Betty Marie Leutzinger (Hutchins – Trimble – Amos)
Betty Marie Leutzinger, 97, of Independence, Missouri, passed away August 23, 2023. A cremation-memorial service will be held at Carson Speaks funeral Home: October 2. 2023 Following the memorial service, a short grave site service for interment of remains will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Independence Missouri.
Betty Marie, born November 19, 1925 in Joy, Illinois, to Warren W. and Mable M. Hutchins, former residence of Aledo, Illinois, was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Earl L. Hutchins of Sycamore, Illinois, and Ronald W. Hutchins, Aledo, Illinois; first husband, Ray V. Trimble of Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada; second husband, Lucian V. Amos of Oak Groove, Missouri; third husband, Rudolph L. Leutzinger, Sr. of Independence, Missouri.
Betty is survived by four children: Carolyn M. Gossman of Channahon, Illinois; Janet L. Miller of Jefferson City, Missouri; Diana L. Stronger of Midland, Michigan; and Steven R. Trimble of Independence, Missouri; eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Betty, a member of the Community of Christ, formerly known as the Reorganized Church of the Latter Day Saints (RLDS) , was baptized by immersion in the Mississippi River, New Boston, Illinois. She attended Aledo Elementary School and Aledo High School, graduating May, 1944.
Betty entered the Cadet Nurse Corp. program during World War II, graduating as a Registered Nurse February 14, 1947. In May, 1974 Betty graduated with a Bachelor in Nursing from Graceland College. She held nursing licenses in the states of Missouri, Illinois, Michigan, and the Providence of Ontario Cananda. During her nursing career Betty served as an operating room supervisor and an instructor for the Sanitarium and Hospital School of Nursing in Independence, Missouri. Betty retired from nursing in 1990, after years of caring for service men and women at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
Betty was a member of the Messiah Choir for 11 years and was active in her church choir and attended the South Crysler Restoration Branch in Independence, Missouri. A former member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employes (NARFE), Betty was also a charter member of Women in Military Service for America Memorial.
Betty traveled the world, was an avid painter and loved to sing. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, sharing her love for art, history, games and the Word of the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests a contribution to the Salvation Army in Betty Marie’s name.
