Marietta Kathryn Dixon Shortly after graduating from high school Marietta started her job at a chemical plant called Private Brands Inc. It was there that she found Richard. Marietta and Richard were married on November 25, 1955. They spent the next 56 years creating a life together until Richard lost his battle with Alzheimers. To that union came their five children, Glen, Steven, Joyce, Phyllis and Susan. However, Marietta got a second chance at love when she met Robert Miller in 2013. They have been happily married for 10 years. Marietta was a woman of strong faith. She enjoyed engaging in the church activities on a regular basis. Marietta would sing in the Messiah choir and volunteer to direct a number of choirs and reunions. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother, PTA President, Zion’s League leader, young adult leader and senior adult leader. Amongst all of those activities Marietta was a proud ordained Priest within the Community of Christ church. Her passion was teaching the word of God and guiding all walks of life of all ages. She even had the opportunity to teach a preschool class for over 10 years for the Salvation Army preschool. When Marietta finally decided to take a step back and retire her and Richard headed to the lake in Pleasanton, KS and remained there for several years. In 2005 they made the decision to move back to Independence when Richard became ill so that they could be surrounded by family. Marietta was a fascinating, selfless woman and she will be missed immensely by her friends and family. She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert “Bob” Miller; children, Glen Dixon (Patty), Joyce Ashcraft (David), Steven Dixon and Phyllis Elliott; son-in-law, Jim Brown; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marietta is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Dixon; daughter, Susan Brown and numerous siblings. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that donations be made to Three Rivers Hospice. |
