Brian Turner's Easter Messages - #5

Brian Turner's Easter Messages

Easter Message #5

Jesus was very pointed speaking to his followers on Thursday the 5th day of the week. They were asking him questions about tradition and he was challenging them by asking them “Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?”

In other words, he was telling them that they are blinded by the traditions of men.

Matthew 15:

7 O ye hypocrites! well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draw nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoreth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

8 But in vain do they worship me, teaching the doctrines and the commandments of men.

Acting like followers but far from being actual followers. At times, we have fallen into the various traditions of the Restoration while transgressing the Commandment(s) of God. This may cause us to feel good but the question is does it further the work of the Gospel?

Christ goes on to give a great explanation in a way that we can all understand. “10 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth the man.”

My grandmother use to tell me think before you speak…and she was right. How many times have you thought “I wish I had not said that?”

It is easy for us to be caught up in so many things that give the impression of the Holy Spirit but does not fulfill what the Holy Spirit can do within us. Hence the words of Christ in verse 7 about our mouths and hearts!

Read Matthew 15 this week and reflect on the entire message that is given. If it resonates with you think about where you were, where you are and where do you want to be?

This Easter Sunday, take a loved one or a lost one to Church!

Easter Message #6

Today is Good Friday, at least that is the name that we have given it. So much was to happen this day.

The betrayal, Christ before Pilate, Accusations and Condemnations directed to the Savior, Christ’s treatment by the soldiers and some of the people on his way to the crucifixion and then the death of the Savior.

Yes, there is more that happened but as we look at each of these, we can see the ministry of Christ manifest itself.

Let us focus on the final moments of the earthly life of Christ.

Matthew 27

54 Jesus when he had cried again with a loud voice, saying, Father, it is finished, thy will is done, yielded up the ghost.

55 And behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

56 And the graves were opened; and the bodies of the saints which slept, arose, who were many.

At that moment, we were at the verge of freedom. When the veil split top to bottom there was nothing that was hidden from us. We no longer needed an intermediary to speak for us when we approach the throne of God. Christ had fulfilled that for us – that is why I say we were freed.

Have we experienced the true freedom that this event afforded us? A freedom from many of the thoughts and actions that keep us bound and away from all of the blessings that this sacrifice has afforded us?

Remember what Christ prayed to the Father about and for us?

John 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

The freedom to be one with Christ and the Father. What greater gift could be given to us in this day and time?

This Easter Sunday, take a loved one or a lost one to Church!

ISD School Board Election

ISD School Board Election

Greetings Saints,

On Tuesday, April 2, there will be a pivotal School Board Election in the Independence School District. Some of those running have two agendas, a public agenda (which sounds good) and a more private agenda. The private agenda is one that moves down the road away from Christian beliefs. The opposition is for changes encouraging the breakdown of Biblical gender definitions.

The current board, while imperfect, is more traditional than many. There are also several strong Christians on the school board.

Please vote for the following candidates:

Carrie Dixon

Dennis Green

Eric Knipp

They will bring the most loving and Christian influence to the board and community.

The INEA is endorsing the other candidates. They will not be good for our community.

Thanks,

Concerned ISD Supporter and Saint

LIVING IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD MARCH 28, 2024

LIVING IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD MARCH 28, 2024

Greetings Dear Saints who are living in the Kingdom of God,

We are living in His Kingdom, hopefully to the best of our ability in the wild world we also live in.

As we all know, we were created and serve a very loving, patient, merciful and forgiving Heavenly Father. A gracious God who has had a plan for each of us even before the first humans received the breath of life. It is because of that knowledge we have of God that we have faith and hope and His assurance that He will always honor His promises.

Because God gave us agency, to choose Him as our Father, and we choose many times not to follow His commandments. Knowing mankind would turn away from Him, God arranged for His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ to come to the earth to pay a debt He didn’t owe, because we had a debt we couldn’t pay. The ultimate gift and sacrifice-the Creator giving His life for His creation. If you don’t think God suffered for you, read Doctrine and Covenants 18; Mosiah 1:97-106; and Luke 22:42-44 as well as the accounts of how Jesus suffered for every one of His creation in each of the four gospels.

When Jesus began His ministry, as recorded in Matthew 4, He went about preaching the gospel of the Kingdom. After he was resurrected and appeared to his followers, just prior to his ascension into Heaven, he spoke of things pertaining to the Kingdom of God, Acts 1:3. God’s plan for His Kingdom is top priority for Him and must also be for us.

We must strive with all our being, trusting completely in God to seek first to build up His Kingdom and establish His righteousness. If “our plan,” doesn’t line up with God’s plan He has made it very clear that we will not share with him in His Kingdom. Our lives are recorded in the Book of Life and God will not accept our human alibis, excuses, could have, should have, but didn’t reasoning.

God has made everything so clear in all His scriptures as to what He expects from each of us

We do not want to be a foolish virgin and have Jesus say, “YOU never knew Me.” We all are aware that the enemies of God have done everything they can to turn mankind away from God. This is very evident in the birth of Jesus Christ and His death as most of the world, even in the Center Place, put much attention on the way the world observes these life saving events. God told us in 1909 in DC 128:8 how we are to interact in the world.

We have all the instructions we need to help bring forth the Kingdom of God on earth, as it is in Heaven. It must be evident in our lives that we are living/doing His will on earth as it is in Heaven. It is His Kingdom, not ours. He has invited us and made the path clear how we can be in His Kingdom. Jesus is among many other descriptions, THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE and no man comes to the Father, but by Him.

May we, individually, take time to be holy, have His Holy Spirit dwell with us, abide in Him always, make sure he is our only delight, stay on the Old, Old Path which is made strangely sweet, by the touch divine of His Blessed feet, and forever proclaim, Oh Lord My God, How Great Thou Art.

God bless,

Paul Gage

Brian Turner Daily Easter Week Messages

Brian Turner Daily Easter Week Messages

Easter Message #1

In one of Arthur Oakman’s messages, he tells us

“Thus it was that Christ brought life and immortality to light.
It was something done from God's side. He took the initiative.
It was through the preaching of the resurrection that men
found forgiveness of sins, If the resurrection were not true,
if Christ had not risen, the preaching of the apostles was vain,
based on an untruth. All that their converts experienced in
the way of remission of sins and freedom from the guilt of sin
was an illusion if Christ were still in the tomb. This vindication
of Christ by the resurrection was and still is the pivotal point in
the process of historical revelation.”

Oakman is correct; Jesus Christ did bring light and immortality to the forefront in a time that was bound to the Mosaic Law that at times was void of the Love of God, as we understand his Love today.

This is one of the many purposes of the atonement and part of God’s plan to bring his children home to Him. Many times these significant messages are easy to miss.

Christ cleared the pathway for you and I when he rose from the grave after three days. The overall message is to not be discouraged, beaten down or deterred from coming home to the Father.

The message is to rejoice in the opportunity to come home and find that peace that you are seeking.

This Easter Sunday take a loved one or a lost one to Church!

Easter Message #2

On the Tuesday of Passion week we find that Jesus was in the midst of extreme persecution, he was being questioned by the Chief Priests and at the same time trying to prepare his followers for what was to come.

There was unbelief among the group that was following him as they had assumed that he would bring down the hosts of heaven to protect him. We can see today that while they sat under his teaching they were not able to comprehend what he was teaching even though there were many parables to support what he was telling them.

The Book of Mormon brings clarity to his earthly ministry…

Alma 18:12 Behold, he is the life and the light of the world. Behold, he is the word of truth and righteousness.

Ether 1:108 For behold, I am the Father, I am the light, and the life, and the truth of the world.

He was to be the light in a dark world. To help guide you and me during this time of probation. No matter where you are look to the eternal light that will forever shine.

Reach for this light and hold tight to it. For this light will guide you out of the darkness that you may be in and make it so that you will have clarity of vision and you will be able to see the mercy and grace that have been afforded to you though the atonement.

This Easter Sunday take a loved one or a lost one to Church!

Easter Message #3

In the middle of the week, we believe, Jesus rested. And I am sure that he needed the rest, can you imagine the continual questions not only from the High Priests but his own followers. Not to mention those that needed or wanted to be healed.

I believe that Christ rested in the middle of all of this as a way to show us that we also need to rest from the trials of the day. To take the time and step away from those things that are pressing, causing heart ache, frustration or concern.

And we are to take that time to be truly quiet. That is hard for many of us, to be quiet, so that we can hear the prompting of the Holy Spirit, the guiding words of God. So many times our quiet times are filled with thoughts of things that we want to do or things that we should do – even our prayers are pre-loaded with what we want God to focus on instead of saying “not my will but thine will be done”.

Alma gave counsel to those of us that have afflictions in our lives, I suspect that pretty much includes all of us.

Alma 16:239 And now my beloved brethren, I would exhort you to have patience, and that ye bear with all manner of afflictions; that ye do not revile against those who do cast you out because of your exceeding poverty, lest ye become sinners like unto them; but that ye have patience, and bear with those afflictions, with a firm hope that ye shall one day rest from all your afflictions.

No matter where we are in our walk with Christ we do need to learn to have patience while we bear those afflictions knowing that there will be a time of rest!

It is easy to say when one is not in the middle of your affliction but trust in the Lord for He can do all things.

Don’t go this path alone, kneel in prayer and I am confident that the Lord will send the solution to you.

This Easter Sunday take a loved one or a lost one to Church!

Easter Message #4

On this, the fifth day of Passion Week we find Christ in prayer for his Apostles! Look to John 17:1-26 for the entire prayer.

The deep expression of Love that is in these words never ceases to amaze me. This group of misfits was truly blessed by the Savior himself.

John 17:

20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one;

23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

How many of his disciples do you think really understood what was being said at the time? Few if any I suspect.

Isn’t that the way with us many times? This scripture is a perfect example of Christ praying and bestowing a blessing over us in this day and time. All we have to do is accept the prayer, faith believing.

Can you accept this? Have you? Do you realize the power that lies in the scriptures?

This Easter Sunday take a loved one or a lost one to Church!
