Jean Pement 99 of Independence, Missouri passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at The Groves Retirement Community. Jean was born December 19th, 1923 in Independence, Missouri, to Charles and Martha Ann Petentler and was the youngest of their six children. Mrs. Pement was preceded in death by her husband Jacques 'Jack' Pement and all of her brothers and sisters. She and her husband Jack served as appointee ministers in The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Community of Christ). As a young woman Jean was a member of Englewood and Stone Church Congregations. Prior to moving to The Groves, she was a member of Ridgewood Congregation (now known as Good Shepherd) and these were in addition to the many in which she participated from Michigan to New England, to Texas and back again. In all these places she willingly accepted the role of the appointee's wife to witness and serve in the work of the church, along with her primary role as devoted mother, teacher and mentor to her six children. She was well known for her dramatic readings and performances, and after her children were grown she graduated Summa Cum Laude from UMKC with a Master of Arts Degree in Theatre and went on to teach English, Speech and Drama at high schools in Missouri and Illinois. Jean is survived by her six children and their spouses: Fred (Becky), Michael, Scott (Becki), Stephen, Colette (Dan), Paul, and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 14th from 9-10am at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Mo. Funeral service will begin at 10am with burial to follow at Mound Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Outreach International. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.speakschapel.com.
