Moureen

From:  Penny Curtis

Moureen

Dear Friends,

As I mentioned in an earlier email, GBHI has recently taken in an additional 12 children to the Youth Home.
Over the next few weeks I will send you the pictures and Bio's of these children.  We now have 40 children total and 8 staff members.  Every story I send will tug at your heart.  It is almost unimaginable what these children have endured in their short lives.
Although the children are new faces to the orphanage, their stories are not unique to the other ones that we have rescued.  I joy however, to share the difference hope can make in a life so traumatized by death and poverty.

Today, I will share about Moureen.
Kefa told me that Moureen had a heart condition and was very sickly.   Every child we bring in first has a medical exam.  Her medical exam revealed that she indeed had a weak heart.
I wondered if she was just under nourished.  I was sure that good food and love would bring life back into her.
I am sending pictures and I would like you to judge for yourself if this is not true! (The first picture is when she was admitted to the home.  Picture #2 is after 2 weeks of good food, love and a new backpack for school!)

The following is a written bio from the director at the Youth Home.

Moureen was born on 25 July in 2012.

Her aunt says that she first lost her father in the year 2016 and the cause of his death was HIV/AIDS. What happened is that her mother contracted HIV from her father and after he passed away her mother got married to another man.

The man she married was working in South Africa and was providing everything for the family. The only mistake she made was not telling the new husband that she was HIV positive. After some time, the husband returned from South Africa upon hearing that Moureen's mother was pregnant. When they went to the hospital the doctor diagnosed them with HIV/AIDS. The husband got mad because of the results because he was never HIV positive before he married Moureen's mother. She revealed the truth to the husband that she was responsible for the HIV he was diagnosed with. This news made the husband very furious and he started beating the wife in the hospital, but fortunately the fight was stopped by the doctors. This incident called for a divorce, After they both left the hospital accompanied by police the man packed all his belongings including all the things he had been sending when he was in South Africa. They started suffering from poverty and Moureen stopped going to school due to lack of clothes and food. In the same year Moureen's mother passed away while giving birth and she died in the year 2019.

After her mother's death she was consigned to her aunt for nurture. Her Aunt could not care for Moureen with food, clothing or school.  She found out about the Hope Restoration Youth Home and knew it was the only way that Moureen would have any certainty of hope.  Moureen is in grade 3 currently, your continuous support for her will bring a change into her life.

God Bless you all as you pray for our little sister Moureen.
