Dorothy was one of 9 children, born to George and Alma (Hockenson) Bilquist on May 28, 1925, in Independence, MO. In 1942, she was a graduate of Buckner High School. She continued on to college, where she received a teaching certificate from Central Missouri State Teachers College. Dorothy taught all grades in a one room school house, then went on to teach kindergarten, 2nd and 7th grades at Blue Mills Elementary School. Even though Dorothy was a teacher, she was also a woman of many other trades. On February 15, 1946, Dorothy married her sweetheart, Gordon Frederick Sevy and the pair soon adopted two children, Nancy Colleen and Mark Alan. Dorothy was a longtime member of the Buckner Restoration Branch Church, where she sang in the choir, offered her ministry of music through song and the piano, taught Sunday school and vacation bible school and was a true, and faithful servant of the Lord. She was a wonderful wife, excellent mother, an outstanding grandmother and a dear friend to many. Dorothy loved to sing and play the piano, travel to enjoy natures beauty with Gordon and friends, and spend quality time with those she loved most. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, of 73 years, both of her parents, and several siblings, Wesley, Daniel, Judith, Percy, Maude and George. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Marty) Bolyard; son, Mark (Natalie) Sevy; granddaughter, Whitney Sevy; grandson, Tyler (Amy) Sevy and great grandson, Gordon Michael Sevy; sisters, Ruth Hontz and Joyce Johnston; her oldest friend, Harriett “Sammie” Wilson; and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Dorothy was loved by everyone who knew her; she will be greatly missed. |
