Francis Harper Message for 8/31/2018
Dear Ones,
At our prayer meetings we give thanks to God for our many blessings. In our testimonies we express our appreciation for the restoration of the “faith which was once delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:3), and for The Book of Mormon; a second witness of Jesus Christ.
We should be willing and anxious to share these precious blessings with our friends, neighbors and all who have ears to hear. Why are we so reluctant to do this? Are we afraid we might offend someone? We may be offending God by our negligence to bear witness of the truth. We need to boldly declare the truth we have been blessed to receive.
Perhaps we do not speak the truth as we should because we fear the truth we hold dear, may be rejected, or ridiculed? These fears should not deter us. Paul counseled Timothy: “. . . God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord” (2 Timothy 1:7-8).
“Whosoever, therefore, shall confess me (Jesus, and his truth) before men, him will I confess also before my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 10:28 IV; 10:32 KJV).
A word of caution was spoken by the Lord to his disciples: “It is not meet to give that which is holy unto the dogs; neither cast ye your pearls unto swine, lest they trample them under their feet” (Matthew 7:10).
Seeking the presence of the Holy Spirit and the gift of wisdom in our lives should be our first and highest priority. The spiritual gifts of the discerning of sprits, and knowledge, will guide us to those who have ears to hear and will receive and appreciate the truth we have to share. We need to pray for divine appointments.
In the early morning hours of April 29, 2013, during a delay of several hours between flights at Doha, United Arab Emirates, [on the Persian Gulf] I was studying the Bible. Suddenly a man stopped in front of me. He said he worked for the airlines and wanted to say hello. He said, “you are the only person I have ever seen studying the Bible in this airport.” Without a moment of hesitation I reached into my briefcase for The Book of Mormon. Holding it up for him to see, I said, I believe this is sacred scripture too. He said, “yes, it is a second witness for Jesus Christ.” I heartily agreed. Then I asked, who are you? His name was Benezer Napatuton of the Philippines and a Seventh Day Adventist.
Years before this experience at Doha, I became acquainted with Ed Rust, an employee of Quaker Oats, a Roman Catholic. He occasionally stopped by our Farm Supply Store. We often discussed scriptures from the Bible. Some months later Ed called me. In his travels he had stayed overnight in a motel in South Dakota. He explained that he had a habit of reading from a “Gideon Bible” before sleeping. He said, “last night when I opened a dresser drawer I found a copy of The Book of Mormon.” He excitedly said, “Francis, that book is the word of God!” Then I said, “Ed, have I ever told you I have believed The Book of Mormon from the days of my youth?” He said, “No, you never told me.” Ed, a Roman Catholic, is a second witness that you do not have to be a Restorationist to accept The Book of Mormon as the word of God.
Paul said, “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ. . .” (Romans 1:16). Neither, should we be ashamed of the truth. If we are, surely Jesus will be ashamed of us! We need to stand boldly as Paul, “Witnessing both to small and great. . . the words of truth and soberness” (Acts 26:22, 25).
My Love to All,
Francis Harper

Be Bold
Boldness has been a characteristic of the saints from the beginning. The boldness of the saints is based upon their faith in God and in the righteousness of his cause to “bring to pass the immortality, and eternal life of man” (Doctrine and Covenants 22:23b).
Evel Knievel’s boldness was quite likely based upon a confidence and pride in his own abilities and his insatiable appetite for applause.
The youthful David boldly faced the giant, Goliath, saying to him: Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield; but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts . . . the battle is the Lord’s (1 Samuel 17:45-47).
The three Hebrew men, who had been appointed by the king to positions of authority over Babylon, refused to bow down to his golden idol. King Nebuchadnezzar was furious. Yet the Hebrews boldly faced him, saying, “We are not careful to answer thee in this matter. Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace . . . We will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image (Daniel 3:16-18).
Neither was Daniel threatened by the decree signed by King Darius that anyone who would petition any God or man other than himself “shall be cast into the den of lions . . . Now when Daniel knew the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks, before his God, as he did aforetime” (Daniel 6:7-10).
The apostles Peter and John were commanded by the Jewish authorities in Jerusalem not to “speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said unto them, whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye” (Acts 4:18-19).
When the apostles reported the threats of the chief priests and elders of the Jews, the believers “lifted up their voice to God with one accord . . . Lord, behold their threatening; and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word . . . and when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness” (Acts 4:24-29). We need more prayer meetings like this today.
When they were filled with the Holy Ghost they spake the word of God with boldness. Those who are filled with the Spirit of God speak with the power, wisdom and authority of God. Alma and the sons of Mosiah had “searched the scriptures diligently . . . they had given themselves to much prayer and fasting, therefore they had the spirit of prophecy, and the spirit of revelation, and when they taught, they taught with power and authority, even as with the power and authority of God (Alma 12:5).
Likewise Stephen, who was “full of the Holy Ghost,” did not hesitate to speak the truth to the high priest and elders of the Jews. “And they ran upon him with one accord, and cast him out of the city and stoned him . . . and he, calling upon God, said, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit” (Acts 6:57-59).
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 5:16).

Joseph Smith Fought Polygamy Volume 3
From: David Price
Joseph Smith Fought Polygamy Volume 3 is off the press!
Joseph Smith Fought Polygamy--Volume 3 (Paperback), by Richard and Pamela Price
Joseph Smith Fought Polygamy Volume 3 is now available for sale at Restoration Bookstore and our online store. It is a continuation of both Richard and Pamela Price's life's work. Their son, David Price, assisted in the preparation of this volume. Well over half of a century in the making, this volume firmly establishes that (especially during 1842-1844 at Nauvoo) men and women nearest to Joseph increasingly turned against him and entered into multiple polygamy-related conspiracies against him. Some did so to falsely attach polygamy to Joseph's name and to so weaken him through defamation that they could take over the Church. Others did so in order to enrage outsiders into a state of riot to destroy the Church. Yet others did so to vex Joseph so that he would succumb to their demands to change the Church so that it would officially embrace polygamy.
These conspiracies included not just harmful words aimed against Joseph, but criminal acts too--including sabotage, racketeering, fraud, forgery, riot, false arrest, assault, death threats, and murder. Also of note in this volume is the inclusion of the newest DNA evidences that refute the Utah LDS Church's long-standing fable that Joseph fathered children by polygamous wives. It contains 415 pages.
This book sells for $15.00. To order it from our online site, click on the following address:

Prepare/Enrich at SCRB Facilitator Training 10/13
From: Jim Bailey

Prepare/Enrich at SCRB Facilitator Training 10/13
Many people are doing pre-marriage and regular marriage counseling. Prepare/Enrich is a tool used all across the country by churches and professional counselors. The counselee answers 170 questions and the counselor gets back a detailed 15 page report showing strengths and weaknesses. It helps the counselor or facilitator to generate a lot of helpful questions and comments. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQB_AMO6roU
We have locked in a date for Prepare/Enrich training at South Crysler Restoration Branch which is Saturday,10/13/18.
Start time is 9:00 and end around 4:30 with 45 minutes for lunch. We will have food to eat at the church.
This training is facilitator type and can also be used to enhance counseling. This is needed by anyone doing counseling and pre-marriage counseling.
It is a wonderful tool. The cost to the counselee couple is $35 and done on line. We get back several reports that gives great insight regarding the individuals and the couple. Prepare/Enrich has different systems that adapt to the special needs of the couple. You will learn a great deal if and when you take the course. I will also be attending even though I am licensed.
The cost per couple getting the training is $125 including material. I need to provide the trainer a head count by 9/21. People who register after that will pay an additional $25 to cover special handling. People can sign up even later but the material may not get to them until after the training.
I need to hear back from you ASAP if you plan to take the course. Let me know if more questions.
You should be able to find more information also by doing a web search for Prepare/Enrich.

Francis Harper Message for 8/24/2018
Dear Ones,
The secret of becoming like Jesus; becoming one with him, is living in his sacred nearness. “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you” (James 4:8). How do we draw nigh to God? Surely it is by being faithful in reserving time each day for prayer and for feasting upon his teachings which have been preserved for us in the Scriptures.
“When we walk with the Lord in the light of his word, what a glory he sheds on our way! While we do his good will, He abides with us still, and with all who will trust and obey” (Hymns of the Restoration # 371).
Are we God’s men and women in our home and neighborhood? Corrie ten Boom, the Dutch lady, made famous by her book and movie, The Hiding Place, called her father, Casper ten Boom, “God’s man.” She wrote: “The cornerstone of his character was his steady and consistent walk with the Lord, his knowledge of, and trust in, the Bible. He believed the Bible was relevant for every part of his daily life. He started each day in the workshop (he was a watchmaker) with a word of prayer and a scripture reading with all his family and workers. Sitting behind his workbench in the shop, father was an ambassador for Christ, a representative of heaven.
“He was always ready to listen. He was always concerned for people. Father was always interested in the people who came to us, and in his prayers he laid before his heavenly Father, all the problems which were in the lives and hearts of our guests.
“Many people sought advice from Casper ten Boom. The stability of his faith and his good common sense made him an excellent counselor. His judgment was never hasty. He took time to pray about the matter and think things over. Those who received help remembered his rare ability to encourage and stimulate the good in others.
“Father always used the Bible when he counseled. He knew that the needs of people are not sufficiently met by human philosophies. He always knew a Bible verse that precisely answered the need of those who came to him. I asked him once, ‘Papa, do you learn by heart every text that you think will be useful for counseling people?’ ‘No’ he answered, it is the Lord who gives me the words I need! He mentioned Isaiah 50:4:’The Lord God hath given me the tongue of learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary . . .”
We are called to be like Jesus: “For God, who commanded light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us” (2 Corinthians 4:7).
“Have ye received his image in your countenances?” (Alma 3:28).
“And I, God, said unto mine Only Begotten, which was with me from the beginning, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and it was so” (Genesis 2:27 IV; 2:26 KJV). Surely God was speaking of more than a physical likeness when he said, let us make man in our image and likeness.
Love to All

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
We Shall Be Like Him
“. . . we know that when he shall appear, we shall be like him . . .” (1 John 3:2). Is there a greater challenge? If we want to live in his kingdom we must be like him. We are commanded to be perfect. “Ye are therefore commanded to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect” (Matthew 5:50 IV; 5:48 KJV). “. . . I would that ye should be perfect even as I, or your Father who is in heaven is perfect (3 Nephi 5:92).
Many will say, “Becoming like Jesus is impossible for me!” The word impossible should be removed from our vocabulary. The angel Gabriel told Mary: “. . . nothing can be impossible with God” (Luke 1:37). Nephi asserted: “I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he should prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them” (1 Nephi 1:65).
How then shall we become perfect? How shall we become like him? Moroni answers these questions. “Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in no wise deny the power of God.
“And again, if ye, by the grace of God, are perfect in Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified in Christ by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ, which is in the covenant of the Father, unto the remission of your sins, that ye become holy without spot” (Moroni 10:29-30).
So we can say, only by the grace of God will we be made perfect. Paul speaking of Christ as the head of the church, who “gave himself for it; that he might sanctify it and cleanse it . . . that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish” (Ephesians 5:25-27).
But according to Moroni we must deny ourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all our mind, might and strength. God will never interfere with our freedom to choose to become like Jesus, or remain as “a natural man; carnal, sensual and devilish” (Genesis 4:13 IV). “For we know it is by grace that we are saved after all we can do” (21 Nephi 11:44).
We need to be like Jesus in every thought, word and deed. We need to partake of his divine nature, even as we partake of the bread and wine of the Lord’s Supper; emblems of his flesh and blood. Unless we do this we are “dead in our trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1). Peter reminds us of the great and precious promises whereby we might be partakers of the divine nature, and escape the corruption that is in the world” (2 Peter 1:4).
We can become like Jesus by “yielding to the enticings of the Holy Spirit” and become “as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love . . .” (Mosiah 1:120). “. . . for of such is the kingdom of heaven “(Matthew 19:14).
The Lord Jesus prayed, “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, . . . that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them” (John 17:21, 26).
Philip said to Jesus, “Lord, show us the Father.” Jesus said, “. . . he that hath seen me hath seen the Father (John 14: 8-9). If someone asked, “Show us Jesus, could we truthfully say, he that hath seen me, hath seen Jesus?!

Marriage Class August 19, 2018
Description of class
Happy is good. Holy is better.
Your marriage is more than a sacred covenant with another person.
It is a spiritual discipline designed to help you know God better, trust him more fully, and love him more deeply.
What if God’s primary intent for your marriage isn’t to make you happy ... but holy?
Sacred Marriage doesn't just offer techniques to make a marriage happier.
It does contain practical tools, but what married Christians most need is help in becoming holier husbands and wives. It offers that help with insights from Scripture, church history, time tested wisdom from Christian classics, and examples from today's marriages.
Sacred Marriage reveals how marriage trains us to love God and others well, how it exposes sin and makes us more aware of God's presence, how good marriages foster good prayer, and how married sex feeds the spiritual life.
Sacred Marriage uncovers the mystery of God’s purpose. Whether it is delightful or difficult, your marriage can become a doorway to a closer walk with God, and to a spiritual integrity that, like salt, seasons the world around you with the Savor of Christ.
ATENTION:
Married Couples
(Both spouses required to attend.)
WHEN:
August 19, 2018

Francis Harper Message for 8/17/2018
Dear Ones,
“Lord speak to me that I may speak in living echoes of thy tone . . .” (Hymns of the Restoration, #266). Bakht Singh, foremost planter of Christian congregations of the 20th Century, in India, wrote: “I began to read the book of Genesis in the month of January 1930. I found these words again, and again. ‘God said, God said.’ I found these words repeated 500 times and this very fragment was a blessing to me: ‘God speaks, God speaks.’ So I said, Oh, God, speak to me. I want to hear thy voice. I have no ambition for any other experience. The longing of my soul is that you should speak to me and show me thy way day by day. I believed like a child. Even though it may take some time to learn the lesson that God must speak, the fact remains that when he becomes real (to us) he does speak. A day came when I began to hear his voice every day.” (Brother Bakht Singh of India, T.E. Koshy, Page 86).
The foundation upon which Jesus built his church was, and is, based upon communication between God and man. Jesus asked his disciples; “whom say ye that I am?” Peter answered, “thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus said, “Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jona; for flesh and blood hath not revealed this unto thee, but my Father who is in heaven . . . and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” ( Matthew 16:16-18, IV; 16:15-18, KJV). The church will survive as long as it communicates with the Father in heaven. When this communication ceases, the church will soon die.
I received a letter this week, from which I will quote: “I have to confess that I’m sometimes envious of the often fantastic testimonies that others have of hearing God speak to them audibly, or being called by name. I’ve even told my husband on occasion, “God doesn’t talk to me!” Well, I can now say that’s not at all true . . . He speaks, but I need to listen better and pay more attention! In the past month, God has spoken to me at least three times: 1) through an elder, 2) my patriarchal blessing, and 3) by sending me a love letter. During my morning walk, I suddenly stopped, looked down, and there at my feet was a perfectly heart-shaped stone. I felt like He was just saying to me, ‘I love you.’ And so, I picked it up, and said, ‘I love you, too, Lord!’”
The second prophet of the Restoration was Joseph Smith III. He said: “The means by which God reveals himself to men may be said to be infinite” (Joseph Smith III and the Restoration, Page 597). He is very creative in choosing a way to communicate with us. He has often utilized the number 333, as a signal that he has a message for me. After he gets my attention, he delivers a message; a passage of scripture; a word of counsel; a commendation; or a simple, “I love you.”
Upon one occasion I was asked to have a funeral for a young man, 21 years old, who was killed in an auto crash, through no fault of his own. His family, especially his mother and sister, were so filled with grief during the funeral service that I felt they were not being comforted by anything I said. After the funeral I asked if they would come and visit me when they felt better. They came as they had promised. We had a good visit as I made a second effort to comfort them. After their departure I leaned back in my chair and noticed the time was 3:33. And immediately these words of scripture were quoted to me by the Holy Spirit: “Whosoever, therefore, shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 10:28 IV; 10:32 KJV). I was not acquainted with this scripture until the Holy Spirit brought it to my attention!
Moses, the prophet like Jesus (Deuteronomy 18:18), was not the only prophet in Israel. “And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp. And Joshua, the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My Lord, Moses, forbid them. And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? Would God that all the Lords people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his Spirit upon them” (Numbers 11:27-29). All the Lord’s people should be hearing and heeding him.
My Love to All,
Francis Harper

Lord, Speak to Me
The Lord wants to speak to us. Are we listening? “. . . he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out . . . he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him; for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him; for they know not the voice of strangers: (John 10:3-5). Are we his sheep?
We need to hear him. We need to hear the Lord every day. When Jesus was baptized, John (the Baptist) saw the heavens open and the Spirit descending like a dove, and he heard a voice from heaven, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear ye him” (Matthew 3:45-46, IV).
Later, Jesus invited three of his disciples, Peter, James and John, to accompany him to “. . . a high mountain, apart, and was transfigured before them; and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias (John the Baptist) . . . a bright cloud overshadowed them; and, behold, a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him” (Matthew 17:1-2, 4 IV; 17: 1-2, 5 KJV).
After his ascension, Jesus appeared to his “other sheep” (John 10:16), who were descendents of Joseph who had emigrated to the narrow neck of land in the Western Hemisphere. They too, heard a voice from heaven “which did cause their hearts to burn but they understood it not.” This happened twice. Then “again the third time they did hear the voice, and did open their ears to hear it; . . . and it said unto them, Behold, my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, in whom I have glorified my name, hear ye him” (3 Nephi 5:5-8).
During the month of May, 1820, a 14 year old youth; Joseph Smith, Jr., went to the woods to pray. He needed to know which church he should join. During his prayer two personages appeared “(whose brightness and glory defy all description) standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me calling me by name, and said, (pointing to the other), This is my beloved Son, hear Him.” (Church History, Vol. 1, page 9).
These four nearly identical messages from the courts of glory should be enough to convince us that God speaks and that we need to hear and heed the voice of his Son, Jesus.
We seem to prefer hearing and heeding the voice of strangers, or perhaps listening and yielding to our own inner voice? The scripture says his sheep will not follow the voice of a stranger, “but will flee from him” (John 10:5). We need to be blessed with the gift of “discerning of spirits” (1 Corinthians 12:10) which will enable us to discern the voice of a stranger and run from him.
Adam and Eve communicated with God, until they heard and yielded to the voice of Satan. . . “and they loved Satan more than God. And men began from that time forth to be carnal, sensual and devilish” (Genesis 4:13, IV).
Paul warned: “. . . the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves, teachers, . . . And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables” (2 Timothy 4:3-4). Isaiah spoke of the rebellious who say to the seers, “See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speck unto us smooth things . . . (Isaiah 30: 9-10).
We sing: “Jesus, mighty King in Zion, Thou alone our Guide shalt be . . . We will follow none but thee. We will follow none but Jesus, Jesus is the Life, the Way; This the path in which he leads us, This the gate to endless day. Amen” (Hymns of the Saints, #353).
