Stephen Pement Obituary

Steve

Steve Pement, 66, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 3, 2023, after being hospitalized in Kansas City, Missouri for a heart condition. Steve was born July 27, 1956, in Boston, Massachusetts to Jacques (Jack) and Imogene (Jean) Pement and was the fourth of their six children.

Steve was preceded in death by his mother, 99, less than one week before his passing, and father in 1996. Steve is survived by former spouse Maria, of Germany, and their four children, Danny, who moved to Alaska, Jonathan, Christian, and Michelle.

Steve and Maria met in Germany while he was serving in the Army from 1978 to 1985 attaining the rank of Sergeant. They were married from December 28, 1979, to January 30, 2007, for 27 years, living in Heidelberg and Stuttgart. Steve graduated from Truman High School in 1974 in Independence, Missouri, where he showed a true gift of piano musical talent and enjoyed playing guitar with his brother Scott. He attended college courses in Stuttgart, Germany, took flying lessons and was a licensed pilot. Steve speaks of a plane malfunction and being saved from a crash landing when his Uncle Fred, who died in pilot training in 1945, appeared to him in the cockpit and stated, “Options!” advising him and enabling them to land safely. In all those years, Steve played keyboard, guitar, and did vocals for various bands, including Kenny’s Rebels, well known in Germany. He loved to perform and play music.

After his Army discharge in 1985, Steve continued to work in the Army Post Office as a civilian until 1991. From 1991 to 2008 Steve worked for a waste disposal company. In 2007, Steve and Maria divorced. In 2008, Steve left Germany and returned to the United States, settling in Tampa, Florida. In Tampa, Steve worked as a Security Guard, retiring in 2021. He became involved playing keyboard and singing for a church worship team.

Growing up, Steve’s father was under appointment as a missionary for the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for twenty years. The family served in various locations including Sandusky, Michigan and Sommerville, Massachusetts before Steve was born, then Lexington, Massachusetts; Binghamton, New York; Dallas, Texas, and Independence, Missouri. The family enjoyed many good memories of vacations, camps, and reunions. For a time, Steve and Maria hosted church services in their home.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, from 9-10 am at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 am with burial at Mound Grove Cemetery.
