Spiritually Won Knowledge

From: B S TURNER Owner

Spiritually Won Knowledge

In Earl Curry’s book The Endowment he writes about a characteristic that leads us to a great concept of spiritually won knowledge.
He describes, accurately by the way, how we were able to achieve the things that we currently have…..some are inspired as men diligently seek answers. Some knowledge & insight is achieved by our own labor as he says “under the light of their own intellects and minds”

He continues to teach us what we already know about finding the solution to perplexing problems…..
“When shall these things be? They shall be when and as those who minister for Him cease placing much too great faith in the wisdom of the world; and when they shall learn that the arm of flesh cannot bring to pass the high purposes of the Lord. When this ceasing and this learning comes, then shall be fulfilled the word of the prophet that those who are weak and humble in the sight of this world shall thresh the nations by the power of God's Spirit.”

From the beginning of time in times of distress or need we first look to ourselves, or those that we think have more insight than we do for answers…
2 Chronicles 32:8 With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

We see in 2 Nephi that Nephi understood that trusting in the arm of the flesh is not a good thing, but to only trust in the Lord…
2 Nephi 3:62 I will not put my trust in the arm of flesh; for I know that cursed is he that putteth his trust in the arm of flesh.

What I find so amazing is that he understood how it really is to work. Turn to the Lord first ….. not last! I am sure that the Holy Spirit had manifested this insight to him. He even had the insight as to how to call on the Lord in such a way that he would be able to feast from the table of spiritual knowledge
 2 Nephi 3:
35 My God hath been my support; he hath led me through mine afflictions in the wilderness; and he hath preserved me upon the waters of the great deep.
38 Behold, he hath heard my cry by day, and he hath given me knowledge by visions in the night time.
39 And by day have I waxed bold in mighty prayer before him; yea, my voice have I sent up on high; and angels came down and ministered unto me.

Once we are on the path that Nephi describes we will be able to truly communicate with each other and see the same things....

By a simple prayer of inquiry Curry was able to discern the future needs and place that we as Saints need to be.
“……… if God's people will make themselves aware of the world's great need, if they will become aware of the church's desperate need for mighty spiritual power, if they will go up to the mountain of the Lord's House!  Will you stop your ears and let the cry of despair arising from tens of thousands of men and women lost in this wilderness of sin, commotion and of fear - will you let these cries be in vain?  When shall these things be? Hear ye, all those to whom this prophetic insight shall come. God will not always strive with man.”

Even Paul got it….
Colossians 1:
5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;
6 Which is come unto you, as in all generations of the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth;
9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and long-suffering with joyfulness;

You, yes you not someone else, need to be able to hear, discern and act on the many voices that are crying your name and vying for your attention…..make no mistake, the concept of spiritually won knowledge is a real thing for anyone of you that would be willing to prepare themselves. But it will take work and a dedication as noted by Curry….
“All who desire to enter into this larger, this profounder and this richer experience must earnestly seek thru inspired study and thru spiritual experiences of revelation both the near and far possibilities of your Heavenly Father's very special blessing. If you have no apprehending vision concerning these things you will not even try and seek for comprehensive understanding.”

He goes on to say….
“How shall you individually prepare? Desire, study, vision, revelation, perception of needs, mighty prayer, great faith - all these will richly reward any who try.”

There is something a bit different in the counsel given as to how to obtain the knowledge…..do you see it? There has to be a true desire to want to dip deep into the well of understanding and drink…..yes it is for everyone not just a select few….
Colossians 2:2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God and of Christ, who is of God, even the Father;

We see the recipe in Alma through the parable of the mustard seed…..
Alma 16:161 And this because you know; for ye know that the word hath swelled your souls, and ye also know that it hath sprouted up, that your understanding doth begin to be enlightened, and your mind doth begin to expand.

Find this scripture and read the previous verses and act on them. By doing these things you will be preparing yourselves today for what you will confront tomorrow.

God Bless
