LIVING IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD SEPTEMBER 21, 2023

LIVING IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD SEPTEMBER 21, 2023

Dear Saints, Greetings from the Word of God

Second Corinthians 1:2-7

1:2 “Grace be to you and peace, from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort, 4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. 6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer; or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. 7 And our hope of you is steadfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.”

Much can be said about suffering. Suffering can come in many ways and from many sources, sometimes totally unexpected. Sometimes suffering can come from those closest to us, perhaps like we may cause God to suffer by our failure to obey His commandments. Through “little” violations of God’s laws, we may suffer spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, in our school, work, home and church. Many times we ignore those little things and go right on with our lives, thinking “All is well in Zion.”

How were things going in the Kingdom of God when Adam and Eve were cast out of the Garden, when Cain killed his brother, when Joseph was sold in to slavery, when Daniel was thrown in the lion’s den, when Esther had to go before the King without an invitation, when Nephi was tied up by his brothers, when Joseph Smith Jr was killed in Carthage jail, when Emma Smith had to carry on after Joseph’s death, when the church has fractured over sixty times since 1830, when bad things happen to good people? The list is endless.

So, how is the Kingdom of God doing with all the little hindrances and barriers and other things we allow to take us away from God and His Plan? The Kingdom of God is doing well because it is HIS KINGDOM and all our little hindrances will not detour His Plan for His Kingdom to be on earth as it is in Heaven.

We have been commissioned by Jesus Christ in Matthew 6:38 “...but seek ye FIRST to build up the Kingdom of God, and to establish HIS righteousness…” When and as we are able to do that, the little things will be taken care of by His power and might. Those hindrances and barriers will be removed and those in obedience to God and are One with Him will be in His Kingdom on earth with those who come from Heaven.

Psalms 125:1 They that trust in the Lord in Mount Zion cannot be removed but abide forever. 2 As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about his people from henceforth, even forever.

Take some time to read Church History, Volume 2, chapters 1,2, with your family

God bless and keep you

Paul Gage

Fall Farm Fest Cancelled

Fall Farm Fest Cancelled

Last Tuesday was a traumatic day for our family. In all the years we have been on the farm, I have never had a day hit me this hard.

With Bob's tractor down for repairs, we borrowed one from a friend that was set up with pallet jacks instead of a bale spike. When Bob picked up one of the bales, it rolled back, pinning him to the tractor seat. The bale was resting on his chest making it difficult for him to breath. I called 911, and the fire chief and ambulance came, followed by back-up, including 15 men and three sheriffs. They pushed the bale off of him, gave him oxygen and moved him to a gurney. He was life-flighted to Research Hospital.

We are beyond grateful that Bob is going to be okay. Long story short - no broken bones, but very deep tissue bruising. He has had several CT scans and an MRI this morning. We are hoping for a speedy recovering, but these things take time and lots of rest.

All of that being said, we have decided to cancel the Fall Farm Fest this year. Between the tractor being down and Bob's accident, it is not feasible to hold it this year. We appreciate your understanding as this was not an easy decision. Please stay tuned for next year.

Thank you and God Bless,
Cathy White & OHF Board of Directors

James Lewis "Jim" Rogers - Obituary

James Lewis "Jim" Rogers

July 7, 1929 — September 19, 2023

Lee's Summit, Missouri

James Lewis Rogers (Jim), a resident of Independence, MO, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 19th, at Centerpoint Medical Center.  He was born July 7, 1932, to John Sharp and Eula C Rogers in Sylvarena, MS, where he was raised with two brothers and enjoyed country life in a small town. Jim attended the University of Mississippi and came back to Sylvarena to marry his childhood sweetheart, LeDonne Yelverton, riding his horse, Billy, to her home for courtship and marriage proposal. Jim worked as a boiler maker for a few years but began his career as a petroleum landman in 1957 until he retired at the age of 57.

Jim was converted to the RLDS church at a church reunion and baptized later that same year.  He served in many capacities in the church including multiple pastorships and Louisiana-Mississippi District President but heeded the call to gather into the center place in 1987, where he built a home and family farm in Eastern Jackson County. While living in Independence, Jim was pastor during the building of the Buckner Restoration Branch, Center Place Restoration School developer and board member, High Priest, Apostle, & Patriarch. Jim had a special fondness of being partnered together with Patriarch Bill Davies on multiple ministry opportunities and sharing the gospel with saints around the Midwest region.

In addition to his many church responsibilities, Jim was also instrumental in establishing Water District #16 in Eastern Jackson County.

Jim and LeDonne were the proud parents of 3 children: Michael Brian, Richard Lewis, & Mary Catherine; grandchildren: Rick, Micah, Rachel, Joseph, Philip, & Derek; and numerous great grandchildren. By whatever fond name he was called- Dad, Pop, Poppa Jim, Popster, Poppy- he loved his family deeply and was always ready to lend a helping hand whenever needed. Jim greatly loved and was beloved by his 2 daughters-in-law, Susan (deceased) and Michele.

Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, camping & gardening. He treasured many memorable gatherings both in Mississippi and here in Independence on the family farm, sharing food, fellowship and laughter, a tradition established by previous generations.

Jim was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, LeDonne (Independence, MO), his parents-Sharp and Eula Rogers (Sylvarena, MS), and brothers- Billy Charles Rogers (Andrews, TX), and John Hillman Rogers (Brandon, MS).

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 30, 2023 at the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2820 M 291 Highway, Independence, MO 64057 with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens.  The family will greet friends from 12:00 p.m., until service time Saturday at the church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Center Place Restoration School, 819 W Waldo Ave., Independence, MO 64050.
