When a quiet, older gentleman moves to the small town of Kirby, Illinois, in the spring of 1946, he creates quite a stir in the neighborhood. With the war still fresh in their minds, his distant nature and private personality arouse suspicion. It proves too much for the ladies of the town, who can’t contain their curiosity and decide to do some investigative work. But what they find out isn’t what they expected.

Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door, and are $7 each. Proceeds go toward the Tuition Assistance fund. Please make plans to join us for this very special evening of ministry presented by our CPRS students.

Prayer Request from Grace Little Eagle

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Grace Little Eagle

Prayer Request

Dear Prayer Warriors,

Please pray for our Sister Denise Savage's daughter Laura and Denise's friend Evelyn.

"I have 2 people I would like to put on your prayer list.
- First, I would like prayers for my daughter Laura. She as several health issues going on, from her fibromyalgia, scoliosis of the spine, the Sarcoidisis and the weight reduction surgery she had done a year and a half ago. I'll try to keep this short in the telling, so I'll start with the her constant pain from the fibromyalgia, then the constant pain in her spine from the scoliosis. And the disease Sarcoidsis is effecting her liver and lungs. And now even though the weight loss surgery was a success. She has always had a problem since the surgery, with being able to eat and not throw up her food. She as lost a lot of weight which has helped her back but the problem is she needs to stop losing weight, she is becoming to thin now. The doctors are working with her but because she is not getting enough nutrition, it's affecting her health. Because she is always not feeling good, and hasn't for some time, she is experiencing depression. She is really hoping by some miracle, she can get an appointment with the Mayo Clinic. But the cost is high. This has really taken a toll on her 2 daughters and Husband. They feel helpless. Her 8 year old daughter, has started having nightmares because she is so worried about Mommy. So please, she really needs prayers and many blessings."

"- Second, I have a friend, Evelyn, who has very recently been diagnosed with liver cancer. I don't know her prognosis but she had an appointment this last week at St Luke's hospital with doctors. "

Thank You, Dear Prayer Warriors.

Love and Blessings,

Bombing at the Easter celebration in Lahore Pakistan

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Bob Moore

Bombing at the Easter celebration in Lahore Pakistan

It was caused by a suicide bomber who blew himself up at the entrance to the area where the festivities were being held. Since most attendees were Christians, the act was aimed at believers in Jesus.
In January 2015, we began the church in Pakistan. At the last count, we have 120 members in two
branches and one study group. We have about another 100 people ready for baptism in at least 4 more cities and the 3 where members already. One of those branches is in Lahore and some converts ready for baptism. I wrote our missionary elder there to find out if any of our members were affected by this tragedy.
I just received an email from Brother Ibraham. Sadly, he reported that some of our members were killed and injured. He includes people that were ready to be baptized on his next visit, which begins April 1. I do not know which were baptized and which were not. He wrote, "Three of our church member died and 6 are injured. Some of 6 may not be able to make it. A girl named Asiya age16 and her cousin Noreen age17 and Asiya's uncle died at the spot. A boy, Rizwan 18, his mother Farzana 40, Mr Gill 37, Mr Sahotra 30, Mrs Ruth and a boy Ajiz 7 all are injured.”
Ibraham said that he spent the night crying and praying for this people, some of whom he was planing on baptizing next week. I would like to ask for prayers and contributions to assist these people and their families. Please pray for comfort for the families of those who died and the recovery of those who are injured. If anyone wants to make a contribution, please have them contact me.

Thank you.

April Australian Restoration News

Greetings. HE IS RISEN. How blessed is mankind.
Attached is the April Australian Restoration News. Hoping you are all enjoying a wonderful Easter celebration.

In gospel bonds,
Noel Rowlatt

Around and about the Centre Place by High Priest Paul Gage, Independence, Missouri.

Greetings to all the lovely Saints in Australia,

Doctrine and Covenants 17:1 tells of the organization of the church of Christ on April 6, 1830. This year, on April 6,

the Church will observe its 186th anniversary. Would that we could all celebrate it in Zion! Maybe next year or earlier.

The Conference of Restoration Elders (CRE) and the Pastors of Zion (POZ) continue to work together as they have

planned several events to bring the Saints together as we remember our Church heritage. An area wide Sacrament of

the Lord's Supper and prayer service will be held on Sunday, April 3 at Waldo Avenue Restoration Branch in

Independence, MO. On Tues. April 5, there will be a Church heritage event, also at Waldo Avenue RB, to share with

the Saints about a historic property that was once the home of Joseph Smith III and later, Israel A. Smith. The home

was recently purchased by a group of Saints so it would be in possession of church members. The home is located on

West Short Street in Independence and is just a few blocks west of the Auditorium.

The Waldo Avenue RB will host a Church history and prayer service on Wed. April 6 and then on Thur. April 7, an

"Open House" will be held at the Smith home for those who would like to take a tour. There will be an area wide

priesthood gathering on Sat. April 9 at the Grain Valley RB from 9-noon.

The CRE Women's Council will host their annual spring retreat on Sat. April 9 at Missionary RB. Colbern Road RB

is sponsoring a weekend preaching series April 8-10 with guest minister Elder Frank Shepard from Maine. Central

Missouri youth retreats will conclude with the JR retreat April 9-10 at the Odessa Hills Campgrounds in Odessa, MO.

There will also be women's retreats in April in the Ohio/West Virginia Region as well as the Northwest Region.

Another mid-April event will be a mission by the Domestic Outreach Committee of the CRE to Stoney Creek, Ontario

At this time of year we are keenly reminded of the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as He gave His life

on the cross so that each of us might have the opportunity to be reconciled to God. The principle of the gospel,

Resurrection of the Dead, is truly the cornerstone of Restoration and Christian belief. Without a living Savior, there

would be no hope for anyone. As one song states, "Because He Lives, I can face tomorrow. And life is worth the

living, just because HE LIVES!" Praise God! Glory Hallelujah!!

Riches from the Scriptures Volome 2 by Elder Neil Kerswell

Chapter 2 Faith in God

Faith is the beginning of action in Mankind.

[Hebrews 11:3] Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which

are seen were not made of things which do appear.

[Hebrews 11:4] By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that

he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

[Hebrews 11:5] By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had

translated him; for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

[Hebrews 11:6] But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and

that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

[Hebrews 11:7] By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the

saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

[Hebrews 11:8] By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an

inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

[Hebrews 11:9] By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with

Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise

[Hebrews 11:10] For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

[Hebrews 11:11] Through faith also Sarah herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child

when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

We see that God is able to create something from nothing and as we stare into the depths of space and wonder at the

things which He has made, it causes us to be in amazement at just how great His works are, knowing we cannot see

even the smallest part of what He has done and is doing in creation.

God requires of us to first believe that He is and that He will truly open the door to us if we knock.

[Hebrews 11:1] Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Faith as all the Principles, is a gift of God unto all who will love and seek Him. It brings purpose, desire and response

into the lives of those who will allow God place in their Heart.

When God has place in our Hearts the thoughts and imaginations of our hearts are set upon Him continually. This is

the beginning of Godliness.

Listen to part of David’s prayer for his people

[1 Chronicles 29:18] O Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the imagination of

the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee;

[1 Chronicles 29:19] And give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and

thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for the which I have made provision.

David at this time knew how important it was for his son and his people to have a pure heart before God, because

God does not look to the outward appearance but rather to the thoughts and intents of the heart, because this is where

the most beautiful and horrible things in man begin.

God wants to create in us something that is beautiful and for this to happen we must have faith to believe and desire

I would like to now give an example of when Satan interferes with people’s faith and instead of beauty, darkness

becomes the fruit of the heart. Let’s see what God saw in the people at the time of Noah.

[Genesis 8:7] But the Lord was with Noah, and the power of the Lord was upon him; and the Lord ordained Noah

after his own order, and commanded him that he should go forth and declare his gospel unto the children of men, even

as it was given unto Enoch.

[Genesis 8:8] And it came to pass that Noah called upon the children of men, that they should repent, but they

hearkened not unto his words.

[Genesis 8:9] And also, after that they had heard him, they came up before him, saying, Behold, we are the sons of

God, have we not taken unto ourselves the daughters of men? And are we not eating and drinking, and marrying and

given in marriage? And our wives bear unto us children, and the same are mighty men, which are like unto them of

old, men of great renown. And they hearkened not unto the words of Noah.

[Genesis 8:10] And God saw that the wickedness of man had become great in the earth; and every man was lifted up in

the imagination of the thoughts of his heart; being only evil continually.

God saw that the hearts and minds of the people were set upon evil and that the fruits of their lives during the time of

their probation would be an abomination. Some may think that God was cruel in what He did next, by sending forth the

Flood to destroy them. However we find after Christ’s death that this was part of the plan of mercy. Because their lives

were cut short, the penalty of their actions was much less, giving them an opportunity to receive the Gospel from Christ

Himself while they were in the Prison House. Therefore the Atonement of Jesus Christ brought saving Grace even unto

those in Prison who were willing to repent and allow Christ to take their burdens. Therefore we have the saying that

Christ took captivity captive, no longer did Satan hold the power, but now Christ having Redeemed all people gave

unto them opportunity if they wish to take steps to be made clean through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Not all will receive it, in fact many will choose to have Satan as their father and will love and serve him who is the

May we be always found amongst the righteous that live by faith and not by sight. Let us seek after God with all our

heart might mind and strength and love our neighbours as ourselves.

What a blessing it would be to exercise our faith as Nephi and Jacob did.

[Jacob 3:7] Wherefore, we search the prophets; and we have many revelations, and the spirit of prophecy, and having

all these witnesses, we obtain a hope, and our faith becometh unshaken, insomuch that we truly can command in the

name of Jesus, and the very trees obey us, or the mountains, or the waves of the sea;

[Jacob 3:8] Nevertheless, the Lord God sheweth us our weakness, that we may know that it is by his grace, and his

great condescensions unto the children of men, that we have power to do these things.

[Jacob 3:9] Behold, great and marvelous are the works of the Lord.

[Jacob 3:10] How unsearchable are the depths of the mysteries of him; and it is impossible that man should find out

[Jacob 3:11] And no man knoweth of his ways, save it be revealed unto him; wherefore, brethren, despise not the

revelations of God.

[Jacob 3:12] For behold, by the power of his word, man came upon the face of the earth; which earth was created by

[Jacob 3:13] Wherefore, if God, being able to speak, and the world was; and to speak, and man was created, O then,

why not able to command the earth, or the workmanship of his hands upon the face of it, according to his will and

[Jacob 3:14] Wherefore, brethren, seek not to counsel the Lord, but to take counsel from his hand.

[Jacob 3:15] For behold, ye yourselves know, that he counseleth in wisdom, and in justice, and in great mercy, over all

[Jacob 3:16] Wherefore, beloved brethren, be reconciled unto him, through the atonement of Christ, his only begotten

For all of us, faith has to begin somewhere and the counsel of Alma is a great place to start. Let us plant the seed of

faith in our hearts, by listening to his words.

[Alma 16:149] Now as I said concerning faith-that it was not a perfect knowledge, even so it is with my words.

[Alma 16:150] Ye cannot know of their surety at first, unto perfection, any more than faith is a perfect knowledge.

[Alma 16:151] But behold, if ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and

exercise a particle of faith; yea, even if ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye

believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words.

[Alma 16:152] Now we will compare the word unto a seed.

[Alma 16:153] Now if ye give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good

seed, if ye do not cast it out by your unbelief, that ye will resist the Spirit of the Lord, behold, it will begin to swell

[Alma 16:154] And when you feel those swelling motions, ye will begin to say within yourselves, It must needs be that

this is a good seed, or that the word is good, for it beginneth to enlarge my soul; yea, it beginneth to enlighten my

understanding; yea, and it beginneth to be delicious to me.

[Alma 16:155] Now behold, would not this increase your faith? I say unto you, Yea; nevertheless it hath not grown up

[Alma 16:156] But behold, as the seed swelleth, and sprouteth, and beginneth to grow, then ye must needs say, that the

seed is good; for behold it swelleth, and sprouteth, and beginneth to grow.

[Alma 16:157] And now behold, will not this strengthen your faith? Yea, it will strengthen your faith, for ye will say, I

know that this is a good seed, for behold, it sprouteth and beginneth to grow.

[Alma 16:158] And now behold, are ye sure that this is a good seed? I say unto you, Yea; for every seed bringeth forth

unto its own likeness; therefore, if a seed groweth, it is good, but if it groweth not, behold, it is not good; therefore it is

[Alma 16:159] And now, behold, because ye have tried the experiment, and planted the seed, and it swelleth, and

sprouteth, and beginneth to grow, ye must needs know that the seed is good.

[Alma 16:160] And now behold, is your knowledge perfect? Yea, your knowledge is perfect in that thing, and your faith

[Alma 16:161] And this because you know; for ye know that the word hath swelled your souls, and ye also know that it

hath sprouted up, that your understanding doth begin to be enlightened, and your mind doth begin to expand.

[Alma 16:162] O then, is not this real? I say unto you, Yea; because it is light; and whatsoever is light, is good,

because it is discernible; therefore ye must know that it is good.

[Alma 16:163] And now behold, after ye have tasted this light, is your knowledge perfect? Behold, I say unto you, Nay;

neither must ye lay aside your faith, for ye have only exercised your faith to plant the seed, that ye might try the

experiment, to know if the seed was good.

[Alma 16:164] And behold, as the tree beginneth to grow, ye will say, let us nourish it with great care, that it may get

root, that it may grow up and bring forth fruit unto us.

[Alma 16:165] And now behold, if ye nourish it with much care, it will get root, and grow up, and bring forth fruit.

[Alma 16:166] But if ye neglect the tree, and take no thought for its nourishment, behold, it will not get any root; and

when the heat of the sun cometh and scorcheth it, because it hath no root, it withers away, and ye pluck it up and cast it

out. [Alma 16:167] Now this is not because the seed was not good, neither is it because the fruit thereof would not

[Alma 16:168] But it is because your ground is barren, and ye will not nourish the tree; therefore ye cannot have the

[Alma 16:169] And thus it is if ye will not nourish the word, looking forward with an eye of faith to the fruit thereof, ye

can never pluck of the fruit of the tree of life.

[Alma 16:170] But if ye will nourish the word, yea, nourish the tree as it beginneth to grow, by your faith with great

diligence, and with patience, looking forward to the fruit thereof, it shall take root; and behold, it shall be a tree

springing up unto everlasting life;

We see from this wonderful example that Faith requires works to ensure it is fruitful. If we choose to be slothful and

neglect the gift of Faith, even though it is good, it will profit us nothing. Have you tried the challenge of Alma?

I would like to now share a portion of the Lectures of Faith:

[Lecture 1:9] From this we learn that faith is the assurance which men have of the existence of things which they have

not seen, and the principle of action in all intelligent beings.

[Lecture 1:10] If men were duly to consider themselves, and turn their thoughts and reflections to the operations of

their own minds, they would readily discover that it is faith, and faith only, which is the moving cause of all action in

them; that without it, both mind and body would be in a state of inactivity, and all their exertions would cease, both

[Lecture 1:11a] Were this class to go back and reflect upon the history of their lives, from the period of their first

recollection, and ask themselves what principle excited them to action, or what gave them energy and activity in all

their lawful avocations, callings, and pursuits, what would be the answer? Would it not be that it was the assurance

which we had of the existence of things which we had not seen as yet?

[Lecture 1:11b] Was it not the hope which you had, in consequence of your belief in the existence of unseen things,

which stimulated you to action and exertion, in order to obtain them?

[Lecture 1:11c] Are you not dependent on your faith, or belief, for the acquisition of all knowledge, wisdom, and

intelligence? Would you exert yourselves to obtain wisdom and intelligence, unless you did believe that you could

[Lecture 1:11d] Would you have ever sown if you had not believed that you would reap? Would you have ever planted

if you had not believed that you would gather? Would you have ever asked unless you had believed that you would

receive? Would you have ever sought unless you had believed that you would have found? Or would you have ever

knocked unless you had believed that it would have been opened unto you?

[Lecture 1:11e] In a word, is there anything that you would have done, either physical or mental, if you had not

previously believed? Are not all your exertions of every kind dependent on your faith?

I like this example as it opens our minds to just how far reaching the principle of faith is in our lives and indeed in the

lives of all men and women. Whether we believe in God or not the principle of faith is an essential part of everyone’s

life. Put simply without faith we would all be in a state of inactivity.

God wants for us to be actively seeking and searching for him and promises to reward our faith.

[Matthew 7:12] Say unto them, Ask of God; ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall

[Matthew 7:13] For every one that asketh, receiveth; and he that seeketh, findeth; and unto him that knocketh, it shall

Some people uphold the belief that to Believe (have Faith) in Christ is all you must do to be saved and quote the

scripture that says it is by grace we are saved and not our works.

[Ephesians 2:8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; but it is the gift of God;

[Ephesians 2:9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.

This statement is true, but it is not the only truth about Grace and Faith that is revealed in the scriptures. Surely except

God came into the world through the life of Christ as an act of Grace (unearned, undeserved gift) we were all lost and

all the works we could do was not enough to save us. Therefore the Light of Christ shone in darkness. He paid the

price of our redemption, and lays before us the opportunity to go on unto salvation.

Therefore it is absolutely true that we are saved by grace and not of works lest anyone should boast. Without this

loving act of kindness there was no hope. Therefore as we read earlier with Faith being a principle of the gospel we are

told to go on unto perfection. Therefore to believe or have faith requires us to have action in our lives. Action requires

works and plenty of them. Christ asked us to keep his commandments to show that we love Him. From this we see that

we are not saved by works, but by Christ. We need to be an active people abounding in good works to have a heart

made pure. We actually show our faith by our works.

[James 2:14] What profit is it, my brethren, for a man to say he hath faith, and hath not works? Can faith save him?

[James 2:15] Yea, a man may say, I will show thee I have faith without works; but I say, show me thy faith without

works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.

[James 2:16] For if a brother or sister be naked and destitute, and one of you say, Depart in peace, be warmed and

filled; notwithstanding he give not those things which are needful to the body; what profit is your faith unto such?

[James 2:17] Even so faith, if it have not works is dead, being alone.

[James 2:18] Therefore wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead and cannot save you?

Prayer Request - Priscilla Sweet

Prayer Request

Priscilla Sweet, age 48, needs prayer. She had bypass surgery in Dec. of 2015 and at that time the doctors told her that her body was producing a large quantity of cholesterol. She has been taking steps to lower the cholesterol but nothing is working. Just the other day she was back in the hospital and they were trying to do an angioplasty and determine what was going on in her heart. They could not complete the angio because it threw her into cardiac arrest. They revived her but the prognosis is not good. Her heart is in bad shape and currently they are talking about a helicopter flight to KU medical center and putting her on a mechanical heart to give some time to find a donor for a heart transplant. Prayer for her, her husband Steve Sweet and their family would be appreciated.

Day in the Country event for 2016

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Don Marsh

Day in the Country event for 2016

We are in the planning phase for our 5th Day in the County Sept 17th 2016. We are hoping to add more educational areas and music, please see the attachment. We continue to look for ways to prepare our lives to be better steward over all we have through health, gardening and being more self reliant.

Some things to think about: 1. Could you live on less? 2. Could you cook out side? 3. What is your emergency light sources? 4. Do you have food saved to feed your family and help your neighbors? 5. Do you have extra scriptures or hymn books to be spiritually uplifted.

I am not a dooms day person but everything I read in scriptures tells we are to be preparing our lives scriptural, physical, and share what we have learned with others. Even the animals prepare.

So come join us! Either share what you have learned or just come and spend A Day in the Country. Additional information will be sent out closer to the date.

Julie Marsh

5th Annual

We have come to the time of year that we begin preparing for our 5th annual A Day in the Country. Our

purpose is to bring people in the community together in a fun, healthy, family environment. To share together

in preparing our lives to be good stewards over all God has given us. The world around us is changing and we

are striving to better equip ourselves in preparation.

This year we have a need for demonstrations and booths. We are specifically hoping to find people

who could bring hands on classes for Herbs, Self-Reliant Living, Worm farming, Alternative cooking such as

Cinder Block or Terra Cotta Ovens, Jelly Making, Seed Saving, Starting Plants, Bee Keeping, Maple Syrup

Tapping, Foraging for Mushrooms, Eating out of your Yard, Homemade Solar and Fruit Tree Pruning.

We have planned this years “Day” for Saturday, September 17, 2016. It will be from 9am-4pm. You

will be welcome to set up the day before or as early as 6:00 am the day of. We will have music and

demonstrations throughout the day on the main stage. Lunch will be provided from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.

Free will donations will be accepted and any money raised will be used to cover expenses for this year and

future events. Last year we had nearly 400 people in attendance and expect about the same for this year. We

would ask that you would please pray that this year we will be blessed as we have been in the last 4 years with

good weather, fellowship and that we will all take away information to make us better stewards over what

If you plan to join us this year we would ask you bring your own tables, easy up tents for shade, chairs

and literature about your booth. There is limited electricity available and you must reserve this. Booth

contents must follow the Christian family atmosphere set forth by the organizing committee.

If you would like to join us this year or need more information you can reach Julie Marsh at or you can call her at 816-616-9293 or call Shannon Andes at 816-288-5211.

Lawn Care and Landscaping Employee Needed ASAP

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Greenstone Lawn and Landscaping

My name is Nate Horn. I am the owner of Greenstone Lawn and Landscaping. Most of my work is in Kansas City, Independence, Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, Grain Valley, and Oak Grove. My company is young and has grown to the point that I need to hire my first employee. I will consider all ages and experience levels, but those with experience will have a better chance of getting the position. I am willing to offer pay from $10/hr to $15/hr depending upon experience and how well you perform in the first several weeks. The type of experience I am looking for is primarily someone who is very skilled at commercial mowing. Mowing skills include ability to operate a stander mower, a sit down zero turn, and a walk behind. General driving skills to minimize damaging the lawn, while leaving good striping should be demonstrated. I'd like to see skill and speed in trimming and edging as well. If you are good at these general mowing skills I'll most likely make sure to start you off at $12 an hr. If you also show the ability to drive a truck with a trailer, back the trailer, drop and connect it without help, that will grab my attention as well. Any experience in landscaping and construction is relevant.
I'm going to conduct a background check on anyone before I hire them on full time. References and a written resume are also a big plus.

Call, text, or email me and we can set up a short interview.
Again, my number is 816-808-8555

Urgent Prayers

From: Darrell Webster

Date: Saturday, March 12, 2016, 7:53 PM

Dear Saints,

Some maybe most have heard that we had a fire at the home we own at 272 Marion Ave. Painesville, Ohio.
Everyone got out safely but the house is a loss.

This has created serious tension for Fran and myself. She had an accident with the SUV this afternoon which caused her to lose it.

She just moments ago had a Stroke and seizure. She is having difficulty with her left side and won’t go to the hospital. Please pray for us as we pass through these trials. Satan is working hard to destroy us and we need your prayers. With God’s help we will make it.

We will overcome. Praise the Lord in all things. It is in His hands I place us And it is by His hand the blessings will come.

2016 Restoration Branch Family Reunion and Conference of Restoration Elders Materials

The Pastors of Zion (POZ) and the Conference of Restoration Elders (CRE) are once again sponsoring a combined Reunion and Elders Conference. The Restoration Branch Family Reunion and Elders Conference will be held at the Center Place Restoration School (CPRS)/Waldo Ave Restoration Branch from June 19 to June 24, 2016.

As in previous years, the primary focus of the week will be on worship, classes and fellowship for all the Saints, classes and meeting opportunities for all priesthood, and opportunity for the Elders to meet in conference. The overall theme, and daily themes for the week are as follows:

The Gifts of the Spirit

1 Corinthians 12:4-11 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues; But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God - (I Peter 4:10)

Sunday Diversity of Gifts, but the Same Spirit

Monday Spiritual Gifts of Wisdom and Knowledge

Tuesday Spiritual Gifts of Faith and Discerning of Spirits

Wednesday Spiritual Gifts of Healing and Miracles

Thursday Spiritual Gifts of Prophecy, Tongues and Interpretation of Tongues

Friday Unto Whom Much is Given, Much is Required

We invite all restoration branch saints and priesthood to consider participating in the 2016 Restoration Branch Family Reunion and Conference of Restoration Elders. We believe that this Reunion will once again be a wonderful opportunity for the Saints to draw close to the Lord and to each other.

Joseph Dean Edson Obituary

Joseph Dean Edson Obituary

January 18, 1964 - March 9, 2016

Joseph Dean Edson of Seymour, Mo., was born January 18, 1964, and entered into the paradise of God on March 9, 2016, after a lengthy battle with cancer, at the age of fifty-two years. He was the eldest son of Gerald Duane Edson and Vera Marie Kimrey-Edson. He spent his early years in Brunswick, Missouri, where he attended elementary and junior high school. The family moved to Branson, Missouri, in 1979, at which time he entered Branson High School, from which he graduated in 1982.

After high school graduation Joey entered college at the University of Missouri at Rolla, and later transferred to Missouri State University in Springfield. He graduated in 1987 with a degree in Engineering Physics. While in his senior year of college he worked as an intern at Dayco Rubber Company in Springfield as a software developer. After graduation he became a full-time employee at Dayco as a test engineer. Even though the company changed hands several times, he remained with the company until the time of his death.

Joey was baptized into membership of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the age of eight years and was ordained to the office of Aaronic Priest in that church in his late teens. He remained faithful to the Gospel of Jesus all of his life.

Joey had a strong interest in things mechanical and electronic. He held an amateur radio license since 1981 with the call sign of KAƘJUN. As a radio operator he participated in several public events by assisting with communications.

Joey and Christina Gail Hamilton were married on June 21, 1997. They have one son, Stephen Joseph. He leaves behind his wife, Chris, his son, Stephen, of the home in Seymour, his parents, Gerald and Vera Edson of Branson, one sister, Kim Edson of Marshfield, Missouri, two brothers – Roger Edson and Jared Edson, both of Marshfield – one nephew, Avery Edson, of Marshfield, and many other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, MO. The funeral will be on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Seymour City Cemetery.

Book available at:

A Word to My Fellow Evangelicals

One of the purposes for writing this reference book is to tell you everything I know about Joseph Smith and the restoration movement. Admittedly, a task grandiose in scope, but not entirely unachievable. Though my target audience is fellow evangelicals, I do believe restoration believers will enjoy this book.

I’ve often wished, while in the middle of a robust, friendly discussion with one of my evangelical friends that I had had a book I could hand to my listener which encapsulates my beliefs about Joseph Smith and his movement. He could take that book home, get “snap shot” understandings of the restoration gospel and the man, put the book down and say, “O, I get it. The restoration gospel presented in non-Mormon language. And in bite-size proportions.”

I also wanted to write a “non-denominational” book about the restoration. There are plenty of books written on Joseph Smith and the restoration gospel, penned mostly by Mormons and their first cousins; i.e., RLDS, Restoration Branches, and authors from other various restoration groups. But none, to my knowledge, written in a favorable light by a Southern Baptist. To be more specific, none by a charismatic Baptist minister. I’m a Southern Baptist minister who takes Joseph Smith and his movement seriously. I don’t think we Protestants can ignore this man much longer. Josiah Quincy (1802-1882), mayor of Boston, graduate of Harvard College, and member of Massachusetts State Legislature, stated:

The man who established a religion in this age of free debate, who was and is to day accepted by hundreds of thousands as a direct emissary from the Most High, such a rare human being is not to be disposed of by pelting his memory with unsavory epithets…the wonderful influence which this founder of a religion exerted and still exerts throws him into relief before us, not as a rogue to be criminated, but as a phenomenon to be explained.

(Figures of the Past by Josiah Quincy, 376)

Sadly, Mormons and Evangelicals have not had that much free debate. We’ve taken shots at one another from across the bow and quickly retreated to our corners. For too long evangelicals have pelted our unsavory epithets at this man, hurled our incriminating insults at Joseph Smith, stayed our distance, and left it at that. I want to do something different; have a serious conversation. For thirty plus years I have studied Joseph Smith and the restoration movement. This book is a result of my thoughts and ponderings. My findings are my own. My conclusions I’m satisfied with; based upon sound research though somewhat subjective. I’m okay with that. Just as imagination is not synonymous with imaginary, neither does my subjective point of view mean that I am wrong.

Regarding my findings…I am delighted at the obvious, been surprised with the unexpected, and jilted to my boot straps at times by the similarities of Joseph Smith’s theology and my own. In my search for “Who is this man?” when tempted to run as fast as I can back to my typical evangelical knee-jerk responses, I reminded myself, “I have never thought of it like that.” I learned a valuable spiritual lesson long ago—what you really know you need not defend. As Brother Joseph once said, “Truth will cut its own way.” In other words, truth does not need our defense, particularly when we’re wading waste deep in unchartered waters. Such moments demand our undivided attention, our calm reflection. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying throw discernment and caution to the wind. I am saying at times truth shows up in the most unexpected, perhaps unwanted, places. More to the point, sometimes the Lord will put truth you’re searching for with a group whom you least want to associate. He does that to see how serious you are. As one brother put it, “The Lord at times will offend the mind to reveal your heart.”

Regarding my feelings toward the man…I discovered a man with deep complexity and child-like goodness. Unsophistication mixed with much learning. I’m as happily twisted in my conclusions about Joseph Smith as are others. One brother wrote:

This tall robust, blue-eyed man could receive a revelation, wrestle a workman, outrun a mob, and develop plans for a model city virtually in the same day (Davis Bitton, The Mormon Experience, 17).

He’s hard to pin down. One moment Brother Joseph is wrestling on the ground with boys in the neighborhood and the next he’s walking down the stairs of the Red Brick Store with the glory of the Lord on his face, and the next minute he’s translating scriptures. I love the story of when a Baptist minister came to Nauvoo to meet with the Mormon Prophet. Following their conversation, Joseph Smith challenged him to a wrestling contest. Apparently, the suggestion so shocked the preacher that he just stood there, dumbfounded, not knowing how to respond, so Joseph started to the contest and wrestled his guest to the ground after which he whirled him a few times. Following the tussle, the visitor informed the Prophet “that his piety had been awfully shocked” at such behavior from an individual who claimed to be a man of God. Joseph then explained to him the falsehood connected with those who exhibited sanctimonious, holier-than-thou, and pharisaical behavior (Article in Religious Studies Center, Joseph Smith’s Athletic Nature, Alexander L. Baugh).

It bears repeating, and I say it with tongue ‘n cheek but with more than a tinge of seriousness, he’s hard to pin down.

Regarding my faith…I’m still a Southern Baptist minister. I still embrace those cardinal Baptist truths; i.e., salvation by grace, the finished work of Calvary, the born again experience, repentance, faith, water baptism and scriptural inerrancy. Having said that, I have decided to offer the olive branch. Reach across the aisle and befriend my Mormon brothers and sisters.

Having ministered among my LDS and RLDS friends for these past thirty or so years, having preached in their churches, spoken at their conferences, and having lectured at BYU to the religious education faculty and at Graceland University…without hesitation, I call them “brothers” and “sisters.” Do I agree with all their doctrines? No. “Then, Brother Lynn,” as I’m frequently asked by my evangelical friends, “how can you go out to Utah and minister among those Mormons?* How can you compromise your faith?”

That’s what this book’s about. Exploring the answers to those relevant questions.
