IIAW News and Upcoming Volunteer Events
Hello, IIAW and Unity Center Friends,
Upcoming Events:
Tuesday, October 25, IIAW Monthly Meeting, 6:30pm, Unity Center, 803 W. 23rd Street.
Agenda: Committee updates, Unity Center renovation progress. Team Jesus has been active in the city and on the road. We hope to have a report on their progress. Scott Stoner of Hands and Feet of Jesus will give an update, as well as Ryan Anderson and career guide efforts with the Beloveds. He has been working on a new flyer for the Initiative to generate support from more churches and individuals. More promotional ideas for the Initiative are coming.
After 9 years of service, Dennis Cato is stepping down as LDS Independence Stake President. This is good news for the IIAW. We are at a point of expanding our efforts and Brother Dennis will have more time to devote to the Initiative's vision and goals, connecting us with more church ministries and individuals. It was four years ago this December 6th, that he gathered 22 people from 8 ministries together to talk about improving the quality of life in Independence through loving our neighbors. Today we have over 300 on our email list, representing dozens of minstries. We have learned so much good about ourselves and come a long way. God has blessed us with unity of heart and mind and Kingdom worthy work projects to solidify that unity. The future looks bright with working on new problem solving adventures together. We don't quite know where and how the Holy Spirit will lead us, but we KNOW it will be good and glorious.
Saturday, November 5, Neighborhood Clean Up, 10am, Hill Park, 10200 E. 23rd Street.
Because our LDS volunteers have a conference November 12th, our Neighborhood Clean Up is moved up to November 5th. We will be supporting the Independence Sustainability Commission and the Missouri Waterways Team, picking up trash along creeks, rivers, and lakes. Weather permitting, the location we will work is Hill Park at Maywood and 23rd Street. Start time is 10am. Bags will be provided. Bring grabbers, gloves; wear warm clothes and sturdy shoes.
