Our Missionary Elder in Pakistan

Before Christmas Ibraham, our missionary elder in Pakistan, was arrested and accused of teaching Moslems about Jesus Christ. The accusations are true and Ibraham both knew and accepted the risks when he began doing so. He had organized 8 study groups/fellowship of Moslems in 8 different cities. He is currently being held in the prison at Karachi.

His accusers, along with the police, are demanding that he sign a written pledge of apology and a binding promise to refrain from teaching Moslems, which he has done. They are also demanding payment of a fine. If these conditions are met, he will apparently be released on probation. Otherwise, he will be imprisoned for 3 years.

On December 29, I wired the money to the attorney for payment of the fine. It did not arrive at his bank until January 9, but the bank refused it on technical grounds. The money may have already been received back at my bank. If so, it will be automatically resent with the proper correction. I cannot check today because of the holiday.

Ibraham's brother was able to visit Ibraham in prison. He reported, "I was able to meet brother Ibraham today. He is in a very bad condition. Due to influence of those people police has been torturing him mentally and physically. They have plucked nails from both of his feet.”

Please remember Brother Ibraham Douglas in your prayers, that the Lord will increase his faith and steadfastness during this ordeal and also that the money will speedily reach the attorney so that the fine can be paid and Ibraham released.

Thank you.
