IIAW Meeting Notes and Volunteer Opportunities
Hello, Initiative and Unity Center Friends,
Volunteer Reminder: December 25, Meal Prep for Beloveds, 8-10am, Unity Center, 803 W. 23rd Street
Important information from the December 7th IIAW meeting:
The IIAW has completed three years of collaborative community service. In spite of the current poor state of the national economy, the pandemic, and civil unrest, the IIAW remains encouraged and hopeful because we feel the presence of God in this work in the community. We sense the privilege it is to be a part of bringing down the Kingdom to earth. It is an answer to decades of prayer to see this day come. We have known Kingdom building would be a battle, and it looks and feels quite different than how we thought the Kingdom would come. It is quite unique to see people of all faiths combining forces, laying aside doctrinal differences, and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide and provide in miraculous ways. We are truly blessed to see and live in these days, as hard as they are to daily navigate. There is an awareness that we each are here at this time by Divine Design, for a specific purpose. We are part of an enormous and divinely crafted plan of God, and we all play a part in that plan. May we wake up each morning rejoicing for the day of our long awaited Kingdom is coming at last. Surely, the hosts of Heaven are rejoicing with us! May we keep our eyes upon Jesus, connect with the Holy Spirit in all we do, engage in the work He gives us to do, align ourselves to comrades, praise God, and stay the course. Muriel Luedeman
From Dennis Cato:
End of the year evaluation of where we are in the work we have committed ourselves to. Current conditions of Independence: 40% of housing is rentals. We do not have a strong base of businesses to support our government and city services compared to other K.C communities. This is not good for city stability. We are losing our town if things don't change. It is important to elect city officials with values that are compatible with Kingdom building efforts of the IIAW and other ministries.
From Billy Tharp:
When asked what the IIAW and the Unity Center needs - PRAISE and PRAYER. It is through praise and prayer that everything comes down from heaven to bless the Kingdom building effort on earth. Hearts are stirred by the Holy Spirit to move in behalf of the Kingdom work in very specific ways. This is the way everything has been accomplished thus far in the IIAW and the Unity Center. The next Unity Center project is to add plumbing for installing a bathroom/shower/ laundry room in the sanctuary area for use for Beloveds. God's Love Ministries recently purchased the Noland Elementary School at 515 S. Liberty to create a vocational training facility for vetted Beloveds. Please pray for the vision, wisdom, and cooperation of the neighbors in that area.
Unity Center Renovation: The new windows have been trimmed, and finished, on the inside, and blinds installed in the Jesus Store and medical clinic rooms.
From Muriel Luedeman:
Neighborhood Transformation is moving to a new level with the establishment of the first Neighborhood Transformation Team by Chrys Sevic in the Three Trails area at 25th Street and S. Crysler Avenue. Chrys established relations with Trinity Presbyterian Church on Sheley Road. Trinity is hosting her Three Trails Neighborhood Team meetings. S. Crysler is a growing area of passionate neighbors wanting to create community in their neighborhoods. Penny and Mark Browning at 37th and S. Crysler. Also, residents in Ramsgate at 38th and Crysler are interested in Neighborhood Transformation strategies. The number of people engaged in community transformation is critical. WE ARE the city and if Independence is to be restored, it is up to all of her citizens pulling together to accomplish it. The IIAW has made a good start and it is encouraging to see this growth in movement. We are better together than we are alone.
Neighborhood Organization Vision/Strategy: Neighborhoods, block by block establishing Neighborhood Care Groups. Three neighbors in a block spearhead organizing and caring for 15 - 20 homes. 1. Regularly prayer walk neighborhood to bless and identify needs. 2. Create an email list and directory of names and address hand out for neighbors 3. Establish monthly trash patrol. 4. Identify widows and shut-ins. 5. Identify families with young children to provide support and life skills education.
From Ron Kroeger, rjkroeger@gmail.com:
Simple way to establish ID for Beloveds or anyone in need. A notary can facilitate IDs by having the person needing an ID bring two people who know him/her and will vouch for their name and identity. In a court of law two witnesses are required to establish the identity of a person. A notary can easily take care of action. Please save this valuable instruction to pass along to anyone who doesn't have an ID.
From Ryan Anderson, ryanscottanderson1@gmail.com:
As connection is made with Beloveds daily, progress is being made in working to help them get IDs, life skills, and employment. AMPRAY is a locally owned solar panel company who is focused on training Beloveds in all facets of the business, from design, manufacture, marketing, and installation. The company is operational now and growing.
Six visitors attended a Talk and Tour of the Unity Center by Billy Tharp, and stayed for the following meeting.
God's rich blessings to you all as we remember the reason for this Holy Season, the greatest gift to mankind. Jesus Christ!
