Spiritually Won Knowledge Part 9
Moroni brings a powerful message in the 21st chapter of Alma. One that should bring guidance to us this day.
41 And it came to pass that he rent his coat, And he took a piece thereof and wrote upon it - "In memory of our God, our religion and freedom and our peace, our wives and our children" - And he fastened it upon the end of a pole thereof;
Notice the order of priorities, he understood that if he put God first all things will follow…what would our list look like if we were in that same situation? Let’s look a little further into the story.
43 And he bowed himself to the earth, And he prayed mightily unto his God for the blessings of liberty to rest upon his brethren, so long as there should a band of Christians remain to possess the land –
Today as with everyday this is the prayer that we should be offering up – notice that he prayed for his brethren…not himself. We need to make the effort and make sure that our brothers and sisters are blessed.
45 Yea, all those who were true believers in Christ took upon them gladly the name of Christ, or Christians, as they were called, because of their belief in Christ, which should come - And therefore, at this time, Moroni prayed that the cause of the Christians and the freedom of the land might be favored.
And again another part of the prayer that we should be offering…I am not sure what other conditions need to exist in our world before we learn what Moroni is teaching us here.
50 And it came to pass that when Moroni had proclaimed these words, Behold, the people came running together with their armors girded about their loins, rending their garments in token, or as a covenant, that they would not forsake the Lord their God –
And as we read this step back and think of it spiritually. First they came running together to prepare for the fight that was about to take place. Embracing a covenant that we would not forsake our Lord. There are many fights that we should be running together towards this day and time. Remember there are many battles in a war and the more battles that you win the more likely you are to win the war!
Where else have we read about armor and how properly worn protects us from the very fiery darts that are being hurled at us today.
Make no mistake, you may not see or even feel them but they are being thrown at you daily and weakening us a little at a time. Many do not have their armor properly fitted – if there are large of gaps in any of the pieces you are vulnerable. Think of the gaps as a lack of knowledge of the scriptures, doubts, judgements or even faith in the very promises that Christ died for.
If we were to pray as Moroni prayed for our brethren what would happen? Paul gives us insight in 1 Corinthians 2:12-16
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
If Paul is right, and I think that he is, we have the mind of Christ which means that we have the mind (knowledge) to understand how to approach the Lord and ask him for a clarity of vision in all that is happening and all that we should be doing.
Many times we are so sure of our direction and thoughts because of a “good feeling” that we do put blinders on and are not able to see the “signs” that are all around us.
When Earl Curry was petitioning the Lord while at the Temple in Kirtland this insight was given to him “The working out, the achieving of the high purposes for life which are dear to the heart of Him who is the Eternal Father, in the finest and deepest meanings of that name, require extraordinary men and women in the body of the church are also required. Ordinary men could not be trusted with the great powers that shall arise out of the endowment because of their narrow self-centeredness that is so much a part of ordinary life. These great powers can only be delegated or placed upon His servants and His people as they are extraordinarily purified in body, mind, spirit, and purpose.”
What is the high purpose of your life? The answer is given in 1 Corinthians 12:8, check it out and see where you fit. Once you find where you fit the challenge is to get in the game!
Everyday that passes we are that much closer….closer to the election, closer to the end of life, closer to the end of time, closer to seeing Christ. Are you ready?
