Glenda Ann Chiles
June 26, 1943 — July 30, 2024
Glenda Ann Chiles, 81 years young, passed away on July 30, 2024.

Glenda was born on June 26, 1943 in Holden Missouri, the daughter of Oren and Clara “Betty” Currie.

She graduated from Holden High School in the class of 1961. She obtained her Bachelor of Home Economics Education from the University of Missouri in 1964 and a Master of Social Work from Kansas University in 1991.

She married Ronald Chiles on Leap Day, February 29, 1964 and to this union were born four sons.

Glenda served her community professionally as a home economics teacher and then a clinical social worker retiring in 2008. But her contributions professionally pale in comparison to her roles in service to her family and her faith. Between careers, she was a phenomenal homemaker helping to raise four boys who deeply adored their mother.

She was a faithful servant of Jesus. She was a cornerstone of several congregations of the Community of Christ as we moved around the country and was ordained an evangelist in 2004. She also loved gardening, making quilts, puzzles, and working on ancestry, She had the opportunity to visit Alaska, Hawaii, Europe several times, the Caribbean, and several countries in northern South America and Central America. She loved to visit a resort in Cancun where we held a membership and where she made so many memories.

She was selfless beyond measure, a calming presence, full of joy, supportive, and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother,

Glenda is survived by her sisters, Janet Houx and Sharron Pierson; her husband, Ron Chiles; her son Shannon Chiles and his wife Kristen, her son Evan Chiles and his wife Julie, her son Jared Chiles and his wife Stephanie, her son Jon Chiles and his wife Linsie, 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father Oren Currie (1999) and her mother Betty Currie (2020).

A visitation was held on August 5, 2024. She will be laid to rest in Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence, MO.
