Geraldine (Geri) Ruth Lucas Woolery Obituary

Geri was born on July 27, 1924 in Independence, MO to George Lucas and Bertha Frick Lucas. She returned to her Heavenly Father on March 26, 2018 while in University Hospital in Columbia, MO for complications from pneumonia. She was surrounded by some of her family at the time of her passing. She now resides in the Paradise of God with those faithful family and friends who have gone on before her. She was the last of four children born to George and Bertha. Geri had two brothers and one sister. Her brother Joe was killed in action during WW II while on a bombing mission over Magdeburg, Germany on August 5, 1944. This was a great loss for Geri as well as the loss of her fiancé, Hall on June 6, 1944 during the D-Day invasion of Europe. Her parents, sister Miriam, son Donald Jr and infant grandsons Bradley and Matthew (Eric’s sons) also preceded her in death.

Geri grew up in the Mapleton, KS area on a farm and had several stories to tell of her growing up years. She loved horses and working outside. If given the choice she would rather do farm chores than house work.

After she married Donald E Woolery in 1947 they lived in the Kansas City, KS area until they lost everything they owned in the flood of 1951. They soon moved to Lawrence, KS where the last three of their four children were born. She was the mother of two boys (Don and Eric) and two girls (Mimi and Beka). Donald and Geri were divorced in 1970.

Geri was a life long member of the Reorganized church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints, though for the last 30 years of her life she was active in the Restoration Branches movement of that church. She had a strong faith in God and enjoyed listening to hymns, sermons or classes that spoke about her Heavenly Father and His only begotten Son Jesus Christ who she knew as her Lord, savior and redeemer. She loved to have the scriptures read to her, especially the Book of Mormon.

Geri owned and operated a nursery school for several years in Lawrence, she also worked for King Radio and then in the years before her retirement she worked as an independent maintenance contractor in Lawrence where she resided for most of her life. She also lived in Ft Scott, KS and Odessa, MO for short periods before settling in Independence, MO where she resided until just before her death.

The family wants to thank all of those people who chose to be a part of Geri’s life, to love her and to be her friend. We want to thank South Crysler Restoration Branch for providing weekly ministry in several ways to her over the last 9 years. She loved hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ and yearned to be in HIS presence always!

Geri is survived by her brother Nelson Lucas (Beverly) of Brown’s Valley, CA; son Eric Woolery (Rita) of Brookfield, MO; daughter Mimi Baba of Shenandoah, IA; daughter Beka Woolery of Waco, TX; 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, 4 nephews, 2 nieces and many friends.

Thank you for the many thoughts and prayers on our family's behalf. We have truly felt the presence and peace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ during these past few days. We are confident that HIS Spirit will continue to attend us in the days ahead.

Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And when I go, I will prepare a place for you, and come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, ye may be also. John 14:1-3

This is the Lord's promise to those who are faithful and we know that HE is faithful to the fulfilling of HIS word!

Eric Woolery
