Mom was a seamstress, making all of our clothes and sewing for other people as well. She was a seamstress, sewing everything from simple to formal clothing and alterations. She made all of our 4-H calf blankets. She was a cake decorator from the simple cakes to elaborate wedding cakes. She decorated a special cake for each of us on every birthday. She was always taking outside jobs until her eyes weren't able to do the work. She was a 4-H leader for over 10 years, establishing one of the largest boys and girls 4-H clubs in Lancaster County, Lincoln, NE, allowing the youth to choose the projects they wanted to develop life skills. Our 4-H club went all the way to state in the song contest. Miming the song "I've Got a Guy and His Name is Dooley", which we set to a 4-H theme. Mom designed our outfits and made our vests with fluorescent four leaf clovers. We had white hats and gloves and performed under black lights. It was the highlight of our 4-H years. It was a whole club project. She was Dad's secretary in his business including bookkeeping, payroll, and accounting. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years and a womens leader in the church. She took a course in food management and worked at the Bellevue School for lunches. She worked at Bellevue University in the mail room as a clerk. She retired from the Bellevue University at age 91, having served there for 26 years. Mom was a giver, always striving to please others, putting others needs before her own. She was always proper and appropriate. She was an inspiring and creative designer. Whatever job was hers to do she took it seriously and made it her best work. She taught us life skills, good work ethics, she gave us chores to teach us responsibility. She taught us to love and have respect. Your Brother in Christ, Mark McCormick |
