ye not behold quickly, or would ye rather harden your hearts in unbelief, and be slothful, that ye would not cast about your eyes, that ye might perish?
[Alma 16:196] If so, who shall come upon you; but if not so, then cast about your eyes and begin to believe in the Son of God, that he will come to redeem his people, and that he shall suffer and die to atone for their sins;
[Alma 16:197] And that he shall rise again from the dead, which shall bring to pass the resurrection, that all men shall stand before him, to be judged, at the last and judgment day, according to their works.
[Alma 16:198] And now my brethren, I desire that ye shall plant this word in your hearts, and as it beginneth to swell, even so nourish it by your faith.
[Alma 16:199] And behold, it will become a tree, springing up in you unto everlasting life.
[Alma 16:200] And then may God grant unto you that your burdens may be light, through the joy of his Son. And even all this can ye do, if ye will. Amen
I am in awe as I read the counsel and scriptures quoted by Alma, they inspire to faith and lift our spirit towards God. We certainly don’t need a church building to worship God. In fact according to these scriptures we can worship God, anywhere, anytime and under whatever circumstances we find ourselves in. Even when despised and cast out by our enemies. It reminds me of another scripture from the bible.

5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

[Alma 16:125] And they came unto Alma; and the one who was the foremost among them, said unto him, Behold, what shall these my brethren do, for they are despised of all men, because of their poverty; yea, and more especially by our priests;
[Alma 16:126] For they have cast us out of our synagogues, which we have labored abundantly to build, with our own hands; and they have cast us out because of our exceeding poverty, and we have no place to worship our God; and behold, what shall we do?
[Alma 16:127] And now when Alma heard this, he turned him about, his face immediately towards him, and he beheld, with great joy; for he beheld that their afflictions had truly humbled them, and that they were in a preparation to hear the word;
[Alma 16:132] I say unto you, It is well that ye are cast out of your synagogues, that ye may be humble, and that ye may learn wisdom; for it is necessary that ye should learn wisdom;
[Alma 16:133] For it is because that ye are cast out, that ye are despised for your brethren, because of your exceeding poverty that ye are brought to a lowliness of heart; for ye are necessarily brought to be humble.
[Alma 16:134] And now because ye are compelled to be humble, blessed are ye; for a man sometimes, if he is compelled to be humbled, seeketh repentance;

[Alma 16:196] If so, who shall come upon you; but if not so, then cast about your eyes and begin to believe in the Son of God, that he will come to redeem his people, and that he shall suffer and die to atone for their sins;
Amen

1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled by letter, except ye receive it from us; neither by spirit, nor by word, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
3 Let no man deceive you by any means; for there shall come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God..
9 Yea, the Lord, even Jesus, whose coming is not until after there cometh a falling away, by the working of Satan with all power, and signs and lying wonders,
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

Francis Harper Message for 7/26/2019
Dear Ones,
The assembling of ourselves together at the annual reunions of the Lord’s people have brought great blessings to all who have attended them. The origin of these annual assemblies of the saints took place in the Kirtland [Ohio] temple. In April of 1883, Charles Derry presented a resolution to the conference proposing that in lieu of the annual fall conference, an annual fall reunion be held. The first was to be convened in Western Iowa during late September of 1883. The saints gathered for the first reunion at Leland’s Grove, midway between Portsmouth and Persia, Iowa. These early reunions were called World Reunions.
The second World Reunion was held at Garner’s Grove, west of Magnolia, Iowa, October 4-12, 1884. Reunion number two is described in Volume 4 of Church History. Joseph Smith III presided with an estimated attendance of near three thousand. Five hundred and fifty seven teams of horses / oxen were counted. Two deaths were also reported, a two year old child and Dorothy Fry. Dorothy was my great, great grandmother.
The family tried to persuade Grandmother Fry not to attend reunion that year due to her ill health. She responded: “I cannot think of a better place to die than with the saints.” She died on the last day of the 1884 reunion; kindly avoiding a disruption of this large assembly of saints. Now, in 2019, one hundred thirty-five years later, reunions are still being held in many places, bringing great blessings to all who gather to these annual love feasts.
I cannot begin to share all the blessings I have received at reunions in this short letter but one experience that lingers in my mind occurred in the summer of 1949. I enrolled at Graceland College in the fall of 1948. I still have a vivid memory of the first few weeks of my college career. I recall being in the library that was housed on the second floor of Briggs Hall in those days. I had gone there to study but was often distracted by students coming and going.
I remember how I was impressed by a young man who was one of Graceland’s most decorated athletes. He came striding into the library dressed in his full regalia, with letter sweater, and a key chain with many medals attached. The girls all seemed to notice him, too. I thought, “I’m going to have a letter sweater and a key chain, with medals attached, just as soon as I can.”
I was too light for football and too short for basketball, but when track season came my dream was fulfilled. I became a letterman. I also won a few medals, mostly second and third place medals, but who can tell from a distance anyway?
As was my custom, the next summer I attended the Saint’s Reunion at the Woodbine City Park. I appeared with letter sweater, key chain, and medals. What a spectacle I must have been! I can still remember walking down the aisle, almost to the front of the tent, giving everyone an opportunity to see me!
I recall thinking of the people gathered there as being hardly fit for my company. They were so common and earthy. I was spiritually sick and lost. When we are filled with pride, we cannot be humble and full of love!
When the saints began to sing, pray, and give their testimonies, something began to happen in me. I became uncomfortable with myself. I looked down at my chain with medals, and they didn’t seem appropriate for me to display anymore. My pride was being stripped from me. I took my decorations off and put them in my pocket. It was getting warm in the tent. I removed my letter sweater, too.
Suddenly, the common people became beautiful to me. They had the beauty of holiness! Now I could love them all. The transforming power of the Holy Ghost was present. My life was changed, and oh, how I needed it! Yet still today, the Holy Ghost has a work to do in me that I might be transfigured into the likeness of the Son of God. Touch me O God, with your holy purifying fire!
My Love to All,
High Priest Francis Harper

The Assembling of Ourselves Together
“. . . let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good words; Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as ye see the day [of His coming] approaching” (Hebrews 10:24-25).
The fourth commandment: “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work; But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God; in it thou shalt not do any work . . . For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day” (Exodus 20:8-11).
Shortly after Jesus began his ministry, “he came to Nazareth where he had been brought up; and as his custom was he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day . . .” (Luke 4:16). I believe he expects us to labor six days and on the seventh day, assemble ourselves together to worship; to encourage, to love all people and to do good works.
Do you attend church merely out of a sense of duty? Or do you go hungering and thirsting, anticipating the pleasure of being in the presence of the Holy Spirit and the fellowship of the Saints? “In thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand are pleasures for evermore” (Psalm 16:14). I recall an elderly lady saying, “I receive something from every sermon that is preached.” Evidently she expected to be spiritually nourished and was never disappointed.
“The Saints are to observe the first day of the week commonly called the Lord’s Day, as a day of rest: as a day of worship . . . and on this day they should refrain from unnecessary work; nevertheless, nothing should be permitted to go to waste on that day, nor should necessary work be neglected. Be not harsh in judgment but merciful in this, as in all other things. Be not hypocrites nor of those who make a man an offender for a word” (Doctrine and Covenants 119: 7-b-d).
“And there was one day in every week that was set apart that they should gather themselves together to teach the people, and to worship the Lord their God, and also as often as it was in their power, to assemble themselves together. And the priests were not to depend upon the people for their support . . .” (Mosiah 9:58-59).
Evidence the early Christians met for worship on the first day of the week is found in Acts 20:7: “And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them . . .”
After my sophomore year in high school, I got a job and was away from home for the first time. Now I could freely decide how I would spend the Lord’s day. My employers were good Methodists. They had promised to drop me off at the RLDS Church before they went to theirs. They would pick me up after the church service. One Sunday I decided to go horseback riding through an area of timber land on their farm instead of going to church. As I was enjoying my ride through this beautiful area, I began humming a familiar tune. Suddenly the lyrics dawned upon my mind: “Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord; abide in him always and feed on his word; make friends of God’s children, help those who are weak, forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.” I was touched by the Holy Spirit as I practically fell from my horse. On my knees, I asked the Lord to forgive me and I promised him I would be faithful in attending church every Lord’s day for the rest of my life. I have been richly blessed in keeping this covenant.

Francis Harper Message for 7/19/2019
Dear Ones,
We often wonder what we will be doing on the day of the Lord’s coming? “Perhaps you will be in your car driving home from work. Thoughts wander to the game you want to see or the meal you want to eat, when suddenly a sound, unlike any you have ever heard, fills the air. The sound is from high above you. A trumpet? A choir? A choir of trumpets? You don’t know, but you want to know. So you pull over, get out of your car and look up. As you do this you see that you are not the only curious one. The roadside has become a parking lot! Everything has come to a standstill.
“Everyone is looking up, searching the clouds. And what they see, and what you see has never been seen before. A brilliant light spills onto the earth. There are no shadows. None. Angels begin to fill the space above until they occupy every square inch of the sky – north, south, east and west. You can hear them singing, “Holy, Holy, Holy.” Suddenly the heavens are quiet.
“The angels turn, you turn, the entire world turns, and there he is – Jesus. Before you is a person so consuming, so overwhelming that you know, instantly you know, and nothing else matters. Forget stock markets and school reports. Forget sales meetings and football games. Nothing is newsworthy . . . all that mattered matters no more . . . for Jesus Christ has come!” (Author unknown)
It will be a day of fiery judgment for those who have failed to heed the call to prepare for the Lord’s return. See Malachi 4:1-3. Those who are prepared will be “arrayed in fine linen, clean and white; for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints” (Revelation 19:7).
“And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, be ye therefore ready also; for the Son of Man cometh at an hour when ye think not” (Luke 12:47; 12:40 KJV). “And they said, who then is that faithful and wise servant? And the Lord said unto them, it is that servant who watcheth to impart his portion of meat in due season. Blessed be that servant whom his Lord shall find, when he cometh, so doing. But the evil servant is he who is not found watching. And if that servant is not found watching, he will say in his heart, My Lord delayeth his coming . . . unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required” (Luke 12:50-54, 57 IV; 12:42-45, 48 KJV). What do you want to be doing on the day of the Lord’s coming?
We Shall Behold Him
The sky shall unfold
Preparing His entrance.
The stars shall applaud Him
With thunders of praise.
The sweet light in His eyes, shall enhance those awaiting
And we shall behold Him, then face to face.
O we shall behold Him, we shall behold Him
Face to face in all of His glory.
O we shall behold Him, yes, we shall behold Him
Face to face, our Savior and Lord!
The angel will sound, the shout of His coming,
And the sleeping shall rise, from their slumbering place.
And those remaining, shall be changed in a moment,
And we shall behold him, then face to face.
We shall behold Him, o yes, we shall behold Him
Face to face in all of His glory!
We shall behold Him, face to face,
Our Savior and Lord.
We shall behold Him, our Savior and Lord,
Savior and Lord!
My Love to All,
High Priest Francis Harper

“We Shall Behold Him”
Many are longing for the coming of the Lord and the establishment of his kingdom. I can identify with the words of Isaiah. I will paraphrase a bit. “O’ Lord we have waited for thee, your coming is the desire of our souls. With my soul I have desired thee in the night. Within my spirit I desire that you will come soon. And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him . . . this is the Lord we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation . . . the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces” (Isaiah 26: 8-9; 25:8-9).
When I received word of the death of our youngest granddaughter, I said, “Come, Lord Jesus!” These were the sentiments of the Apostle John as he closed his record in Revelation 22:20: “He which testifieth these things, saith, surely, I come quickly [suddenly]; Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”
Earlier John described the day all of the Lord’s people are waiting for: “And I John saw the holy city coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, the tabernacle [the dwelling place] of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away” (Revelation 21: 2-4).
Paul wrote of the Lord’s coming in glory: “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first; Then they who are alive, shall be caught up together into the clouds with them who remain, to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we be ever with the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).
Jude quotes a prophecy of Enoch: “And Enoch also, the seventh [generation] from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousand of his saints, to execute judgment upon all” (Jude 1:14-15). John also testified: “. . . behold, he cometh in the clouds with ten thousands of his saints in the kingdom, clothed with the glory of his Father, and every eye shall see him; and they who pierced him, and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him” (Revelation 1:7).
The saints who are living here on earth, when the Lord descends from heaven with the ten thousands, are mentioned by Paul in his letter to the Corinthians: “Behold, I show you a mystery: We shall not all sleep [die], but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the sound of the last trump; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal [body] must put on immortality” (1 Corinthians 15:51-53).
Our waiting for the Lord’s coming will not be in vain. He is faithful who has promised: “I will prepare a place for you, and come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am you may be also” (John 14:3). This is the good news. The bad news is that, relatively speaking, only a few will be caught up to meet the Lord. The vast majority of all the tribes of earth (shall) mourn” (Matthew 24:37 IV; 24: 30 KJV).

"The Christmas Card"
Just a friendly reminder, Saturday evening at 7 p.m. will be the showing of "The Christmas Card" for inspiration to write Christmas cards to G.I.'s. Francis Harper Message for 7/12/2019
Dear Ones,
Occasionally we grow tired of struggling against the natural man in us. We need to pray that our strength and vision be renewed, if this happens. I often think of these words of scripture: “From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life” (John 6:66-68). We must never forget the words of Jesus: “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh to the Father but by me” (John 14:6).
What If They Had Quit?
(A Dream)
Years ago I dreamed a dream, and in my dream five men – Peter, Andrew, Matthew, John, and Paul – were seated on a hillside, looking out over the Sea of Galilee. It was twenty years after the Day of Pentecost, and they had met by appointment to talk over a crisis in the lives and programs of three of their number.
The work was going hard with them. Paul had suffered the loss of all things; Peter had left all to follow Christ, and was finding it hard to support his family; and Matthew had just had a flattering offer at a large salary and an interest in the business to return to his old place in the customs house.
Peter, as usual, opened the discussion. He said: “My wife’s mother has opened a boarding-house in Capernaum; it will cost us almost nothing to live with her while we are getting started again, and I have a chance to buy back my interest in the fishing business. I can make a good living and a little more by fishing five days in the week, and I will have all my Sundays for evangelistic work in the cities around the lake. I am getting along in years and am afraid I can’t stand the pace at which I have been working. And then, too, I need the money.”
Paul said: “Aquilla and Priscilla have been greatly prospered in the tent-making business in Ephesus, and have offered me a position at a good salary to open a branch business in Philippi, and from there to work out and establish and supervise the business of the principal cities in Macedonia. I can do this work; it will not be any harder for me than the care of all the churches, and I will have all my Sundays for Christian work, and can lay by a little something for the rainy day, which I can see is coming.”
John, who was leaning against Peter, felt a big tear drop on his hand, and looking over at Paul, he saw his jaw set, the old fire come back into his eye, and the old war-horse look into his face, as he quietly said: “Men, I don’t think we need to talk about this any more; let us pray.”
And as they prayed, the things of time and sense receded; a light breeze rustled in the near-by tree-top, reminding them of that “rushing mighty wind” on the day of Pentecost and of the marvelous power with which Peter had preached the gospel on that day. They seemed also to see the Master himself standing on the shore just a few rods away, and to hear Him saying to them again, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a draught,” and “Fear not, from henceforth thou shalt catch men.”
They looked, and the evening caravan for Tyre was just swinging into sight. “Good-bye,” said Paul. “I must catch the next boat for Ephesus, and I will get Aquilla to put up the money for a campaign in that old city that will shake the whole of Asia.” “Good-bye,” said Peter. “Andrew and I will just say good-bye to the folks, and we will have time to join the midnight caravan for Babylon, and may go on East as far as the land of Sinim.”
“Good-bye,” said John, and he sat there alone till the stars came out and the waves on the beach, impelled by the rising wind, sounded like the voice of many waters, and he said to Him that stood by: “Lord, do not charge this thing against them. I have felt that way myself at times, as Thou knowest; and I would have left this work but for the fact that Thou didst prevent and strengthen me. They, too, are ready to live and to die for Thee, as I am. “And now, Lord, let us see Thee ever before us, ever to hear Thy voice and walk and work with Thee.
My Love to All,

Come, Walk With Me
The Lord invites each of us to come and walk with Him. He said to Enoch: “. . . abide in me, and I in you; therefore walk with me” (Genesis 6:35 IV).
“When we walk with the Lord in the light of His word, What a glory He sheds on our way! While we do His good will He abides with us still and with all who will trust and obey. . . . Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet, or we’ll walk by His side in the way; What He says we will do, Where He sends we will go, Never fear, only trust and obey” (Hymns of the Restoration #371).
Keeping in step with the will of God is our greatest challenge. The desires of the natural man are invariably opposed to the will of God. Even Jesus struggled in the Garden of Gethsemane. Submitting to the will of God is never easy for the natural man. Jesus prayed: “Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless, not my will, but thine be done” (Luke 22:42).
Peter boasted, “Lord, I am ready to go with you, both into prison and unto death” (Luke 22:33). “And the Lord said, I tell you, Peter, . . . the cock shall not crow this day, before . . . you will thrice deny that you know me” (Luke 22:33-34). Are we ready, are we able, to walk with the Lord in doing His perfect will? Far too often, “. . . the spirit indeed is willing; but the flesh is weak” (Matthew 26:38 IV; 26:41 KJV).
Jesus cautions those who think they are ready and able to walk in the will and way of God. When Salome, the mother of James and John, asked Jesus to sit her sons at his right and left hand in the kingdom, he said, “ye know not what you ask, Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of . . .? They said unto Him, “We are able” (Matthew 20:20-21).
I recall singing, “Are ye able, saith the Master, to be crucified with me . . . Lord we are able, our spirits are thine, remold them, make us, like thee, divine. Thy guiding radiance above us shall be, A beacon to God, to faith and loyalty.”
We need to count the cost of walking with God. “And it came to pass, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. And Jesus said unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man hath not where to lay his head” (Luke 9:57-58). “And he said unto another, “Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father [This seems to be a legitimate excuse]. Jesus said unto him, Let the dead [spiritually] bury the dead; but go thou and preach the Kingdom of God. . . . And Jesus said unto him, No man having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the Kingdom of God” (Luke 9:59-60, 62).
I believe the parable of the great supper will soon be fulfilled. When the servants said to those who were bidden, “Come, for all things are now ready, . . . they all . . . began to make excuse[s] . . . none of those men who were bidden, shall taste of my supper” (Luke 14:17, 24).
We are walking with God when we are anxiously engaged in doing His will. How many excuses do we have? Many are too busy today to spend the necessary time to know His mind and will, and to experience the pleasure of His presence. “For in His presence is fullness of joy” (Psalm 16:11). All too often we are too busy to study his Word and pray; too busy to walk with Him in that closer, dearer company. “O Master, let me walk with thee” (Hymns of the Restoration #280).
