Dr. James Wayne Prine Obituary

Dr. James Wayne Prine, age 81, of Independence, Missouri passed away May 11, 2023 after suffering a heart attack.

JIm

Jim was born December 15, 1941, in Independence, Missouri, the son of Delmar and Charlotte (Wight) Prine.

He attended Bryant Elementary School and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1960. He attended Graceland College and went on to graduate from Cleveland Chiropractic College in 1967 as a Doctor of Chiropractic. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.

Jim had a tender and generous servant’s heart from an early age. He had a soft spot for dogs, cats, and horses. He and his brother also shared a lifelong love of cars. But above everything, he loved his Savior and all people. He was kind, extroverted and conversational. He was beyond generous to anyone in need and cared for the homeless and hurting. He had a passion for God’s Word, even as a child, and studied diligently and lived out his faith.

He was the devoted father of four children, that he happily sacrificed for and treasured as they grew to adulthood. He tried to be there for their diverse needs and encouraged and helped them each to find their way.

In 1967 he opened his first Chiropractic office at River and Truman Road in Independence, and later moved to a much larger clinic at 1008 N Main. There, he ran a very successful, busy practice helping many people, not only physical, but emotionally and spiritually as well. He is still loved and revered by many patients after over 30 years in practice. He retired from practice in 1998 and moved to Oklahoma for several years to attend Bible College before returning to Missouri to marry the love of his life, Barbara Smith in October 2012.

They blended his four children and 7 grandchildren with her 3 children and grandson. In their 10 ½ years together Jim added a grandson and Barb added 2 more grandchildren.

Barb shared his values and his passion for following Christ. Together they served tirelessly on behalf of the homeless and needy. They supported Outreach International and Community Services League, among other programs.

Jim and Barb loved working out together at the gym and taking long walks. They also enjoyed gardening and rummaging through thrift stores. Jim was a great handyman and could remodel, repair, and even do body work on cars. Many skills were gained as his dad’s helper in Prine Plumbing in his youth.

Jim is survived by his wife Barbara, his sons; Kevin Prine and wife Felice, Sebastian Penraeth, and Jeff Prine and wife Kaori Natto Daisuki, and his daughter Lisa Bullard and husband James. He also leaves stepsons Jayson Gray and wife Meghan, Ryan Gray and wife Abbey, and stepdaughter Kalee Schooley and husband Ryan. Together Barb and Jim have 11 grandchildren and one grandson-in-law; Ashden Prine, Avery Prine, Tabitha Prine, Ryu Prine, Charlotte Bullard Pierre and husband Donald, Phoebe Bullard, Adeline Bullard and A.J. Bullard, Andrew Gray, Ava Schooley and Mason Schooley.
He is also survived by his “sibs” as they are called; Richard Prine and wife Lynn, Joann Stokes and husband Kerry, and Jewell Glauner and husband David. The sibs gathered often, took trips together and celebrated their lives with prayer and also with laughter and stories of their childhood. Jim will also be missed by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends who loved and cherished him.

Barb and the family wish to give special, heartfelt gratitude to the amazing ICU staff at Centerpoint Medical Center. They made all the difference as we navigated those difficult days.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Delmar and Charlotte Prine.

A memorial service will be held June 11, 2023 at 2:00 at Beacon Heights Church, 19402 E Holke Road, Independence, Missouri 64057

The family suggests contributions in Jim’s name to Outreach International, Community Services League or Life Outreach.
