I have just obtained a collection of scarce books—many of them 100 years old or older—that you should see. They are all in good condition (unless noted). Most of these are one-of-a-kind, so order directly from this announcement.

Send e-mail to or phone (816) 210-8450.

By the way, after attending four reunions so far this summer, I have learned that many of the Saints received the first memo stating that I had sold my old-book business; BUT they didn’t see the second memo telling that I got it back.

So Paul V. Ludy is the Oldbookman and the Newbookman. Need books? Call Paul!

Zion the beautiful beckons us on. ++++++++++

Around and about the Centre Place by High Priest Paul Gage, Independence, Missouri.

The Lord's blessings upon the Saints of Australia as we complete half of the year of 2016. How do you see this year?

As six months gone forever or six months to go? It all depends on a person's mind set. Is the glass half full or half

empty? Do we really believe in God or are we just "playing the game?" Do we really exercise faith in God, or is it just

a good "principle" to try to live by? Do we really believe that God's kingdom will one day be on earth as it is in heaven,

or do those words just make for a nice prayer line? How we each answer those questions, not so much in words, but by

action, will determine our place in God's plan. The parables in Matthew 25 about the Ten Virgins, the Talents, and the

dividing of the sheep from the goats are more than just "earthly" stories. They not only have a heavenly meaning, they

have an eternal impact on each one of us. Have you "checked your oil" recently? Read, again, DC 45:10 b. Read, again

Matthew 25:11, 31, and 47.

The Centre Place is all abuzz with the excitement of opportunities to gather together with a goodly number of Saints

for fellowship, times of spiritual growth and development, and worship of God Almighty. Camps, reunions, and the

Annual Sunday Evening Summer Preaching Series are in progress. I wish all the Saints in the world could have been at

Waldo Avenue Restoration Branch on Sunday, June 19, 2016 for the opening prayer service of the Restoration Branch

Family Reunion and Conference of Restoration Elders. Saints in attendance included those from Iowa, Ohio, West

Virginia, areas in Missouri, outside the Centre Place, the Centre Place, and Mexico with more to come from Indiana,

Oklahoma and Kenya. Seventy Juan Reyes from Mexico stood to share his very vibrant testimony of the Lord Jesus

Christ. He closed his testimony by singing the chorus of "The Spirit of God, Like a Fire is Burning." The Lord was

truly in our midst as the congregation joined Brother Reyes in, "We'll sing and we'll shout, with the armies of heaven;

Hosanna, Hosanna, to God and the Lamb. Let glory unto them, in the highest be given, henceforth, and forever, AMEN

and AMEN." Brother Reyes went high on the last AMEN and I know it reached Heaven and pleased the Lord.

Some camps and reunions have been completed. Nine Saints came from Oregon to assist in the Senior High youth

camp at Odessa Hills Campgrounds at Odessa, Missouri. First reports are that it was a marvelous experience for many

at the camp. Other reports will hopefully be included in the next Tidings of Zion which should be in the mail by mid-

July. It will also have all the news of the reunion/conference.

The SEAAM Board of the CRE continues to function in Australia, India, Nepal, Palau, and the three main islands of

the Philippines. As you know, Murray and Delma just recently returned from Luzon and a mission is in the works for

Mindanao as well as Australia in the fall.

Chapter 5. Baptism of the Spirit

In the last chapter we spoke about Baptism of Water

We are laid under the water and brought forth out of the water to represent:

Being born again into God’s Kingdom

Dying to Sin and Raised in the likeness of Christ’s Resurrection

Symbolises a hope in the resurrection to come

Symbolises being washed clean from our sins

Becoming a new person in Christ

Is for the Remission of our Sins

Without Baptism we cannot even see the Kingdom of God

Entering into a promise (covenant) to love and serve God all our days

IV Acts 8: 14-24 Holy Ghost received through Laying on of Hands

[Acts 8:14] Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they

sent unto them Peter and John;

[Acts 8:15] Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost.

[Acts 8:16] (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them; only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)

[Acts 8:17] Then laid they their hands on them and they received the Holy Ghost.

[Acts 8:18] And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given he offered

them money,

[Acts 8:19] Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.

In this chapter we are looking at Baptism of the Spirit or Confirmation of the Holy Ghost

[Acts 8:20] But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be

purchased with money.

[Acts 8:21] Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter; for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

[Acts 8:22] Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, If perhaps the thought of thine heart may be

forgiven thee.

[Acts 8:23] For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.

[Acts 8:24] Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have

spoken come upon me.

The Gift of the Holy Ghost is conferred by the Laying on of Hands of the ministry. As representatives of Jesus Christ,

the Apostles hands in this scripture are symbolic of Christ’s hands sharing with the candidate of His Spirit.

Authority of God is not something which can be purchased with money, those who try to do so will perish with their

money. No man can take this honour unto himself.

God chooses who He will. Those contemplating Baptism of Water or the Spirit must have faith and confidence that the

priesthood officiating in the Ordinance are called and ordained of God. In my opinion candidates for baptism should

have opportunity to choose the Priesthood man who will baptise and the men who will confirm them. This will assist in

the years to come when satan tries to make them doubt the divinity of what has taken place when they made their

covenant. Plus it gives people the ability to exercise their agency, instead of having circumstances forced upon them.

IV Acts 19: 3-6 Baptised in the Name of Christ

[Acts 19:3] And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.

[Acts 19:4] Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people, that they should

believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

[Acts 19:5] When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

[Acts 19:6] And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues,

and prophesied.

When the Holy Ghost comes and dwells in us our gifts and abilities are quickened by the Spirit and light of God. This

reference speaks of some people who were baptised into the old covenant. Christ fulfilled the old covenant and these

people were now baptised of Water into the covenant with Christ, then confirmed by the laying on of the apostles

hands. This opened the door to receiving the Holy Ghost, which is the Spirit, Mind and Will of God the Father and

Jesus Christ which comes into us to help make us one, as they are one. In Spirit and Power.

We have used this reference for water baptism, it is also a very good scripture for the Spirit.

John 3:1-8 The Ways of the Spirit of God

[John 3:1] There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews;

[John 3:2] The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from

God; for no man can do these miracles which thou doest, except God be with him.

[John 3:3] Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot

see the kingdom of God.

[John 3:4] Nicodemus said unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his

mother's womb and be born?

[John 3:5] Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water, and the Spirit, he cannot

enter into the kingdom of God.

[John 3:6] That which is born of the flesh, is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit, is spirit.

[John 3:7] Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

[John 3:8] The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh,

and whither it goeth; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.

Those who receive the Holy Ghost have been given a gift which quickens the inner person by the Holy Ghost, making

them alive in Christ

Therefore they are unpredictable, because they are led by God and not by Man if they are faithful.

It is likened unto the wind, there is evidence something is moving but the source cannot be seen with the natural eye.

Please consider the example of soil once something is planted into it

 Soil on its own will always remain soil

 Until something is planted into it

 Then it becomes part of a higher purpose or Kingdom and if cared for will bare much fruit.

Example of Seed on Good Ground

1. Soil must be good for something to grow

2. Not too shallow

3. Not to rocky or dry

4. Keep watered but Not too wet

5. Must keep out the weeds which choke out the good plant

Genesis 6:59-68 Record of Heaven, the Comforter

[Genesis 6:59] And I have given unto you another law and commandment; wherefore teach it unto your children, that

all men, everywhere, must repent, or they can in no wise inherit the kingdom of God.

[Genesis 6:60] For no unclean thing can dwell there, or dwell in his presence; for, in the language of Adam, Man of

Holiness is his name; and the name of his Only Begotten is the son of Man, even Jesus Christ, a righteous judge, who

shall come in the meridian of time.

[Genesis 6:61] Therefore I give unto you a commandment, to teach these things freely unto your children, saying, that

by reason of transgression cometh the fall, which fall bringeth death; and inasmuch as ye were born into the world by

water and blood, and the spirit, which I have made, and so become of dust a living soul;

[Genesis 6:62] Even so ye must be born again, into the kingdom of heaven, of water, and of the Spirit, and be cleansed

by blood, even the blood of mine Only Begotten; that ye may be sanctified from all sin; and enjoy the words of eternal

life in this world, and eternal life in the world to come; even immortal glory.

[Genesis 6:63] For, by the water ye keep the commandment; by the Spirit ye are justified; and by the blood ye are

[Genesis 6:64] Therefore it is given to abide in you, the record of heaven, the Comforter, the peaceable things of

immortal glory, the truth of all things, that which quickeneth all things which maketh alive all things, that which

knoweth all things, and hath all power according to wisdom, mercy, truth, justice and judgment.

[Genesis 6:65] And now, behold, I say unto you, This is the plan of salvation unto all men, through the blood of mine

Only Begotten, who shall come in the meridian of time.

[Genesis 6:66] And, behold, all things have their likeness; and all things are created and made to bear record of me;

both things which are temporal, and things which are spiritual; things which are in the heavens above, and things

which are on the earth, and things which are in the earth, and things which are under the earth, both above and

beneath, all things bear record of me.

[Genesis 6:67] And it came to pass, when the Lord had spoken with Adam our father, that Adam cried unto the Lord,

and he was caught away by the Spirit of the Lord, and was carried down into the water, and was laid under the water,

and was brought forth out of the water; and thus he was baptized.

[Genesis 6:68] And the Spirit of God descended upon him, and thus he was born of the Spirit, and became quickened

in the inner man.

We see here that God the Father is holy and no unclean thing can dwell in his presence. To make things perfectly clear

here as to what I mean. God the Father in the Fullness of His Glory – Nothing held back in Presence, Power or

This is why all aspects of the Gospel of Salvation have their purpose and meaning in the Revelation and personage of

Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten of the Father, who is both the Son of Man and the Son of God. The Father revealed in

Flesh by the Holy Ghost in a manner which did not destroy us in our sins, but rather gave us an example of hope and

Christ is the only way through which the atonement could be made and meet the requirements of the just laws upon us.

We all know the scripture that states:

[1 Corinthians 15:21] for since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

[1 Corinthians 15:22] For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

One of the prerequisites for the atonement to be paid in full was that the life offered must truly be a man of the line of

Adam. But just as important is the fact that no one born of the line of Adam was worthy or able to live a sinless life,

because they inherit the nature to sin as soon as they are born into it, therefore sin conceives in their hearts. Only true

holiness in God Himself was capable of entering flesh and pay the price.

Therefore God by His Spirit or Holy Ghost entered into Mary the earthly mother of Christ and quickened within her

womb Life. This life was both Human and God in one. Therefore able to pay the price of our redemption, cleansing us

by His spilt Blood on Calvary and filling us when we are Confirmed with His Spirit which if we allow to guide and

change our hearts, will bring about eternal life in us. Christ because of His being part of the Family of Adam and

overcoming all sin in the flesh, is able to be our advocate with the Father over the whole Family, speaking and praying

on our behalf, pleading our case. Therefore it is only possible for us to stay in the presence of God if we are truly made

holy through God’s spirit which justifies us to be there.

I will give a couple of references that show the grand purpose of the Gift of the Holy Ghost:

[John 17:20] Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

[John 17:21] That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us; that

the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

[John 17:22] And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one;

[John 17:23] I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou

hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

[John 17:24] Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my

glory, which thou hast given me; for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

[John 17:25] O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee; but I have known that thou hast sent me.

[John 17:26] And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it; that the love wherewith thou hast loved me

may be in them, and I in them.

[John 14:16] And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever;

[John 14:17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth

him; but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

[John 14:18] I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you.

[John 14:19] Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me; because I live, ye shall live also.

[John 14:20] At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

[John 14:21] He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me; and he that loveth me shall be

loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

[John 14:22] Judas saith unto him, (not Iscariot,) Lord, how is it thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the

[John 14:23] Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words; and my Father will love

him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

[John 14:24] He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings; and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's

which sent me.

[John 14:25] These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.

[John 14:26] But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you

all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

[John 14:27] Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your

heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

[John 14:28] Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would

rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father; for my Father is greater than I.

The great purpose of the Gift of the Holy Ghost (as best I can put in words) is that we who are faithful and make a

covenant with God in the waters of baptism and receive the Baptism of the Spirit, may be one with God in the very

same manner in which God the Father and Jesus Christ His only Begotten are one – (Being united in Spirit) – this is

the oneness God the Father wants of us.

This is the oneness within the Godhead.

This is why it is given in revelation that when a servant of God speaks by the Holy Ghost, it is the same as if God had

spoken Himself. Because literally He has spoken through His servant, His Spirit, Mind and Will expressed through His

people. This is Eternal life and Immortal Glory to know God the Father and Jesus Christ whom He sent through the

Power of the Holy Ghost living in us. This is what is required to dwell in the presence of God the Father in the Fullness

of His Kingdom. To be one with Him in Spirit, made holy (sanctified). This justifies us to dwell with Him.

All this was not possible if it weren’t for the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We are left in darkness never to rise

again in the flesh, if Christ had not risen first.

The Father is only greater than Christ in as much as Christ is of the family of Adam. This allowed Him to teach us and

not destroy us with Glory, but as mentioned in the scriptures presented, Christ is going to share with us His Glory that

the Father gave Him (His Spirit) to open our eyes by shining in darkness without blinding us. Put simply Christ

revealed the Father in a manner which showed forth the heavenly in an earthly manner which could be followed and be

shared to live within us. This is why He is the Way the Truth and the Life.

Can we see now why God can only dwell in Holy Temples, meaning our Bodies and why he destroys those which are

not Holy?

Can we see why it is so important to make the most of this life, this time of probation?

Why He says woe unto those who do not improve their state during this time of probation?

We must truly be made Holy through Christ by the Gift of the Holy Ghost. The Spirit of God and Christ as mentioned

[John 14:17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth

him; but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

[John 17:22] And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one;

[John 17:23] I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou

hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

It is easy to understand why we are told that unless we are Baptised of both Water and Spirit, we cannot even see the

Kingdom of God. Have you ever looked at ants on the ground when you were a child? You look down and they move

about their daily work, focused on the job at hand, unaware you are watching from above. It’s not until you place a

finger on the ground near them that they begin to take notice and sometimes attack.

God the Father watched us living in darkness, due to Satan’s handiwork and came into the world we live in, taking on

our very form, living amongst us and forever showing us the way through Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ, our example and

advocate now has a place at the Fathers Right Hand, being His beloved and cherished from the beginning. Satan was

jealous and asked to be the saviour of the world because he also was a son of God.

There is only one Saviour, God the Father created us through Him.

[Genesis 1:27] And I, God, said unto mine Only Begotten, which was with me from the beginning, Let us make man

in our image, after our likeness; and it was so.

[Genesis 1:28] And I, God, said, Let them have dominion over the fishes of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and

over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

[Genesis 1:29] And I, God, created man in mine own image, in the image of mine Only Begotten created I him; male

and female created I them.

We are created in the image of God, in the image of His only Begotten. We were created to be like unto them. One

with them in Spirit. This is why we become His Sons and Daughters when we make the covenant. There is only one

Son who is the only Begotten filled only with the Spirit of God and that is Jesus Christ, never the less we are still Sons

and Daughters and in the same manner we are begotten through the life, sacrifice and Spirit of Jesus Christ, which is

shed abroad into all those who will covenant with Him and be saved through His Merits. God desires to be “one” in a

degree where we can be equal in the Fullness of His Kingdom.

[Sec 76:7i] And thus we saw the glory of the celestial, which excels in all things; where God, even the Father, reigns

upon his throne for ever and ever, before whose throne all things bow in humble reverence and give him glory for ever

and ever.

[Sec 76:7j] They who dwell in his presence are the church of the First- born; and they see as they are seen, and know

as they are known, having received of his fullness and of his grace; and he makes them equal in power, and in might,

and in dominion.

It is my sincere hope that the Holy Ghost has wrought upon you the reader and brought joy to your heart as He has

upon mine of just how magnificent and almighty He is. He is so great but so giving. He wants to share with us His

fullness just as He did when sending Christ.

I cannot put into words better the Purpose of the Holy Ghost than is given in the testimony of Joseph and Sidney

Rigdon in the end of their vision on February 16 th 1832:

[Sec 76:8a] But great and marvelous are the works of the Lord and the mysteries of his kingdom which he showed unto

us, which surpasses all understanding in glory, and in might, and in dominion, which he commanded us we should not

write, while we were yet in the Spirit, and are not lawful for man to utter,

[Sec 76:8b] neither is man capable to make them known, for they are only to be seen and understood by the power of

the Holy Spirit, which God bestows on those who love him and purify themselves before him; to whom he grants this

privilege of seeing and knowing for themselves;

[Sec 76:8c] that through the power and manifestation of the Spirit, while in the flesh, they may be able to bear his

presence in the world of glory. And to God and the Lamb be glory, and honor, and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

When you read the scripture below, ask yourself the question. Can this truly be said of you? Are you one to this degree

with God?

[Sec 1:8a] What I, the Lord, have spoken I have spoken, and I excuse not myself;

[Sec 1:8b] and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled,

whether by mine own voice, or by the voice of my servants, it is the same;

[Sec 1:8c] for behold, and lo, the Lord is God, and the Spirit beareth record, and the record is true, and the truth

abideth for ever and ever. Amen.

How much responsibility is there upon the Lord’s people to get things right?

To submit to the Father in all things as Christ our example did.

Our flesh becoming subject to His Spirit as Christ did.

Allowing ourselves to become teachable with a passionate desire to learn.

To be more worthy of the name we took upon us at the time of our Baptisms.

To know that name by which we are called once we are begotten through the covenant– Christ

To be a Son or Daughter in the same way Christ is – By the Holy Ghost

Asking God to enter our tabernacle of flesh that our bodies might be temples, even Temples of the Holy Ghost, made

pure because He is pure. Sharing of His righteousness so that we may become righteous through Him. Becoming

justified through Christ being our advocate, to stand in the very presence of God the Father in the Fullness of His

Celestial Kingdom. Being presented spotless through the merits of Jesus Christ who is mighty to save.

Report on Philippines MissionaryTrip by Elder Murray & Sr. Delma Broughton

We left Australia for Philippines 29 th April 2016 and arrived 3:25 p.m. Manila time. We went home to Trece

Martirez and had study at night. We left next day for Baclaran and met some of the saints there. We sang gospel songs

for children outside (on the streets) and in the evening we had study on Acts: Chapter 9. We had a spiritual night as we

studied. Next day, May 1 st , we went to Christopher and Joy's wedding at 9 a.m. After the wedding we went back to

Trece Martirez. After a few hours rest we had study in the evening at 7. We had a good study and fellowship together.

The next day May 2 nd , we left Trece Martirez and travelled to Puerto Galera with few other people who came with us.

We had a good trip singing hymns inside the car going to the wharf - to get in the boat that would take us to the island

of Puerto Galera. So far so good. The sea was calm and we could see the beautiful creations and creatures of God: the

fish, flying up out of the water and many big ships going in different directions. What a beautiful sight to behold. While

on the boat, we were thinking how amazing it is to view God's creation. After one hour on the sea, we arrived at our

destination. We are welcomed bySr. Joy and her family with a huge smile. They lead us to their well-prepared dining

room tables. We arrived at 8 a.m. Sister Joy, is the only member of our church there, but her husband and her family

are very supportive. She teaches the Sunday school children with the help of her family. She goes visiting to the remote

areas. She asked the "Mangyans" to come down and study the word of God. These people, "Mangyans" they are

called, live in the mountain and far from civilization and now and again they come down to the village to learn to read

and write and to be able also to communicate with the village people. Sister Joy is very kind hearted to teach them and

help them in this way. These Mangyans children receive the gift of Bro.Bob & Sister Bev Wilkinson from Australia.

The gift they sent last year was received on time for Christmas 2015 for the Sunday school children. “Thank you very

much for your gifts, Brother Bob and Sister Beverly Wilkinson of Australia. You made them happy.” We thank the

Lord for your kindness especially to the less fortunate.

The next day 3 rd May, we had a communion service. Priest Julius Candido came with us and sang gospel songs for the

children. I talked to the Mangyans with Bro.Julius’ help of interpreting our conversation. They came from the

mountain where there is no electricity. Five families were at our communion service. During our service, we studied

Daniel: Chapter 6: These Mangyans people need help financially and spiritually. My heart goes out to those less

fortunate. Only God knows what their future will hold. On 5 th May we travelled back to Trece Martirez, visiting homes

with Bro.Julius. We held Sunday school and communion service. We continued with studies and visiting.

May 8 th , we left at 4 a.m. for Baclaran, then travelled to Antipolo. Two people made a covenant with the Lord. I

baptized Jason Bernadas and Joan Mata, at YASAK RESORT. We had a solemn and spiritual baptismal service. We

held a confirmation and communion service with 20 people who attend. We had an administration also. May 9 th , we

travelled early to Agno Pangasinan. It was a long trip and we arrived before lunch. In the evening we had a priesthood

meeting. Next day we visited people in the morning, (because very hot in the afternoon) and had preaching service in

the evening. May 11 th – we held Sunday school for the children, a class for the youth. An evening prayer and testimony

service was held, with a youth choir singing. While we were there we held youth studies, Sunday school and prayers

and singing hymns and gospel songs. Many had administration also. May 15 th , we baptised Joshua V.Datu, at Aloleng

Beach, and his confirmation was during the night service.

May 17 th , we blessed 3 children. We continued to visit, hold children’s Sunday school, as well as youth classes, and

preaching in the evening at 7 p.m. May 18 th , we left Agno at 3:45 a.m. for Candon, Ilocos Sus where we have a family

of four members. We arrived there with open arms by the happy people. The chairs and tables were already set up for

our services. We had our church and preaching services with the saints and other people. I preached on Ordinances of

Priesthood. After the preaching Bro.Julius taught the Sunday school. 18 children were there. We sang gospel songs with

sister Delma and Virginia. I gave Bibles to some who wanted a bible. I had a class with the adults who seemed very

interested. I love these people and I felt the spirit of God, wherever we went. It was a long distance to travel. I feel

happy doing the work to spread God's word to the people who came from far places. It was 3 o'clock in the afternoon

and we had to say good-bye to them, and travelled going back to Manila. On the way, there was a thunder storm and

heavy rain all the way to Manila. It was a long and slow trip and heavy traffic in some areas. We sang gospel songs to

keep everyone awake in the car, especially my brother-in- law Ernie who was driving us around. Thank you, Brother

Ernie. We arrived in Baclaran at 1:30 in the morning of May 18 th . We went back to Trece Martirez. On May 21 st , the

COJC sisters and brothers organized a get together for my birthday. The Antipolo saints, Trece Martirez and some of

Agno saints came along, and we had a full house and every one stayed overnight. We had a good day with a get

together with the saints who travelled a far distance to be with us. A mother and her son (born with hole in his heart)

came along. When they were leaving she said to me she will never forget in all her days, for the prayers and fasting for

her son. He is now a healthy man. His name is Jeric. Sunday May 22 nd , Elder Ace de Vera,Elder Murray Broughton,

Priest Julius Candido, Deacon Richard Candido and Deacon Constantino Natino Jr. together with Antipolo saints,

Trece Martirez saints and some Agno Saints held a communion service together with administration for sister Susan

who had to come home from work. On May 25 th , we held a prayer and testimony service which was a very spiritual

time together. Our short stay there sharing the word of God was really an eye opener for those people who have not

heard before. I love doing it and I pray to God that he will give me good health and strength to go on and continue the

work which we have started and to the people who accepted and made a covenant to the Lord to be faithful to the end.

We left the Philippines on the 28 th and arrived in Australia on the 29 th May 2016. I felt the cold, after being in

the Philippines. I was asked by Pastor Geoff to take the Sunday service the next day at Kelvin View. God gave the

strength and guidance to do his will. We thank our heavenly Father for watching over us. Many are in need of financial

help for operations and to keep their homes from being seized by the banks. We are trying to help when we can.

Commandments from the Scriptures - Revised and Enlarged

From: Lyle Smith

Newly Revised and Enlarged

Commandments from the Scriptures

“When men should keep all my commandments, Zion should again come on the earth” (Genesis 9:21).

More than 30 years have passed since the first printing of 2,000 copies of the booklet Commandments from the Scriptures. Subsequently, the booklet had three more printings of 2,000 copies each. The fourth and last printing was in 1990, making a total of 8,000 copies.

Due to recent requests, the women’s department of the Church of Jesus Christ, Oak Grove Restoration Branch, decided to once more make this valuable booklet available. This new edition is not simply a reprint of the original. It has been expanded, revised, and rearranged.

Abundant life revolves around God’s love for us and ours for him. Without God’s love dwelling in us, it is impossible to keep all the commandments. When we love him, with all our heart, might, mind, and strength, and walk with him daily in an intimate relationship—then it is possible! This relationship is more important than using the booklet as a taskmaster for keeping the commandments. On the other hand, this booklet can help us discover areas in our lives that need improvement.

The 44-page booklet lends itself well for private and family worship and classroom settings at church, retreats, and camps.

Copies are available at the Restoration Bookstore, The Book of Mormon Foundation, or from Paul and Dee Ludy who will have copies for sale during some of the reunions this summer. Or you can contact Paul at or call Paul at (816) 210-8450.

Fran's CofC Conference reports - Days 5, 6, 7, and 8

From: Franinzion

Fran's CofC Conference reports

Here are my conference reports. Day 1 is 4 pages, day 2 is 1 page, conference days 3 & 4 (I don't remember how many pages) and last days 5,6,7,&8 is 9 pages. Feel free to share remembering that these are what I saw and heard to the best of my ability. There are typos and grammatical errors I'm sure. My testimony remains firm, this is the Lord's church, He is still in control and He will set His house in order in His own time. I am thankful that the Lord did reassure me of this during this difficult period.

In gospel bonds,

Conference Day 5, Wednesday June 8, 2016

This was a short day of business which began at 11 AM and ended at 12 PM. Our new Presiding Bishop Stassi Cramm remarked, “I just want to say how excited I am that being on the World Church Finance Board is now a cool thing to do.” New nominees for the finance board were made and their biographies were included in our Thursday bulletin.

Other vacancies were voted on one being the Graceland Board of Trustees. In addition the Conference supported the appointments of the presidents of seventy and the new counselors to the High Priests Quorum.

In the afternoon session, the Conference began work on a common consent item: Mission, Tithing and Priesthood Response. Delegates had 2 versions to choose from 1:1 and 1:1a which had been modified in response to members’ reactions. Work on developing consent will continue through Saturday.

A substitute Resolution for G1 Issues of Priesthood Morality was made. I will include the Resolved, That the First Presidency explore options and opportunities for meaningful and respectful dialog among members and priesthood how individual, family and congregational activities, lifestyles, and choices can be more closely and more faithfully aligned with the values and morals lifted up in the Enduring Principles and Doctrine and Covenants 164:6a-b. These discussions themselves should embody these values while we encourage each other and ourselves to live lives worthy of Zion and a priesthood of all believers; and be it further
Resolved, That the First Presidency make these guidelines, options, and opportunities for meaningful and respectful dialog available to congregational and mission center leadership no later than June 7, 2018.

A question was asked regarding the new resolution to have all business resolutions and information published and available to the World Church 1 year prior to the next conference and if that conference should be in April how this June date would meet this criteria and President Veazey said it would not be a problem.

Conference Day 6, Thursday June 9, 2016

Margaret (Peggy) Young was honored by President Veazey for her behind the scenes effort in managing the communication system at the lectures during conference for 30 years representing 15 consecutive conferences. She has also been the Parliamentarian for the mass meetings of elders. All of this being volunteer service.

We elected the members to the World Church Finance Board.

A report on the CoC Seminary was read. We have 100 graduates thus far with Matthew Frizzell being the current Dean.
I made a note of the budget for conference and the total collected and since I’m writing this report at the conclusion of conference I will give the totals from our Saturday bulletin. Conference budget was set at $110,000 and the total received was $131,825.35, with $21,683.74 designated for oblation from the Sunday morning Sacrament service.

The total conference registration was 2,733.

It is noted that the actual number of delegates to this conference is much smaller and their are many available seats in the main chamber. My former church home in the Los Angeles Stake is so small they are now part of the Pacific Southwest Mission Center which reaches as far east as Las Vegas, Nevada and as far south as northern Mexico.

After lunch we continue this new exercise in common consent where we are now known as the “committee of the whole.”

It is explained that we will have 2 rounds of 6 people speaking for, against and neutral or undecided and all will speak at lecture 5 which is front and center in the chamber.

Against man - Concerned about the direction this takes us. We have never approved the “enduring principles” or “Six principles of disciples.”

Neutral man - Tithing, God and Grace defined is excluded from this definition.

For man - I’m sort of for this.

For woman - This woman spoke in Tahitian which was translated into French and then into English and I have no idea what she was trying to say other than she supported the resolution.

Neutral man - This lacks the words striving and giving to local and world church.

Against man - What is tithing, well it’s 10%. There is no spirituality in this.

For man - We will be blessed whether we give a portion or to full capacity.

Neutral woman - There is no education as to tithing.

Against man - This is a simple statement but not easy to understand what is being said, a tenth of what? Increase or income, time, talents? The original definitions found in scriptures were clear and easy to understand this is not.

Neutral man - This is a formula for giving but people are going to give what they’re going to give. Poor cannot give 10% of income or those who have large medical expenses or the youth with large debt.

For man - I give my full support as this has been changed due to feed back from saints around the globe.

Someone else spoke against but I am do not have that comment recorded. I will offer my “against” comment - this is wordy, without meaning and not scriptural.

In 2014 the First Presidency and the Presiding Bishopric came up with a new definition of tithing. The feedback requested by President Veazey did not endorse the new definition. It is referred to as “The history that refuses to rise above.” To my opinion these words mean that the saints are still clinging to their scriptures (praise the Lord) and refuse to allow men to change what God has given as His law regarding tithing.

At this point another of the “Moment of Blessing” is presented. I do not appreciate these time outs to push the delegation towards the desired outcome. Always a pretty song was sung and some politically correct prayers read and some directions to breathe and always, devoid of the spirit of God. I’m sure there are others who would disagree.

A vote is taken and the results are: 16% show no support for this new law, 14% show little or no support, 32% are undecided, 22% show significant support and 16% show full support.

Next we answer 2 surveys using our polling devices. This is a good way to see exactly what the percentages are of those in the delegation towards a particular set of statements.

First survey: Why do you support/not support the new definition of tithing? Your choices are and the percentages they received. 1. Need more clarification. 10%, 2. More study needed. 17%, 3. Section 165 clearly defines tithing with no need for additional clarification. 19%, 4. This is not meaningful in my culture. 6%,
I think/believe community giving also should be acceptable as tithing. 8%,
I think/believe tithing should be based on 10 percent of what is left after covering just wants and needs. 11% DC 106:1b and this shall be the beginning of the tithing of my people; and after that, those who have thus been tithed, shall pay one tenth of all their interest annually; and this shall be a standing law unto them for ever, for my holy priesthood, saith the Lord. I am glad to see there are some who still believe in this law given to the church for ever.
This definition best supports our mission, Christ’s mission. 14%, 8. Tithing should be defined in 2 categories: tithing and general offerings. 7%, 9. Other. 7%.

Second survey: Perspectives on Priesthood Support: Your choices are and the percentages they received. 1. Scripture supports the expectation that priesthood members should tithe. 10%, 2. I think/believe tithing expectations should apply to all disciples and not just priesthood. 46%, 3. My personal experiences support the expectation that priesthood members should tithe. 8%, 4. Contributing tithing does not guarantee an effective priesthood member. 9%, 5. A requirement for priesthood to contribute tithing may prevent initiation of priesthood calls. 6%, 6. Tracking of tithing contributions may conflict with personal privacy laws. 2%, 7. Regular tithing should be required of priesthood members. 10%, 8. Every priesthood member may not have the capacity to contribute tithes. 7%, 9. Other. 2%.

The matter of G1 regarding morality and priesthood is discussed and Apostle Linda Booth moves to refer all matters to the First Presidency. She mentions future prophesy that might give us more insight and I am reminded of the young man who told us earlier that future prophesy would be forth coming. There is a little more discussion and then debate closed and the vote to refer is approved 1,559 - 476.

The next items of business is to revise our by laws. The First Presidency asks the conference to agree that they (the First Presidency can suspend the by laws of the church whenever they desire). There is mentioned “the Scope of Notice” and what exists now and what they want to do. They are requesting a “Temporary Provision” to try new things, experiments during this next TRIENIUM (3 year period now between World Conferences). Apostle Ron Harmon explains they are trying new models for pastoring congregations and mission centers.

We are told that the business session for tomorrow will be from 8:30-11:30 and 1:30-5 in order to take care of all the business that is yet left undone.

Conference day 7, Friday June 10, 2016

The assignments of the 70’s and their apostles are announced. John Wight is the President of 70’s and our 70 in the Central USA Mission Field.

C4 the resolution that new business must be brought to the World Church 1 year prior to the World Conference passed.

G7 Support of Indigenous Peoples passed. This resolution asks for the First Presidency to issue a statement renouncing “The Doctrine of Discovery” and urges governments to comply with policies affecting these peoples be upheld. In a nutshell the Doctrine of Discovery relates to 15th century explorers conquering lands to expand Christianity and moving the native people off their lands. “What about God raising up other nations to bring judgment upon these lands?” asks a woman near by but not expressed vocally on the floor. Hm?

C6 Asks for the publication of all World Church Resolutions and to remove obsolete language such as branches, districts, and stakes and to be written in our new church language. This passed.

Other proposals that easily passed were G5 Opposition to Predatory Loan Practices and G2 Closed Captioning.

G6 was decidedly the most contentious issue addressed this week. We all want peace on earth but deciding which path to take to pursue that peace was torturous. The title of the resolution was Peace in Israel and Palestine. The Peace and Justice Team of the Community of Christ believes that the best solution for Peace in Israel is for the Israelis to move its military forces out of the West Bank and allowed Palestine to exist as a separate and independent state. I remember seeing this discussion on television with President Obama suggesting President Benjamin Netanyahu do the same. I also remember President Netanyahu explaining to our USA President that this is not possible to do in order to maintain safety and security for the nation of Israel. I understood this very clearly.

Jim Hannah speaking as a representative of the Peace and Justice team urged the church to vote for this 2 state solution as the World Council of Churches supports this and we are now a member of this organization. He makes reference to Jesus the peace builder and immediately this scriptures pops into my mind.
Matthew 10:30 Think not, that I am come to send peace on earth; I came not to send peace, but a sword.

Now the discussion begins:

Against man - This will not bring peace to the land of Israel. We will be standing on a side that leaves Christians in the area without safety or protection.

For man - Today Israel has banned 63,000 permits to travel to Jerusalem for Ramadan.
(Sounds like a wise plan for safety and protection to me)

Against man - The creation of Palestine is because they want to destroy Israel. Just this week 2 Palestinians walked into a restaurant and shot innocent Israelis. We must stand with Israel.

For man - This entangles US in politics, we are already there. All weapons from your country have your name on them. We can give up Peace if we aren’t willing to stand up for it.

Against man - Originally I was for this until I listened in the Elders Quorum and was made aware that we really just don’t know enough of the real situation in Israel to be telling them what they should be doing.

For man - From French Polynesia, we are for peace so we should support this. Go ahead do it, God’s spirit will be with you to bring peace. Don’t fall asleep, wake up!

An amendment is proposed to leave out the part calling for the Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank siting the deadly attack in Tel Aviv on Wednesday of this week.

Now we are debating the amendment.

Someone says, “Since Allah, Jehovah and Yahweh are the same God” but I don’t know who says this or in what context it is given.

A woman says she opposes the amendment and her grandfather is a Polish jew and her grandmother a German jew. She comments Israel has been a state for almost 70 years and we need peace. I really can’t tell if she wants the 2 state solution or for Israel to stay in tact.

Another man declares that Israel has never defined its borders. I have no idea what that means and if any of you out there reading this do know to what this man is referring will you please write to me and explain this statement to me?

Andrew Bolton, a recently retiring Apostle who is returning to the office of seventy and a member of the Peace and Justice Team is against the amendment to the resolution as he believes the resolution is fair and balanced. He sites the Palestinian Christian who is head of the Lutheran Church in the area, if I understand him correctly, is a moderate and Andrew states this resolution supports moderates.
Another scripture comes to my mind from the Book of Revelation 3:15 & 16 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot; I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth.

For amendment woman - We do not have a right to tell the country how to resolve their problems. This is colonialism, we need to pray for peace of Israel.

For amendment Man- This is the most important thing we can discuss this week.

Against amendment Woman - I spent 10 days in Israel and spoke with our non Israeli tour guide and my ideas on Israel changed. We don’t know enough to put forth this resolution.

Man wanting to amend by substitution states - we ask for peace talk and to end all hostilities but we cannot define steps to that peace. The Community of Christ believes in worth of all persons but there as been a conflict going on before WWI with Palestine siding with Adolph Hitler on Israeli genocide.

For Amendment man - Islam is a religion of peace.

Against man adds Substitute amendment remove “We denounce all islamophobia and anti-semitism and judeophobia. I have seen in action anti Christian and anti judeophobia in action.”

For amendment to amendment man - In March Vice President Biden says Palestine would have to recognize Israel. We should not take sides as they work together for peace.

Against Amendment - I do not like word “islamophobia” which is inflammatory. The church should not dictate what other should do.

Vote on amendment was 1030 against and 843 for.

Now back to substitute amendment

For man - when we say victims we must say both Palestine and Israel. Israel is defending all its borders both Palestinians and Israelis.

Against amendment - Israel has never defined its borders. There are groups of “moderates” who oppose Israel in the West Bank.

Again there is reference to Israel not defining its borders and I am perplexed.

For amendment man - If we removed “Israeli to cease military occupation” out of the original resolution I could go for it.

Against man - Wise and informed international experts have guided the original resolution so I’m against the amendment.

Vote on substitute amendment was 1161 against and 592 for.

Back to the original resolution

For man - I’m for peace.

Against woman - In the 6 day war Israel won land that was theirs. It is the only country that dates back to Jesus. “Blood of the Lamb” is a book telling of the suffering of Israel. Jesus is a jew, from the house of Israel, we are adopted in by baptism, we need to take care of our brothers and sisters.

For man - the church has raised my consciousness of peace and justice. Palestinians suffer daily.

Against woman - The UN resolution applies to us. We took land from Mexico and Great Britain. Should we give those lands back? Companies in this country (USA) cannot export to Palestine and Syria because they are not stable or trustworthy.

Question - Was this not already answered in “Indigenousness People” resolution?

Move to close debate and vote.

In summary the resolution instructs the church to join with other religious (World Council of churches) and secular peace movements (UN and others) to call for peace in Israel and Palestine with the following conditions: the right of Israel to exist within secure borders; the end of Israeli occupation and settlements in the West Bank; and the recognition of the State of Palestine.

For 1332 Against 569
The next item of business was to decide dates for the 2019 World Conference. Since it will be the 25th anniversary of the Temple the decision was for April and the date which received the most votes was April 6 - 13, 2019.

Conference day 8, Saturday June 11, 2016

Today we begin with another “Moment of Blessing.” I’ve already stated my opinion.

Now we are going to discuss changes to the law of tithing. This is all very interesting to me as to how we can take a law given to us by the Lord, specifically Section 106 of our Doctrine and Covenants, and decide that we want to do something different. We have Resolution 1 which was not well received by the delegates as it wanted to call for 10% of a persons income to be donated to the church as tithing before they meet their necessary living expenses without giving consideration to a persons financial ability to do so.

Resolution 1a was giving to us on Monday from the First Presidency and Presiding Bishopric. Title: Mission, Tithing, and Priesthood Response. Proposed: this definition of tithing and priesthood expectation be endorsed by the World Conference: Stewardship is whole-life response to the ministry of Jesus Christ. One way stewardship is expressed is through tithing. Tithing literally means a tenth. The spirit of tithing is giving generously to one’s true capacity. Tithing is giving to support local and worldwide church ministries in pursuit of Jesus Christ’s mission.

Today Presiding Bishop and President Stassi Cramm says the First Presidency has changed the title of 1a and we are now calling it Resolution 1b Mission and Tithing.
This is the “new” proposal: Community of Christ has agreed that “tithing is a spiritual practice that demonstrates willingness to offer evert dimension of one’s life to God” D&C 165:2d
Therefore, it is proposed, as these words find expression in the church, the following affirmations guide us:
Stewardship is whole-life response to God’s grace and the ministry of Jesus Christ. One way stewardship is expressed is through the spiritual practice of tithing. Although tithing literally means a tenth, giving generously to one’s true capacity is the spirit of tithing. Tithing of time, talent treasure and testimony supports local and worldwide church ministries in pursuit of Jesus Christ’s mission. All disciples are called to live as faithful stewards who tithe.

We are told that these changes are due to the committee of the whole reporting back to the First Presidency and Presiding Bishopric and the “prophetic voice” of the people has been heard.

Now we are to get into small groups with people we do not know and discuss whether we favor 1a or 1b. The 3 of us find 4 people we do not know seated behind us so we form our group. Interestingly enough we are all in agreement that the laws of tithing were established in the D&C early on and those are the laws which we must abide since Section 106 specifically says this is a law unto the church “for ever.” A man in our group says he would title this exercise “Ode to Ambiguity” since you can read anything you want into resolution 1a or 1b and they both say exactly the same thing. Apparently the church leaders got the prophetic memo.

After our group discuss we are told that in processing priesthood calls the persons giving record is looked at to make sure that persons gives equally to support both the local and World church. I could say a few words here but I don’t think my commentary is needed.

Now the body discusses Resolution 1a and 1b which basically say the same but everyone expresses their support for 1b and they each read into it what it says to them.

The “Moment of Blessing” Team is called up to make sure we all feel we are together at the close of this conference.

The final vote is taken. 1a receives 98 votes and 1b receives 1,736 votes.

President Veazey remarks that is 94% support and is the highest level of support ever.

President/Bishop Stassi Cramm says, “How great is that, we agree on tithing.”

Lesson learned: Keep your proposal simple, saying anything anyone says is okay and you will reach comment consent. Which was what the entire 4 day experiment was to help us to do, teach us how to reach comment consent.

We have another “Moment of Blessing” to celebrate and the doxology is sung and Philippians 4 is read.

President Veazey calls for a sustaining of the leaders followed by the notice that usually we sustain the Quorems but that this has no meaning as no one is going to lose their priesthood if the Quorems are not sustained so we are doing away with this practice for ever. There are no objections from the floor.

This is the close of my report but I must add that I did hear some very positive testimonies following conference in which priesthood and members had experiences in which they were assured by the Lord that He was still in charge of His church even though the persons sharing these testimonies could not support what occurred at the conference. This is my testimony as well and why I continue to attend and share my reports with you. This is the Lord’s church, it is He who will set it in order in His time. My job is to love Him and love His people, remain faithful and keep His commandments.

Fran's CofC Conference reports - Day 3 and 4

From: Franinzion

Fran's CofC Conference reports

Here are my conference reports. Day 1 is 4 pages, day 2 is 1 page, conference days 3 & 4 (I don't remember how many pages) and last days 5,6,7,&8 is 9 pages. Feel free to share remembering that these are what I saw and heard to the best of my ability. There are typos and grammatical errors I'm sure. My testimony remains firm, this is the Lord's church, He is still in control and He will set His house in order in His own time. I am thankful that the Lord did reassure me of this during this difficult period.

In gospel bonds,
Fran Manning

Conference Day 3, Monday, June 6, 2016

I will begin with a word of encouragement. The 10:30 Legislation Session began with the singing of “We Limit Not the Truth of God.” During the singing the Lord assured me by His spirit that He was still in charge of His church. He must have known I needed that.
We received the usual greetings from both our US Senators, Claire McCaskill and Roy Blunt as well as Independence mayor, Eileen Weir.
Today we are voting on the “Words of Counsel” written by Steven Veazey (their words, not mine) and shared with the conference in 2013 but now newly revised they are being offered for inclusion in the Doctrine and Covenants.
Brother Veazey began by making reference to our historical practice of voting on documents as a whole and that is best so we will no long vote on paragraph by paragraph. The first time I remember this being done was at the 1984 conference when the infamous Section 156 was presented to the conference with its call for ordination of women as well as to build the temple. I will never forget that conference.
Prior to the voting process today, as was done yesterday when voting of the new leaders, a ceremony takes place. Two people offer prayers. Sadly they are written in the New Language of the church* and leave no room for the spirit of God. “Let go so we become vulnerable not just to your Holy Spirit but to each other,” is an example of which I speak. What does that mean?
Then there was a nice presentation by Lacklan Mackay on the history of Conference and the auditorium which seems fitting since Brother Mackay has been in charge of our historical sites for some time. He is a most pleasant fellow and I really enjoyed this.
In 1927 Conference was held at the Stone Church. October of 1928 brought the saints to the first Conference in the auditorium with its open roof, construction having begun in 1920. Elbert A. Smith remarked about 12 sparrows nibbling on the communion bread. Because of the financial crisis in the US the progress of building the auditorium was slow. They made a practice of only spending what was brought in to the treasury after getting into some financial distress which President FM Smith said was due to expanding too rapidly, he said they had a false sense of security. So lessons learned, the church came together like never before and sacrificed to put the church on solid financial footing. Fredrick Madison Smith did not live to see the auditorium completed in 1962, 42 years after his dream was envisioned. I was here for that conference as I was on spring break from Graceland College. The Spirit of Giving had become prevalent. I’m sure this is true as the saint at that time were working under the direction and guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Lord cannot bless the church financially or any other way when we choose to go our way rather than His!
Next the reports from all the Caucus’ were heard on “Words of Counsel,” beginning with the First Presidency, then the 12 Apostles, next the Seventy which now has 10 Quorums (I thought it was supposed to be 7 quorums of 70 with a total of 490 members if the quorums were full), then the High Priests Quorum, the Order of Evangelists, the Aaronic Mass Meeting, the Elders Mass Meeting, the Children and Youth Caucus and the various delegate caucus. An interesting note was that the English speaking caucus had a significant majority but the vote was not unanimous.
Now it was time for discussion.
There were several good comments to note.
Man - I remember President Schaal’s sermon, “Call to Tithe” and I increased my giving by 1% each month but noticed my credit card was getting higher. Then I knew I was to resolve unnecessary debt and my financial condition improved and I was no longer in debt and was able to continue to increase my giving.
Man - As we give generously we will be blessed. We will discover when we give with courage we will have more money than we thought. This is my testimony also. It has been my experience that you cannot out give the Lord.
After lunch the discussion continued.
I will comment here on the New Language of the church. You’ve heard of Old English and Modern English. One can hardly understand Old English even though it is spoken in the same language as modern English. This is true for the new Community of Christ Politically Correct language. I know our Latter Day Saints language is not always understood by those not members of the church but the new COC language is not understood by its own members. I gave an example in my Saturday report of the woman who wanted to know what the wording in a particular paragraph of the “Words of Counsel” meant and no one chairing the meeting could give her an answer. The same thing happened with the first woman to speak in the afternoon discussion.
We are now discussing paragraph 3.
Woman - I need clarification on 3d, what does a variety of human types mean?
President K. Scott Murphy cannot answer because he does not want to speak for Brother Veazey who has left the room as is the custom when the new documents are being discussed for inclusion in the Doctrine and Covenants. Brother Murphy says he does not know what President Veazey’s thoughts are on this.
As another delegate said to me, “they speak in flowery words but they are without meaning.” I think that sums it up quite nicely.
Man - I rise to speak against these words being put into the Doctrine and Covenants. I’m sure God would love all the little green men on Mars and I can accept alternate lifestyles but I do not approve of them. Others may choose to leave the church over these decisions, we risk losing finances and membership over this not to mention that many of our brother and sisters in other countries could be killed over this wording.
Woman - Our church has to change. I have another priesthood call but because I lack education I cannot have that call.
Woman - I have 2 sons with Asberger’s Syndome, one is more severe than the other. His behavior limits him. A Seventy grabbed him by the ears. Paragraph 3 speaks to this.
Man - I was away from the church for many years until my husband convinced me to join this church, it is a wonderful thing that has happened to me.
Woman - I am a victim of priesthood abuse, mental not physical. Many women are recipients of this abuse.
Woman - I have noticed persons are called because of their personal connections.
Next is a discussion of paragraph 5
David Brock our previous Presiding Evangelist offers the new “expanded” use of the ordinance of the Evangelist blessing. Quoting from the Words of Counsel 5b “Offer the sacrament of evangelist blessing not only to individuals and congregations, but to families, households, and groups seeing spiritual guidance to more completely give themselves to Christ’s mission.”
They have not only changed the name of the Patriarchal blessing they have given it a new definition.
After each paragraph was discussed a discussion on the whole document was in order.
Young women in 20’s - After hearing these words at the last conference I prayed about it and the Lord said, “No!” For this reason I do not support this document and if you do not support it you are not alone.
Woman - My congregation has gone from being the strongest in the area to a divided, broken, hurt group of people.
Man - My wife is a Roman Catholic. This is the first time she has come to conference with me. After hearing Brother Veazey speak she told me, “You need to follow that man.”
Woman - I love all of you but I am against the Words of Counsel. I do not believe in the direction the church is going and these words are a continuation of the wrong direction in which we are going. For these reasons I must vote against the Words of Counsel.
I believe you are trying to make man’s words into God’s words.
Man - There is a diversity of beliefs, thought and so forth. I am for it.
Woman - I am against the process. We have never spent 3 years discussing a revelation. It is as if we spent 3 years seeing what the people wanted and making the Counsel fit the desires of the people. I must vote against this.
The vote was taken and the majority support these Words for inclusion in the Doctrine and Covenants but there were several around the chamber that raised their hands in opposition.
The last order of business for the day was to prioritize the items we wanted to discuss. The overwhelming response was to place item G1 Priesthood Morality first. My first priority was to stand with Israel and vote down the Resolution to give support to the Palestinian state within Israel. That will be discussed further on in the conference.

Monday Endnotes.
Sunday evening President Veazey gave an address to the church after the ordinations.
He relayed this hopeful news. Forty-six church families have pledged $63 million to the church over the next 25 years. The Canadian field has raised $2.3 million to be setup as an endowment for the church in Canada.

Conference Day 4, Tuesday June 7, 2016

The first order of business was to announce the various mission fields for the Apostles. Our new apostle in the Central Mission is Janne Collins Grover. I have known this girl since she was young. Her father, Gary Collins, was part of our LA Stake Zion’s League and a good buddy of my husband. Gary and his wife, Ramona, attended Graceland College when I did. Ramona and I share an Aunt and Uncle (my uncle married her aunt) and she is a cousin to my brother-in-law, Michael Hawley. You know what they say, we haven’t stirred the gene pool too much in the church. The Collins family and the Manning family built houses across the road from each other one summer in Conception Junction, Missouri, so our children spent 5 years together. We are very aware of Janne’s gifts and talents, she is a very capable woman. That being said I still had to vote against her call because I do not believe it was divine.
For my California friends who are reading this Apostle Ronald Harmon is assigned to your area. I don’t know if this is a new assignment or not.

Next we are on to the Financials and for the first time ever I was able to understand most of it due to the excellent teamwork presentation of the newly ordained Presiding Bishopric, Stassi Cramm being the First Woman to be the Presiding Bishop and her counselors, Michele McGrath and Steven Graffeo.

Bishop Stassi had brought 3 chairs from her dining room onto the center stage. She invited us to sit with her and enjoy as if we were having cake and coffee. We were told we would be given a highlight of our current financial status, some good news stories and then we would be able to ask questions.

These 3 are extremely gifted persons. This is very apparent in the way they are able to explain the financial situation, projections and plans in a manner that I can understand.

This model is used to explain our finances. The church has papyas and coconuts.
The church has a coconut plantation (endowments). Some trees are not producing due to being over harvested so the leaders have stopped harvesting for an indefinite period of time to allow the trees to regain their health.
The church will live on papayas. The church will also look into growing mangos.

This was quite simple laid out and I got it.

Stassi spoke of the loss of 120 paid staff positions for which they apologize. They will plan to apply the lessons learned over the past year. This was explained in detail.
They plan to liquidate real estate and put those funds into areas that will give a good return. They do not plan to sell any of our historical sites which is always a concern to the saints. Stassi assures us we have other lands to sell which have been left to the church but have not historical significance. They do have permanently restricted endowments which are gifts given for specific items. Currently we own 3,250 acres in the Little Blue River Valley of Jackson County, Missouri. This property is referred to as Harmony. Living here I have heard of the different plans that have been proposed for this property. Sometimes the local paper has news items regarding this property. One of the current plans for 39 church owned acres which includes an unusable portion of Harmon is to lease the land for 30 years for Solar Panels. Fifty per cent of our utilities for the Temple and Auditorium will come from this project making us more “green.”
There is a pledge to honor retirement obligations.
Growing Mangos was discussed in connection with the Canadian reserves. See President Veazey’s Sunday evening address endnotes for Monday. I don’t know if this is what was being referenced or not.
Bishop Stassi Cramm said what we need now are papayas. Our budget is based on the incoming tithes. They want to build our base to bring in more money. I think this is a great idea but here is the problem which I foresee, you must preach the gospel for this to happen.
Many new plans and changes were presented. Coming soon is a site on the order of Kick starter of Go Fund me that you see popping up everywhere. This will enable saints to give directly to mission projects and 100% of the funds will go to those projects.
The past retirement plan for church appointees and staff has been changed to a defined contribution plan. Humana is the church employees insurance.
The church is reviewing policies to insure no invested moneys support tobacco or alcohol products, etc. The church is committed to being good stewards of the earth and will also insure their investments meet those high standards.
Stassi told us the Bishops would be wearing T Shirts tomorrow that say, “Nope, not today” which translated means the budget will stay buttoned down until balance is achieved. I think that is wise. Past Presiding Bishop G. Leslie Delapp was praised for only spending money we had.

I hope I have covered this subject adequately. I have more notes but I think this is enough on finance. I will add that as much as I believe this team leading the financial arm of the church is quite capable I am saddened that we have ordained women to these position, certainly not because they aren’t highly qualified, but because I do not believe this is the high calling to which they were created. Yes, indeed, “The Lord does have more light and truth to break forth from His word.”
