April 2020 Australian Restoration News

Around and About the Centre Place by High Priest Paul J. Gage, Independence, Missouri.

April Greetings to the wonderful Saints in Australia,
As you all know, April is a very special month in the life of the church as well in the Christian world as we remember the sacrifice of God and Jesus Christ. Jesus died on the cross for the sins of those who believe on His name as we find in John 3:16-17, Mark 16:15; Alma 19:71; Helaman 3:47-48; and Doctrine and Covenants 33:1:a,b. We, of all people, should not be “lulled to sleep” thinking we are “saved” just because we belong to “the Church.” Nor that we are the only ones who can be saved. As John states, “WHOSOEVER.” Whosoever refers to any person.
April 6 is a special date. Many believe it is the day of Christ’s birth and the day of His Resurrection. In Church History, the Church was organized in 1830, an important conference was held in 1853 and a special conference in 1860 when Joseph III came to take his place as leader of the Church, all on April 6. As we find in church history Volume 1, pp. 67-68 and also Doctrine and Covenants 17 directions from God as to the organizing of the church.
Joseph Smith, Jr., wrote: “In this manner did the Lord continue to give us instructions from time to time concerning the duties which now devolved upon us; and among many other things of the kind, we obtained of him the following, by the spirit of prophecy and revelation, which not only gave us much information, but also pointed out to us the precise day upon which, according to his will and commandment, we should proceed to organize his church once again here upon the earth” (Times and Seasons, 3:928-929). Doctrine and Covenants 17:1a The rise of the church of Christ in these last days, being one thousand eight hundred and thirty years since the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the flesh, it being regularly organized and established agreeably to the laws of our country, by the will and commandments of God in the fourth month, and on the sixth day of the month which is called April; 17:1b which commandments were given to Joseph Smith, Jr., who was called of God and ordained an apostle of Jesus Christ, to be the first elder of this church; and to Oliver Cowdery, who was also called of God an apostle of Jesus Christ, to be the second elder of this church, and ordained under his hand; 17:1c and this according to the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to whom be all glory, both now and forever. Amen.
This is a good time to re-emphasize the beginnings of the church in 1830. Whether in the branches, homes, individually, or all, time should be taken to remind us of our church heritage. I realize it is not that easy when the Saints are isolated, but still, we should never be isolated from our heritage or our Lord. The Conference of Restoration Elders and Pastors of Zion scheduled events for Church Heritage Week as well as the Restoration Choir Resurrection Sunday performances along with all other group activities have been cancelled due to the corona virus. Most if not all the Restoration Branches as well as most other churches are closed because of the virus and orders from the government to curtail regular activities until the virus problem is resolved. Much fasting and prayer by the Saints can also help during these trying times.
A number of Branches, listed in the Tidings of Zion live stream services. Some will do this even though there will not be regular services. There is also a back log of services that can be watched on the live stream. Center Place Restoration School, as well as all public schools and colleges are also closed as a result of the virus problem. Time will tell if they are able to complete the school year. The month of April may become a month for great reflection and prayer, as all the scheduled retreats round the country will likely be cancelled. Hopefully the situation will be under control and we will be able to have the summer reunions and camps.

AUSTRALIAN RESTORATION NEWS

All the missionary groups are staying active with mission trips being planned by each group for those areas under their fields of ministry. Continue to pray for the missionary work around the world. Brian Herren and Andrew Smith recently completed a successful trip to India and Nepal.
Brian Mundy and Shaun Turner also recently returned from a successful trip to Kenya and East Africa. We regret that Elders Tim Rindels, Mark Smith and John Eichhorn had to cut short their mission in Australia. Pray that another mission might be possible this year.
In these troubled times, keep a strong faith and hold on to the Rod of Iron. Read the 23rd Psalm several times each day, with feeling and meditation and be reassured that THE LORD IS YOUR SHEPHERD.

Riches From The Scriptures. by Elder Neil Kerswell, Queensland, Australia Vol 4 Chapter 9 Moses Receives His Calling

Today we will be looking at the life of Moses, examining as he became aware of who God was and what his personal calling from God would be. God had a hand in the preservation of Moses life as a baby and watched over him in, keeping him safe as he grew to manhood. Although God had been heavily involved, Moses still needed to be taught much in the things of God. Jethro and his family were a fertile environment for Moses mind to open and his faith to grow.
[Exodus 3:1] Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the back side of the desert, and came to the mountain of God even to Horeb.
[Exodus 3:2] And again, the presence of the Lord appeared unto him, in a flame of fire in the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
[Exodus 3:3] And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not consumed.[Exodus 3:4] And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.
[Exodus 3:5] And he said, Draw not nigh hither; put off thy shoes from off thy feet; for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.
God used a miracle to draw Moses up to a special and holy place, no doubt even Moses choice to lead the flock to the back side of the desert bringing him to Horeb, the mountain of God was no coincidence but rather the leadings of the Holy Spirit. God set the scene and reached out to Moses in a miraculous way preparing him for the great task to come.
[Exodus 3:6] Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
[Exodus 3:7] And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; [Exodus 3:8] And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
[Exodus 3:9] Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me; and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.
[Exodus 3:10] Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
God explained clearly who he was and the relationship he had with Moses father, and all the Fathers before him in the family line. Think about it, this is a God who is personally interested in Moses and his people who were now in captivity, not only that, he has preserved Moses family line throughout history. Moses was afraid and hid his face which is understandable when the understanding of just how great God is was dawning upon his mind expanding his potential, while giving him true perspective. We all need to be humbled like this and to love and respect the Lord our God.
[Exodus 3:11] And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
[Exodus 3:12] And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee; When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
God assured Moses he would be with him and gave him a prophetic promise that when he had fulfilled the task he would come back to God’s Holy mountain and serve Him there. God was helping Moses know, he wouldn’t be alone and with God’s help success was assured.
[Exodus 3:13] And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?[Exodus 3:14] And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM; and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
[Exodus 3:15] And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you; this is my name forever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.
Moses knew the condition of God’s people after many years of slavery and hardship, and although some would have held on to their faith and prayed to God throughout the years, for some He had become a distant memory, something of the past. The first thing God wanted His people to know is that He is (I AM hath sent me unto you) and like Moses initial experience, that God has very real ties back into their family lines to times when the people were more faithful and obedient and wanted to know Him.
[Exodus 3:16] Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt; [Exodus 3:17] And I have said I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, unto a land flowing with milk and honey.
[Exodus 3:18] And they shall hearken to thy voice; and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, The Lord God of the Hebrews hath met with us; and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.
God intended to include the leaders of His people, Moses wasn’t asked to act without their knowledge but rather to include them in the process, helping them to know that the God who loved their forefathers was now looking after them personally and not only that, He offered them a place in this great work (And they shall hearken to thy voice; and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt). They would have personal investment and ownership throughout the experience from the start, which is what was needed to be successful in such a large scale, long term common goal.
[Exodus 3:19] And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand.
[Exodus 3:20] And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof; and after that he will let you go.
[Exodus 3:21] And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty; [Exodus 3:22] But every woman shall borrow of her neighbor, and of her that sojourneth in her house; jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment; and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your
daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.
God made sure Moses knew this was not going to be a quick, easy process. The King of Egypt would be a tough nut to crack, therefore God would have to show many wonders which would end in Israel being set free.
[Exodus 4:1] And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice; for they will say, The Lord hath not appeared unto thee.
[Exodus 4:2] And the Lord said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.
[Exodus 4:3] And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.
[Exodus 4:4] And the Lord said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand; [Exodus 4:5] That they may believe that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.
Moses was still struggling with the human side of meeting with a people that he was once a prince of Egypt over, would they believe Him? God backed and strengthened Moses further. Moses then saw for himself the power of God, through his own hands and involvement. Taking his Rod and turning it into a serpent, then by taking it by the tail became his rod again. What a learning curve for Moses, whatever his weakness God could strengthen it. Our weaknesses become our greatest strengths as we overcome them with God’s help.[Exodus 4:6] And the Lord said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom; and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow.
[Exodus 4:7] And he said, Put thy hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.
[Exodus 4:8] And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.
[Exodus 4:9] And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land; and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.
God certainly didn’t leave Moses without witness and this in turn would be a witness unto the children of Israel that God was indeed with Moses and had spoken unto him and given him commandment concerning them. Therefore they could trust that God would perform His wonders when needed before the Egyptians.
[Exodus 4:10] And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant; but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
[Exodus 4:11] And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord?
[Exodus 4:12] Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.
[Exodus 4:13] And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.
[Exodus 4:14] And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee; and when he
seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.
[Exodus 4:15] And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth; and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.
[Exodus 4:16] And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people; and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.
[Exodus 4:17] And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.
Like us, Moses was nervous and with some self-examination remembered he had a speech problem and made an excuse even after all God’s efforts to inspire him to action and assure him of God’s help, commitment and almighty power. God was angry at Moses for not fully grasping what was on offer if he was obedient. Then God offered the help of Aaron who was good at speaking to assist, notice God had already prompted Aaron to look for Moses, everything falling into place. God’s wisdom surpasses understanding.
[Exodus 4:18] And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.
[Exodus 4:19] And the Lord said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt; for all the men are dead which sought thy life.
In this life timing is everything and with God’s blessings the deliverance of Israel was now possible. People who would have otherwise caused problems were now dead, making the way open to start asking to be set free.
[Exodus 4:20] And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt; and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.
[Exodus 4:21] And the Lord said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand, and I will prosper thee; but Pharaoh will harden his heart, and he will not let the people go.
We see here that Moses had an understanding and had seen through God’s eyes the wonders to be performed before they came to pass in Egypt. Moses also now knew these miracles would only serve to begin the process of being free. But would not soften Pharaohs heart.
[Exodus 4:22] And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord, Israel is my son, even my firstborn;[Exodus 4:23] And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me; and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.
We know that this last instruction given to Moses would play a big part in their being set free. I hope as we have read this together that you have seen, just how much support and involvement God had in the lives of Moses, Jethro, Zipporah, Aaron, the Elders of Israel, the children of Israel and the Egyptians, to be able to achieve such an awesome accomplishment and miracle in the eyes of all the people. It truly was a marvelous work and a wonder, it was also a team effort, God made use of all available personnel and resources. This just seems to be the way of God, he wants us to be the family of God working together with a common goal and purpose.
Those who have different gifts to me will have seen many other things to be highlighted in what we have read and that’s what ministry is all about. I hope this has been your experience being edified through the Holy Spirit. This is my prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
The Australian Visit by Elders Tom Rindels & Mark Smith shortened by Coronavirus Outbreak.
Submitted by Elder Ton Rindels, Home at the Centre Place.
To the saints in Australia, my sincere thanks to the saints that Mark and I were able to visit, and my sincere apologies and the sadness of my heart to those we didn’t. Mark and I were welcomed in the homes of Brother Max and Sister Patty Fulton and John and Racheal Todd after landing in Townsville on March 6th.
We were able to share a wonderful spirit in both homes. We had a beautiful sacrament service on Sunday 8th There were 9 of us in attendance and we visited more on the 9th, departing Tuesday morning and headed towards Brisbane, arriving there mid afternoon on the 11th Wed. We had fellowship with the saints and presided over in 2 sharing services on Wednesday and Thursday evening, again a wonderful Spirit prevailed.
Friday morning we departed for Tamworth, arriving there mid afternoon at Peter and Helen Archer’s home and Br. Roy Schubert took us to return our rental car. Mark and I stayed at Peter’s and Saturday we were able to share with dear Br. Bob Wilkinson in the morning and Roy and Sr Daphne’s in the afternoon, culminating with Roy and Daphne taking me to my favorite fish and chips place. We had a beautiful service Sunday morning with 8 of us in attendance. Helen prepared a wonderful lunch for us. We then departed towards Medowie, arriving there late afternoon. Sr. Mandy Fry was there, we thought it would be the only chance we’d have to see her as she was planning on leaving on a holiday. David and Melissa Game were wonderful as ever; Melissa prepared a wonderful meal, we thoroughly enjoyed their two new house guests, Nickolas and Stella, whom David and Melissa have taken responsibility for. They will all be in my prayers. So good to see Lauren and Micah. we followed Mandy home, spending the night there and departing the next morning for Euroa. All this time having great concern for the uncertainty being demonstrated over the concern and apprehension being displayed over the virus. Arrived at Murray and Delma Broughton’s mid afternoon, Delma fixed us a wonderful meal , we were able to share but we were worried about the health issues , so
Mark and I headed out towards Broadsmore to visit Br. Nathan Fulton. On Tuesday morning we had a truly fantastic visit with Nathan and Carly and their two wonderful daughters. After a visit there we headed towards Adelaide, arriving Wednesday the 18th. By now we were certain that Elder Eichhorn was not going to be able to join me on the 23rd due to the virus crises, and I needed to make a heart rendering decision as to my future plans, praying and deciding that I should return home for now , it was truly an agonizing decision we were able to spend time with Kerri , Gina , Monique, Seth, and Jacob and had a beautiful
sacrament service Sunday morning. Gina fixed lunch then with Monique took us to the Adelaide airport where we started our very interesting trip home , an adventure in itself to be shared later. To the saints we didn’t get to visit, my deepest and sincere apology. My promise, God willing I will be back. Please stay in touch with each other, the world’s In turmoil Satan knows his time is quickly drawing to an end, you need each other physically and spiritually, prepare for that glorious day when we’ll not be separated by thousands of miles, but together in that beautiful city of Zion. God bless you all till we meet again.
Your Brother in Christ, Tom Rindels.

South Australian News submitted by Sr. Monique Hummel

We have had a most wonderful, but brief visit, with the American visiting Priesthood, Brothers Tom Rindell and Mark Smith. They arrived with us in South Australia on Wednesday the 18th March around lunchtime and were very quickly out to sea with my Dad, Kerri Krieg on his boat taking them crabbing. After a few hours they returned with a feed of crabs for dinner. My sons Jacob, Seth and I were able to visit with them around school and work while they spent time with my Mum, Sister Gina Krieg, visiting and sight seeing.
Dad took them tuna fishing on Saturday and all had a good time returning with a catch of huge tuna. On Sunday March 22 we had a Worship Service with Communion and enjoyed fellowship afterward before having to let Brothers Tom and Mark go, having need to return to America due to the COVID19 and border closures. We were so grateful to have the Priesthood visit with us and hope that we may one day travel to America to visit the Saints there.

CRE Statement of Encouragement to the Saints

I am including this email from the leadership of the Conference of Restoration Elders, because it is sound advice for us as the world faces a tremendous task in trying to eradicate the pandemic Coronavirus that is taking so many lives and seriously effecting our way of life.
Dear Brothers and Sisters, As part of the leadership of the Conference of Restoration Elders, recognizing and not representing ourselves as the voice, but only as a voice within the restoration branch movement, we offer the following words of encouragement and guidance.
In this time of unusual circumstances, more than ever, we need to continue to place our trust and hope in God. None of what is occurring in the world is a surprise to him. Now is not the time to succumb to fear and despair. As we and our families consider ways to worship our Lord, and respond to the Coronavirus in our homes and communities, let’s remember that God is in charge of all things. Some are wondering what to do in our current situation. The following are simple reminders of what our response should be:· Stay close to the Lord – Pray and fast for one another. Philippians 4:4-7 “Rejoice in the Lord always; and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be afflicted for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”·
Do not succumb to fear, or panic – trust God.
I John 4:18 “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear; because fear hath torment.
He that feareth is not made perfect in love”.
DC 38:4c “Therefore, be ye strong from henceforth; fear not for the kingdom is yours: and for your salvation I give unto you a commandment, for I have heard your prayers”.·
Find safe ways to reach out and stay in touch with each other – particularly those who live alone.·
Offer support, in sensible ways, to those who are in need.
On a personal note, the love of God is all around us. He has created you out of His love for you, He sustains you with every breath you take, and He sent His Only Begotten Son to create a path for you to return to Him. What more do we need to know? The God of the universe has declared you are the most important thing to Him. You are His work and His glory. Be assured He hears your prayers. He has blessed you in times past, He will bless you through this current situation and He has in store blessings for what is to come. Once again, He calls to you – His disciple – “follow me”. Together let us walk the walk of faith. May God be with each of you and your families in these portentous times.
Vim Horn, Chairman of the Conference Richard Neill, Chairman of the Coordinating Council

CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST RESTORATION BRANCH, KINGSTON

17-19 Juers Street, Kingston, Queensland. Pastor: Elder Alma Kerswell. Phone 07 3800 1151
Branch Temporary Closure. In response to the government decree that all Churches close and remain closed for services till advised otherwise, there will be no services held at the Kingston Branch until otherwise advised.
This is very sad news indeed and with the great amount of restrictions placed upon us including isolation in our own homes, allowance of maximum of 2 in groups, closure of a great number of businesses and shops and some items of food and other home needs (including toilet paper) quickly disappearing off the shelves in food stores to mention but a few. We are facing a bleak future till this virus is overcome. We are most blessed to have our faith and belief in God and to know that he is in control.

The catch phrase I am constantly hearing is “We are all in this together”, the key word to me being together.
Although separated, we can still keep in touch with each other by telephone, internet or by other forms of media. People who live on their own are particularly vulnerable. Why not make it a project to each day phone someone different and have a talk and check how they are; or have a prayer & share session on the phone.
Priesthood aught not to feel that they are off duty because there are no services. They are the Shepherds of the Flock and as such need to be checking on their charges. If any saints are low in spirit, unwell and would be helped by a prayer over the phone or in need of counsel, do not hesitate to phone one of the ministry to help meet your need.
There is advice given in this newsletter as to how to utilize our time in prayer, study, etc. to keep our faith strong. We are supplying a couple of listings that you can bring up on your computers (if you have one) and enjoy recorded services Elder Mark Churchill kindly supplied this link;
