Stand on Sexual Morality
Dear Saints,
I have received information that finally a group of priesthood men have chosen to take a stand and communicate to the saints -living in this corrupt world - that there are principles of truth regarding the evils of transgenderism, homosexuality, and abortion. (See below)
So far, out of all the Restoration Branches, as far as I know, not one has taken any formal position on these matters even when prompted by their members —other than this one group.
The Remnant church addressed it about 15 years ago but did not address transgenderism as that was not an issue at that time. They are the only ones I know of.
If any of you know of any priesthood groups in any part of the church, whether in any branch or a group of branches, a conference, etc who have taken a stand together for righteousness and truth with the desire to guide our people and especially the youth away from these evil ideologies that surround them daily, please let me know. So far, all have failed to address it. And we are losing our youth to the world.
Here is the statement adopted.
“2023-16: Statement of Belief - Moral Clarifications
(Submitted by Gary Metzger – Presented by Jim Noland)
Whereas: the rise of evolution, secularism, and more recently, the sexual revolution, has severely undermined the teachings of Jesus Christ, deceiving believers and nonbelievers alike, and causing them to sin; and
Whereas: our world has seen a rise of immorality and widespread defiling of the marriage covenant;
Therefore, Be it resolved:
1) We believe that God created all persons, either male or female, and that
gender cannot be changed.
2) We believe that marriage, as designed by God in the beginning, is a covenant between a man and a woman, and is binding only on earth and not for eternity. The practices of polygamy, celestial marriage and same-sex marriage are opposed to God’s plan for marriage.
We also believe that the practice of abstinence outside of marriage is the law of God. (See Hebrews 13:4; Jacob 2:33,36; Matthew19:3-6; and Luke 20:34-36)
3) We believe in the sanctity of life and that human life is created at the point of conception. To willfully take the life of an unborn child is a transgress of God’s law by the shedding of innocent blood. (See Prov. 6:16-17, Psalms 106:37-38, Isa 59:7, Alma 19:5-7)
Adopted by the First Quorum of Seventy, April, 2023.”
