Obituary of James Harlin “Jim” Daugherty

James Harlin “Jim” Daugherty, 85, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2023.
Jim was born March 18, 1938. He was the eldest son of James Charles Daugherty and Esther Marguerite (Sheppard) Daugherty.
As a boy, Jim traveled to many locations with his missionary family as his father was a Seventy for the RLDS Church.
In 1956, he graduated from high school in Taylorville, IL. After serving in the Engineering Department with the U.S. Army at Fort Belvoir, VA, he attended Washington State University and studied engineering.
While working a summer job with a construction company, he knew he wanted to work in the building trades and subsequently served a five-year apprenticeship for plumbing.

On December 1, 1962, Jim was married to the Former Laura Ann Glauner of Hagerman, ID at the Gudgell Park RLDS Church in Independence, MO.
During his work years, he was employed by several large plumbing companies and served as foreman on many complex projects.
The loves of his life were his family and the Church, where he served as an Elder from June 1964 until his death. He was pastor of the Butler Restoration Branch for 22 years. Jim was a man of deep faith and an inspiration and comfort to many. He loved to study and research the scriptures and history. Through the ministry of preaching and teaching, he shared the gospel both in and outside the Church.
He loved to collect Church books and had an extensive library from which he often studied. He enjoyed taking people on Church history tours. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, and collecting rocks and minerals.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Laura; son, Michael Daugherty (Carey) of Springfield, MO; son, Duff Daugherty (Kendra) of Oak Grove, MO; daughter, Shannon Daugherty of Grain Valley, MO; brother, Charles Thomas
Daugherty (Edna) of Wylie, TX; sister, Margaret Ann Ward, of Kansas City, MO.
Also surviving are 6 grandchildren: Steven Daugherty of Warrensburg, MO; Megan Webb of DeSoto, KS; Harmony Daugherty of Humansville, MO; Joel Daugherty
(Rebecca) of Holden, MO; Amanda Cain (Jason) of Blue Springs, MO; Haley Groseth (Brandon) of Grain Valley, MO; and two great-grandsons.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marguerite Daugherty; brother-in-Law, Ransom Ward; and nephew, Brian Ward.
Jim’s kindness, sense of humor, and loving spirit will be remembered and missed by family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held January 20, 2024 at 10 a.m. at the South Crysler Restoration Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ, 16101 Salisbury Road,
