Being One in Christ

Being One in Christ

The Apostle Paul understood the concept of “oneness” or being one in the Spirit and in our purpose.....

Ephesians 4:2-7
With all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one another in love;
Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace,
In one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

Are you able to see what he was saying? There is only one way, one path….not many - today, even within the Restoration, we have created many paths.

This was also made clear when we read the vision about the Rod of Iron in the Book of Mormon.
1 Nephi 2: 78-82
But, to be short in writing, behold, he saw other multitudes pressing forward; and they came and caught hold of the end of the rod of iron; and they did press their way forward, continually holding fast to the rod of iron, until they came forth and fell down and partook of the fruit of the tree.
And he also saw other multitudes feeling their way towards that great and spacious building.
And it came to pass that many were drowned in the depths of the fountain;
And many were lost from his view, wandering in strange roads.
And great was the multitude that did enter into that strange building.

Ephesians 4:13 Till we, in the unity of the faith, all come to the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

We read in the book the Endowment Characteristic #1 “In the great work of the Eternal, God is your Father in a deeper sense than you know. Jesus Christ is your elder brother.”

“His great purpose is not that there shall be one high and lifted up to whom all shall abjectly give heed. Rather, it is a noble association of deeply consecrated, inspired and gifted minds, humble to know the truth, anxious to glorify His high purpose and name, and deeply concerned as is He with the achievement of this, His high purpose for life.”

This unity and true knowledge sets us free
Ephesians 4: 14
Eph 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

We have grown from childhood to adulthood and have the vision to see these things and not rely on man……but on Jesus Christ. As it becomes very clear as to what we need to do / be

Eph 4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

As we start to “fit together” as Paul teaches the transformation continues (The situation that we are in, Covid - 19, might be the time that we need to reflect on how we can once again “fit together”)

Ephesians 5:8-10
For ye were sometime darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord; walk as children of light;
(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

Verse nine provides us sight into the Kingdom of God where we see what the definition of the Fruit of the Spirit is.

And the greater definition is given in Galatians 5:22-25
5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
5:23 Meekness, temperance; against such there is no law.
5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

As we navigate these times make sure to whom your compass is set to.

Yours in Christ
Brian Turner
