Doris Mae Pugh - Obituary On September 26, 2023, Doris Mae Pugh, of Sugar Creek, Missouri, peacefully passed away at The Villages of Jackson Creek Memory Care. Doris was born Oct. 11, 1924 to Minnie Amela (Leverton) and Alvin Levi Phelps in Independence, Missouri. Doris was preceded in death by her only sibling, Don Phelps, and her husband of nearly 44 years, William (Bill) Pugh, Sr. Doris had a very active life rearing four children, sewing, quilting, gardening, cooking and hosting dinners at the home. She and Bill, Sr. traveled extensively throughout the United States as well as other countries. They loved having friends and family gatherings, especially at their cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks. The RLDS Church (now the Community of Christ Church) was her lifelong church, and she was very active in it, once serving as Director of the Orioles, the Girls' Youth Group. She enjoyed discussing her church's religious heritage and her grandfather who was a pastor. She also was a Girl Scouts leader. She and her husband were always reaching out to help people when they could. Doris touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed. She is survived by daughters Marian Conyers, Independence, Missouri; Carol Odell (Russ), Holt, Missouri; Norma Pritchett, Burlington, North Carolina and son William (Bill) Pugh, Jr. (Brenda), Merriam, Kansas, nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and five great, great grandchildren. The family will greet guests 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 30th at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence Missouri. The funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the graveside service at Mound Grove Cemetery, 1818 N. River Blvd., Independence, Missouri. |
