Effie Dell Johnson Taylor

December 23, 1932 - April 16, 2023

Effie Dell Taylor passed away on April 16, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on December 23, 1932 to Otto Johnson and Mildred Frasier in Montebello, California (LA County). She had 2 older siblings, Leona Holt and Clyde Johnson. She was married at the age of 16 to Joseph L. Taylor in Yuba City, California in 1949. They had 3 children, Diana Taylor Gibson, Aaron Taylor, and Neil Taylor. They were married for 67 years before Joe’s passing in 2017.

Effie Dell had many gifts and talents. She was the ultimate hostess, welcoming family and friends gladly into her home. A talented creative person, she had a passion for many different arts and crafts and she passed this passion on to her children and grandchildren. Some of these include floral arranging, crafting, sewing, and gardening.

Effie Dell embraced her rich heritage in American Indian culture. Part of this was shown by the amazing Native American artifacts she collected from East to West.

Effie Dell and Joe attended the Farview Restoration Branch for many years until their deaths. Their commitment to their faith carried them through the tough and joyous times of their lives. When Joe was pastor of the Yuba City RLDS church, Effie Dell was a big part of his ministry, using her gifts to cook and decorate for every potluck and social event.

She had a passion for animals and always had a “baby” in her care. She leaves behind her little Sissy that she absolutely loved.

She was a very hard worker and had a “pull yourself up by the bootstraps” attitude. She could even be found working out in her yard, right up until a few weeks before her death. Even though she worked hard, she always took pride in how she looked, making sure she was properly dressed for every occasion.

Effie Dell was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, spouse, daughter Diana, and son Aaron. She is survived by her son Neil Taylor (Tracie Campbell), daughter-in-law Sue Taylor, eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends who loved her and will miss her dearly.

Please join the family for a celebration of life at 3:00 pm on Monday, May 8, 2023, at the Drury Inn & Suites, 20300 E 42 Street South, Blue Springs, MO 64015 (SE corner of I70 and Little Blue Parkway). If considering flowers, the family suggests donating to St. Joseph’s Indian School, PO Box 300, Chamberlain, SD 57325.
