Darrell Lewis Langer, 67, of Independence, MO passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, in Overland Park , KS. He was born on February 29, 1956, in Ohio to Michael and Ruth Langer. Darrell was a machinist most of his life and had a passion for the work he did. He accomplished a lot in his over 42 years in the business. Darrell even had a machine shop in his own garage to work on projects outside of the workplace. He lived in Arizona during his younger years and graduated from high school there. After high school he moved to Independence. In his younger years Darrell loved to go dirt bike racing, ride dune buggies, and go hiking. To this day he owned an ATV that he loved to ride with his grandchildren. One thing Darrell really loved in life was being a grandfather, his grandsons brought him great joy and pride. He loved animals, especially his German Shepherd Carly, he would often be found down by 3 Trails Brewing walking and people watching with Carly by his side. Darrell was a deacon in the RLDS church and was proud of the work he got to be a part of through the church. He was an all-around handyman, great at fixing anything (even dinner), Darrell was a wonderful cook. Darrell loved going to the movies.
Darrell is survived by his wife Trudy Gipson-Langer, son William Cody Greer (Audrey), daughters Alisha Gipson, and Julie Weakley, and three grandsons Jackson Weakley, Cameron Cowens, and Elliott Greer. He was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Ruth Langer, and his sister Kathy Langer.
A visitation for Darrell will take place on Monday February 5, 2024, at Speaks Suburban Chapel (18020 E 39th St. S. Independence, MO 64055) from 10:00- 10:30 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 10:30 a.m.
