Penny L. Edwards, 73, of Independence, MO passed away on Friday January 05, 2024. She was born on April 14, 1950, in Galesburg, IL to Jesse and Ethel (Hendricks) Mason. Penny graduated from Galesburg Senior High School and on November 17, 1967, at the age of 17, she married the love of her life Charles “Mike” Edwards. Together they went on to have three wonderful children, Jennifer, Todd, and Troy. Penny was a paralegal for years with the Community of Christ Church and once she retired, she became a clerk for the IRS. She was so very loved within her workplace and her church, making many friends throughout the years. Penny was a wonderful mother and grandmother and truly believed family came first. She was a mother/ grandma to all her children and grandchildren’s friends; everyone felt the love Penny had to give. She loved to take pictures and every trip they went on she documented with photos. Penny and Mike loved to travel and traveled in their RV making friends at all the stops, a lot of people she went on to keep in contact with to this day. She loved to cook and was great at it, everyone loved whatever Penny was cooking. Penny had three dogs that will miss her so, Maggie, Piper, and Josie. She was so very loved and will be so deeply missed by all who knew her.
Penny is survived by her husband of 56 years Mike Edwards, daughter Jennifer Edwards Dick (Garet Dick), sons Todd Edwards (Vickie Moore), and Troy Edwards (Christy Troupe), grandchildren Sydnee Edwards-Spaulding (Kyle), Conor Edwards (Amber), Seth Corson, and Jacob Kalcic, and one great grandson Weston Spaulding, as well as many friends and extended family. She is preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Ethel Mason and her stepfather Claude Hendricks.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday April 13, 2024, at Community of Christ Church (411 S. Lee’s Summit Rd. Independence, MO 64050)
