Carol Norris Vincent
July 29, 1938 — June 22, 2024

Carol Norris Vincent passed away peacefully at Rosewood Health and Rehabilitation in Independence on Saturday, June 22, 2024. She has gone home to the Lord, ready to be greeted by friends, family, and loved ones who have gone before.

Carol was born July 29, 1938, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Claude V. and Dorothy Nunemaker Norris.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband William Vincent; a son, Thomas Waddell who died in infancy, and step-son, Dean Vincent.

Carol is survived by her children, Larry (Vera Solano) Waddell of Grand Marais, Minnesota; Michael Waddell, Bloomington, Indiana; Ramona Decorah (Jerry Hekker) of Traverse City, Michigan; and step-daughter Susan Vincent VanDyke of Indianapolis, Indiana. Carol is also survived by her dear siblings, Linda (David) Kohlman, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Larry (Sharon) Norris, Blue Springs, Missouri; Marjorie Darling, Oak Grove, Missouri; and James (Diane) Norris, Lee’s Summit, Missouri. She is also survived by five grandchildren and five step-grandchilden.

Carol was married to Jack O. Waddell (d.) from 1959 until 1986. She was married to William Vincent in 1992 until his death in 2004. She is survived by her dear friend/companion during her final years, Rey Yzquierdo.

Carol graduated from Lawrence High School (Kansas) in 1956 and received an Associate Of Arts degree from Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, in 1958.

Carol was the Assistant Director of the Tippecanoe County Historical Association (Lafayette, Indiana) from 1972-1988. She was the Director of Development at the Indianapolis Zoo from 1988 until her retirement in 1995 when she moved to Sun City Center, Florida, before returning to her childhood home town of Independence in 2004 after the passing of her second husband.

Carol served in a number or other capacities throughout her life: as a board member of the Lafayette Environmental Action Federation (1972-1976); Vice President, Midwest Museums Conference (1990-1993); President, Association of Indiana Museums (1990-1993); management consultant for the Association of Indiana Museums (1995-1997); founder and coordinator of the Post-Polio Syndrome Support Group of Southern Hillsborough County (2001-2004); as a Stephen Minister (2001-2004); and as an Elder in the Community Of Christ.

Over her years as a professional and volunteer, Carol received numerous awards and certifications. She made several presentations at seminars and workshops about fundraising, museum administration, and publication. She served as a discussion leader in both Florida and Missouri for Christian education classes, and over the years was a prolific writer of historical and museum management publications as well as an avid writer and researcher of comprehensive family histories.

A small private family memorial service will be held in Independence. It is requested that there are no flowers, but cards and letters of remembrance may be mailed to: Carol Vincent Family, 4012 W. Chapman Dr., Blue Springs, MO 64015.
