Doris Jane Henson, a beloved and cherished woman who touched the lives of so many, passed away on August 13, 2023, in Independence, Missouri. She was born on January 20, 1924, in Decatur, IL, to her loving parents M. Gertrude (Lett) and Raymond Ehman.

Doris was an extraordinary home maker who took great pride and impeccable care of her home. Her house was always spotless and welcoming - a testament to her attention to detail and dedication. She found joy in creating a warm and inviting space for her family and friends.

One of Doris's greatest joys was always being with her family, especially during the holidays. Christmas held a special place in her heart as she embraced the spirit of love and togetherness that the season brought. Doris had a deep affection for all her family members. However, it was in being a grandmother that she truly excelled. Doris had an incredible ability to make her grandchildren feel special and loved. Her warmth, kindness, and gentle nature endeared her to each one of them. She will be forever missed but fondly remembered as the epitome of a loving grandmother.

While Doris preferred working behind the scenes rather than being in the spotlight, she had an undeniable impact on those around her. She had an unwavering commitment to service which manifested most beautifully in her interactions with children. Doris had a compassionate regard for those who had less than others.

Her unwavering patriotism shone through as she proudly celebrated her country. She cherished the freedoms and opportunities bestowed upon her, valuing them with reverence and gratitude as she celebrated those holidays honoring our country. She was indeed part of the “greatest generation.”

Doris was an outstanding seamstress, showing exceptional skill in creating beautiful garments. Her attention to detail and craftsmanship were second to none. She enjoyed watching old movies, kept up on current events and was a student of the Holy Scriptures. Music held a special place in her heart; she had an eclectic taste that encompassed various genres such as classical, big band, pop tunes and religious melodies.

As a devoted member of the RLDS Church, now known as the Community of Christ, Doris was called to the Office of Teacher within her church community. Her commitment to her faith and willingness to serve reflected her compassionate and giving nature.

Doris will be remembered dearly by her daughters, Charlotte Holbrook and husband Carl, Andrea Henson, Karla Duke and husband Darryl, RoxAnn VanFleet and husband Bill Cowden. Her memory will forever reside in the hearts of her 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, her beloved brother, John Ehman, and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 70 years, O.C. Henson, Jr., her parents, Raymond Ehman and M. Gertrude Dodd, siblings, Norma Moxley and James Ehman, and her grandson, Darren Holbrook.

Doris’s life serves as a testament to love's enduring power and selfless devotion. The memories shared with her will forever remain etched in the hearts of those she held dear, reminding us all to nurture our connections and embrace the beauty of family. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing that her love lives on in each person she touched.

Doris
